He takes a step forward while drawing whatever energy he can from the atmosphere around him. However, he knows it is not enough for what he intends, and starts drawing from his own life force as well. ★★★OVERSEER ANNOUNCEMENT★★★
As the last orcs perish or flee, the Twinhorns reassemble the caravan and gather the fallen. Night begins to fall, swallowing up the road and leaving the caravan stranded in a pool of torchlight. Medda stands atop the new lead wagon, blood dripping from her breastplate. She holds Ivvora’s hilt aloft and shouts, “Twinhorns! We are only two days from the stone circle and have two days until the winter solstice.” A nimbus of light begins to radiate from the hilt, illuminating the entire valley in bright light. “Abandon the wagons and carry with you what you need to survive. We must reach the circle in time, or darkness will consume us.”
Bodies litter the valley, but fortunately most of them belong to orcs. Even so, the Twinhorns have lost many of their warriors and may not be at their full fighting strength for whatever lies ahead.
@Table GMs: The Bloodied Convoy condition on page 31 is in effect. This concludes Part 1.
GM Granta |
★★★OVERSEER ANNOUNCEMENT★★★
“My Pathfinder allies, thank you for bringing us much needed support,” says Medda, the Twinhorn following’s spiritual leader. She stands beside Anok, her phantom and constant companion. “After the orc ambush sapped our supplies and strength, we pushed north to our winter home. We are only hours away from the stone circle and our encampment—if we are going to make it there by midnight, we need to press on. Once there, we will use Ivvora’s hilt to perform our time-honored ritual and keep evil from our lands.” Medda produces the small hilt of a broken weapon with only a fragment of its black metal blade remaining. “Let us move. There are dangers in these ancient woods: orc raiders, bears that topple trees, and worse. Stay in groups and don’t get lost.”
As the Kellids and Pathfinders reach the top of the hill next to the Twinhorn encampment, they notice splashes of blood and the occasional corpse dotting the landscape. Medda raises her voice, calling, “My brethren, our families are under attack! Secure the camp and drive back any who oppose you. Pathfinder allies, join us in defense of our home!” The landscape opens into a burned hillside where blackened trees stand like lifeless sentinels. A crude blockade shields the entrance to a natural cavern.
@Table GMs: You have 9 days to run encounter H on page 32. If you finish early, you may proceed to encounter I on page 34.
GM Hmm |
The sickly sweet smell of decay hangs in the air. As you stare out into the corpse-dotted landscape, you hear a sound familiar to any Pathfinder that has been to monster-identification classes. There are some human corpses shambling towards you, muttering, “Braiiiiiins!”
Then behind them is something very odd. Thick muscle and jutting bone from multiple corpses fused together form a red winged, humanlike predator. Not yet airborne, it beats its wings with a slow, leathery FLAP, FLAP, FLAP. It moans with a low, “Uhhhhhhhhhh,” as its head turns to face you.

★ ---- ★ ---- ★ ---- ★
A group of Kellid warriors come cautiously out from behind the barricades they were manning. “You were magnificent! We have never seen the like of warriors like you!”
One woman pokes the still smouldering parts of the Necrocraft that Xuan Fung exploded. “What was that flapping, bony thing?”
Skye, Shaman of the Lyrune-Quah |
"Madame, my name is Skye, shaman of the Lyrune-Quah. These are my friends, Corona, Zavubak, Xuan Fung, Ezren, and 575." He shakes the woman's hand as they make their introductions.
"That foul creature was a *scrambler necrocraft*. You seem to have an undead problem. We're here to help." Skye looks around. "Can you point us to the source your affliction?"
GM Hmm |
“Pleased to meet you. I’m Brekkis, or Brek for short.” the woman nods.
“A scrambler necrocraft?” The warrior woman lifts up a bit of wing flap and studies it. “Nasty, is what it was. Flew. Tore several of our warriors to pieces before we took cover.” Then she turns back to Skye and sighs. “You’re right that we have an undead problem. But we have other problems, too. The convoy got pretty bloodied as we moved north, and some of the leaders of the Following are even questioning whether we all should keep following Ivvora’s path, and hold on to these ancestral lands, or move on to gentler and maybe safer places.”
She gives the party a canny look. ”But maybe you lot could talk some sense in ‘em, and give them the courage to stay and continue. I figure if'n you can blast monstrosities outta the sky, you likely can influence the leaders better than a nobody like me.”
GM Hmm |

Brek snorts at 575’s haiku. “You can only try.” She leads you to the a large command tent, then bows and takes her leave. “Good luck with ‘em. Some of ‘em have awfully thick heads.”
★ ---- ★ ---- ★ ---- ★
The thick hide walls of the large tent muffle the sounds from outside. Iron spikes pin down an enormous map in the center of the tent. Wooden carvings of warriors and monsters lie strewn about the map, marking the location of fighting warriors and the encroaching undead.
As you enter, you hear Medda’s voice. “You’re asking us to leave behind everything we know and care about!”
“Indeed,” rumbles Anok the phantom’s deep and booming voice, “You would have us abandon our sacred pledge to Ivvora.”
“Aye, I’d have us abandon this lunacy!” Another man proclaims as you enter. He is a towering man, broad-shouldered and sturdily built, wearing the cloak of dire polar bear. Covered in scars and with a proud bearing, his presence fills this tent as he paces back and forth. “Surely we can find better winter hunting grounds, where we don’t have to compete for game with bloodthirsty orcs and cursed undead! As for leaving behind what we care about... What I care about is my warriors, many of whom we’ve left behind on this battlefield!”
“Who are we as a people if we abandon our oaths? I demand,” declares Medda, “that we stay and fight for our homes and our traditions!”
In addition to Medda, Anok the phantom, and the towering man, there is a fourth person in this room. An old woman with plenty of scars of her own, is calmly listening to the arguments while she fletches arrows. She has to bring the arrows close to her face as she fletches, but her ears are turned towards the conversation. With tanned and wrinkled skin, white hair cut short, and a weathered longbow by her side, there is an intense focus about the old woman, and the other three leaders keep darting glances her way, as if waiting for her to weigh in.
Then the old woman looks up with clouded eyes at the tent flap opening where you are gathered. Squinting at the sun in her face, she asks with a quavering voice, “Are you the warriors that Medda told us about? If so, I am pleased to meet you, and hear your wisdom. I am Jala the Patient. This bear in human form is Kragr Bloodhand. You already know Medda and Anok.” She pauses, grabbing a drink from a leather water skin and licking her lips. “Speak. We are at a decision point.”
GM Hmm |
Now you have an opportunity to influence the three Leaders of the Following (Medda, Kraugr, Jala) to stay and help the fight. Even Medda needs convincing, for the arguments of others have started to wear upon her.
THE RULES
There will be three rounds where you can each try to influence one of the members, or discover information about them that might be helpful you figure out how to influence them best. Each round you may make a single skill check to 1) influence, 2) discover or 3) aid another to someone else’s roll.
You may always take ten if you wish. If you have an oddball profession or craft that you think might also be applicable, ask... I am always willing to consider rarely used skills used creatively. I will also reward great roleplay here!
Each of the Leaders: Medda, Kraugr and Jala certain number of checks to be convinced to stay. The number of checks needed for each one of the leaders varies.

Ooo.. sense motive, my shiny signature skill for the scenario!
575 watches the kellid leaders, trying to learn what he can of their motivations from their outward cues. Hoping to glean something that will help his companions know what to say.
Going to assume Medda will be easiest, so will start on one of the others... lets go with Jala.
Round 1: Sense Motive on Jala to Discover: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 20
GM Hmm |
Congratulations, you made a discovery!
As 575 studies Jala the Patient, he learns many things about her. Her strong form, even in age, and her care for her weapons tell him that this was once a woman whose hunting skills were renowned. Her quiet manner tells him that this is not someone who jumps to decisions, but instead likes to think through both sides of an argument.
575 judges that Jala would be more prefer reasoned arguments to impassioned pleas designed to manipulate emotions.
Most Important Influence Skills: Average Knowledge (nature) or Profession (soldier); Hard Knowledge (religion). Diplomacy may be also used, but it will be tough.
She will take more checks than Medda, but less than Kragr.

We are met at the crossroads of fate, to honor ages-old commitments and to observe the traditions that have long sustained the Twin Horns or to abandon old ways and to flee, hoping enough survive to eke out a future for The People, no matter the unfortunate sacrifice of the countless old, sick, and young who will perish."
Skye shakes his head in solemn consideration of the weighty decision. "It is good The People have elders with the wisdom to select the proper course for their future. How difficult such a decision must be, I cannot begin to fathom."
"It is the way of nature, is it not, that the weak give way to the strong. If the Twin Horns are not strong enough to face this challenge, perhaps, they must be the mouse to this undead pack of wolves and whatever unnatural being has birthed it."

Skye calls upon the aid of the Tender of Dreams♫♫♮♪♬. He gives Jala the Patient a glimpse of his own strength and resolve, as his eyes turn pitch black and colors drain from around him. "Know that my friends and I have made a commitment to Medda and the Twin Horns that we will not forsake. Let us join together and demonstrate that the Twin Horn following is strong enough to defeat this latest challenge. Let our victory demonstrate that the natural order of these lands cannot be subverted by an unnatural threat from beyond this world."

Aware of the gravity of their situation Corona is for once silent, mulling over the best way she could help her New Friends with negotiations. Seeing that 575 and Skye are making some headway with Jala, she considers the other two and decides to stick to what she's passingly familiar with.
She sidles up to Medda, looking a bit confused. "Um...isn't this whole thing with Ivvora a really big deal to your people, New Friend? Almost like a matter of faith. Am I right?"

Meh. With rolls like that Corona might be best-served doing Aid Another once we get a little more information!

Ezren sighs softly as the negotiations begin. It reminded him of his own past which he had no desire to revisit. He decides to tackle the large bear-man Kragr, whilst the others concentrate on the others. Perhaps learning of his customs will give him some insight.
"Hello Kragr. I am called Ezren. As you may have noticed, I am not one for small talk...but I am interested in listening to your tales and customs. If I am to discover a path for you to travel down, I must know of where you start."

Forgot to specify in my previous post, Skye is trying to influence Jala.
