Huh?? Explain. Why?

Why:

Why not? He's facing 4 claws and two kukri, and facing away from the 60-foot-range precision damage sniper, and he's the preferred target, apparently, since he's selected even through 6 ranks of enemy (at -24 to hit...). So, remaining where he is, is a bad move. He cannot move through the enemy demon, he cannot sense Sian unless she's attacking someone, and she disappears again by the end of her turn, even though she might be on fire (Good move, Tessai).

So he's using the loopy physics to loop. He drops into the darkness. He saves his action in the hope of attacking Sian when she appears. He's got good Acrobatics and even Fly. And it's time Sian had something unexpected happen to her. This is his best play.

A bad play? Sure. But again, it's his very best bad plan.

Tessai tries to discern their foes' positioning as best as possible - "Here now little piggie, show that ugly face of yours will you..?"

If not, she will cast See Invisibility.

.

You can never completely eliminate every shadow, but most. Keep in mind, her last maneuver had her jumping into the pit, clearly out of sight before later showing up again. One last note, since you all seems to be thinking along the lines of stealth... stealth doesn't just work on shadows. Just sayin'. :)

Quote:
Wouldn't Tessai and BD receive a bonus to spot her since they can see in the dark?

It would depend on a variety of factors depending on what ability, spell, etc was being used. I cannot divulge details regarding Sian, of course, without being meta.

Quote:
If she somehow manages to notice her, she will strike:

The last two times she appeared on the opposite side some 60' away and attacking from a distance. Do you want to try and move towards that direction?

On another note, Sian is not on fire.

BD:
(I'm moving my first paragraph to discussion) As far as this plan, you all have experienced these holes before, and you don't fly in them, so that won't help you unless you have a fly spell or ability I don't know about. Acrobatics only helps ignore of the first 10' of falling damage...but unfortunately there's more than 10' of pit here. But, you know what? It's your party. Whatever.

Battle posting will be a bit delayed here... about an hour.

Tessai will move halfway between where she is right now and that last spot where Sian showed up, unless it takes her too close to the other demons - only want to face one threat at a time :D She will however put her rapier away and draw a javelin.

EDIT: If moving needs any rolls, for grease or whatever, then Tessai will stay put :D

Beppo stands around looking confused, but will whack the crap out of anything that shows up within melee range that is not a friendly.

Round 3
Aemon, if you are readying a shot, you can only take a standard action. Kyle, you cannot 'hold' a 'move and spell' thing. Reach is your friend.

Aemon shoots when he sees what he believes is the tiefling, but his shot only parts the shadows. He sees her again (second make-up shot) and this time, lands his mark (11pts). Tessai reasons that the demon/devil creature cast "Blink" (50% miss chance, 20% for Tessai since she can now see invisible.) Tessai casts "See Invisability" after not being able to nab Sian. Edmon starts moving up the stairs. Beppo readies an attack. Black Devil falls over into the pit, though its unclear whether it was a result of an attack or a deliberate decision. Oddly enough, he does not automatically pop out at the top as has happened numerous times before.

Enemy Turn
Sian pops into view just long enough for Aemon to squeeze a shot off at her. She attacks Beppo, who is the new person in front closest to the very angry looking devil.

Am I reading it wrong or did the demon move up to Beppo AND get a full attack in Round 5? I sure wouldn't mind having those 11 HP back.

Grand Lodge

Yes, he did. I tried to convey through the text that he was moving with a guile that defies description. In other words, he can five foot step despite the difficulty of the stairs, and full round attack you with reach. EVIL...devilish, even.

Grand Lodge

Actually, I double checked something. I did forget to account for Sian's shaken condition (which ends this round) in hitting Aemon's flat footed AC. -2 means she misses, so I will give him back those HPs)

Good :D By the way, where is Sian at the moment? Can she be reached?

Grand Lodge

She fell down the hole again. She doesn't like to stay still.

"Defend yourself Corellon... Leave that bastard to me and stalk the bit%$ that is putting us down one by one, stab her for me will you...?" - Tessai shouts at Corellon.

Standard Action: Apply oil of Bless Weapon to the Rapier.

Move action: Seeing Corellon launching himself at the creature, Tessai will take the opening, and close the distance also - move right up to the Demon if possible.

Grand Lodge

Special battle conditions mentioned earlier...the stairs are too narrow to accommodate multiple people in the same 'square' so to speak. That's why Edmond has been spending ROUNDS to get all the way around to the other side of this beast! Corellon rushes up (only getting one attack) but taking up the square in front of baddie. You can attack with reach or ranged weapon, however. Remember, allies do NOT give cover bonus to enemy AC.

Let me see if I understood this correctly: now that I have applied the oil of Bless Weapon to my long spear, the demon is in my face so I cannot use it. Also I cannot take a 5' step back to use it because this is difficult terrain. Also the demon attacked 4 times in the last round. Are my assumptions correct? I am asking to ponder what to do next.

If my assumptions are not correct and it is possible to attack, Tessai will step back and do so. If not, she will drop the spear, use a swift action to activate judgment of sacred healing and apply the OTHER oil of Bless weapon on her rapier, probably taking multiple AoOs in the process.

Guys, between the demon and the shooter, I will probably drop in one round, so I would honestly start pondering an all out retreat.

Also, anyone has any idea at all how we can target the shooter? Because I am totally out on how to address that one. Daylight? Dispel Magic? Anything...?

Retired Human (RETIRED) Alchemist 6 | HP 57 | AC 20 FF 18 T13 | Saves +9/+9/+8 (with heroism) (+4 disease, +2 poison)| Init + 2 | Percep +10

Yeah a full attack could put Edmond down in one. This is tough.

Grand Lodge

Let's see. First, if everyone moves five feet back, then you could move five feet back and do one attck...just not a full round action. And, since it's difficult terrain, you would provoke an AoO. BTW, did you see Kyle's post above my massive combat post? He was using his bluff to send you a coded message, in a manner of speaking. He beat DC15, so I want to make sure you read/received it.

I did see it but... I don't really think Tessai has the ability to bluff a demon.

My question now is, can I declare that I take a step back and attack then? Or is this possibility hinging on someone else's actions? I am confused about one thing - you cannot take a 5'step in difficult terrain, or you provoke an AoO when you do so? Or you are allowed but it counts like a move action? Or in fact, it is simply a move action and not a 5' step? Apologies for the barrage of questions - I believe my last statement to be the correct one right? It is simply a move and attack.

Grand Lodge

Bluff a demon, or a tiefling? Regardless, I didn't realize one was harder than the other. Granted, language capabilities MAY be an issue if you're looking at the demon, but there are more ways to 'bluff' than the spoken word. Anyways....

Yeah, it's basically a move (provoke) and single attack. If you yell at everyone else behind you to move, I'm sure they will...but they just need to keep in mind that in so doing, they are also reduced to a move+standard, and not a 5' step+full round attack.

Corellon starts to feel cold, very cold, though he is not consciously aware of this fact ...

"Tessai! Kyle do you have anyway to try and get them up?"

Then with a menacing face, Aemon looks at the Demon and notched an arrow.

"I told you, the only way we're surviving this encounter is with that wish spell. Hold still while I pull it out of your bag and use it."

Do I have to roll bluff again? If I do, I will use a hero point to add 8. And you better roll better than a 1d20 ⇒ 15. Ouch. Any aids to the bluff will be nice.

He reaches into Tess' pack to take out the runecurse. He pulls it out and holds it up in front of him.

Tessai's AC with the Longspear should be 19 (MW Breastplate and DEX16).

Kyle man, I'm sorry but I don't understand what you expect Tessai to do. You are betting on bluffing the demon? He seems even only half sentient, like an animal - is he not? I did post in discussion about my conclusions on this, and asking for your feedback on them, but I am still waiting for a decisive answer.

In any case, I am rolling with it...

Tessai adds - "Yes, now we have this fool where we want them - protect Kyle so he has enough time to read the wish scroll and dismiss this one to his foul plane again!!" - she laughs.

Bluff: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17If we can retcon, and you guys want to carry this plan out I don't mind being the bluffer myself, else I am using aid another on Kyle.

Would love to aid, the only bluffing Corellon is doing right now is trying to bluff death that he is not on a one way trip to the afterlife.

Looking at the attack stats on this creature (4 attacks at +17/+12/+11/+11 (!!!), I am actually starting to think that this is the demon being invoked by the Runecurse. And why the heck did it go incorporeal when hitting me?

Tessai takes a further look at the demon - could it be an illusion??

Will Save?: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27

Tessai:
Masterwork Breatplate is +6 (There's no extra plus for masterwork, it just reduces armor penalty I believe) and +2 dex..so 18? BTW, if you want Kyle to take stuff out of your backpack, you have to stay still, reducing your dex by 4 for that round as he rummages through your sack.

Yes, anyone who wants to play the bluffing game can aid another with a DC10 bluff check. Or, as someone pointed out to me in chat, using your acting skills that you recently developed! :D

Tessai:
Unfortunately, he is pretty real. You can roll a spell craft to attempt to tell what spell effect he has on him. He started shifting in and out after casting a spell on the first or second round.

GM-JC:
My DEX is 16, so that is +3

Showing 15 in Herolab...has been for some time. Where did you get a +1 from?
