Thanks for the info. I'll make myself familiar with the Race Builder. I might even ask Rules Questions or Advice. I bet some people would love to build the One Ring. :)

I don't have Hero Lab and I'm lost on how to properly make a stat block for my Hungry Ghost. Can anyone assist me with that?

Quote:
LIST up to 2-3 CR 1, CR 2, AND CR 3 creatures you'd enjoy playing, and optionally -- give me a sentence or two on why you picked these.

CR 1

Festrog
Kreshar
Fast Zombie Wolf

My reasonings for wanting these monsters is that they have undead traits (fitting for a ghost), they're violent, and they're physical. My character longs for the splash of spilled blood on his face once again - if anyone plays warhammer, I'm going to be basically playing a follower of Khorne personality-wise.

"Lo, upon this world I am birthed; and there will be such a bloodletting among the mortal world that all will sup on ashes and death, and be cast into eternity's embrace like so much dust."

CR 2
Morlock
A Tatzylwyrm
a Blink Dog

CR 3
An Ogre (obviously)
An Ankheg bug
A dire ape
A Yeth hound
An advanced undead megaraptor
(lots of choices from CR3)

I was thinking that story-wise, I'd modify my "ancient general" story like this:

General Tsao was a vicious warlord in life, a man who rose through the ranks of his nation's armies through savagery and skill in arms. He rejected taking prisoners, and refused honorable duels unless they were to the death. His first kill came at the tender age of 12, and he developed an addiction for it, needing to feel the hot blood spill over his fingers as they grip the haft of his weapon.

He cut a bloody swath through every country in his campaign, laying low emperors and kings - but he was betrayed. After years of bloody campaigning, his lieutenants - spineless wretches that they are - lost their taste for conquering and conspired against him. At night, they crept into his command tent and stabbed him over and over until he was dead. However, his story was only beginning.

His restless spirit caught the attention of something far older and more hideous than anything that has ever existed on this side of the Dark Tapestry's veil. The spirit was of like mind to Tsao - a malignant force in the universe that fed on violent death. Tsao was a perfect candidate to spread his bloody gospel to the Material Plane. His spirit was lured across the Dark Tapestry through vile magics, and he was transformed into a hijacker spirit. With new abilities used to influence the minds of the violent, Tsao was sent back home. Centuries have passed since Tsao's death - time flows differently beyond the Veil - but Tsao will make them remember when his armies owned land across the entire continent.

Choon, your character has been crunched in HeroLab. It's been PM'ed to you. I'll be working on Kana's Shadow or Whack's worm next.

The game STARTS when 4 people's characters are done.

UFS -- I am quite familiar with warhammer fluff, and I love the idea of a Khorne-ate analog -- your concept is tight.

I'd offer to help cool your stat-block, but I've got my hands FULL converting the existing info I've got into Hero-Lab. Maybe Choon would be willing to help you cook your stat-block (PM back and forth) because his initial offering, while not perfect when I meshed it in Herolab, was close enough so that I was quite impressed.

The race build in Herolab I am using is basically 20 RP with +2 for Sunlight Powerlessness. If you can give me a stat block, a general idea of what kind of powers you want to have, and how you want your character to play, I can get a lot done for you. Hit me back.

I've done some messing around with the race builder, and I think I have something I like. Would it be acceptable to spend the race points on a spell-like ability, lesser that I trade out for the Telepathy and/or Suggestion feature I talked about before?

I have a rough build from the advanced race guide. I think the build works well for the concept. I haven't done much with skills yet, though I have a general idea. Itzal has lots of plans for causing chaos and mayhem.

I'll get working on the skills for Itzal, and deal with those trait and the feat choice for him. Do you want me to PM you or post the possible build race wise for him? Or would you rather I work on stat-blocking him out first?

Sczarni

Still here, just not posting much on account of school, church, and whack proposing to me.

Ya, fair warning: Whack and Kitsune are gonna get hitched. I found out through another campaign in which we three are all involved. :D

Awe, congrats you two!

Not gonna be happening until beginning of January, so there's still plenty of time to possess monsters and whatnot. ;-)

Sczarni

Yep yep. :) Thanks Kana, and Choon/Cuddles!

Scarab Sages

Speaking of possessions, Abrasax is coming along nicely. Just a couple things to agree on. I share Vicon's hopes for a start relatively soon.

Scarab Sages

Note to Vicon: On that last skill list I sent, I forgot to add +2 on my Know:arcane from Breadth of Experience (/knowledge. Pfsrd says Experience, but they have to change copyright names. Same effect, different name)

is this still open for N00bs?

Cuz I would totally rock at starting as a Jinkin :)

its a gremlin race

I would use wits traps and items to befuddle my larger foes :)

Scarab Sages

All player races are unique and fully home-brew body hijackers. We could be a Jinkin one day and a Ogre the next.

Vicon, we might want to type up a summary of what this is about. Four pages might be a little much to assume people are reading. :P

Scarab Sages

You may want to skim the thread, man. Especially the last couple pages. This isn't your average game.

Jinkin is my first incarnation... CR 1

as I get more powerful I become bigger and badder creatures... I understand that... I just wanted to know if recruitment was still open

Scarab Sages

As far as I know, yes. :)

Great! can I get a condensed form of what I need to know from the 4 pages of recruitment to give me the tools I need to build my incarnation #1

:D

PM me everything you've got, I'll crunch it, and we'll negotiate any ambiguity before posting it to the thread.

If you have an idea you're not sure how to execute, (spell like ability for something else) -- just try to make it as clear and succinct as possible what you're shooting for and I'll try to fix it up. Choon didn't get everything he wanted for CR 1, but I think he's reasonably satisfied with the results. The PM'ing is good because this thread has ambled along long enough with hypothesis, it will soon be time to actually game for a change!

Do all of the PC's have to be the same type of bodysnatcher?

Because I thought of starting as a tiny tiny insect that climbs inside of bodies to control them...

As it gets more powerful it bursts out of the body (after eating the innards...) like a chestburster and scuttles to a new host to repeat the process...

I realize scrolling 4 pages for an abstract of what you'd need to start playing is a tall order, but If you are considering jumping in, here's a thumbnail sketch to consider, though we may already be at capacity at least to start if the 4-6 people already spitballing actually get their characters straight.

1) Closer to the start of the thread is a list of "Hijacker concepts" -- from spirits, to "Things" to "bugs" to "germs" -- these are the basic ideas behind hijacking monsters, the custom races that are basically the protagonists of the game. Once you've looked at that, think of a concept for your character and share it. If GM (me) and other players take a shine to it...

2) come up with a 15 point buy stat block for your hijacker. It should have at least one or two serious dump stats (look for examples, you are basically trying to buy a critter with very high prime attributes in trade for one or two stats with 3 or 4 in them. Hijacker critters are supposed to have serious weaknesses, and a good rule of thumb should be (if I have a host I am strong, if I am without a host I am in trouble, should hide, or should run.)

3) after your stat block, you need a 22 point race build via advanced races guide, 1 feat, and two traits. I'd let you know what other blanks if any needed to be filled.

That would basically enable you to jump in. That said, I'm calling a small red flag on dropping in and asking for an abstract in a one-line post without so much as an introduction, with the assumption you'd just be playing... If you look at the absurd level of care and patience exhibited by the rest of us in the thread, and the sheer volume of crap we've been skimming/reading/posting just to get to this point -- You may want to think long and hard about what you're getting into. :D

So um... yeah Death_Keeper, Hi.

DK, one of the craziest things about this thing is it seems almost if not everyone is going to be radically different creatures. That said, there is already a worm creature concept (whack-a-rouge's, I'm cooking RIGHT NOW) that crawls into people's ears. Tiny insect/chestburster is a concept that would fit in well, potentially. If you like, go ahead and start cooking a concept, but I warn in advance until I get the present character concepts fleshed out I can't be sure if we'd already be at capacity.

Grateful you think it's a cool idea and are interested.

Okay a little about me, hi I'm death keeper, I play in Lynora's Avalon Academy, a sixteen level rules light Gestalt game where everyone is more or less hormonal. Teenagers with no self control.

That game has 15-20 players and 1-200 posts per day.I enjoy stealth and complex thinking, as well as tactics.

:)

Sorry about presumption I'll have what you asked for tomorrow or the next day.

How's it looking so far, GM? I'm guessing there'll be a bit of PMing back and forth to hash out everything. I'm heading to bed soon, then heading to work, but I'll be back online no later than 3pm EST tomorrow. Really excited! :-)

KatsuneSage wrote:

YAY! Hope you said yes -- he's a friggin' genius, but every good man needs a strong woman to be his equal.

Don't stress Katsune, you've given a LOT of information, and when I am done with Whack's character I'll either be doing yours third, or fourth. There is a part of me that wants to do it later rather than sooner so I have learned from the previous concepts how to better balance/frame your concept mechanically. I'd like it to be as close to what you envision without being a 40 RP build relative to the 22 everyone is supposed to get. :D

As somebody who has had a fairytale wedding (Shelter Island, Hamptons NY) -- I give you THIS advice if you're really getting married... START A REGISTRY NOW. After the party is over and all that madness is behind you, the one thing that is going to stick around is the super spiffy presents, if any, you are able to get in the bargain. Even more than pot-latching (easy come easy go) -- having some great kitchenware, appliances, a soda-stream, toys like that will IMPROVE YOUR QUALITY OF LIFE. Congrats.

Being Pacific means my late night is after most other folks have went to bed, but your Kit will be done in an hour or two tops I suspect. You'll get a PM, no rush to get RIGHT back to me, if it would interfere with your sleep process. :D

SERIOUSLY!? Y'ALL GETTING MARRIED IN JANUARY?! LIKE IN THAT SONG!?!?!

THAT'S SO FRIGGIN' ROMANTIC I COULD JUST DIE. You are offically distracting me from Crunching stats, sir... So I'm just going to post the link to the song here, and get back to it. :P

She didn't say Yes. Exact words were, "duh!" Registry's been done, invitations have been sent, etc. We're SUPER EXCITED!!!

About the character crunch bits, no need to hurry. I can't wait to get started, but a campaign this off-the-beaten-path shouldn't be rushed. We want to do this right. :-)

EDIT: Nether one of us was familiar with the song, but it made us smile. Thanks for that. :-)

I'll read through the whole thing tomorrow as well.... I couldn't tonight because I was at work :D

EEEK!

Important for everyone to note - Hijacking ability I am costs at "Greater Shapeshifting" in the ARG -- that costs 6 RP... so account for that. I think everyone can agree that the hijacking ability is a STEAL at 6 RP. That should hopefully mollify any aches one might have for not getting everything they want in a build.

Kana, I'll get back to you very soon, I'll see if we can negotiate the cost of hijacking in your build, but you did GREAT doing so much so quickly to get on even keel.

Good to know. I have an idea or two we can discuss that will hopefully allow for that? I'll await your response and we can see what we can do.

I'm in CST btw.

Whack's kit was Crunched in herolab. He undershot his point buy, AND race points. Because he was more conservative than over-reaching with his build, I tried extra hard to make what he DID want work... even going as far as to price Diminutive size and ability, which is NOT on-board in hero-lab. :D

Hit me back when you can fill in all those blanks, WAR. -- PM me, and hopefully when we have a prototype (not draft) when approved you can post THAT in the thread.

I'll be Doing Kana next, and not just because I like his shadow concept. It should be very cool fleshing him out -- if you CAN, please share your "idea or two" if you have not already PMed it before I do the crunching. It's a labor of love, but it's time consuming and I'd prefer having everything I can to work with before hitting the pavement running.

See in Darkness is definitely an ability you can have, and while it might cost you an Extra RP, I'd also consider giving you longer than normal darkvision than 60 ft. I'll PM your Crunched-stats assuming I have enough to make a fully fleshed out character, then ask for you to fill in blanks.

Final note: PLEASE, once your character concept is finished, if you must compare/contrast your characters -- don't do it with the expectation that unless a discrepancy is particularly egregious, that there is grounds for modification. I endeavor always to fall on the generous size of calculations, and I've given everything quite a bit of thought. The only time you should be looking in another players bowl is to make sure they have enough. :D

ON FILLING IN BLANKS: For people not sure how to pick their skills, start with preferred class skills for the class you think your character would mostly likely play like.

PICK LANGUAGES. You start with "Zalgan" free (a language of the dark tapestry to talk to each other) -- the rest are pretty free choices, but you should think about underdark languages as much if not more than regular languages.

Choon wrote:

When you are done will all revisions either PM to discuss with me, or if you think you're DONE, post your build as a model/example to people who are still cooking. That will speed things up.

UFS : I hope you've been able to get help forming your stat block! I'd help, but I'm already up to my eyeballs getting fully formed concepts fleshed out, and it's time consuming! If you're really stuck, ask elsewhere in the forums or try and get help here... Choon and Whack's concepts were pretty well formed.

Okay, I've read up on everything, and we have:

Floating head Creator
Yeerk
Possessing shadow
Warlord dominating spirit

[Disclaimer]starting idea only[/disclaimer]

This tiny spider is immensely strong for its size but not as fast or intellectual as the brethren it had in the Tapestry, but it developed its own method for capturing prey... its brethren used nets of psychic energy to ensnare its preys mind... it burrows into the flesh of its host, and unfolds a diaphanous net of nerves, tying itself to the neural system... draining the hosts will and mind while removing the unnecessary systems of the body, its body becomes a second heart and brain, causing faster bloodflow... empowering the host with greater strength and speed...
The muscles of the body will eventually shatter the bones of the host... but Ckkxxchtki does not care... it will find another...
Stats: high strength and dex, average intelligence and wisdom, low charisma and constitution

This creature uses force to dominate its host, it doesn't persuade or make deals. It takes what it wants. It is fragile but has physical defenses (exoskeleton and spines) as well as jaws. But it prefers a host... a host is a home... food... it will grow larger...

I'm pretty sure you're missing one or two potential party members -- I do believe there is a construct swarm and a sentient gem you might have missed. (Choon and Katsune) -- how'd you miss them?! :D

I like the concept (has face-hugger and chest-burster tropes in it) and the name is right in line with what I'd hope for a bug. Feel free to flesh out the idea, we'll see where it goes!

Sorry for forgetting you guys :(

Will try to get filled out sometime between now and 3

Okay, I have the idea down on paper, but I want some feedback from the other players

I probably bought some unnecessary things in the race build... like size and race.... but here goes

Looks like a decent start. Just two notes right off:

- Hijacking itself was stated at 6rp, if I remember right. That's your key ability. :)

- What do you envision this guy's weakness is outside a host? Right now he's sitting at an AC near 20 with nearly +20 to his stealth (after a rank is spent) and +3hp/cr with his con. That may not be a problem in and of itself. Sneaky gliding stalker of death is great for a physical stat concept. However, before jumping to conclusions, I'd like to hear more about your concept. Why does he want a host? Is food his only motivation?

okay, in order weaknesses outside of host:

A 20 Ac is good for him because he lacks finesse, he has to physically get up to the creature first. a lucky spot roll will put an end to that, but luck isnt the only thing... after his host dies, he has no chance to hide, he is spotted and has hardly any 'real' defenses: a poisonous bite a few times per day...

he has no real capability for the complex plans you guys will be able to come up with, because he has no Wisdom score to brag about. he has no negotiation capability, so if things go south... he is splat.

his hosts will be much less charismatic, because he is very uncharismatic and that will pass on to the host, also the host will have huge bulging veins and muscles, so it isnt likely (with soft skinned races) that his invasion of the body will go unnoticed

his will save is a joke, so mental assaults are almost a guarantee for a hit, and depending on the spell he only has a slight chance he can pass it on to the host instead.

as he grows in CR: he gets bigger... losing the diminutive size and attendent bonuses in favor of things like Web or higher natural armor, so I have a concept of something that starts out as being sneaky glider of death & possession, that grows into something that lies in wait for prey and ends up tearing open their skull and climbing inside...

Also it ties in with the Facehugger, to Chestburster, to Giant Exoskeleton'd creepy thing that lives inside your skin

Evolution at its finest

:D hope this helps

I'm not sure if something changed, but I seem to remember Vicon saying something about no stat above 18. I don't know if that's before or after size modifiers though.

Whack-a-Rogue wrote:

If no stat can be above 18 I will change accordingly :) thank you for bringing this to my attention

Ckkxxchtki would like to inhabit

Gnoll
Goblin
Orc
Giant spider
Lizardfolk

Any of these... they like strength and power, except for the spider.... he just wants to inhabit something similar to himself...

I'll try to cook up a stat block without herolab in the meantime.

I don't have hero lab either, but I use a combination of google docs for easy access both at home and at work. Excel is excellent for getting totals. Also use myth-weavers sheets. They help me double check calculations. If that's any help. I copy it all into a stat block format for putting in an Alias.

Was searching through undead monsters in the SRD and came across this. What do you guys think of modifying the apparition stat block for use as my ghost? How would you recommend I tweak it power-wise?

That's a pretty cool idea... I like it alot :)

Incorporeal fear causer for the ghost of an ancient king...

What do you think bout mine? An insectile possessor :)

I like it, it's actually one of the ideas I considered using myself. :)

I'd actually suggest putting the Ghost template on a Level 1 Warrior. You'd have to nerf it a bit (maybe lose the incorporeal trait, rejuvenation, and the CHA bonus) but could probably get the abilities back as we progress through the campaign. Dump STR and CON and figure out a possession mechanic. You'd get the advantage of making it REALLY easy to level yourself as your CR increases.

Interesting.... what type of insect was yours?

I briefly tossed around tick/spider ideas myself earlier.
