The evil tree chucks Alluriel towards its mouth, but for a mysterious reason she is stopped in mid-air.

A hollow roaring of a large cat is heard, along with a frantic battlecry of a man.
Near Alluriel, the figure of a man wielding a greatsword, as well as a spectral cat resembling Shadow, manifest.

As Alluriel is tossed away from the tree as if by unnatural force, the two spectrals make a fanatic charge, plunging their spectral weapons into the tree, and a twilight glow comes from it, like a great domed pulse.

Afterwards, as the sight becomes clear again, the tree lays on its bark back, dead as can be. Alluriel lays nearby unconscious.
She slowly comes to, yet does not seem to recognize any of you, as a cautious look is on her face.

Knowledge religion 15:

It is an uncommon event, but there have been tales of the spirits of a person's protector making a final stand on behalf of their charges.

Poor Vaunu's still KO. ^^

Searching around, the team finds the green gem the witch wanted you to find. As well as a small strange triangular stone, the size of a small compass, black as obsydian, but not obsydian.

From nearby, Lilliana approaches, her eyes seeminly a bit groggy.
"This was not a pleasant afternoon. I can get you back, though."

She leads you back to the witch's abode, where the branches turn into a face once again. As you now pop the question of whether she can talk to the dead, or if she has a lead regarding the 'estate lost in time', she answers yes to both.

Given Alluriel's condition, you decide to take the latter, and she tells you it is located somewhere in the western woods, and that you might have a chance to actually find it in 3 days.

Lillianna gets something from her in person, before the latter takes you back to town.

Once back in town, it is dark, and the prospect of a warm bed is quite welcoming. As you enter, you see two newcomers standing out.

Cue the two new arrivals for introduction/RP. :)

I'm guessing we all meet at the inn- possibly the foyer?

Sticking out like quite a sore thumb (if it was enlarged and colored in a scaly-patterned, greenish hue!), stands a tall, scaly reptilian-looking individual dressed in a heavy, exotic-appearing armor of eastern design.

This person also happens to be holding this large glass globe, with some kind of roiling effect within it, in one of his outstretched hand as he consults his "readings" from that globe from time to time.

When this scaled reptile-humanoid catches sight of the group as they enter past the doorway, he will regard each member of the group briefly with an unblinking stare before turning to address a nearby heavily-armored Half Orc.

"They be the ones that all the others in this place are talking about, yes?"

Standing next to Uke was Thandir. Armored in well used full plate, the half-orc stood as still as a statue. His face looked like it had been hit with a hammer more than once. Old wounds or just plain orc ugliness? It was hard to tell. The tattoos covering his exposed skin didn’t help either. Most striking of all was the oversized axe that was resting on his shoulder. A brutal looking weapon that seemed too large for actual use in combat. With Uke he looked at each of the party members, sizing them up one by one.

”Do you need healing?” His voice was a touch too loud.

If healing is needed, he will do the following, stopping when the party is healed

CLW: 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9
CMW: 2d8 + 5 ⇒ (6, 6) + 5 = 17
CLW: 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12
Fervor: 2d6 ⇒ (2, 2) = 4

If at 0 HP, that will bring you up to 42HP. Which is where healing will stop. If still in negatives for some reason, then...

Fervor: 2d6 ⇒ (4, 5) = 9

Which brings you to full.

"State your names while you heal the Wayang. His name is...ummm...oh yes Vaunu. And yes he is as deadly as he looks. I am Jurgan. Thandir stopped in mid prayer, the wounds of the wayang stopped knitting together as well. His eyes narrowed, and he could feel that familiar rage bubbling up. For an uncomfortable moment he stared at the dwarf, before he reached a hand up to the tattoos on his face and closed his eyes.

Seeing the Dwarf, whom the Nagaji presumes to be the local Lordling of the place by the way that the little bearded man presents himself, prattle on about all manner of things despite the group of four... no, three- as the young lady of the group has already wandered off upon her own... returning in a less than hale condition, it causes no small amount of bemusement from Uke as the Samurai quietly looks on while Thrandir tends to Vaunu's wounds. Such a funny, short bearded man, this Lordling; but he did carry an injured fellow back- so he couldn't possibly be all that insufferable of a noble.

While it was normal etiquette for your average Samurai to acknowledge most any nobles (depending on their standing), it was something that the Nagaji held very little in regards to ever since he took up listening to the Kami spirits. Hence, Uke felt little need to add anything more to Jurgan than what Thrandir had already answered with.

To both Catharina (after she had gotten Thrandir's enthusiastic answer) and Vaunu (directly introducing himself to Uke with a polite nod), Uke replies respectively with "That we shall, good innkeeper." to the innkeeper and "Good to see you well, Vaunu- I'm called Uke; I would be... how do the Amanandari call it as?... a knight. Yes, a knight in service to the Kami."

Following alongside with the others, Uke replies to Thrandir with, "It would seem that he is. The other little one- that you hold in high esteem- seems to be the noble Lordling of this place. The taller one must be his loyal bodyguard then?"

To Catharina's declaration of free room and board, Uke will say, "Appreciated, good innkeeper; do we need to go and see this council now?"

Belegar, who has been lost in thought, bridles at the suggestion he is a bodyguard.

"No. I am a skald. I know effete nobles take hale and hearty Ulfen bodyguards, as in Taldor, but this dwarf is no noble and I am no bodyguard."

He shrugs, and looks around, almost as if waking from a torpor, "The dwarf, my good Jurgan," he places a meaty hand on the dwarf's shoulder, "Is a wizard, and his insufferable air of arrogance comes not from silver spoons but ivory towers. His high learning is too high and mighty for us hoi polloi."

He looks directly at Jurgan, not the newcomers, "But he is a good man to have in a tight spot, and a keen mind at that. Without him, I would be tree food. We are allies."

He turns to look at the men again, "Korada, eh? A noble calling. Do you belong to a monastery? Do you share your faith?"

---

At the balcony, Belegar peers into the dimming light even as the group talks.
I fear I shall lock eyes with you again, predatory foe.
An old verse rings through Belegar's head and he recites it almost thoughtlessly,
"I HAVE a rendezvous with Death
At some disputed barricade,
When Spring comes back with rustling shade
And apple-blossoms fill the air—
I have a rendezvous with Death
When Spring brings back blue days and fair.

It may be he shall take my hand
And lead me into his dark land
And close my eyes and quench my breath—
It may be I shall pass him still.
I have a rendezvous with Death
On some scarred slope of battered hill,
When Spring comes round again this year
And the first meadow-flowers appear.

God knows 'twere better to be deep
Pillowed in silk and scented down,
Where love throbs out in blissful sleep,
Pulse nigh to pulse, and breath to breath,
Where hushed awakenings are dear...
But I've a rendezvous with Death
At midnight in some haunted town,
When Spring trips north again this year,
And I to my pledged word am true,
I shall not fail that rendezvous."

Unconsciously, Belegar's grip tightens on his greatsword.

With apologies to Alan Seeger.

Rolling his eyes as the two newcommers discuss the party, he smiles slightly as Belegar gushes over Jurgan. Not wanting to feed the dwarfs ego too badly nor teriibly interested in religion, he speaks to Uke as Belegar inquires about Thandir's beliefs. "Why yes- you presume rightly- I am from there... from the nation of Nagajor to be more exact... but it has been many years now since I last saw home; I freely wandered to these parts upon behest of the Kami spirits for they sense something is truly amiss here but they also sense great opportunity here as well. Thrandir and I will be more than willing to assist you with this mystery of yours."

Cool. Have to remember that for this game.

Jurgan heads upstairs ignoring most of the ongoing commentary minus Belegar compliment. The rest of what he said he ignores.

"A noble? If I was a noble it would not be here." He pauses before saying more remembering that the innkeeper might be overhearing, "There Council does a WONDERFUL JOB. Ruling over people would distract me from my true purpose. Smashing shields...hmm likely not and do not take the little one for the brains of the operation. Do not forget he just woke up from a severe concussion. Now then you converse while I drink my kaffe in peace. Innkeep KAFFE PLEASE!"

I knew i had a picture of Catharina somewhere.
Here.

Hehe.

As Vaunu and Uke finish their chat in the draconic speech, Catharina steps away from the bar, as she calls out towards the kitchen.

"Luc-ianne, p'tik yug deseer parla'k. No pau-ra lu multak, ma'ben?"

Orcish:

"Lucianne, the little guy wants to talk to you. Don't scare him too much, okay?"

The curtain's pushed aside, and a young half-orc woman, dressed in a barmaid's leather and fabric corset, walks in. She does give off an air she's no pushover.

Perception those taller than Vaunu, DC 15:

You see a faint mischievous smile exchanged between Catharina and Lucianne.

Sense motive 18: Perhaps she's pulling a prank on the little guy for something he did or said?

Lucianne places her hands on the counter, and looks down towards Vaunu with a neutral yet inquisitive expression.
"You wanted to talk to me? Speak up."

Vaunu wrote:
"We have been gone most of the day, has anything happened that we should know about?"

"Some drunken patrons. A better curfew's in effect, it sounds like the watch has doubled effort in its patrols for the nights.

Khane's coach is having a maintenance, and that's about today's events."

"Monastery? No. Korada is in my heart." Thandir banged his fist to his chest. Given that both were covered in steel, it made a 'clang.'

"I-" He trailed off when he saw the half-orc woman. His eyes were immediately drawn to her scars. The extra smile carved onto her face. The cuts on her forehead which were proudly displayed. He had to stop his jaw from dropping. "Skald. Have you ever seen such beauty?" He all but whispered the sentence. It was the softest anyone had heard him speak thus far.

still downstairs
Standing near Catharina, Vaunu is mildly confused as the 'barmaid' comes out to answer his question, 'Ah, I said 'barmaid' not owner in draconinc, that means that our Inn owner is more ecclectic than I would have supposed.' Vaunu nods and smiles. "Thank you for your assistance Lucianne. If you see or hear of anything that may be of assist please let us know."

He draws out a gold coin and reaching up he sets it on the counter, turning and looking at Catharina, he draws out another gold coin, resting it on the bar and pushes it to the 'barmaid' "Again, thank you."

He turns and nods to the owner. "خير ادا ڪئي وئي، مون کي معزول ڪرڻ جو مطلب ناهي، ڇا اسان کي خبر پئجي وئي آهي؟"

Draconic:
"Well played Mistress, I was not meaning to offend, Has anything happened we should be aware of?"

Innkeepers can be very talented people. ^^

"Well played? Whatever are you suggesting, you wanted to speak to the barmaid didn't you?", she replies with a soft smile.

The formidable barmaid notices the gawking Thrandir.

With a neutral expression she casually points at Thrandir's hand.
"Zeeon, tarm vaed dro'kk a tou voot."

Orcish:

"Attention, your weapon is about to fall on your foot."

Thrandir, reflex save DC 12 if you please, to snap to and grab hold of that weapon before you drop it.

Jurgan gets his cup of bitter cafeïne in a mug that oozes (hold me and enjoy my content and keep your hand warm)

Catharina repeats what Lucianne had told Vaunu.

In the later hours of the evening, some of you have gathered on the 10ft x 15ft balcony, which overlooks the majority of the town.

In the distance, you can see the light of hanging lamps, scattered throughout the township. Watch patrols of three each move about, their torches shedding some light as they walk by.

About 40ft away, a set of lamps suddenly goes dark......

At the last moment he caught his halberd. He offers an embarrassed smile.

”Friend Skald. I must impress her. I need a trophy to bring. You make heroic saga, yes?” He said expectantly.

It's DC15 to ignore the first 10ft so you're good.

Belegar, you are still in very poor health. 4 HP, actually. Any pre-encounter healing, go ahead. You'll want to be healthy, you really do.
