Dromer flips his hair away from his face, revealing the slightest of smiles as well.

"Thanks."

Looking at his companions, he adds, "We'll try to make this right."

*gurgle gurgle gurgle*

[retired]

Dromer suddenly looks embarrassed again.

"Uhh... You wouldn't happen to have any food back there, would you?"

Ratfolk Iron Priest of Brigh | HP 9/9 | AC 16 | Touch 12 | FF 15 | Fort +3 | Ref +1 | Will +5 | Percption +1 | Scent | Darkvision | Channel Energy 5/5

OH-EM-GEE you got an alias for your tumor?! That's hilarious!

From somewhere in the robot guts, two ears perk up. "Food?"

Smith suddenly looks up. "Yes, nourishment prior to descending. We are limited in our current allotment of time before the duration of certain key magics run their course though."

"Grab and go is my specialty!"

Male Dwarf Paladin (Stonelord) 1

"Certainly, a quick nibble would be excellent, if it's no imposition on you Miss Baine."

Female half-elf "paladin" of Desna 1 | HP 13/18 | AC 17 | Fort +5, Ref +7, Will +5 | Focus points 0/1 | Perception +1 | Hero points: 2

"Alright then, let's stop off at a tavern or meal house quickly, then we will head to the water and find this young lady's father!"

Ratfolk Iron Priest of Brigh | HP 9/9 | AC 16 | Touch 12 | FF 15 | Fort +3 | Ref +1 | Will +5 | Percption +1 | Scent | Darkvision | Channel Energy 5/5

Shaking the bits of metal from the fur, Iantha looks up hopefull to Val, with big gleaming eyes. "Food?"

I might have something if you're looking for quick. It's not much since you don't have time for anything fresh made, but it's on the house.

She goes to the back room again and comes out with a wooden board covered in various breads and cheeses, as well as a little bit of meat.

I had just made this to eat while I worked on the machine, I didn't exactly get around to eating. Whenever you're done, just follow the stream down the road to the north, you'll know the area when you see it.

You pass some homes on the way, and unless you stop anywhere (there doesn't seem to be anyone out and about at the moment), you find yourself at the pond after about 5 minutes of walking.

The placid-looking pond is set off from the surrounding area by a crescent-shaped escarpment. No vegetation is growing around the pond, and the waters have a strong scent of strange chemicals, enough that your eyes begin to water as you get close to the shore.

[retired]

Dromer doesn't flip his hair away from his face.

Ratfolk Iron Priest of Brigh | HP 9/9 | AC 16 | Touch 12 | FF 15 | Fort +3 | Ref +1 | Will +5 | Percption +1 | Scent | Darkvision | Channel Energy 5/5

Iantha thanks Val numerous times for the food, while building herself a tripple layered sandwich.
Still eating while walking, once the party arrives at the pond, she quickly swallows the last of the bread.

"Pfew what a smell!"
Eyes watering she covers her nose. Looking dejected at the lack of vegetation she exclaims, "Not the kind of place I would like to go skinny dipping."

HP 16/16 AC 14* T 12 F 12* | F +2 R +2 W +3 (+2 emotion & fear); (+4 vs. mind-affecting, paralysis, poison, & stun) | Init +2 | Perception +2 (Darkvision 60 & lowlight)

Smith, seemingly unaffected by the chemical scent merely states "I believe we have arrived." and without delay with step into the pond.

[retired]

Yeah... Him going in first doesn't make *me* feel any safer...

Dromer gives the shoreline a cursory scan.

"Maybe we should look for the entrance first? Or are we just going to swim around until we find it?"

"Well put, Dromer. I will try to detect any magical auras that may lead us in the right direction. Otherwise, we will just have to search."

Miranda casts detect magic and stares down into the water.

Male Dwarf Paladin (Stonelord) 1

Looking at the dark, foul stinking water, Hroren resists the urge to gulp.

"Yes, we should definitely use some... caution before setting off under the water. Yes, that seems prudent." A cool sweat is apparent on the aged dwarf's brow. "And besides, the Master Of Ways does remind us that waiting 40 minutes after eating is most prudent for optimal swimming."

Seeing Smith simply walk forward into the water however, Hroren sighs and starts to stiffly march into the pond.

[retired]

Dromer whispers to the Ratfolk, "Can Dwarves even swim?"

Ratfolk Iron Priest of Brigh | HP 9/9 | AC 16 | Touch 12 | FF 15 | Fort +3 | Ref +1 | Will +5 | Percption +1 | Scent | Darkvision | Channel Energy 5/5

Iantha looks sceptical and whispers back, "Well, I think they can but they are just to stubborn to actually do it."

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Perception(listen for banter): 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5

The water was already up to his ears...

Female half-elf "paladin" of Desna 1 | HP 13/18 | AC 17 | Fort +5, Ref +7, Will +5 | Focus points 0/1 | Perception +1 | Hero points: 2

"Hush now, child. You don't want to offend our dwarven ally. Anyone can swim if they wish to."

Miranda steps into the water but still tries to see any magical auras under the water before she submurges herself.

[retired]

Once Dromer locates an apparent entry point, or at the least doesn't see anything dangerous, he'll enter the water as well.

Instinctively, Dromer holds his breath, despite already being under the effects of the spell from earlier.

Ratfolk Iron Priest of Brigh | HP 9/9 | AC 16 | Touch 12 | FF 15 | Fort +3 | Ref +1 | Will +5 | Percption +1 | Scent | Darkvision | Channel Energy 5/5

Looking weirdly at how everyone steps just into the water with their clothes on, Iantha strips naked, stuffing everything in her backpack as good as she can manage.

Naked, the ratfolk looks a lot like her four legged bretheren. Fully covered in fur, there isnt really anything that would indicate gender.

Slinging her pack on her back and nose wrinkled, Iantha enters the water and takes off paddeling.

I'll need Fort saves from everyone

Miranda is unable to pick up any traces of magic, and the surface is too dark to see through. As you go below, you can see a hint of light coming through the northern floor of the pond.

Edit: for consistency, going forward, I'll always roll for Dromer first and Crusty second, when both are subject to a save at the same time.

Edit#2: same for skill checks, like Perception and Knowledge (after Crusty gets the ability to speak with master, aka when Dromer starts "hearing voices" in his head).

Other than the light coming from the northeastern section of the floor, you don't see anything. Not because the water is murky, simply because this seems to be an otherwise normal pond - which is likely why no one found the secret entrance until recently. Well, that and the water.

None of you feel good swimming in this filth, but Iantha in particular feels almost sick to the stomach.

Male Dwarf Paladin (Stonelord) 1

His armour sinking him to the bottom of the pond, Hroren makes slow and steady footsteps towards the light in the northeast. He finds himself unconsciously holding his breathe.

Ratfolk Iron Priest of Brigh | HP 9/9 | AC 16 | Touch 12 | FF 15 | Fort +3 | Ref +1 | Will +5 | Percption +1 | Scent | Darkvision | Channel Energy 5/5

It takes Iantha a moment to overcome her aversion of the water, then she breathes easy, knowing Brigh protects her.

With a steady paddle, she moves towards the light, not wanting to spend a second longer in the chemicals then she has to.

Female half-elf "paladin" of Desna 1 | HP 13/18 | AC 17 | Fort +5, Ref +7, Will +5 | Focus points 0/1 | Perception +1 | Hero points: 2

Miranda finally enters the water completely, not excited about the prospect.
Fort: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (7) + 0 = 7

She then follows her allies.

Dromer brushes his hair away from his face. Repeatedly.

As you approach the light, you see that it's coming from the secret passage you've heard about. Only about 40 feet long and 5 feet wide most of the way, you easily make your way through and surface at the other end.

Miranda and Iantha, you are sickened.

Dampness hangs in the air of this cave, condensing into heavy
moisture on the slick, stone walls. The calm, dark waters wind
around to the east up north, along a stony, soot-scarred beach.
A five-foot-high ledge sporting several stalagmites rises to the
east, beyond which a low-ceilinged cave beckons.

As you surface, you find three florescent orange beetles, digging through piles of ash against the far wall.

Smith's skin will harden at the sight of possible danger as he looks to his companions for guidance.

Knowledge (nature): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11

Dromer reacts quickly, drawing his Greatsword.

"Beetles! Watch out. They're a common nuisance underground, though I don't know much about this species..."

He steps 5 feet closer, in front of Iantha.

Crusty won't be acting in Initiative until level 3 at the earliest (and probably not even then). It'll just stay attached. Dromer's not entirely aware that it's really another creature, yet. He just knows that sometimes his "body" has a mind of its own.

Female half-elf "paladin" of Desna 1 | HP 13/18 | AC 17 | Fort +5, Ref +7, Will +5 | Focus points 0/1 | Perception +1 | Hero points: 2

Miranda does not have any offensive spells prepared that will affect the bugs, so she will hold her action.

We rolled the same total, too!

Dromer looks a little shaken as the giant hammer comes down near his ankle.

"Uh... Miranda... You can talk to them or something, right...?"

Female half-elf "paladin" of Desna 1 | HP 13/18 | AC 17 | Fort +5, Ref +7, Will +5 | Focus points 0/1 | Perception +1 | Hero points: 2

Miranda gives Dromer a long, blank look. "No...?"

She pulls out a dagger and throws it at the (orange) bug.
