Round 4
Well, THIS isn't good. Edmond's not here to post. I really, really don't like rolling / playing PCs, but this IS a very clear life or death situation, or presuming Edmond attacks since no one else is moving and this thing DOES look beat up (Still moving even after Aemon's attacks)....

1d20 + 10 ⇒ (19) + 10 = 29
1d20 + 10 ⇒ (15) + 10 = 25
1d20 + 10 ⇒ (12) + 10 = 22

And this is why. My mutant power to roll high just isn't meant for meet mortals!! Oh well, I don't need to roll for damage with three hits...:P

Edmond slices the creature into ribbons, and it falls apart. The other party members begin to move as the force holding them leaves their bodies.

You search through the room, you find a masterwork suit of full plate mail.

CMW Edmond: 2d10 + 3 ⇒ (7, 6) + 3 = 16

Edmond looks at Kyle, down at his wounds closing beneath the priests power and back again.

An expression of brief confusion crosses his face.

You're... Welcome.. Thank you for tending my injuries.

The words of gratitude were both alien to his ears when offered by Kyle and to his lips when he reciprocated.

Brandon:
Bravo Edmond. These are good people. I know all you want to do is protect me. But these are my people now and therefore yours. They have fought for me as strongly as you and I think we should return the favour - they care about us.

Let's say that's correct. Beppo uses two hero points and Kyle finds the faintest of pulses. As he administers the healing wand, Beppo comes to, moving slowly and gingerly.

What the hell was that thing?

He stumbles about the room, gradually regaining some measure of strength as he goes.

Thank you, Kyle. Once again, you have brought me back from the brink. I might have to follow Shelyn from now on, given all that has come to me as a result of your being here.

As the group looks around the room, Beppo eyes the suit of full plate. Perhaps this would be good insurance as well...

JCS: per our prior emails and the group's discussion forum posts, Beppo will remember that he has a vial of magical transformation that he will now apply to his masterwork greatsword. Unless someone objects, I'll be taking (and putting on) the plate as well and will send another e-mail to follow up.

You are always the first into the fray Beppo - take the plate of course.

A wooden stairway, its risers carpeted in fine silk and its banisters carved of darkwood, descends into a lake of bubbling filth and olive-green sludge in this cavern. At the far side of the cavern, three natural stone steps rise up from the slime to a chamber of worked stone, its floor stained and slathered with strings of dried ooze and mounds of filth. Two alcoves to either side of this part of the chamber hold stone chests.

As Edmond opens the door, tentacles shoot out at him from the darkness.

Grappled Reminder:
A grappled creature is restrained by a creature, trap, or effect. Grappled creatures cannot move and take a –4 penalty to Dexterity. A grappled creature takes a –2 penalty on all attack rolls and combat maneuver checks, except those made to grapple or escape a grapple. In addition, grappled creatures can take no action that requires two hands to perform. A grappled character who attempts to cast a spell or use a spell-like ability must make a concentration check (DC 10 + grappler's CMB + spell level), or lose the spell. Grappled creatures cannot make attacks of opportunity.

A grappled creature cannot use Stealth to hide from the creature grappling it, even if a special ability, such as hide in plain sight, would normally allow it to do so. If a grappled creature becomes invisible, through a spell or other ability, it gains a +2 circumstance bonus on its CMD to avoid being grappled, but receives no other benefit.

Casting Spells while Grappled/Grappling: The only spells which can be cast while grappling or pinned are those without somatic components and whose material components (if any) you have in hand. Even so, you must make a concentration check (DC 10 + the grappler's CMB + the level of the spell you're casting) or lose the spell.

Edmonds broken body is thrown to the floor.

He feels no pain, not even rage. He simply feels remorse.

I'm sorry... Brandon.... I was not.... strong enough. he puts his clawed hand to his gut and winced as it comes back covered in blood that's almost black.

Our liver... punctured... ribs... crushed. Dying. I'm so sorry.

A hundred images run through Brandon/Edmonds head. Colours, faces, places, names. And one image that keeps recurring.

HIS face.

No. HIS smell first. That reek of stale beer, sweat and tree sap.

He remembers HIS rough hands. How HE would smooth Brandons pale skin in a gesture so tender. Leaving a smear of his mother's blood on his cheek.

His mother. The strongest person he ever knew.

For years she took the beatings. Night after night when HE would stumble home, blind drunk and with a feeling that five minutes rutting just wasn't satisfying enough.

She told neighbours she fell. Or horse kicked her. Or a hundred other things a hundred other times. They knew. Brandon knew. He saw. So many times he watched helplessly as his mother was tossed around like a rag doll.

She never made a sound. She caught his eye and mouthed 'Be quiet. Be still.' But he cried. And his father turned on him and broke his arm for the first time. At the same instant the bone snapped, so did Brandons mind. That's the day Edmond was born.

Brandon was not strong enough to cope. But Edmond was. He learned to be a monster from his father. A lesson he would repay in years to come. A bloody curriculum of torture and pain and mutilation.

Brandon refused to remember the details of that day but in his dying moments it was all so clear.Sick with grief over his mother's death, he convinced himself that the monster inside him murdered his father. In fact, Edmond was just doing what he had always done. Protect Brandon with a strength he could not muster. He did the things that had to be done to avenge his sweet mother and make THE BASTARD pay.

A small voice croaks from between the fanged teeth of the stricken beast, an eerily familiar voice and yet one that does not seem to belong.

Thank.. you.... Edmond.... she would........ be proud.

A single tear forms at the corner of Edmonds eye and, though no one else sees it, he smiles.

Darkness takes them both as unconsciousness descends.
