I am glad to hear you speak in such defiance of the league, it is good to know we may finally have worthy adventurers that can stand up to them if needed.
I am afraid I cannot give any sort of protection of your head or other body parts, I can only grant you the ability to breath beneath the surface. Or, more accurately, Brigh herself will grant you that ability, and allow me to be the channel for her power.
Dwarf, I know why you stay away. I thank you for that, but it is not necessary. Come, and I will help you all.
When you all get closer, he pulls out a small, intricate rod. Kyte whispers a short prayer as he puts his hands upon your shoulders, one by one. As he touches each of you, you feel something in your chest, as if the very biological makeup of your lungs has changed.
Go my friends, you should have no issue swimming through the pond now, not for several hours at least.
I wish I had a more positive answer, but Baine wasn't much for writing his findings, and the only way you'll find his research, is to find him and ask him for it.

Hroren Ironbarrow |

Hroren gingerly steps over the threshold of the doorway, as if fearing the floor would collapse underneath him. "Bloody Brigh..." Finding that he hasn't immediately been struck down by falling contraptions, he walks up to the councilman.
"Aye, and well met councilman. Thank you for your aid. Know that if the league attack here again, my aid will certainly be at hand."
As the rod touches his chest, the short dwarf lets out a gasp. "You say this blessing will last a number of hours? Do you know how long Baine was underwater on his expedition? Is it much of a swim?" I'm sure I could hold my breath anyway. These are the lungs of a stonelord.

Dromer Greyskin |

Dromer flips his hair away from his face.
As he touches each of you, you feel something in your chest, as if the very biological makeup of your lungs has changed.
Dromer freezes. This... This should feel new... He takes a few deep breaths. This... This feels... Normal... Somehow... Natural...
He watches with interest to see the reactions of his party members.

Iantha Narili |

Iantha bows to her fellow priest. "My thanks for giving us Brigh's gift. May she guide our research."
Turning towards the others, "If Councelor Baine's research is not easily accessable, I suggest we take a close look at the robot he found. It might provide us with some clues as to what lies below."

Kyte thinks for a moment
It should, if you do not stand around for any idle chit chat, something I'll warn you his daughter is likely to want.

![]() |

Kyte bids you farewell as you head on your way to Khonnir's home
Since we had 3/2 and Iantha's change was to keep it going, I had you go to the robot
You make your way southwest, towards Khonnir's home and tavern by the entrance to the town. The news of your quest has obviously spread quickly throughout Torch, as multiple people stop you along the way to offer thanks and good luck.
As you approach the tavern, you hear a terrified voice call from inside.
SOMEBODY HELP! It's going insane!
Inside the open door, you see some sort of robot rampaging throughout the tavern, knocking over everything in sight, and literally tearing the building apart one stone at a time! The machine stumbles around quickly on three legs, with almost humanoid arms, torso, and head.
I placed you in a simple order of toughies up front everyone else to the back, feel free to rearrange before starting
*cue intense battle music!*
Hroren: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (7) + 0 = 7

Glad I got my low d20 rolls out of the way ;)

Iantha Narili |

Cautious as to what has activated the robot and set it on its rampage, Iantha draws her morningstar and shield before taking a few steps inside.
"Robot, please, stand down, we mean you no harm, but will defend ourselves if we need to."

Dromer Greyskin |

Back from DunDraCon! Sorry to hold everything up.
Flipping his hair away from his face, Dromer replies to Miranda before heading in, "I slept through my Intro to Technology class... Remind me again what the difference is between Disable and Destroy?"
Pulling his Greatsword as he heads in, Dromer cautiously strikes at the creature defensively.
Greatsword, Fighting Defensive: 1d20 + 3 - 4 ⇒ (20) + 3 - 4 = 19
Damage: 2d6 + 3 ⇒ (1, 6) + 3 = 10
Confirm crit?: 1d20 + 3 - 4 ⇒ (3) + 3 - 4 = 2
Damage: 2d6 + 3 ⇒ (4, 4) + 3 = 11
"How was that?", he shouts back at the group.
AC temporarily 20 for one round.

The robot reaches out with both arms to cut out more of the building, just in time for the 1/16th orc to hack them both off in a single swing, as well as part of what you can only assume is a face.
I hate to be the bearer of extremely surprising news, but no, that crit did not confirm.
The robot turns what is left of its body, and rams its head towards Dromer's chest.
Slam vs. Dromer: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
Unfortunately what it lost in Dromer's attack was one of its optical sensors, and it doesn't come anywhere near its target.
Round 1
Bold may act
Dromer
Iantha
Robot
Hroren
Smith
Miranda

Smith_ |

Smith explains the simplest difference calmly "Stop hitting it when it stops moving."
Know:Engineering w/Technologist: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (17) + 8 = 25
as he moves up and raises his left hand revealing severly burnt fingertips with hints of circuitry beneath.
With a flick of his wrist a bit of brackish green fluid shoots out towards the robot.
Acid Splash Touch-melee: 1d20 + 2 - 4 ⇒ (14) + 2 - 4 = 12
Acid Damage: 1d3 ⇒ 2

Hroren Ironbarrow |

"Then hit it once more, just for good measure!" The dwarf almost whoops with glee at the chance for battle. I'd been getting rusty these last few days on the road. Time to show the young-ins how it's done.
As he rushes forward, Hroren mutters under his breath, listing of his mental cues for a perfect attack. Use the momentum of your weapon draw to enable the charge. Know the enemy. Know the ground you stand on. Embrace the blood of your forefathers. Commit to the moment. Strike! With that, the dwarf brings his hammer crashing down.
Attack: 1d20 + 4 + 1 + 1 + 2 - 1 ⇒ (17) + 4 + 1 + 1 + 2 - 1 = 24
damage: 1d12 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9
Free Action: Banter.
Swift Action: Stonestrike.
Move Action: Charge, Draw Lucerne Hammer
Standard Action: (Power) Attack!!!! (Reach)

Smith's acid doesn't do much, but it melted some of the robot's exterior to the point that Hroren's hammer smashed it with ease, leaving it as little more than a bundle of sparking wires with legs.
The robot turns to Hroren and speaks loudly, in a staticy voice, who knows where from as its head is no longer attached.
Right as it begins to speak, Miranda lets off one final assault, managing to hit it dead center, leaving it a disfunctional heap of scraps on the tavern floor.
A few moments later, you hear a child-like voice from the room you passed as you entered.

Iantha Narili |

Iantha lowers her weapon, approaching the robot carefully. "Dont know madam, let me check."
Kneeling next to the robot, Iantha places a hand on its frame. Concentrating for a moment, she whispers a prayer to Brigh, letting the information flow trough her.
Using the Lorekeeper domain ability to find out more about the robot, giving me the information as if I made the appropriate Knowledge skill check with a result equal to 19

Dromer Greyskin |

Is... Is it dead? Who are you people?
Dromer removes his sword from the pile of debris and stows it on his back before appraising the woman.
"Uhh... Sorry... Hope that wasn't yours."
What does she look like? Halfling? Human child? Something else?
Turning to Smith, Dromer asks, "Hey, green-eyes... What was this thing, anyways?"

![]() |

Sorry Smith, missed your knowledge check earlier
She looks to be human, hardly even in her teens.

Val_Baine |

It was my father's, but it just tried to kill me and destroy his tavern, so... I don't think he'll be mad at you. I was in the back room cleaning up, and out of nowhere it turned on and started charging around knocking everything over and tearing about the walls! I don't know the language well, but I was able to pick out that I think it was trying to repair... well, anything.

Dromer Greyskin |

Dromer flips his hair away from his face.
To the group, he asks, "You think this was the robot we were looking for?"
Then, realizing that the girl still doesn't know who they are, Dromer answers her question from earlier. "We're trying to find out what happened to the flame. I'm Dromer. This is Miranda, Pops, Green-eyes, and Iantha. Councillor Dolga sent us."

Smith_ |

Smith shurgs as Dromer calls him Green-eyes and ignores the conversation for now to check out the robot and see if repairs are potentially possible at some future time.

Hroren Ironbarrow |

More annoyed by Dromer's disregard for the girl's circumstance than at the jibe about his age, Hroren puts away his hammer and steps towards Val.
"We're heading under Blackhill to look for your father. Dolga said that a robbit had been brought up from below, and we wanted to make sure we had as much information as possible before heading under. My name is Hroren, and I promise you we'll get your father back."

Val_Baine |

Well, uh, if you're looking for the robot my father found, I hope you are good at sifting through worthless scraps on a tavern floor. My father's been trying to find out what happened to the flame, he should be able to help if you can find out what's happened to him. Unfortunately I've only just started my studies with him, and don't know what help I could be...

Miranda Andegar |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |

"Well then, we'll do just that. Friends, let's try to piece together the robot that we came here for."
Perception: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (20) + 0 = 20
Kn.engineering: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (18) + 11 = 29

Iantha Narili |

Iantha waves Miranda over exitedly. Some tiny bits of metal are stuck in her fur, probably due to static electricity.
"Miranda, come see how beautiful it is inside! The wiring is realy delicate in places."
Iantha continues her search, literally sniffing some parts.
perception: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8
Dont have knowledge engeneering, other then what I got with the domain ability. I do have the technologist feat. And I'll use Scent to sniff it out. Because I'm a rat.

![]() |

Miranda, I'm going to have to ask you use different dice :P
Miranda, Smith, and Iantha don't seem to find anything useful, broken or otherwise. The robot was too damaged even before you got here to be able to find anything.
As you poke and prod at the scraps, occasionally wires spark, usually followed by a quick gasp from Val. This robot doesn't seem to be anything special, and you can't quite figure out why Khonnir was so fascinated by it.

Val_Baine |

Val disappears into the back room for a few moments, and walks out holding a vial of some kind of red liquid.
If you don't have a place to stay and work, I think my father wouldn't mind it for the people who will save him.
She goes quiet and gets a disappointed look on her face
You will save him, right? Take this, him and Joram made it. I'm still learning and can't make it yet, but maybe they could get you more after he gets back
She walks over to Dromer and reaches her arm out to give him the vial.

Miranda Andegar |

Miranda, I'm going to have to ask you use different dice :P
Trust me, it's balancing out in my other campaigns... :(

Iantha Narili |

Iantha looks up from the robot, her expression serious when she adresses Val.
"We will do our best. I know the presedent set by other groups isnt good, but we'll do our utmost best to save your father."

Dromer Greyskin |

She walks over to Dromer and reaches her arm out to give him the vial.
"Oh. Uhh... Thanks."
Dromer takes the vial, but then just stands there awkwardly, as if he doesn't deserve the gift. After several moments, looking unsure of what to do, he sniffs it.
Perception to identify if it's a potion: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 23

Val_Baine |

It's definitely a potion of some kind
Val laughs a little at seeing Dromer sniff the concoction, the first real smile you've seen since you met her.
Hehe, it's not going to hurt you. My father was never a healer, and Joram has never been good at making potions, so sometimes they work together to create healing vials for people. They told me it's not a very strong spell, but it's as strong as they could make. He left it for me in case the robot, well, did what it did. I don't need it anymore though and it's the least I could do to say thank you.
