LOL. Well, you'll feel good that you took down Hell Knights then. Technically, attacking outside of the city walls wasn't against city laws, but it certainly would violate several laws of the state. And you guys DID kill one in the sewers, which was against the law. So you can rest easy tonight knowing you were Chaos unleashed!

Alignments are great fun but sometimes hard to play. Brandon is LG and I'm trying to stick to that, hence his melt-down when he killed the HK on the carriage.
Incidentally, JC, no purchases for me as yet.

Drat...I didn't get a chance to work on those today. I should tomorrow. Speaking of tomorrow....I'm running an online Pathfinder Society Scenario...4-1 on Wednesday starting about 8.30pm EST using Maptools b87 and Skype. I've done this many times and these tools work great. I'm also running another session on Saturday night at 8.30pm EST.
For more information, go to this link. If you want to join, follow the instructions there (including letting me know via email asap.)

Tessai |

Remember to email me your choices, or they won't count. :)
Check out this post. There's not a lot of detail there...but it looks like they're going to be sanctioning APs. However, it looks like the two they've chosen is RotRL and Shattered Star.
I know a lot of you joined, originally, to get PFS credit. We switched to this because I could see no way to keep playing and earn credit with the !!@$@#$@%'ers who were whining that we weren't following RAW closely enough.
The question is, if there's a way to earn credit by playing a different AP, does the group feel strongly we should switch? Or do we keep on with this?
Well, I initially joined to start running a few PFS scenarios, but I also think we should follow through with this one. In any case, as already stated before, I am up for anything (I am growing attached to Tessai though :D).
Regarding playing on a specific, different webspace, I am quite ok with it - It is cool to have all my Pathfinder related stuff in one place, but I think we should at least give it a try at trying somewhere else - it is simply a matter of bookmarking a different page, and according to GM-JC the features seem quite nice. I am up for it.
Regarding your online games.. wow, that would be amazing but unfortunately impossible for me - I have a work deadline coming up today, and about 3 coming up during the next week, so I am knee deep in it. For the PbP it is not an issue, but to take 4-6 hours to play online will not be possible. A shame it is...

No biggie. I will let you all know as other opportunities come up. I'm VC for Utah region, so I do PFS specific stuff online from time to time.
Looks like we're sticking with CoT. I know I'm having fun with it. I get flexability as a GM that I never get in a PFS scenario (The last couple of pages of gameplay was entirely made up to help better illustrate the way the Hellknights worked in day to day, as well as the attitude of the populace...and finally, how some people who worship deities other than Asmodeous might go about doing so. You didn't REALLY expect to see a huge temple to Shelyn in Cheliax, did you?).
I spend a lot of time (and other resources) studying Golarion as a fantasy world, which does help me in being a PFS GM...but really shows in games like this where I'm given the freedom to improvise. I'm also finding the medium (Pbp) growing me on me. While combat is clunky (at best), RP can really shine as everyone has time to really thing out what their character says/does. This is the exact opposite of table play where we get combat pretty much by the rules, but RP suffers because of time constraints and lack of animinity.

At this point, I could start the next scene, which is the party returning to the temple and finally getting a chance to sit down and catch up with Arael, Janiven and the rest of the crew...but we're getting pretty close to the Holiday. So, I'm going to officially put the game on pause. I'll post in discussion as I get the character sheets (finally) updated. Please let me know if you want to buy/sell more stuff via email only as I may miss purchasing thoughts posted on the boards. You are welcome to discuss anything you want, including meta stuff, on the discussion board during this holiday period. I, myself, will be popping in and out as I tend to other things. I definately want to have all character sheets and stats completely caught up before the holidays.
Speaking of holidays, according to my notes, you all aren't quite level 2 yet, but, hey...it's Thanksgiving! So, let's get you all leveled up a little early. Please send me your level two choices via email. As far as HPs....I really don't want to roll those on the board. So you have choice, you can either take the average (similar to PFS. A D6 gets 4, a D8 gets 5, etc) or you can send me a number between 1 and your max. I have a random table that gives me a value corresponding to each number which, in turn, will give me a HP value. It's completely random.
Don't forget favored class bonuses.
Level up choices, just like purchases, must be sent to my email address Please do not PM them. My email addy is jcservant at cyberlightcomics dot com. Please make sure your real name and character name is in any email you send to me regarding the above. (I get a LOT of email and I'm easily confused) Thank you!!

Corellon Aelasar |

Great news, I'll get the LV 2 stuff out to you. Thanks. Have a great Thanksgiving holiday all! And to my commonwealth friends ... sit back on your chesterfield, whatever the colour, enjoy a pint, whatever the flavour and have great Thursday and Friday.

Brandon Harcroft |

Happy Thank sgiving all!
Thanks for the level up too. I'll send a new HL portfolio through this weekend JC and hopefully introduce Edmond sometime in level 2. I wantd to not use a mutagen at all in level 1, its a big choice for B to do it.
Also, finally get 1 BAB, woohoo!!

Ok...as far as I know, I got the transactions that were emailed to me all updated on the sheets. Kyle's level up is done. Please review those changes and email me directly if you have questions. Aemon, I built your character in HL based on what I saw on your paizo page...but I need you to send me some finer details...skill point allocation, gear you want to buy (I got your weapons and armor, I think), etc. Look over what I have in the PDF and let me know what's missing. Thanks.

Beppo van Drotske |

Ok, partly so that I am lazy and don't want to have to think about it too much, and partly because I am relatively new to the game, I'm interested in crowdsourcing some thoughts for Beppo's next bonus feat.
Leading candidates are as follows:
Furious focus (no penalty for first power attack)
Cleave (extra attack to 2d enemy if 1st is hit)
Weapon Focus (greatsword) +1 to attack with greatsword
Combat reflexes (gives 2 extra AoO)

The Black Devil |

WF is your path to Weapon Specialization.
Cleave is likely to pay off sooner.
FF is like +1 to hit (same as WF) until you're 4th level.
Combat Reflexes... I think is going to be under-powered, owing to the (distance)(EFL)(PFL)(distance) model we're using. Without the usual jockeying for position, AoOs appear to be a bad gamble, and building for more of them, thus unwise. Wait until you see yourself running out of AoOs before taking CR. (I have it, so I've given this one a lot of thought. It's a prereq for things BD will have, but it hasn't paid off, otherwise.)
I would suggest Cleave. Again here, the (d)(EFL)(PFL)(d) method changes things. You will _always_ have a second adjacent target.

I'm hardly an expert, but in running tables, there's a lot of moving around. I haven't played Pbp (with my wierd rules) to say if its the same, but I can't tell you how many rounds fighters/melee people are stuck at higher levels doing only a fraction of their normal damage because they moved and attack. Having a feat or two that allows you to be awesome with a standard attack, like cleave, comes into handy more often than ya might suspect.
Tessai is right...fighters can switch out based on certain guidelines...and my own houserules allow players to switch for Power Points, as well.

Beppo van Drotske |

Good points there.
I had not considered the similar effects of FF and WF. I had thought about CR, and how our combat by description style might affect it. As Devil says, probably better to see if I later find myself saying "if only I had another AoO..." - these days, I tend to say to myself, "if only I could HIT that damn thing..." which argues for Weapon Focus.
Still, it never hurts to get an extra attack roll, so with that, our particular PbP combat rules, and the peer pressure [ :P ] I'm deciding on Cleave.

Corellon Aelasar |

Well ... on that note I would also entertain the same input on my Rogue talent - I took weapon focus for the +1 to attack, but there are many other options. I tried to think of balancing with the rest of the party and the rules approach we are using. I could have gone for two weapon fighting with an off hand short sword or gone down an archery track but I was feeling more of the 1st/1ns line combatant thing.

![]() |

Agreed. We had a two weapon rogue in my homebrew group. He rarely had an issue pulling his weight.
I'm not sure about a ranged route. Unless you have a special feat or rogue trick I'm not thinking of, most rogues only sneak within 30' ranged IF their target is flat-footed (or the attacker is invis). Flanking is, by far, the most common way rogues get sneak damage. By its definition, flank attacks have to be melee.

The Black Devil |

Could five ioun torch be had? Devil apparently has the price of five @ 75gp ea. This would want to be a purchase from a trusted source, since five at once declares a group working in darkness...
When we use them, we might prefer just hanging them on cords around our necks. Easier to stash and to make ready that way.

Beppo van Drotske |

GM JCS: Side note -- and this is probably just me being anal, but can you set our "Devil We Know, Part 1" page to "inactive"?
I had fun with it, but I have this OCD thing about having my campaigns tab only show as active the ones that have yet to be completed.
Thanks.

Ok...cratin'.... the book does list both different values. There is no official errata. I can see where you came up with 5+.
My take on it is this.
The DC should be 10+CL. I'll tell you why.
First, the DCs to create most 'mundane' items like vials of Acid and the such are like between 15-20. Only crafting of my mundane items like spoons, pots, etc are between 5-10. Stating that creating a magic potion is only 6-10 just strikes me as really wrong. I know its magic, but it shouldn't be the equivalent of making a spoon (Yes, I know its a different craft)
Next, if you take 10 (and who doesn't...no one wants a cursed item), and you're putting 1 skill pt into craft every level, you'll always succeed at 10+CL. If you stop putting points into it, and you have no other bonuses, your chances of creating higher level magical items is no longer gaurenteed with a take 10. Also, if you rush an item (which adds 5 to the DC, I believe) or take other short cuts, taking 10 isn't possible unless you've got a high stat and/or have another advantage like a feat specialization. That makes sense to me from a mechanic standpoint. At 5+ you can cut corners and still be successfur more times than not.
Again, as long as your skill with Craft Alchemy is at least twice your spell casting level, you can take 10 and succeed with no chance of failure. Without having your character sheet in front of me, I'm sure you have a few points in INT being an alchemist. Chances are your Craft is already around 3-5...which means that if you had access to thsoe spells, you could create 2nd level potions with no chance of failure. At 6 total in craft alchemy, you would create 3rd level potions once you have those spells.
Let me know if you have further questions.

![]() |

I just realized on my drive that my math above for Craftin' potions is wrong for an alchemist. I need to errata my errata on the errata! The DC to brew potions for an alchemist (assuming minimum CL for each tier) ...
Lv 1: DC 11
Lv 2: DC 14
Lv 3: DC 17
So taking 10 you don't need that many pts at all in each one...especially given you probably have a decent INT.
If you exceed a DC on a take 10 by 5 (i.e. you have a Craft Potion skill of +6 and you take 10...for a total of 16) you can create two of the item in the time it would take to create 1. Alternatively, you can increase the CL of the potion to make it more effective
Example: A potion of CLW heal 1d10+5 (CL: 5) instead of 1d10+1 would be a DC 15. You need a Craft: Brew Potion of +5 to take 10 and have a 100% chance.
Example: You can create TWO CLW 1d10+5 (CL: 5) in the time it takes to make 1 (2 hours) if you have a Craft: Brew Potion of +10. (You must still pay for reagents for 2)
I am considering house rules to reward people who invest further into their crafting. With Brew Potion, you cannot create more than a lv 3 potion, so there's really no reason for an alchemist to have more than a 7-17 skill there, depending on whether or not he wants to make higher CL potions and/or make two atta time. I'm considering allowing empowered versions of potions (they're super potent!) for DC of +15-+20.
Generally, travelin' adventurers have 2 hours/day to create items. However, this is a city based adventure and y'all won't be travelin' much. On a day that you don't fight, you have the full 8 hours and are considered to have the quite facilities necessary to craft. On days you fight, fatigue is still an issue, though not as much as a traveling group. Consider yourself to have a good 4 hours of crafting time on those days (that would be today's game day, for example).

An another note...I've always known and allowed the following...
The cost to add additional abilities to an item is the same as if the item was not magical, less the value of the original item. Thus, a +1 longsword can be made into a +2 vorpal longsword, with the cost to create it being equal to that of a +2 vorpal sword minus the cost of a +1 longsword.
That's basically upgrading your weapon, armor, etc... it's available to all players in any of my games, including PFS. What I didn't know is this...
If the item is one that occupies a specific place on a character's body, the cost of adding any additional ability to that item increases by 50%. For example, if a character adds the power to confer invisibility to her ring of protection 2, the cost of adding this ability is the same as for creating a ring of invisibility multiplied by 1.5.
Interesting!! That opens up some possibilities for the rich!
