Dromer hacks the beetle clean in two as it attempts to get by him to his dwarven ally.
Smith if you want to step up one more space you can hit one of the others instead, Dromer obliterated Yellow

Dromer Greyskin |

I won't be able to post again until tomorrow, so here's my next attack, since there'll probably be one left by the time it comes back around to me.
Dromer lessens his arc and brings his sword down on top of the beetle right in front of him.

You hit AC, go ahead and confirm crit roll damage
Also -- if he kills one? I'll give you fair warning now. If I throw 3 of something at you at level 1, and 23 points of greatsword crit doesn't kill one of them... RUN! ;P

Iantha Narili |

Huh. I totally mis-remembered the crit range on a crossbow. Also, they are big and I am small. I have no idea what's happening to that beetle. Dromer, move your legs so I can see!

As Dromer swings his sword, you notice there is nothing in front of him. You could swear there was a third critter there a moment ago, but now there's nothing. You then notice that Dromer is dripping with beetlejuice. Immediately afterwards, Iantha launches a crossbow bolt that manages to pierce the remaining beetle, but only barely. It then turns its head to the android who swung on it seconds earlier.

I really should have prepped an acid splash or something. Stupid!
I know the feeling. My Inquisitor / Pain Taster-in-training is in a nasty fight with a yeti in another PbP, with one man down, another close, and horrible d20 rolls across the party. My first thought was "Why the hell does my pain-loving Inquisitor not have Inflict Light Wounds?" Needless to say that since he's level 1, he's learning it right after the scenario is done lol
Hroren and Smith each swing on the beetle, while Miranda cheers on, only to miss fabulously while the beetle stares at his running android prey.

Bye bye beetle indeed. This is why I usually play melee beatsticks!
As your ally seemingly begins to transform before you very eyes, he brings down his sword, destroying the final beetle just like the last. If you ever need a partner in close combat, you know he is the one you call on.
End of combat
Miranda and Iantha, while still not feeling well due to the general odor of this place and the water, feel much better than before Not sickened
To the north you see the stream continues around a corner and heads east, and a small stream pours out of the wall. The water in the stream heading east is clearly the same filth you swam through, but doesn't look thick enough to cause any of the same problems.
To the east is a small ledge, about 10 feet high.

Dromer Greyskin |

Dromer sticks the tip of his sword into the ground and leans on it for a moment, catching his breath.
"Sorry... I'm usually more level headed than that. But once I saw that beetle chomp through your leg, I got worried it might do the same to someone else..."
He sheaths his sword, and then realizes he's filthy. Turning to Iantha, he asks, "I don't suppose you have any of that water left over?"

Iantha Narili |

Feeling a lot better, Iantha gestures enthousiasticly, and a gallon of water splashes down on Dromer.
"Of course I do! Let me do that a bit more precise for you. And let me clean out your wounds too."
Gently Iantha guides Dromer into a sitting position. Creating more water, she first cleans off the bits of bug, before carefully cleaning the wound on Dromer's leg.
"Its clean now. Its not severe but still quite nast. Those pincers dont slice clean. Do you want healing? I could heal you and Smith both."
With some concern on her face Iantha looks from Dromer to Smith.

Iantha Narili |

Now its Iantha's turn to look quite blankly at Dromer.
Yes, of course....? Brigh cares for all creatures. Flesh or metal, she gives me the power to heal all.
With some pity Iantha looks at Dromer. Poor boy. He must not have known much love.

Dromer Greyskin |

"Huh. Okay. I just figured we needed to repair him or something."
Dromer flips his hair away from his face.
"He looks more hurt than I am. If you got enough to touch us both up, that'd be great. If you're limited, patch him up first."
Dromer stands and stretches, and tries to see what's atop the plateau.
"I've had enough of the water for now. Want to go for a climb?"

Smith_ |

"My self healing systems will take several days to fully reseal the wound. Brigh, the creator has blessed us with enough flesh that healing magics function normally as well. In the mean time the wound will not interfere with my operational ability."
I think I single channel might be called for.

Dromer Greyskin |

"Huh. Learn something new every day."
...after whatever healing takes place...
Dromer rifles through his backpack and pulls out a grappling hook attached to 50ft of rope, then slings the coils over his shoulder.
He steps back over the crushed insects to get a running start, and jumps up to catch the top of the ledge.
Acrobatics, Take 10: 10 + 5 = 15 (makes a vertical jump of 3ft)
Climb, Take 10: 10 + 5 = 15
Once on top, he secures his hook and lowers the rope for everyone else to follow.
"Now this is spelunking," he grins. "I wonder what we'll find?"

Before Dromer starts his climb, he feels a tug at his sleeve. Hroren has sidled up behind him and has an apologetic look on his face.
"Lad, there are two things I'm not particular good at, and I'm about to do both. Firstly, sorry I couldn't stop you getting hurt. I know it weren't much damage, but I've been protecting people my whole life and I still failed you."
The dwarf inhales deeply, obviously struggling to find the right words.
"And secondly, you hit well. I'll leave that there." The dwarf briskly turns and starts a slow deliberate climb up the slope.
Take 20 on the climb for a 16 total.

Post away, I am enjoying this immensely and I have always some time to check and post and I love character interaction (unless I am asleep. Sleeping is a hobby I enjoy immensely)
Iantha's mouth falls open a bit as she stares in surprise at Smith. Wow! That's a lot of talking for him!
Still clad in nothing but her own fur, Iantha clasps her paws in front of her. Whispering a small prayer, she then grasps her necklace with the mask on it and releases a torrent of positive energy.

Seeing her comrades feel better, Iantha whispers another prayer to thank Brigh.
Letting Hroren and Dromer take their time climbing up the ledge, Iantha takes a moment to tend to her fur, carefully brushing trough it with her paws to make it neat and tidy a gain before putting on her clothes and armor.

A collection of stalactites and stalagmites choke this low-ceilinged
cavern, making it difficult to squeeze between them.
Matching stalactites close in from the five-foot-high ceiling,
giving the impression of a maw of needlelike teeth bearing
down on one another. A still corpse sprawls on the ground
near the cave’s eastern entrance.
This area is low-light, from the glow of a few dead fire beetles littering the area. Difficult terrain.

Iantha Narili |

Glad for the rope, Iantha scrambles up to the ledge.
Take 10 with the rope for 8 should be enough
Once on top, she straightens her pack, and gets out her shield and morning star. "Thank you Dromer. Being small makes a slight ledge quite the obstacle."
Peering into the gloom, Iantha takes a few steps forward to make room for her comrades climbing up.

Dromer Greyskin |

Dromer gazes at the formations with the wonder of a child and carefully climbs through the narrow openings like it was a jungle gym, leaving his rope behind.
Knowledge (dungeoneering): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (16) + 8 = 24
"Wooow! Look at these speleothems!. See the ones coming from the top? They're stalactites. And those," he says, pointing to the ground formations, "are stalagmites. When they meet, they form columns... Oh, wow! And there's even some drapery here! That's unusual."
Dromer beams with pride.
"Stalactites make it tight to squeeze, while stalagmites you might trip over."
He's a kid in a candy store.
I'd say he's probably too distracted to immediately notice the body.

Dromer's exitement is contagious, and Iantha follows him closely. Being a lot smaller, its far more easier to move between the stalagmites and stalactites.
Giggling a bit, Iantha points at the rock formations. "I didnt know they were classified as speleothems. We did have a different way to remember what a stalagmite and a stalactite is.... Stalactites are like tites. Titties. They hang."
She giggles some more.

Climbing on, she nearly bumps into Dromer's back when he suddenly stops walking. "What? What is it? What do you see?"
Concerned by Dromer's tone, Iantha squeezes past his leg, only then spotting the corpse. "Oh no..."
Concerned, she rushes forward, not noticing that Dromer is staying behind. Putting her morningstar and shield on the ground, she carefully checks the body.

Miranda has kept mostly quiet for several minutes, simply climbing up the rope and following them. She is mentally chastising herself for not preparing any way to deal with vermin, and promising herself not to make the same mistake again.
When the party finds the body of the half-orc, she approaches cautiously. "Do we know who it is?"

Iantha Narili |

With a sad sigh, Iantha stands back up. "Not much to tell. She's been dead for nearly a week as far as I can tell. The beetles didnt get her, that's for sure. She's covered in stab wounds. Most likely from a dagger, altough a short sword could also be possible. This was not a fast death I'm afraid."
Seeing Dromer is still distraught, Iantha walks up to him and gently puts a paw on his arm. "I'm sorry Dromer, but there is nothing we can do. Dont blame yourself."

Gah! Not Parda! Stupid, stupid, stupid...
Dromer just stares at the body for a minute before speaking.
"Yeah... No... I mean..."
He holds in a breath, and then sighs.
"You're right. No. Not our fault. The League did this. Pressure makes good people..." his thought trails off.
"I suppose... I suppose we should tell her family. I can't remember if she had any real family in town, though. Maybe after we're done with this... we should take her back with us."

Iantha Narili |

Keeping her paw a moment longer on Dromer's arm, Iantha nods. "Yes. We can take her back with us. I didnt know her personal, but I believe she was well liked. Besides, she deserves a proper burial."
The moment Dromer seems to get it together again, Iantha lets go of his arm. Poor boy... Its not easy seeing yourself reflected in someone elses fate.
