Leaving discussion in the discussion forum, I had no way to know that the air elemental was a summoned creature and not an ambient encounter, which is why I didn't bother trying to dispel it. :/
Oh well, if the lord of the castle relies a lot on summons, it may come up again.
That's fair enough Constantin, I don't think anyone detected the trap.

Constantin Ionescu |

If it's not summons, I'm sure it'll be bad guys with terrible buffs, or some horrible fear effect or somesuch on one of us, dude. =P
Yeah I'm sure there will be no shortage of stuff for which dispel may be useful.
I don't think we have a trapfinder in our group, do we? So we likely couldn't have found the summoning trap in the first place.
Not worried about it, it's just one of those "post facto" moments of "Wait, that wasn't a local monster, that was a summon? D'OH!"

Zed Ulmin |

Trapfinding only allows the user to disarm magical traps. Anybody can notice traps normally with perception (and sometimes detect magic), and anybody can disarm any non-magical traps with disable device.
I think I may have the highest perception? Zed would be the trap spotter if that's the case.

Constantin Ionescu |

It depends on the AP writer. Some adventures assume that you will have a trapfinder who's set up to have a really high Perception so they make it like DC 40 to find the trap in the first place. (I played in a society adventure that literally had that for a first-level group.) Without a dedicated trapfinder, we might or might not be able to hit the DCs to find traps just on the Perception checks - hard to say.
Since this was a magical summoning trap we probably couldn't do anything about it even if we did find it.

Kazamir Rhuul |

Kaz's perception for trapfinding is alright (+16) - I think I just tanked the roll when I checked out the doors. I can also disarm magical traps - if I find them.

On the subject of loot:
This second half of the book is kind of weird in that it lists all these objects and items in the manse with a gp value as if it is expected you take them as loot.
Obviously I get that a party of good-aligned adventurers aren't just going to go around taking the silver cutlery out of the drawers but I honestly think that is the design intention, regardless of what the circumstances actually are in this part of the story.
So I propose 2 options -
1) You can go ahead and loot as you normally would and we will handwave any consequences or story/character reasons why you wouldn't do that.
2) If that's dissatisfying from an RP perspective, rather than leave you under-wealth in an already deliberately stingy game, I can take the total amount you would have gained and fill that in somewhere else early in Book 3.
Let me know what you think.

Kazamir Rhuul |

Can we delay that decision?
I would say that if, when we are done, no-one friendly is holding the castle, loot is on! If the Count or Bland or someone is back in control when we're done, then augment a reward later on.
What are the thoughts of the rest of the party?

Hazel Stokes |
Yeah, let's at least wait until we see what the status of things is once we finish this place. If the Count is around (and friendly) or if Bland is around then we can just augment a later reward, otherwise I'm happy to take what we find if it turns out the place is abandoned and has no owner to claim it :)
I'll try to keep a separate tally of stuff found here in the Schloss though it might take me until tomorrow evening to account for what we've found so far.

As a heads up to everybody in all of my games, I will be having a drastic schedule change for the summer.
I am no longer working a normal 9-5 job (don't worry I didn't get fired, it was an internship position that ended), and instead will be only working on the weekends. I will not be able to post at all most weekends, expect maybe some quick posts late at night. During the week I should be able to post very often, perhaps not quite as much later in the day.
Also I will be spending quite a bit of the upcoming summer doing some world traveling, which will mean frequent vacations where I will most likely not be posting. I will let everybody know when I will be gone. Speaking of which, I will be gone this Monday through Wednesday. I can possibly sneak some quick posting in at night, but I wouldn't count on much.
However as a general note, my posting amount should generally increase since I will have a lot of free time during the week.
Thank you everybody for your understanding, and happy gaming!

Zed Ulmin |

We are thinking of trying a backpacking trip of Europe.

Valavastra Cross |

Hey guys, sorry I've been quieter of late; we're in the middle of a big system conversion at work and I've hardly had a spare moment. On top of that, I've been trying to prep like crazy for my annual CabinCon trip this weekend (Thursday - Monday), so I'll be entirely offline during that span as well.

Kazamir Rhuul |

My bad, folsk - I thought I had posted to this discussion thread as well...yes, I am amoving this weekend. I'll be staying with relatives for the next two weeks with very limited access at night - i will try to stay caught up during the day.
In terms of the present combat, i'd say lets either lure it inside so Verm and Zed can pound her to paste, or, if she won't bite, try to wait her out - she might be a summoned critter, so there's a limited duration.
IF she gets close enough, kaz will use somic scream if he can get a clear shot.
Please don't let me hold things up. I'll be back full time as soon as I can.

Zed Ulmin |

Indeed. Hug the wall so she has to dip within the entrance to have line of sight to us, then charge.

3rd: mind thrust III
(Gaining mind thrust III allowed swapping mind thrust II; gained bonus 2nd level power from favored class)
For my new feat I'm leaning toward item creation - either Wondrous Items or Weapons and Armor. Any preferences from the party? Vala, I know you were also thinking of doing item creation; feedback?

Hazel Stokes |
Woohoo for levels! However it's getting pretty late early here so I'll update Hazel after I've had some sleep :)
If we have the time for item crafting, maybe one of you could do Weapons and Armor and the other Wondrous Items, to cover both bases?
*edit*
@GM-JZ: We are now officially at the part where my first Carrion Crown game finally petered out (right after the fight with the devil). So from here on out, it's all new territory for me :P

What with Zed and Vermundr able to dish out plenty of damage in melee and Vala/Kaz/Constantin having spell damage covered, I think I'm going to take Hazel in a more 'tanky/protector' direction with her feats. It might not be the most efficient route but I think it suits her general personality :)

Zed Ulmin |

Yes Zed's build is quickly coming together. I don't think he will every quite catch up to Verm on DPR, but with some feats and spells coming in, he's going to be nothing to sneeze at.

Vermundr |

Best Memorial Day present ever!
Unfortunately I'm still out of town. I won't be able to get things fully updated until tomorrow evening.
Funny enough my PFS bloodrager leveled to 7th over this weekend too so I already had a good idea of what to pick out for Vermundr.

+2 rage rounds
Bloodline spell learned: ray of enfeeblement
Normal spells learned: frigid touch, mirror image

Kazamir Rhuul |

Apologies again...it seems the level six version of Kaz is on my home PC, which is in storage for a few more days. I am back-constructing him from his profile into HeroLab, and I'll level him from there, but it may take me another day.
I can muddle along at 6th level until I get caught up.

Kazamir Rhuul |

Alright, up to speed.

I'm skeptical we'll have the time and wherewithal to get any real mileage out of any crafting feats, Constantin.

+1 Level 4 spell slot

Valavastra Cross |

Yeah, those crafting-on-the-road results are agonizingly slow.
I'm using them in another game I'm in and by the time I finished the flaming enchantment for the inquisitor's sword we'd already leveled twice. By the time I finish my wizard's first staff, I reckon we'll be onto to book 6 of the AP and I'll have come across much more useful things in the meantime =\
I'd vote to trust JZ, he seems to know pretty well what this AP is and what it isn't; I don't think he'll leave us without any useful shinies =)

Hazel Stokes |
Hey folks, just a heads-up that I'll be heading out town Thursday morning to a convention and likely won't be back until either very late Sunday night or very early Monday morning. I'll have my Kindle and phone with me but I'll likely not be posting at all during that time. Please feel free to bot me as needed while I'm gone :)

Zed Ulmin |

I will be mostly unavailable this entire week. I am volunteering as a camp counselor and the only free time we get is a little bit in the late evening before we go to sleep. I may be able to slip in some small posts during that time, but I wouldn't count on much. Apologies for the short notice, and please DMPC me as needed.
