Iron in the Snow

Game Master waynemarkstubbs

The people of this icy world have not had iron since the time of the Worldbreaking. Now, the orcs of the north swarm forth armed with the grey metal. Will they stain the snow red with blood?

Guys, I'm feeling over committed PBP wise. I'm gonna have to withdraw from this. It's been fun, thanks for the chance to play.

M Human Oracle/2

Sad! I've really enjoyed Tupilek, both the wisdom and authority he brings to the group, as well as the sheer brute force he brings to battles.

We're close enough back to the human lands that I'll DM the character for now. Then another player can either take over the character, or rotate in their own.

Sorry to hear that Tupilek.

Male Human Ranger2

Farewell, Mammothlord!

If you wish I can switch in a better character when we can easily work in.

Yeah - if this is a chance to remove characters and stop us needing to head back to the human lands I am okay with it.

Moklik - Run won't actually increase your daily travel speed any more than expeditious retreat. Endurance, however, absolutely will!

Sending Tupilek back to the human lands while the rest of us harass the orcs I am okay with. If we can make them chase us for a while we may be okay.

Asheru's point is a good one. We can afford to get fatigued (or even exhausted). Orcs cannot. Additionally they'll probably want to travel at night to avoid the light blindedness. If they don't have supplies they're probably having to forage as they go.

Male Human Ranger2

What I am thinking is something similar to what happened with the Battle of Thermopylae. While the Spartans fought the Athenians were busy evacuating their City. The Spartans knew all along they wouldn't survive the Battle but chose to fight if it meant saving Greece. That is also why only those who had sons were chosen.

DM: could Bonewright carve a tiny message onto a bone and give it to Nosoi to carry to another Bonewright who is in the human lands?
Figure the problems are
(1) Finding another Bonewright
(2) Convincing that Bonewright to tell the humans
(3) needing to be soemwhere where Nosoi can find him after

M Human Oracle/2

I'm just not sure I want to die just yet, at least not if I'm not certain there isn't another way that doesn't involve Asheru's self sacrifice.

Male Human Ranger2

Well if I calculated correctly you would be one of the Faster of us...

M Human Oracle/2

If that's true, then I've been misunderstanding as there's nothing that hastens Asheru's speed. So he's no faster than any other human would be, and possesses no spells to make that faster.

I think you might be making two much of this. A dozen (eleven now) orcs aren't going to be conquering the human lands or razing a whole village on their own. Either this is a scout party, a raiding party sent to harass and disrupt, or they are going to be meeting up with a larger force, prior to doing whatever it is they are going to do. Unless they are marching in a straight line for the nearest village, you could probably slip by them fairly easily if you want to.

Male Human Ranger2

Sorry, I said that horribly...

What I meant was that you would serve better in the Messenger Party. That way you could help make sure the message was believed.

How Caedmon sees this is:

-This force is either a scouting/raiding/reinforcement party.
-They are Orcs.

Killing them means less Orcs for the later battles, more Orcs killed, and more, non-Orc, lives saved.

M Human Oracle/2

Makes sense. And yes, I was clearly overthinking the whole situation :/

Male Human Ranger2

What do you mean?

M Human Oracle/2

I was picturing the party as bigger than it was, and trying to head off an attack on the human village. Rather than a scouting party to simply skirt by.

Male Human Ranger2

Ah yeah that does make sense.

So, let's slip past them. We've come up with a bunch of strategies that might work, but I'm not sure if the DM needs them from us.

M Human Oracle/2

Sounds great to me. Let's skirt the scouting party and make our way back with our own information (and map now, it seems)

I'll be with you shortly.

Sorry, I've been laid up for a few days with something that knocked me off my feet and gave me weird-ass fever dreams. I'm up and about today, and there will be an update shortly.

Huh - I've been sick too. Glad to hear you are feeling better!

Male Human Ranger2

It isn't a problem so don't push yourself. We have all been there at some time.

M Human Oracle/2

Well played, waynemarkstubbs.

Everyone loves a good montage!

Male Human Ranger2

I'm so happy that appeared.

Woo-hoo! Let's do this... are you waiting for Bonewright?

Should we jump to arrival at the camp?

Male Human Ranger2

I would say that would be best.

Posting now

Male Human Ranger2

*Cricket Cricket*

So... What's up?

@Asheru:

What I was thinking of for you being one of the Faster ones is the fact that you aren't a warrior and aren't armoured.

M Human Oracle/2

Indeed, that makes sense :)

Male Human Ranger2

I'm starting to wonder if I might should step up the speed on my Late Bronze Age/Early Iron Age Campaign...

Male Human Ranger2

By-the-way: If we get the chance to swap in new characters or such what is everyone's current plan?

Personally, If we can't get a good replacement for Tupilek I might look into building a Fighter(Tactician).

Though I am curious as to how the Archetype's Tactician Ability works. Such as does that Fighter gain a Feat or does it just grant the ability to give any Teamwork Feat they know?

I hate to say it Caedmon, but I'm wondering if it is just you and me in here now. :(

Male Human Ranger2

I thought Asheru was lurking about...

Do we even have a GM anymore?

Maybe I really do need to speed up my 'Beast War' Campaign...

Ah well, whatever happens it has been a great campaign.

Male Human Ranger2

Oh yeah. Kinda nice to play in a campaign where you don't end-up with moments that make you feel like your in a movie akin to Robin Hood: Men in Tights.

M Human Oracle/2

Aye, I'm still lurking about. But I apologize for not joining in. To be honest I've been waiting to see if we still had a GM running things. Although I imagine if I had been speaking up as well, it would have been more encouraging.

Male Human Ranger2

Hmm... I just built a troglodyte inspired race... I now fear for my sanity...

I had been intrigued by them too. The ancient race they descended from and all...

Male Human Ranger2

Well I am the type of Player and GM that would rather have my Humanoid Enemies be a Race with Class Levels than a basic stat block from a bestiary. Adds more variety and challenges while making things slightly easier for building things like Minotaur Shamans and Troglodyte Chieftains.

for me it was more that the bestiary description talks about how there was a time when the troglodytes were the civilized technologically advanced race surrounded by savage humanoids.

I like the idea of seeing the troglodytes "before the fall".

Male Human Ranger2

Oh wow I never seen that before...

Now I really wanna design a campaign based around an Uprising that brings about the fall of the Troglodytes...

Do it! Fascinating golarion campaign I would think. You could use this campaign for inspiration!

Male Human Ranger2

Only thing is I don't really know Golarion...

Ah - yeah that could be a problem. What settings do you know?

Male Human Ranger2

Mainly my own...

I have been trying to learn more about Golarion unfortunately my IRL Gaming Group tends to like a bit more Fantasy than what Golarion offers.

!
More than Golarion?
Might have trouble getting them into a bronze aged game then...

Male Human Ranger2

Well the Bronze Age Campaign might be run on here or another Online Game Site.

Male Human Ranger2

Well I am just gonna think of this one on Hiatus and start work on my own campaign...

Anyone interested in helping me iron out some details?
