Bartan looks a bit white when he comes back down from the telescope. "My friends, these gnolls are monstrous. I just witnessed the slaughter of a large number of female gnolls and pups by a large group of males. They were wearing an emblem that looks like a scorpion. The worst, part, though.... they seem to be moving this way. I don't know how long it will take them to get here, but this could be very bad."

Hadassa, how far away was this group of gnolls? Would it actually be reasonable to go after them right now?

Bartan and Avenka count 5 that have made it across chacing the women and pups. You guess 20 min for them to make it to you. But the males will over run them in much less time unless you act.

"They are clearly expecting allies here or at least shelter. Most likely the Gnoll guarding this place... I wonder how they will react when a group of humans show up."

Dhavyn pauses for a moment to think "Even *if* we rushed to their aid I wonder how they will react when they get caught between two potentially hostile forces... We could certainly glean more information if we rescued them but we will also reveal our presence here to the forces chasing them. We might soon have more Gnolls after us than we are capable handling..."

"Still I guess there's no harm trying..." he says somewhat reluctantly.

...but what guarantee we have that the Gnolls we will rescue show any signs of gratitude. More likely we end up feeding their hungry pups the moment they spot a weakness in our defenses Dhavyn thinks to himself.

Avenka will turn towards Anjali. She knows she showed some reluctance regarding the gnolls before too.

"Anjali, what do you think ? I'm torn here... I don't want to let down anybody here, but I fear they might not choose the right battle... Whatever you decide, I'll support and follow you."

Anjali rakes her hair away from her face in frustration. She points at Yazi's receding form, already heading for the group of gnolls. Her voice quavers with barely contained anger. "That kind of foolishness is not giving me much of a choice, Avenka! If I do not go out there...if you do not go out there, how long do you think will they last against so many?"

It takes several breaths for her to regain control of her emotions. "This will take all of us working together to survive what is coming."

And this will be my chance to aid in killing as many of those gnolls as I can.

You travel at top speed toward the scene. In a shallow depression between two dunes you find a tiny oasis pond. Strune up the side of the opposite dune the dead are spread out among the palms and rocks. There are but two females and one juvenile Gnoll left alive, and they are desperately trying to escape the squad of males. One female is fighting off the Gnolls with a javelin, while the other female, an old crone, leads the child up the hill; the bodies of two other females lie still near the bottom of the hill.

Suddenly, the child sees you. She freezes in their tracks, not knowing what to do. The old crone pushing her along see you too, and for a brief second, a flash of relief almost washes over their faces. Then, a chilling scream shakes your nerves and all eyes look to see that the other female protecting the rear has been caught. One Gnoll has her by the hair; she kicks and struggles against him. Another gnoll swiftly draws a knife across her throat, slicing it open from ear to ear.

The child begins screaming and crying, her face contorted in fear. The old crone looks up at you, her eyes pleading. H-help…us! Pl-please! she manages to say in broken Common.

Looking at the attackers Yazi will speak, although it comes out more a growl, a growl belonging to something more primal than what you currently see standing where Yazi is. "Y'all done f##%ed up now." She draws her blade as she advances towards the Gnolls.

Hajar shouts I Lyset av Daggry!

Gnollish:

and charges towards the incoming gnoll warriors as fast as he can move. Looking at the encounter map, I think I might be able to get to one of the gnolls this round but since initiative hasn't been rolled...also the charge was for flavor, Hajar cannot actually charge one of the gnolls since it isn't in a straight line and there is probably rough terrain also.

Assuming the "grid" is again 5 ft I should be able to hit the Gnoll in the bottom right or middle with fire ray even if the diagonal movement to avoid the rock and the two friendly gnolls is going to eat +5 extra ft of that movement (first diagonal is normal, the other extra 5). Anjali feels her heart pounding furiously in her chest at the upcoming battle. She forces herself to retain a semblance calm, bringing her weapon up to check the loaded crossbow in her hands once more. Already the buzzing in her ears comes and goes, but she manages to catch the elder crone's words.

"Quick, behind the rocks!" she calls back sharply to the two remaining survivors, pointing toward the only reasonable cover in sight.

I hope this is not a ploy or we shall soon have an enemy in front of us as well as behind.

Bartan moves forward and around the rock outcropping, making way for his more melee-focused allies. He then uses his Swift action to enhance the partial harrow deck at his waist and pulls a card:

Harrow card: 1d36 ⇒ 31 => The Cricket (Neutral Good, Dexterity)

As he casts a spell, the card charges with magical energy, and a faint chirping sound is heard coming from the card itself. Casting shocking grasp, using Harrowed Spellstrike to deliver it with the card.

"The Cricket's speed and guile will guide this card to your jowls, evil creature!"

Bartan throws the card, and while in the air it sort of zig-zags toward its target, sparking and chirping all the way. Throwing at the same gnoll that Avenka is attacking.
    Card throw: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21 (+2 if he's wearing metal armor)
    Damage: 1d4 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5 plus shocking grasp: 2d6 ⇒ (4, 5) = 9 electricity

Burning Hands: V, S / 15 cone burst / Reflex DC15 for half damage. Flammable materials burn if the flame touches them. A character can extinguish burning items as a full-round action.

As far as being powerful. Sure. I just need to get a mass elemental protection to my allies. We are so melee focused and the maps are so small that I'd hit my allies most of the time even with cones. Heck imagine what happens when I get fireball or firefall! Firefall would hit *everyone* on the current map. Even fireball covers half the map. It's not the lack of power I'm concerned about. :)

We made it out ok. No water in my house or any of my neighbors. I actually live across a state highway from a river that rose 7 feet in 2 days. We had a bit of a scare but that's it. I cannot say that for many people around us. I'm also in the national guard and we have been activated but my first sgt called and told me not to worry about it for now. Stay safe, Hajar/GM Niles. Keep your socks dry and find a 10-ft pole as soon as you get to your emergency relief station. Stay away from cars on top of hills - they're booby-trapped, and stay away from trees above the waterline - spiders and snakes. Zip-lock bag all your stuff in your ACUs in case you end up in the water.

But do NOT drive the HMMWV straight into the deep water at speed: the radiator fan hits that water and shrapnels the engine block behind it. Really ticks off the motor pool SGT when you tow the HMMWV back.

And remember - when the young woman says she's got a baby in the house and needs a ride over the river to go back to her after she's done her shopping trip, she's lying. There is no baby in the house, she just wants a free ride across the river on the FMTV.

You let something permanently fuse/possess your hand, the first feat gives you +1 to attack and damage with that hand, bonuses to skills, and a once per day Quickdraw, the second one cuts down the penalty on TWF attacks with that hand by 2 AND if you're unconscious, paralyzed, or stunned the hand can act on its own:

    • The hand can retrieve or pick up an item or weapon as a
    standard action.
    • The hand can attempt any of the following skill checks
at a –4 penalty: Disable Device, Escape Artist, Heal,
Sleight of Hand, or Use Magic Device.
    • The hand can knock you prone as a free action, and
drag you while you’re prone at a speed of 5 feet as a full-
    round action.
    • The hand can perform any other action appropriate for
a hand and an arm, such as pouring a held potion into
your mouth or awakening you from a sleep spell.
    • The hand can make a single melee or ranged attack with
    a light or one-handed weapon as a full-round action.

The third one lets the hand detach and work as a scout (if it gets destroyed it can regenerate).

Theres also one that gives you darkvision and can't be flanked, another gives you a knowledge skill as a class skill and once per day can add half their level onto a hand related check.

I think our paladin would perform immediate preventive surgery on that option.

If ya'll want prisoners to interrogate, you've got to learn to call out subdual damage.
