Smith suddenly looks up. "Yes, nourishment prior to descending. We are limited in our current allotment of time before the duration of certain key magics run their course though."

I might have something if you're looking for quick. It's not much since you don't have time for anything fresh made, but it's on the house.
She goes to the back room again and comes out with a wooden board covered in various breads and cheeses, as well as a little bit of meat.
I had just made this to eat while I worked on the machine, I didn't exactly get around to eating. Whenever you're done, just follow the stream down the road to the north, you'll know the area when you see it.
You pass some homes on the way, and unless you stop anywhere (there doesn't seem to be anyone out and about at the moment), you find yourself at the pond after about 5 minutes of walking.
The placid-looking pond is set off from the surrounding area by a crescent-shaped escarpment. No vegetation is growing around the pond, and the waters have a strong scent of strange chemicals, enough that your eyes begin to water as you get close to the shore.

Iantha Narili |

Iantha thanks Val numerous times for the food, while building herself a tripple layered sandwich.
Still eating while walking, once the party arrives at the pond, she quickly swallows the last of the bread.
"Pfew what a smell!"
Eyes watering she covers her nose. Looking dejected at the lack of vegetation she exclaims, "Not the kind of place I would like to go skinny dipping."

Smith_ |

Smith, seemingly unaffected by the chemical scent merely states "I believe we have arrived." and without delay with step into the pond.

Miranda Andegar |

"Well put, Dromer. I will try to detect any magical auras that may lead us in the right direction. Otherwise, we will just have to search."
Miranda casts detect magic and stares down into the water.

Hroren Ironbarrow |

Looking at the dark, foul stinking water, Hroren resists the urge to gulp.
"Yes, we should definitely use some... caution before setting off under the water. Yes, that seems prudent." A cool sweat is apparent on the aged dwarf's brow. "And besides, the Master Of Ways does remind us that waiting 40 minutes after eating is most prudent for optimal swimming."
Seeing Smith simply walk forward into the water however, Hroren sighs and starts to stiffly march into the pond.

Miranda Andegar |

"Hush now, child. You don't want to offend our dwarven ally. Anyone can swim if they wish to."
Miranda steps into the water but still tries to see any magical auras under the water before she submurges herself.

Iantha Narili |

Looking weirdly at how everyone steps just into the water with their clothes on, Iantha strips naked, stuffing everything in her backpack as good as she can manage.
Naked, the ratfolk looks a lot like her four legged bretheren. Fully covered in fur, there isnt really anything that would indicate gender.
Slinging her pack on her back and nose wrinkled, Iantha enters the water and takes off paddeling.

I'll need Fort saves from everyone
Miranda is unable to pick up any traces of magic, and the surface is too dark to see through. As you go below, you can see a hint of light coming through the northern floor of the pond.
Anyone can swim if they wish to
Swim, sink like a rock, what's the difference?

"Crusty" |

Fort: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16
Edit: for consistency, going forward, I'll always roll for Dromer first and Crusty second, when both are subject to a save at the same time.
Edit#2: same for skill checks, like Perception and Knowledge (after Crusty gets the ability to speak with master, aka when Dromer starts "hearing voices" in his head).

![]() |

Other than the light coming from the northeastern section of the floor, you don't see anything. Not because the water is murky, simply because this seems to be an otherwise normal pond - which is likely why no one found the secret entrance until recently. Well, that and the water.
None of you feel good swimming in this filth, but Iantha in particular feels almost sick to the stomach.

Iantha Narili |

It takes Iantha a moment to overcome her aversion of the water, then she breathes easy, knowing Brigh protects her.
With a steady paddle, she moves towards the light, not wanting to spend a second longer in the chemicals then she has to.

![]() |

As you approach the light, you see that it's coming from the secret passage you've heard about. Only about 40 feet long and 5 feet wide most of the way, you easily make your way through and surface at the other end.
Miranda and Iantha, you are sickened.
Dampness hangs in the air of this cave, condensing into heavy
moisture on the slick, stone walls. The calm, dark waters wind
around to the east up north, along a stony, soot-scarred beach.
A five-foot-high ledge sporting several stalagmites rises to the
east, beyond which a low-ceilinged cave beckons.
As you surface, you find three florescent orange beetles, digging through piles of ash against the far wall.

Smith's skin will harden at the sight of possible danger as he looks to his companions for guidance.

Dromer Greyskin |

Crusty: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (14) - 1 = 13
Dromer: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 14
Crusty won't be acting in Initiative until level 3 at the earliest (and probably not even then). It'll just stay attached. Dromer's not entirely aware that it's really another creature, yet. He just knows that sometimes his "body" has a mind of its own.

One of the beetles rushes forward towards the intimidating creature running towards it with a metal implement of death!
Bite: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8
Unfortunately in it's attempts to avoid running headfirst into a wall, it misses sinking itself into Dromer.

Smith steps forward and attempts to squish the yellow bug with an overhand smash from his quarterstaff.
Smashy: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 1 = 15
Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
"Should things become more dire I have certain magics that will help up. These tight quarters remind me of squishing bugs back home though."
