Wand needs CL5, or do you have something special going on in the build? I like Wondrous, even if Wand is available.

After palling around with Pavo of late... Markus is recapturing his youth. And, closing some serious gaps in the defenses! It's more of his "war as art" or warcraft theory.

Thanks boss, don't forget Lucid!

Oh fine everyone gets some attention.

@Lucid: I actually don't think that crafting feats are particularly worthwhile. Wands get really expensive to make because your caster level keeps going up and most of the time a CL1 wand is what you want. Also the PCs wont have the months of downtime necessary to make the really expensive big ticket items. Also you will have access to the markets of Greyhawk and be able to buy anything you want.

I guess I would recommend spell focus (conjuration) if you plan on going the summoner route. The Rime spell and toppling spell metamagic feats are both pretty great as well and toppling would synergize well with your focus on magic missile.. Anywho, just my two cents.

@Khyrn: I don't know, keep being awesome??

Silver Crusade

Male Halfling Wizard 8 AC 20/16, Touch 14, FF 17/13 / HP 50/50 / F +7 R +8 W +11; +2 vs. fear / Init. +7 / Perc. +12

If I have access to the markets of Greyhawk I'll just buy a lesser metamagic rod of toppling for 3K. :) Its a sweet rod to own. I do appreciate the advise though.

Crafting can be tricky, but with the right boosts (Crafter's Fortune helps) a good caster can find time to craft 4 hours a day while adventuring and save the party a large amount of gold plus make some fun toys. I do agree with the Wand advise. Was wishing for a simple wand of Magic Missile is the only reason I was thinking about it at all.

In fact with 4 hours of work you can do a full day of crafting by taking -5 on the DC. And the spell Crafter's Fortune just happens to grand a +5 to you crafting skill. So, I guess now is a good time to run those rules by you. Do you have a problem with my crafting in 4 hour increments, using Crafter't Fortune to offset the penalty of fast crafting, and crafting on days where we do not have full days of adventuring? There are also rules for crafting in smaller increments of time and not in a quiet place to work - in general this yields half productivity but I think I could work on an item at a time even in the camp at night while on the road and slowly finish it.

Here is some relevant text from the core rule book to save you the looking of it up:

While item creation costs are handled in detail below, note
that normally the two primary factors are the caster level of
the creator and the level of the spell or spells put into the
item. A creator can create an item at a lower caster level than
her own, but never lower than the minimum level needed to
cast the needed spell. Using metamagic feats, a caster can
place spells in items at a higher level than normal.
Magic supplies for items are always half of the base price
in gp. For many items, the market price equals the base price.
Armor, shields, weapons, and items with value independent
of their magically enhanced properties add their item cost to
the market price. The item cost does not inf luence the base
price (which determines the cost of magic supplies), but it
does increase the final market price.

In addition, some items cast or replicate spells with
costly material components. For these items, the market
price equals the base price plus an extra price for the spell
component costs. The cost to create these items is the magic
supplies cost plus the costs for the components. Descriptions
of these items include an entry that gives the total cost of
creating the item.

The creator also needs a fairly quiet, comfortable, and welllit
place in which to work. Any place suitable for preparing
spells is suitable for making items. Creating an item requires
8 hours of work per 1,000 gp in the item’s base price (or
fraction thereof ), with a minimum of at least 8 hours. Potions
and scrolls are an exception to this rule; they can take as little
as 2 hours to create (if their base price is 250 gp or less). Scrolls
and potions whose base price is more than 250 gp, but less
than 1,000 gp, take 8 hours to create, just like any other magic
item. The character must spend the gold at the beginning of
the construction process. Regardless of the time needed for
construction, a caster can create no more than one magic item
per day. This process can be accelerated to 4 hours of work
per 1,000 gp in the item’s base price (or fraction thereof ) by
increasing the DC to create the item by +5.

The caster can work for up to 8 hours each day. He cannot
rush the process by working longer each day, but the days need
not be consecutive, and the caster can use the rest of his time as
he sees fit. If the caster is out adventuring, he can devote 4 hours
each day to item creation, although he nets only 2 hours’ worth
of work. This time is not spent in one continuous period, but
rather during lunch, morning preparation, and during watches
at night. If time is dedicated to creation, it must be spent in
uninterrupted 4-hour blocks. This work is generally done in a
controlled environment, where distractions are at a minimum,
such as a laboratory or shrine. Work that is performed in
a distracting or dangerous environment nets only half the
amount of progress ( just as with the adventuring caster).

Male Halfling Wizard 8 AC 20/16, Touch 14, FF 17/13 / HP 50/50 / F +7 R +8 W +11; +2 vs. fear / Init. +7 / Perc. +12

Somewhat subjective I know, but as you get higher in level you would need to craft wands of your caster level to be very useful, and those are expensive. So many good feats and I think I can get a lot more use/value from Craft Wondrous. And somewhere around 5-7th level my wizards stop running out of spells anyway. I guess that is module dependent.

Male Human Lore Warden 3 - Scout 4 | AC 21/16/15 | HP 27/63 | F+7 R+9 W+4 | Init +3 | Perc +10

Sorry, should have been more specific...

"Wands get really expensive to make because your caster level keeps going up and most of the time a CL1 wand is what you want." threw me off.

Because you can craft wands at whatever lower CL you want, as long as it's high enough to allow the casting of the spell.

So, you're Wizard 8... you can create a CL 3 invisibility wand, or a CL 1 Magic Missile wand. No?

Kinda like CLW wands... they're all 1d8+1, not 1d8+5 (when you can craft wands).

Hmmm, that's my mistake, for some reason I didn't realize that you could lower the caster level of your magic items. Makes sense I guess. Craft wand is still a bad feat.

Any who, I realize that you can craft while you're adventuring. i just wanted you to be aware that you wont get as much use out of it a you might in say a Kingmaker campaign. Especially at higher levels, this campaign literally becomes a race to prevent the apocalypse. So the feat will lose value as you progress. It'll be pretty great at the lower levels though.

Male Human Lore Warden 3 - Scout 4 | AC 21/16/15 | HP 27/63 | F+7 R+9 W+4 | Init +3 | Perc +10

I asked during recruitment. Boss man says, not crafter friendly... I get Fighter! :)

I might get Master Craftsman and make weapons, though.

I do support you decision for Craft Wondrous though, I like it... not as a power move but for utility and personalization.

Power Attack sounds a good shout - Sverrir will be fighting 1-H whilst clutching a bottle or tankard in the other.

Endurance was pre-req for Drunken Brawler feat which I really like :) thoughts on a postcard??

@Ramos: What about Defiant Luck hombre? Fits nicely in with his attitude and faith nei?

If you have your heart set on endurance, if you take a dip into the unbreakable fighter at level four, you get endurance and die hard along with heavy armour proficiency. That frees up your 3rd level feat and you still can get Drunken Brawler at level 5 and since you already lost fast movement due to your archetype, there's no penalty to wearing full plate if you want.

or I could stop trying to min/max my PCs....

Male Human Lore Warden 3 - Scout 4 | AC 21/16/15 | HP 27/63 | F+7 R+9 W+4 | Init +3 | Perc +10

Min-max'ing ideas are good... Never gonna get "this" situation again. So the specific make-up of the group itself allows unique possibilities. You can afford to be focused (min-max'ed), which could lend to AWESOMENESS.

In another group, might have to be well rounded. Or you could do what I do and min-max well roundedness.

Dwur - wear the flask on a chain! You can "drop" and swing 2-H as an option, maxing power attack?

I have a PFS character that took unbreakable to qualify for a prestige class - Living Monolith, which also required Endurance. You do not actually get it for free though. It uses up your first level fighter feat and gives you Endurance and Die Hard as a combo for that feat.

Die Hard seems to fit Sverrir pretty well too, but if you did not want the Unbreakable flavor you could actually take any fighter archetype and choose Endurance for your bonus fighter feat.

@Fanguar: Question about spells, would you allow me to take Heroic Fortune as spell?

@Ramos: I would be fine with it, but I wont allow the "recall" hero point ability. Being able to swap a 2nd level spell for a 9th level one seems a little broken. Also, I will enforce the 100gp material component cost.

Whew 3 posts in a row - I'm on a roll lol

@GMF: Could Sverrir visit with the local Smithy Manlin Osgood to order a reinforced flask and chain for his good spirits?

Based on the guide to Diamond Lake likely places to visit regards trading unwanted items would be;

Osgood Smith (MW Armour)

Ellival Moonmeadow’s Residence – head of Diamond Lakes silver mining operations and an olv to boot… perhaps would buy the armband or maybe trade it for alchemical silver weapons blanche. If no-one claims the enchanted spear, Moonmeadow might be a potential suitor for purchase?

Smelting House – has a residential potion maker, also if push-comes-to-shove could smelt down some items for use as trade bars?

Venelle’s – huntress who specialises in MW bows and arrows (should any of us want to go down that route?)

Captain’s Blade – retired guard officer who trades in MW melee weapons…

Tidwoad – is a gnome who keeps a bank vault and trades in gems… we could possibly store some loot with him??

Allustan’s – Sage and Wizard – think it’s a no-brainer we’re visiting him nei?

If I’m getting the above wrong or there are greater limits – let me know GMF, just thought it might help us between arcs to sort our wealth/loot good and proper, so as group “Quartermeister” I can track things better :)

Thank's for putting that together Sverrir.
I don't mind just giving you guys the values at this point,
silver armband(75gp)
Silver ring (50gp)
Statues are 100gp each(3x100gp)
pouch of Glass(50gp)
the worm in a jar has no value
everything else is just as per core rulebook(can be sold for half value)
Loot not from the equipment list can be sold for the value I give you, eg the ring is sold for 50gp not 25gp.

Also, you missed,
*The red metal altar. (200gp)
*Fine Ring with a Eight Pointed Star on it (100gp)
*masterwork banded mail
*Bottled Yeti Fur

The list of vendors is correct and you should be able to get something made to hold your booze for 25gp. If you just want a chain attached to your flask, 5gp.

Thanks for all the work to put the list together Sverrir. Lucid picked up the Silverware Set (value: 200gp) just because he did not want it left behind. He did not intend to claim it. So move that to the section to be sold and divided up. And he does not really need the scroll of Animate Dead as he has no intention of casting it. Necromancy is an opposition school for him. And finally, once Lucid finishes copying spell from the spellbook, it can be sold as well.

I think you also need to show the cash from the sale of the owl bear pup. Was there any coins found that need to be shown?

Its seldom a good idea to sell powerful magic items, but in some cases it might make sense. If no one plans to use that short spear it could be sold for over 4000 gold. But if Someone will use it we would be better off keeping it.

The only thing on the list of items that Lucid would want to claim is the cloak of Resistance. I know everyone can use that though. Seems like Markus should get the amulet and the cloak. Maybe Khyrn should use the short spear? Lightning seems like a good ability for a Heronian,

Here is a rough summary of gold value people have claimed to date.

Sverrir - 1300+2312+50+75 =3637
Lucid - 240+630+1000 = 1870
Pavo - 2500+2200+50+2310 = 7060

I'll take the [iCirclet of Wisdom +2[/i] and since I focus on debuffs via touch attacks I would like to take the Potion of Ghoul’s Touch and Potion of Chill Touch. If your all allright, I would also like to get my gauntlet made into a MW to aid in my touch attacks. I think I would be pretty set at that point.

I do think that Amulet of Nat Armor should go to someone like Sverrir, that tends to be in melee more then most. Aside from that we should focus on getting everyone at least a MW weapon.

I agree that we should find someone in our group who would be willing to use the spear. It currently sits as the most powerful weapon that this group has. That coupled with the the limited resources here in Diamond Lake and the untapped potential that we get off of the spear AND the Circlet means we should probably do a bit more research into these items and maybe even take those items to Allustan along with the worm. Since Markus has yet to claim anything and seems to be the resident spear/polearm user, maybe the spear can go to him and he can use it as his close range weapon.

I'm fine with Ramos taking the Circlet - most of his debuffs need a better save DC; Khyrn is spending most of his casting time buffing/healing at present, so higher DCs aren't a priority.

I'm fine if Markus takes the spear, but Khyrn will take it if he doesn't.

Using my mad spreadsheet skills I have tallied up the gold value of those things will will almost certainly sell. A few assumptions were made. Since I did not know the amount of gold we have found in total, and saw a post from Fanguar that it was less than 100 I have assumed 80.
I also assumed we are paid in full for the owl bear when we return, minus the 5% commission. All "gear" was sold at half price while items we were provided a value for were sold for that value.

The total gold is then 5593. Split 6 ways we get 932 each.

Note also that my calculation for the value of the spellbook is 432 gold, which is conservative, and may be way off. Core Rulebook says a found spellbook is worth the total of the cost to scribe each spell plus the cost to buy them. But there are two ways to buy them. Earlier in the same section of the book it talks about a wizard selling you the right to copy the spell for half the cost to scribe it. This is the value I used. i.e a second level spell costs 40 gold to scribe and therefor costs 20 gold to buy the right to copy it for total of 60 gold. But to actually buy the spell you have to buy a scroll of it for 150 gold, making the value of a second level spell in a spellbook 150+40, or 190 gold. If we take this second method of value then the spellbook is worth 3156 gold. Fanguar, please let me know what you think

This leaves the following items that we have not sold and have not been claimed with my recommendation on who should take it.

Potion of Cure Light Wounds - Markus
Cloak of Resistance +1 - Markus or Lucid
+1 Shock Silver Short spear - Khyrn, unless Markus will use it
Circlet of Wisdom +2 - Ramos or Khyrn
Potion of Gentle Repose - Assume this is an oil - lets have Khyrn carry it
Potion of Ghoul’s Touch - Paralyzing Touch for 3-8 rounds - Ramos?
Potion of False Life - Extra health for three hours - Markus
Potion of Chill Touch - To our bad touch cleric Ramos
Amulet of Natural Armour (+1) - Markus or Sverrir
Bottled Yeti Fur - I think this is natural armor. If so whoever did not get the amulet above

the short spear is a one handed, simple weapon, so it can technically work for anyone, and you can throw it.

@Lucid: I'm fine with the first value
