I don't think we have anything else to discuss - I mean, we did the exposition dump and made plans, but now we're seeing if Sven's tale alters those.

At least, that's my take.

:)

Observation made by my snarky daughter, 'Princess/Sorceress'.
(And NO, I do not know where she gets her snark from. I still have all of mine, thank you.) ;P

(Sitting on her bed, with her laptop on her lap-desk in front of her, doing her University homework, or as she calls it 'Corona University'.)

Princess- "THIS has got to be the LONGEST game of 'Cooties' EVER!"

Hmmm. You guys should have a family movie night viewing of "The Seventh Seal."

I think I vaguely recall watching that, a LOOOOOOOONG time ago,...

Is that thing still around?!?
O_o

Also,...
(How to know your doing good as a parent during this stuck at home time)

So, a child, from his bedroom, uses his cell phone and calls his mother, who is in the front room, on her phone.

"Yeah mom? I slept in too late, and missed the bus. So I won't be coming in to 'school' today."

(Your reaction may vary,...)
;P

That's an excellent level of cheek.

I heard this recently, cant recall where exactly, so pretending it was my niece. It may have been. ;P

My sister (Parent of three kids, talking to her 3 year old daughter):
"I'm sorry sweetie. We can't go to the neighborhood park and play with your friends today."

3-year old girl: "Is it because of the Corana Pirates?"

My sister: ",... Yes."

Ya know, for a 3 year old, that's as good an explanation as any...

I know, right? :)

It makes it sound way cooler than it actually is.

Kind of gives a guy campaign ideas. ;)

LOL,...
wait,...

Tilnar and Mahorf, hoping you guys are OK.

These are worrying times.

Sigh, I have SO much stress already, I just can't 'worry' about the newest strain of germs. ;P

I mean, I'm not going to be STUPID about it, but I'm not WORRYING About it either. (Unlike my wife, whom I love dearly, but feels it is her personal responsibility to worry about EVERYthing that comes along.) ;P

To be fair, this IS coming from the aged wizzie who has decided (correctly or otherwise) that he hasn't contracted the flu once.
Since he stopped taking the Flu shots. :P

OK, seriously now, I hope all are OK? No craziness other than the usual in anyone's neck-of-the-woods?

I don't think a good chance of dying terribly is something one should just ignore, which is why I've been stuck inside since my birthday in mid-February.

It's frankly not much of a change from before, except my income has been cut approx 95%.

On the somber side, my roommate and I (being nearly alone in the world) exchanged information about who to contact and what to do in case of illness or death. This includes posting a notice on social media, so people don't wonder.

On the good side, I decided I've waited long enough to learn piano, so am expecting delivery of an electric piano any day now. I'm seriously cheered at the prospect of practicing every day. :)

Oh there's a seriously big gap between 'ignoring' the chance of dying, and Stressing about it. :)

Good for you getting an electric piano!
Have fun with that! :)

(oh, sorry about the income slash. That sucks. No mater how you slice it. THAT part is making people do all sorts of desperate, and sometimes stupid, things) ;P

EDIT- GAH I hate posting! It makes everything I try to say sound even worse than it really is! :P
I DIDN'T mean that YOU might be doing desperate or stupid things, I was just making a general mention of some of the silliness thats been going on lately.

Be safe! :)

Yeah, I'm not making money and bought an electric piano.

Might be a little "que sera, sera" going on in my brain.

Well, in THIS case we wont classify buying an electric piano as 'Desperate',
we'll call it 'An investment in your sanity'
:)

We're all healthy here - including my immunocompromised 85-year-old father, thankfully - physicially at least. It's still a rather stressful situation. I'm handling the telework thing better than my wife - but that said, we have to juggle when each of us can work because, of course, toddlers don't look after themselves.

..and living with her is like I'm trapped in a house with a tiny terrorist, given that she doesn't understand what's going on -- she's emotional and doesn't know why - misses her daycare and friends, misses her cousins, and is too young to understand why she can't go see them -- and the decision to not have a backyard in favour of a pool based on the availability of local parks has not been helpful these last few weeks (that said, we're slowly getting closer and closer to the pool opening, so... yay.)

But, holding in there -- and glad to be living somewhere that isn't rushing the reopen and where the very small number of protestors are treated with disdain.

THIS gets my vote for absolute favorite statement of this entire pandemic-thing. Hands Down. :)

Just do what I used to do with MY kids when they were little. Just chase them in circles around the house and tickle them mercilessly if you catch them. They love it. And it wears EVERYONE out in time for bed! :)

My mom used to be appalled at me, 'Your just winding them up! They'll never go to sleep now!'. Heh. Worked every time, Once they stop moving, they passed out. ;)

EDit- Having been in a house with a pool for all of my Jr high, High school and college years, I can absolutely attest to the 'Pools are great' club.

Cleaning them, not so much, everything else YEAH! ;)

We've been playing "hide and seek" -- which of course consists of her going to one of the same three places, giggling, shouting "come find me" and if you start doing the searching "Where are you?", there's about a 65% chance she'll respond with where she is. ;)

Still, it's fun - I'm sure years from now when the memory scrubbers take the edge of the stress, there'll be some wonderful memories to be nostalgic of -- even if right now I'd trade a kidney for a week of her being back at daycare. ;)

Like I said, we're getting toward the point (2 weeks or so) where the open will happen - and then the keeping her busy thing becomes much, much easier. ;) Biggest issue then will be the reapplication of sunscreen... and the gas bill for the pool heater.

Ah yes, the good ol' days! :)

Still, I prefer THAT type of Hide and seek, as opposed to my sister.
SHE once spent a very long time hiding so well, and so quietly, and refused to come out when called, that my mother was in a panic, and went outside to check the pool three times, just to be certain nothing terrible had happened. O_o WHen she finally came out, we all asked her where the @#$% she had been, and she couldn't understand why we were upset. She had hidden very good, and we didn't find her, didn't she do good? ;P

(We told her yes, she did very well & won that game. But the NEXT time she hears Mommy say that hide and seek is over, she had to come out next time) :D

Yep to both of those last parts. :)

Good news, I have it on good authority, (And years of experience) That once it hits 5pm, you can 'safely' swim the rest of the day without sunscreen.*

:)

Not sure who needs to go next.

In other news, I bought an electric piano and lifetime Playground subscription and am finally learning piano.

Cool, Congrats! Have fun with that!

Yeah, I'm kind of confused with all of my RL stuff going on, kind of lost my thread of thought in the PbP's. :P

Sorry. :)

We've been debating getting one for my wife who used to play (and will therefore be snobbish and require we get a very good one or she'll complain about the feel/sound) - but we're also thinking we might want to wait a bit, as having a not-quite-three-year-old pounding on it seems like a bad idea (tm).

And yeah, I'm also at a bit of a loss as to who'd be next. :)

I'm very shy about people hearing me practice, but I know it is necessary to master an instrument. That's one reason I went with an electric piano with a volume control AND headphone jack! Nobody wants to hear me right now. Including me.

My Yamaha P-45 has the full 88 keys and weighted touch, so the muscle memory will transfer to a real piano. It's also light enough for me to set up and take down each session (on my computer desk so I can read sheet music PDF's.) It has a MIDI jack so the online lessons can judge my playing. Judgy damned lessons.

I'm pretty happy with it.

First song I learned.

Start your little one now and this could happen. :)

She had me looking at the Yamaha YDP-164 or 184 or something.

The first is hysterical,

and the second is amazing.

Happy birthday to our illustrious Storyteller!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!

Thanks everyone, with this Lockdown I should push things back into higher gear. :)

Second: Happy slightly belated to DSX. :)

DSXMachina wrote:

While we still can? :)

(I supposed to actually GO back to work soon-ish, as opposed to working from home.)

Yeah,... I run a theater/auditorium.
We'll see how THAT goes,... ;P

So,
I paid $$ to get all 11 remaining trees in my backyard cut down, (mostly because wife was afraid they would fall over and take out our or our neighbors house. To be fair, it IS an early start to hurricane season, but anyway)

Not 10 minutes after the guys drove off, I had squirrels on the back fence looking at the stumps and they were all like,
"WhatTheF@#$ did you DO?!?!"
"Well, THERE goes the neighborhood!"

You just know they're going to hire a party to exact revenge on the aged wizzie that destroyed their homes.

Lastwall Heroes - Current Date: Toilday, 31 Desnus, 4711 AR | Shadowrun - Current Date: Saturday, March 13, 2060

That's hilarious.... and the idea of organized, vengeful squirrels is at least a little terrifying.

When your the one actually staring down the vengence-crazed, cute, adorable Fuzzy little tree-rats,...

,... It's a lot terrifying.
o_O

Hey! Those teeth are SHARP!

(And speaking from personal experience,my mother had squirrels in her attic. They were a PAIN to get rid of! An expensive pain.)
;P

No joke! I tried to teach a squirrel to eat from my hand at university. Just as he was reaching for the frozen butter, somebody walked in the room and startled him. He lunged, bit through the nails on my thumb and forefinger, and slashed huge flaps of skin loose on the sides of my fingers with his razor claws. [bite, claw, claw]

It was so fast, I never even had a chance to flinch away. [Nat 1 on REF save]

(he got the butter)

In hindsight, prolly shoulda gone to the infirmary, but I was worried they'd give me rabies shots.

Lastwall Heroes - Current Date: Toilday, 31 Desnus, 4711 AR | Shadowrun - Current Date: Saturday, March 13, 2060

Because having rabies would be preferable? ;)

A friend of mine (ok, an ex) had an aunt who used to feed the squirrels every day -- and over time, more and more of them came to get food from her - to the point that she couldn't do it anymore (the squirrels were fighting over the food, it was expensive, etc.) And, the first day that she came out after having stopped - she was attacked by the squirrels looking for their food.

This is why I prefer chipmunks. Less aggressive. Cuter. (That said, I'm less enamoured with them after seeing the damage under my patio stones from the little beastie's burrows -- they're like at least 80% of the reason I had to pay someone to reset the step to my porch).

Oi, LONG before my mother's house has the squirrels in the attic, way back at my first college,...
(Yes, I have three college degrees. THAT and 5$ will get me a cup of coffee at Starbucks/CC's. A SMALL cup of coffee.) ;P

ANYway, at my first college there was a large tree (Oak?) right between the small space between the main entrance to one of the dorms, and the sidewalk that passed it. That particular tree was Squirrel-castle headquarters. First few times we passed it I kept hearing 'click-clack' noises. Took us all a while to figure out that the little beasties were throwing acorns at our heads! The noises were when they missed and hit branches first!

When they managed to miss the branches, the lil buggers had amazingly good aim. O_O

Tilnar wrote:

Young and dumb.

To prove it, I went to 3 universities for 6 years to get ONE degree, instead of the three that Rags has.

My grandparents had a tin roof over their front porch, and tall oak trees towered over it. The possums and raccoons used to sit in those trees and drop acorns on the tin roof all. night. long. Like, one every 2-5 minutes. POW! POW! POW! It was auditory Chinese water torture. I'm positive it was intentional.

Ugh that sounds terrible! I HATE tin roofs for that very reason!

(My aunt tried to talk me into a tin roof when I got mine redone last year. I politely inquired if she had finally gone senile. I LOVE my aunt, but sometimes she gets these ideas in her head, and she gets convinced that there is NO other way to do something.) ;P

Oh I can GAR-ON-TEE it was intentional sweetheart! The lil' varmints are jes' like thet yeh see?
:)

Lastwall Heroes - Current Date: Toilday, 31 Desnus, 4711 AR | Shadowrun - Current Date: Saturday, March 13, 2060

One of my neighbours had a squirrel lift his facia and nest in there - so while it wasn't a tin roof situation, all night he'd hear the thing scurrying past his window "inside".

I've been attacked by acorns as you described, Rags - we canoed over to an island and the little monsters didn't like us being there. We didn't even land on the island - we just wanted to fish in a small alcove in the rocks where there were some lake trout. So it went from slight chattering to angry, angry chattering to hearing things splash near us to a moment of "huh, weird, an acorn fell in the canoe... seems early for them to be falling" - until suddenly it's happening often enough that you figure it out.

O_O

So they really DO throw acorns?

I thought it was my youthful imagination anthropomorphizing the situation.

Maybe that Rick & Morty clip isn't so far afield.

Oh yes they really do throw acorns. That clip is disturbingly accurate. O_o

LOL, ONCE (That I know of, I'm sure they did it while we werent home too) I was in the kitchen while the squirrels were living in the attic, and heard a commotion above my head.

Our kitchen/florescent light fixtures were actually mounted IN the ceiling, so fixture and ceiling were flush.
One of the lil' buggers had somehow gotten himself INTO the fixture, and I guess couldn't figure out how to get back out. So I'm watching this lil' fuzzy @$$hole run and scrabble around in the fixture, wondering what I'M going to do if he pops the plastic bottom of the fixture off and lands in the kitchen. O_o

Lucky(?!?) he managed to figure out where to squeeze back into the attic.
So I told mom about it when she got home. AND she called the 'exterminator' that day.

('Exterminator' is in quotes, because they are no longer allowed to actually EXTERMINATE pests. Because of stupid animal cruelty laws.)
>_<

Hanging in there - mostly, at least. ;)

Oh yeah, swish and a miss!

It WAS originally supposed to head DIRECTLY for my little area, but swung to the west, and 'direct' hit New Orleans.

But as it never made it to Hurricane strength (came in too quickly, never had time to build up) it was just some rain and surge and a little wind. Nothing N.O. can't handle.

Where I live, we got a couple of gusts, and some misty drizzle. All good.
:)
