Heh, Welcome to MY world! ;P It's been a while since I've actually gotten to use an area Dispel, do I need to make one check for each target?
[ooc]I looked it up d20 srd; you check on each target in a 20 foot radius spread; from highest level spell to lowest level spell in effect on the target until you dispel one. I guess...um...
if you want to roll about 4-5 d20's for each guy you want to dispel on, I'll take and go down the list of their buffed spells and see if you knocked them out.So....
1 set for the robed guy
1 set for Gittik's pappy
1 set for the harpy
1 set for the ugly goblin chick
1 set for the goblin with the pig
1 set for the archer and
1 set for the weird hobgoblin...
and I'll figure the results from there.....
Altai Iscarni |
Important note: Area dispel only knocks off ONE spell/effect per person. You start with the highest level one and then work your way down until an effect is dispelled; then repeat for each target. Targeted dispel, OTOH, can dispel every effect on a single target.
Beldan Vale |
I presume that at least on the inside of the crescent, the sand gently falls away into the surf, rather than just drops off immediately at a shelf? Like there’s some shallow water to walk through?
Baldan figures that walking on soft sand is going to give away his position, invisible or no, so he’ll walk at the waters edge, if there’s a point where the water is only an or so deep so he won’t displace much water or splash to give his position away, but the sand is firm enough that he won’t leave really noticeable prints.
Maybe about S21 or so.

Elgan Dreadwood |
The small wild elf shimmers, and turns into a wolf.
Not the cute little lovable ball of teeth and fur that the group is used to him being, but a monstrous, LARGE Dire Wolf with bone spurs sticking out of his thick fur, and huge paw-like claws that tear up the earth as if it were paper.
Elgan-Dire-Wolf throws back his head and HOWLS, and his voice echoes across the sandy beach and slams into the group on the opposite side of the tiny island with almost physical force as the magic takes effect and attempts to strip them of their enchantments,...
dungeonmaster heathy |
Gittik's pappy is unscathed by both fireballs.
The harpy is cooked somewhat.
The archer is dead.
The man in the robes is unscathed.
The ugly goblin lass on the harpy is dead.
The goblin with the pig is dead, along with his pig.
The varag is out of the radius of everything.
Three down aint bad,....
Altai Iscarni |
Hey, three dead! That was much, much better than I was hoping for. Of course, the guy I really wanted to cook was the robed punter, and he's completely unhurt...
Elgan's Large now, so he takes up EF 20-21. Also, Altai jogs into the surf once he cast the Fireball - he's in U19 at the end of his turn.

Right on....
"Hey, good for nothing son!!! Me GLAD you kill them, now me not have to pay them!!! Stupid son, finally you am do something right for change."
Pendobar 'Pip' Bushytoe |
... Did I get Pip's Haste?
That's my first order of business!
"Cutlass clash and pirates fight
Through the day and through the night
Hellwind's crew is in the van
chopping necks as best they can."
After Hasting Gittik, Pip will cast Hideous Laughter on Gittik's dad.
To Gittik's dad:
"Hey, what's worse than a pile of dead goblins?
One at the bottom eating his way free!"
dungeonmaster heathy |
"That OK - me not want to waste time kill them before me get to you."
Flying charge to P7. Roll to hit = 18 + 2 + 13 = 33. Roll to confirm crit = 13 + 2 + 13 = 28. Damage = 4 + 4 + 1 frost = 9, or plus a further 5 for 14 damage if crit is confirmed. Did I get Pip's Haste?
Yes; you had time to at that, in the precombat buff phase.
Oso Legumbe |
Sorry for the delay.
Oso will cast fly, bulls strength and magic circle vs evil on himself while the insults are flung.
He raises his holy symbol and calls on Kelanen, "cast off all magical protections from that man, My Prince!"
Targetted Dispel Magic at the robed and unhurt figure. Caster level checks for any spells, 10+7=17, 10+7=17, 3+7=10, 3+7=10, 17+7=24.
Oso moves up with the rest to keep some in his circle of protection.
dungeonmaster heathy |
The varag runs up; he gets to e16, 15 feet away from Elgan. He comes around the corner pumping like a greyhound.
The harpy flies up to Oso at O22.
The robed dude fireballs Riese Altai and Pip; reflex save d.c.18 for 28 h.p. in damage.
Gittik's Pappy hacks away at his son with scimitar and kukri.
Gittik takes 17 h.p. damage.
"Now you die, son."
ROUND 2!!!!!
The goblins on the ship are going for buckets to put out fireball-caused fires here and there...

Haste is one person per level. So I reckon we are all hasted and move an extra 30 foot if needed.
Gittik |
"Heh heh heh.... BLAAAAARGHHH!"
Rage on, spending some points to get the bite attack too. So that 3 attacks with the scimitar, 2 with the kukri and one with the bite. Here we go:
Attack 1 scimitar: 11 + 13 + 1 (Haste) = 25; damage = 2 + 6 + 5 frost = 13
Attack 2 scimitar: 4 + 13 + 1 = 18; damage = 2 + 6 + 1 frost = 9
Attack 3 scimitar (Haste): 20 + 8 + 1 = 29; crit confirm roll = 2 + 8 + 1 = 11 = unlikely; damage = 4 + 6 + 5 frost = 15
Attack 1 kukri: 18 + 13 + 1 = 32; crit confirm roll = 13 + 13 + 1 = 27; damage = 3 + 4 + 5 shock = 12, or 17 if crit is confirmed
Attack 2 kukri: 13 + 8 + 1 = 22; damage = 2 + 4 + 1 shock = 7
Bite: 2 + 13 + 1 = 16 = unlikely.

I didn't realize that so many were hasted when I moved you guys.
I'll take it into account next round though.Oso Legumbe |
Oso attacks the harpy before him with the broadsword.
Can move 35 ft and still qualify for a full attack, attack roll 6+13=19, damage 8+6=14pts, and haste attack 18+13=31, Damage=10pts.
"Get him Gittik. That pappy of yours should have looked after you better. he deserves to die. Mine never gave me hugs either."
Altai Iscarni |
Missed the Relex save. Ouch!
Fish-Altai paddles towards the north end of the sandbar with unnatural speed. Once he gets close enough to the robed man, he stops and casts a spell. A sinister-looking black ray streaks towards the robed spellcaster, hitting him squarely in the chest.
Moving to X5 - with both Haste and Expeditious retreat, that should be no problem. I then cast Enervation on Robed Guy, who temporarily loses 3 levels (assuming that the ray hit - attack roll 12+7=touch AC 19). He loses his highest memorised spell slot, takes -3 on all his attack rolls etc. and casts spells as if he was 3 levels lower. It only lasts a few hours, but that should be more than enough.
Altai Iscarni |
Honestly, I'm not entirely certain how Enervation works out for spellcasters - i.e. let's say he went from level 7 to 4; I'm not sure if he can cast 3rd level spells at all, or if his Fireball spells would just do 4d6 damage. Since the description states that he loses his highest level spell, I'd be inclined to go with the latter interpretation (if he went from level 7 to 4 in all respects, he'd lose a lot more than that).

I got it; it's all in the d20 srd--you lose one spell slot off your highest level available spells.
