To get us moving again, I'll respond with Octavio today as well as roll this week's rebellion activities that you guys chose.
| Morvena Sarini |
Sounds good to me, GM!
Pádraig Henry
|
Does the unique team of Fushi family merchants earn gold, too?
GM Red
|
I think that's only if you use an activity to get them to set up shop for the week. The unique teams grant the actions, but don't act independently.
GM Red
|
Maybe I muddied the waters a little, so I wanted to clarify that climbing/flying is an alternative to using the road to the keep itself, which is a more direct route, but may have other hazards. Cue Indiana Jones rolling boulder
| Roger Schmitt |
Ah ok. Ya, I do still think we should be sure to have other modes of transport available since we're at that level where things are flying and such. Would a potion of fly be something that's available?
GM Red
|
Is a potion of fly available? <75: 1d100 ⇒ 52
It is. BUT! Each one you buy will decrease the potential that another is available by 10%. So 65% for the next one, 55%... etc., for the week.
GM Red

I don't see why it wouldn't be generally known that the mountains are pretty far from Kintargo. While it seems we're leaning towards scaling the mountains or flying once we get there, it is a journey in and of itself to travel there, needing some five days on foot.
I'd been thinking about how to better run overland travel in PbP, which will be comprised mostly of encounters should they occur. I thought about omitting narrating through the travel entirely, because it doesn't add to the overarching story and ends up being more of a board game. On the other hand, it's not really realistic to magically appear at the mountains with no dangers on the way there. I could see that that may happen in PFS due to time constraints, but an AP is an AP. In the end, however, you guys are the players and I wouldn't want to put you through something unenjoyable. Open to opinions and ideas.
Pádraig Henry

If you've got the time and are so inclined, I'd appreciate a bit of a travelogue to go along with the random encounters. (And random encounters sometimes come with some random treasure, and sometimes more, if we find their lair.)
Maybe copy and paste some bits from the Pathfinder wiki?
| Morvena Sarini |
^Pretty much in agreement with Padraig. I don't really like random encounters if the sole purpose is just to pad out the length of the adventure but it also makes sense that, depending on where you are, that you'll occasionally encounter wandering monsters or bandits or something. And with a bit of a effort those encounters can be spiced up a little :)
| Geoffrey Piersym |
I disagree here. Random encounters are the lifeblood of an adventure here. Mind you they don't always have to lead to combat, but to say nothing happens during our trek is not very realistic IMHO.
Bring 'em ON!!
GM Red
|
Thanks for your input guys. We'll keep the random encounters and I'll do my best to add in more interesting bits without taking us too far off the beaten path.
Pádraig Henry
|
Morvena, did you scribe the spells from the spellbook we found in the squid-god's lair?
Have we sold our 'excess' loot yet?
| Morvena Sarini |
Actually no, totally forgot about those. I'll account for it next time I post.
GM Red
|
I updated the loot tracker with what I think you guys want to sell, but feel free to modify if not.
| Roger Schmitt |
Oh I love me some random travel encounters. I've always thought the most memorable events of an adventure can happen on the travel. Its always very unsuspected and random, while once you are on location its usually all dirty business.
| Morvena Sarini |
Whoops, looks like I already did scribe some stuff from that last spellbook as noted here. So we should be good to go ahead and sell it, if we can find a buyer!
GM Red
|
The spellbook is worth about 185 gold pieces (cost of spellbook + cost of each spell in it) so it can be sold for half that. Given its rare and unique construction, I could see Newt giving you 100 flat.
After selling off the goods, I'm intending on moving us out of Kintargo and on our way to the Menador today. Get yer hiking boots laced up.
GM Red
|
Looks like the total proceeds are 1425 gold pieces, divided by 5 = 285 gp each to add to your sheets.
I also finished up the bookkeeping by moving off everything sold and claimed to the Items Claimed tab.
Pádraig Henry
|
Just want to confirm that this encounter is taking place on the same day as the previous encounter.
GM Red

I thought I'd mention a little preemptively that once you rest and wake up, you will be Level 8!

Cool beans!
Working tonight so I'll get Morv leveled up tomorrow.
| Roger Schmitt |
Ya I'm gonna hit the hay so I'll look forward to leveling in the morning. Peace.
| Roger Schmitt |
Victor is leveled. He's now got that precious +6 BAB so has another attack! He also gained 7 HP, +1 reflex save, a s&$% ton of skill points, and probably the biggest gain:
Multitalented (Ex) (Pathfinder Unchained pg. 22): The rogue can use her rogue talents more often. Once per day, she can use a rogue talent that is normally only usable once per day one additional time. At 10th level and 18th level, she can use this talent one additional time per day (for a maximum total of 3 additional uses of a rogue talent that can normally only be used once per day). The uses of this talent do not have to be spent on the same rogue talent. This ability cannot be used with an advanced talent.
Basically letting him use resiliency twice a day. Three times a day at level 10. More 'oh s#@& I'm gonna die' buttons are good.

PH was just role-playing the encounter, seizing an opportunity to grow the rebellion and hoping this particular alliance might also infuse a new stream of revenue into our finances.
Does it actually have a mechanical effect, GM?
GM Red
|
Oh, it'll certainly be +2 supporters.
I'm mulling over how it will impact the treasury. Two merchants isn't enough to gain an additional unique team, but I'm considering having them join up with your current team of merchants and call it a team upgrade to the next tier.
| Roger Schmitt |
Sounds quite reasonable. Also, keep having PH do his thing. Even Victor would have tried to get them involved on some level just to help maybe smuggle in some useful goods for the team.
| Morvena Sarini |
Sounds good to me, GM.
I'm behind on getting Morv leveled but I will try and get that done this evening.
Pádraig Henry

Ah, somehow Red's link took me to a different slide in his deck-of-many-slides (#11 not #10).
GM Red

Heh, I thought you were teasing my leaving a monster on the map :)

*psst*
Padraig...think that post was meant for a different Gameplay ;)
Pádraig Henry

Thanks. Too many windows/tabs open at once. ;-)
| Morvena Sarini |
Much as I said elsewhere...GM, I wouldn't have minded if you'd wanted to bot or delay Morv. Apologies for slowing things down :(
GM Red

It's no problem. Haven't been quite as inspired to write these days, either way. But I'll have us updated later on today.
| Roger Schmitt |
Ya there's certainly no rush for posting on my account, especially on the weekend.

Since I've largely been MIA on the boards, I thought I'd update you guys. While our game is slow-moving right now, I'm not abandoning it. I committed to completing this several years ago and it's the one campaign I'd really like to see through to the end.
The open-ended aspect of this part of the adventure has meant really exercising my creativity, but also really increased how much effort I had to put into it (ie. the ogre camp is not provided, nor is the treasure, terrain, or choice of monsters), so it's been harder to get the ball rolling mentally. Wouldn't mind having us at our destination the day after this encounter to ease some of the effort.
My intentions are to get the combat continued this week, thanks for being patient!
| Roger Schmitt |
Sounds like a solid plan on this end. Let's smash some ogres then blow up a building!

If it's too taxing at present and ever again in the future, GM, don't hesitate to forego this aspect of the campaign.
We all experience the ebb and flow of enthusiasm. We enjoy play most when our GM is having a good time, too.
