With the unexpected god hit on the zombie it's head is removed from it's shoulders leaving only one zombie left standing. Which continues to swing at Jack.
Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
Damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
SNAKEEYES! well that's kinda impressive
The combined assault of the party quickly dispatches the last zombie after it's last attempt to hurt Jack.

Jesper Roland Sørensen |
"Two of the zombies an older man and woman wears what appears to be signet rings with a design kinda like Rexus'. And since these are very charred perhaps they died on the night of ashes." Jack remarks for the party.
Jack Duncloak |
Jack carefully (and a bit distastefully) removes the rings from the dead couple, intending to return them to Rexus. "It may break his heart further, or...it may bring a measure of closure. Still, I think he deserves the truth."
Once that's done, Jack will lead the party to the room to the left of the "E18" label on the map and look around.
Perception: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (14) + 11 = 25 (+2 vs. humans)
Jesper Roland Sørensen |
The room Jack looks at is part of the room they already in, it appeares some of the zombies you fought came from in here. Nothing much of value to find here.
On the other side Jack and Canacha can see into a room with some lights on and the sound of someone rifling through books and documents. You can't see anybody from this angle.
Jack Duncloak |
When he hears someone in the next hall, Jack raises his index finger to his lips to warn the others to be silent. Then he points to the next room and raises his longsword, indicating that the party should prepare for battle. Then he pads toward the entrance....
Stealth: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (14) + 15 = 29
Micheria "Mic' Musca |
Mic holds back a bit with Lena knowing there is little point in her attempting to sneak.
Jesper Roland Sørensen |
Sorry the delay, was to busy last night with raiding in wow to notice Jack moved closer to the next room :)
This room’s shelves and displays seem more akin to those one would find in a storefront than a museum. While the shelves are relatively empty, what rubbish remains on them further supports the conclusion that this was once some sort of shop. Four long tables in the middle of the room seem to have seen more recent use, their surfaces cluttered with papers and objects.
Jack can see four monkish types rifling through the books, once in a while the rip out a page to splash it with ink or simply crumble in together in a big pile.
None of them seems to have noticed Jack yet, the one just inside the door is busy looking at the table in front of him while the others are to far away to notice him on the edge of the torches.
Jack Duncloak |
Jack has enough experience with House Thrune's policies to know a redactor when he sees one. He charges the nearest man, hacking with his longsword, trusting Canacha to wave the others forward.
longsword (human?, charge): 1d20 + 6 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 6 + 2 + 2 = 29 for slashing damage: 1d8 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 + 2 = 11 (assuming the monks are human)
longsword (Confirm vs. human, charge): 1d20 + 6 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 6 + 2 + 2 = 19 for slashing damage: 1d8 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 + 2 = 12
-2 to AC until the start of my next turn...as Jack is stunned that he both hit his target AND inflicted heavy damage!
Jesper Roland Sørensen |
As jack announces his pressence the redactor turns to face him but before he can even get his fists up, Jack runs him through only able to scream a warning as the blade pierces him.
The other three quickly convenes on Jack's location andtwo of them strike out at him with thier fists.
Attack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
Attack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13
Combat Round 1
Jack, Canacha, Lena, Meliora, Micheria
Redactors
Canacha Bais |
She took a few more steps to the side after watching Lena pass by. They were surrounding Jack and that didnt seem very good at all.
"Jack! You hit someone again you really are getting better!"
She called out as she Nonchelauntly took aim at the person on his left.
deadly point blank focused aim shot red: 1d20 + 8 - 1 ⇒ (3) + 8 - 1 = 10
damage: 1d8 + 1 + 2 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 1 + 2 + 3 = 14
She made a slight face as her shot went wide... of course her shot went wide she had been too busy praising Jack to really aim properly.
Micheria "Mic' Musca |
"What in the bloody hells is going on!"
Mic rushes in and attempts to kick out the knee of the blue monk with one hard blow.
Unarmed Power Attack: 1d20 + 7 - 1 ⇒ (3) + 7 - 1 = 9 fudge!
Damage: 1d6 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 3 + 2 = 10
Jack Duncloak |
"Thrune redactors!" Jack growls to Mic while taking a hack at one of the monks now flanking him (blue).
I'm assuming those partially-occupied squares can't be moved into, but if they CAN, Jack will take a 5-foot-step to the square just left of Red.
longsword (human): 1d20 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 6 + 2 = 19 for slashing damage: 1d8 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 + 2 = 10
Jesper Roland Sørensen |
You would be right Jack they are tabels you'd had to jump up on if you wanted to use that square.
Of the assault the redactors are facing only Jack seems to be able to hit anything this time around. But he hits one of them rather hard making him rather bloodied.
Combat Round 1
Jack, Canacha, Lena, Meliora, Micheria
Redactors blue (10), red, yellow,
Jesper Roland Sørensen |
Meliora delays her turn saving her spells for more serious encounters, seeing as these seems to be handled well by the others.
The redactors assault Jack and Lena with a flurry of fists and kicks.
Attack Jack: 4d20 + 1 ⇒ (20, 15, 19, 8) + 1 = 63 1 crit and 1 hit
Confirm Jack: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 1 = 21
Damage x 3: 2d6 + 4 + 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (2, 2) + 4 + (4) + 2 = 14
Attack Lena: 2d20 + 1 ⇒ (16, 11) + 1 = 281 hit
Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
Combat Round 2
Jack, Canacha, Lena, Meliora (D), Micheria
Redactors blue (10), red, yellow,
Jack Duncloak |
Jack takes a pretty serious pummeling--especially when added on top of the smack to the face he received from the zombies. Though it might be a better tactical move to try to finish off the fellow he wounded last round, the anger and need for vengeance against those who just knocked him around proves too great. Leaving the wounded one for Lena to smite, Jack hacks at the fellow to the northeast (Red), figuring he and Mic can take him out quick.
longsword (vs. human): 1d20 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 6 + 2 = 16 for slashing damage: 1d8 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 + 2 = 6
Micheria "Mic' Musca |
Mic looks at the monk and a hint of a smile crosses her face and she speaks to the red monk as she attacks with knee and elbow.
"I am a bit of a fist fighter as well my new friend. Lets see who is better."
Flurry 1: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22
Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
Flurry 2: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24
Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
Jesper Roland Sørensen |
The combined assault of Jack and Micheria dispatches the red redactor as he was smiling overly confident untill a sword opened his guts and a kick and an elbow finished him.
Combat Round 2
Jack, Canacha, Lena, Meliora (D), Micheria
Redactors blue (10), yellow,
Lena Silas |
Lena swings her sword at the monk in front of her.
Longsword: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25
Damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
Longsword Confirm: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25
Damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
Jesper Roland Sørensen |
Attacking the already wounded monk Lena quickly decapitates him, leaving the head to roll under one of the tables before the body falls over.
Canacha Bais |
With a scowl she began reloading her pistol only pausing to bark out a quick laugh when Lena decapitated one of them.
"Thats one way to get ahead of the problem at hand...Jack can you get a hand?"
She asked as she carefully took aim this time. Movement by her friends made her aim veer high.
point blank shot: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11
damage: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Jesper Roland Sørensen |
The last redactor is clearly not afraid of the party, and keeps on trying to beat on poor Jack.
Attack flurry: 2d20 + 1 ⇒ (3, 2) + 1 = 6
Seems he is more scared then he is showing.
Combat Round 3
Jack, Canacha, Lena, Meliora (D), Micheria
Redactor
Micheria "Mic' Musca |
Mic steps one step further into the room and swings with a powerful backhand at the remaining monk.
Unarmed Power Attack: 1d20 + 7 - 1 ⇒ (14) + 7 - 1 = 20
Damage: 1d6 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 3 + 2 = 6
Jack Duncloak |
Jack takes another slash at the last redactor. It's finally beginning to look like all his previous talk of having training with a sword may not have been a total lie after all!
longsword (vs. human): 1d20 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 6 + 2 = 24 for slashing damage: 1d8 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 + 2 = 8
Jack Duncloak |
Jack briefly considers taking some sort of victory pose but decides that's a waste of his time. Instead, he moves deeper into the room, peering around for anything unusual or threatening.
Perception Check: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (15) + 11 = 26 (+2 vs. humans)
Jesper Roland Sørensen |
Noticing the room is safe Jack searches it for about 10 minutes searching the different tables. He gathers enough components to create two spell pouches, as well as a bottle of lead-based ink worth 50 gp, five miniature ivory doors worth 5 gp each, a roll of copper wire worth 25 gp, 50 gp worth of silver dust, and 100 gp worth of diamond dust.
Jack Duncloak |
"Jack needs healing!" the street ranger admits sheepishly, raising a hand. "Between the zombies and redactors, I've taken a pretty good beating."
Jack's currently at 8/31 hps.
Canacha Bais |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
"Yeah! He does look a little beat up and puffy. I bet you have been working so hard on your sword play that you forgot to practice ducking."
She giggled and shot Jack a wink. Turning to the north and looking at the double doors she moved closer Giving everything a once over looking for obvious traps before she tested the knobs.
Jack could get some healing into him.. she would get the doors open to the unchecked room.
perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (5) + 8 = 13 Add +1 if there are traps
disable device: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (19) + 9 = 28
Jesper Roland Sørensen |
Overturned desks and scattered paperwork cover the floor of this large workroom; doors hang open on the walls to the southeast and northeast to reveal empty offices, each containing a number of bedrolls and supplies.
A large workroom, three small offices, and a storage room composed the entirety of the administrative space (and occasionally living space) for the Fantasmagorium’s staff many years ago.
A lone Asmodean stands in the room. "Ah intruders, I was beginning to think all the defenses would get the better of you before I could get the chance to get back into the temples good graces." He says snap closes a book he was reading and draws a heavy mace to attack.
Initiative Jack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10
Initiative Lena: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
Initiative Meliora: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (3) + 13 = 16
Initiative Micheria: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
Initiative Canacha: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7
Initiative: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9
Round 1
(Meliora), Jack
Asmodean
Micheria, Canacha, Lena
Jack Duncloak |
After thanking Lena, Jack took a moment to stick out his tongue while Canacha was examining the next door and couldn't see him. Once the door was opened and the Asmodean discovered, Jack quips, "Defenses are overrated!" through a still-split lip before taking a hack at the man.
longsword (vs. human): 1d20 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 6 + 2 = 21 for slashing damage: 1d8 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 + 2 = 9 (assuming this guy's human)
I assume we were all gathered near the doors.
Micheria "Mic' Musca |
Wow a busy day at work and you miss a lot. Pretty banged up but Mic is not one to complain.
Jesper Roland Sørensen |
Oh yeah that's fine, I was thinking of moving you there just forgot it.
As Jack gets closer he can see there is actually two asmodean standing on top of each other.
1 is good for Jack: 1d2 ⇒ 1
Jack's sword connects with something physical and the priest makes an annoyed face. He takes a 5ft step back "You will all bow down before Asmodeus." He responds to Jack lifting his unholy symbol into the air uttering a spell.
Jack will: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
Jack gets a sudden urge to bow down before the priest's Command, effectively making him prone.
Round finish 1 first, then start round 2
(Meliora), Jack
Asmodean
Micheria, Canacha, Lena
Lena Silas |
Lena trundles into the battle morning star at the ready. Casting a Blessing on her weapon to harm evil more. "No I don't think we'll be bowing down to Asmodeus. Thanks anyway."
Micheria "Mic' Musca |
Mic hustles into the room, around the edge to get behind their new antagonist.
"Yes, we have head it all before. Bow down bow down. How about we bow you down instead sunshine?"
Once she makes her way around she lets lose a stiff kick aimed for the knees.
Unarmed Power Attack: 1d20 + 7 - 1 ⇒ (17) + 7 - 1 = 23 Not sure if I get flanking.
Damage: 1d6 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 3 + 2 = 6
Jesper Roland Sørensen |
Mic I don't see you having the movement to get into that position. I count it as you move 40ft. Around the tables or straight over them it's diffecult.
Micheria "Mic' Musca |
Thught it was exactly 30 but I just double checked and got 35. So no attack eitehr way I guess. Thats what I get for a morning post.
Jesper Roland Sørensen |
It's fine I just wanted to make sure I didn't anything special you had. Once Canacha and Jack acts we'll see what he does. Jack is prone and can act noramally, but can't stand up before his next turn.
Jack Duncloak |
"Nice trick!" Jack growls from his bowing position. Raising both his buckler and longsword between himself and the Asmodean, the young man snarls, "Got a version that affects all of us at the same time? If not...prepare to get your arse whooped!"
Total defense (+4 dodge bonus to AC for 1 round--AC 21, touch 17), then stand back up, provoking an AoO.
Meliora Castafiore |
2 people marked this as a favorite. |
"Even if he has one we're going to whoop his arse." Meliora interjects, contributing to the fight in her favorite way by pointing at the Asmo and firing off a Ray of Frost.
"Which is a pity, since anyone in the bad graces of the Asmodean church is usually good by me, but if you're trying so hard to get back in their good graces... well, you're probably just a waste of space that nobody's going to miss anyways."
Ray of frost: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 13
damage?: 1d3 ⇒ 1
