Yes, she did. I missed that somehow. My bad.

Move along, move along, nothing to see here. :)

Well done all!
Hmmm. If Eirik is grappling something, does that mean that Caleb can percieve there is an enemy?
Wondering if he can either
(A) run up and Aid Another
(B) roll the waterball over them (this is a move action to direct a spell already cast)

rolls:

Natsiel AoO: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (18) + 12 = 30, hit
damage: 1d8 + 10 + 2d6 ⇒ (5) + 10 + (6, 4) = 25
critical?
Natsiel AoO: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (10) + 12 = 22, no
damage: 1d8 + 10 + 2d6 ⇒ (2) + 10 + (3, 2) = 17

concentration check to cast while grappled, DC 21: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (7) + 15 = 22, pass
Eirik will save DC 18: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13, fail

Stats

Can Caleb roll the waterball over Natsiel? not sure how instinctive the control is.

Caleb Cage wrote:

Not even thinking whether he could actually do it, I don't think he has enough motive yet.

He has not seen her attack anyone just yet since the AoO was done while she was still invisible.

She was visible when she cast the spell but between the grappling and the fact that it was not overly 'attacking', I don't think a person with an INT of 1 would pick up on that.

Stats

Sure. I'm pretty impressed with the spell. I think Feeblemind just made the list for "first 5th level spell"

Like I said before, it's the first I came across it. I'm sure that has a lot has to do with the fact that I don't like high-level play but I agree that it's pretty good.

Hey, at least now she's visible. :) (my greater invisibility wore off) :(

Female Human Inquisitor(Infiltrator)/10

Considering Noravia is the only ally capable of attacking close-up this round, she'll probably get her butt kicked soon enough.

Noravia saw Eirik go stock still so she moved up to engage the now visible demoness. Directing her weapon to be more deadly against evil outsiders, she attacked and hopefully disrupted her concentration.

Using a round of bane

As the inquisitor swung her morningstar repeatedly at the demon, she said to Eirik, "Snap out of it, Eirik! She has no power over you."

Can the enemy with Eirik with a sword since she was being grappled? That limits weapon use a lot.

With her ward now held close Rizolla began to think only of safety. Her primitive mind couldn't handle much more than that and seeing the demoness appear kicked in her flight or flight response to be flight. She quickly moved back the only safe way she could, the way she had come down here trying to get herself and her ward, child?, safely away from here.

Booking it back the way we came to get out of the room and away from here. At least going to the room where Strea is at.

Never mind the attacks... that was the AoO, obviously...

Noravia wrote:

Eirik experienced a moment of sheer panic as his own body became a prison. His muscles seized and more; it was almost as if time had stopped for his flesh while his mind still remained free to rattle the bars of his gage. The Inquisitor's words rallied his, though, and Eirik focused all his attention to breaking loose. He stilled his frantic thoughts and focused his Ki inwards, seeking to regain mastery of his own body. Slowly, ever so slowly, he felt the tide of lifeforce purging the outside influence. A finger twitched, followed by a shudder running across his entire body. Then, with an audible gasp of breath, he threw off the mystical shackles and refocused his gaze on the enemy, finally visible for his eyes to see.

Noravia: you won't be able to attack as a full round action since you need to move to get to the demoness.

Vandomir: I had you delay last turn but with two people out of the fight, the group really needs you to post daily and do your part...

Questions?

male

Guys,

Vandomir and I have exchanged PMs and agreed that it was best for him to drop off the game. Vandomir was finding it hard to keep up with game given its format and sounded like this had become a chore for him. Since this is supposed to be fun for everyone, it just made sense to part ways.

I'll NPC Vandomir for the time being and then we'll figure out a way to relegate him to the background of the on-going story.

You all still have a 'delicate' situation to deal with here so we'll see how the pieces fall in place.

PS: What should Vandomir do? Anybody want to take over him for this encounter?

Female Human Inquisitor(Infiltrator)/10

I mentioned a few things about the campaign to her when I visited. I remember her being aghast that we were ninth level and somewhat jealous so I was pretty sure she'd jump at the chance to start as a ninth level character :)

Noravia yelled in exasperation that the demoness had disappeared but was also secretly relieved that she chose not to fight them. This was short-lived however as Noravia was filled with concern for Hetamon. "We need to find Hetamon. I doubt she left. She probably went to wherever she's holding him and he's in grave danger." Holding Eirik and Vandomir's gazes she asked, "Are you up to finding Hetamon or should we cut our losses and protect Caleb and Rizzola by leaving?"

Noravia is quite torn. She doesn't want to leave Hetamon but if she has to choose him or Caleb, she'd choose Caleb.

Any other exits off this room other than the one we came in?

Male Human Monk (unchained) 11

There's three doors on the map at least.

About what to do... as I said, the enemy is short on several nasty spells. Now's a good time to fight. But we are down a few people... if there were enemies behind those doors I'd imagine they would have joined the battle already. More likely Hetamon or another prisoner is there and the devil is preparing to threaten us using them. And it can't be much fun for our two incapacitated players...

How about this; we get out and take the thiefling lady with us. We don't go far but use one of the Raven figurines to call for help (and some PC/NPC reinforcement s for Caleb and Tillisa. Cast a couple of heals on us and get back here in an hour or two. No time for the enemy to regain spells or call many reinforcements, we get everyone a character they can play and IF the devil is waiting there with a sword on Hetamon's throat... well, let her. I like a 'sod you' like that when done to the enemy.

Eirik cursed as he saw their enemy vanishing on the winds of magic. And they had been so close to victory, he felt.

"I don't want to leave when the battle is just beginning to turn to our favor, but perhaps we should take the moment and ask for help... we did at least stop this ritual and force the devil to spend a lot of magic to fight us. So let us make a tactical withdrawal and wait for additional hands and someone to carry our stricken friends to safety and then return to finish this once and for all."

Fabian Benavente wrote:

Sad to see Vandomir go but there are other days and other campaigns. May we meet again!

As to suggestions... let's see...

- we actually have a pretty balanced party role and skill wise. Two arcane casters (Caleb, Tillia), one healer (Noravia), two melee with good AC (Noravia, Eirik), at least two good sneaks (Caleb, Eirik)... not even counting all the NPC options.

- I don't see a huge need for an archer to take Vandomir's slot because of all the indoor/street battles; never a chance to shoot at enemies from extreme range

- we don't have a crazy dual-wielding sneak-attack rogue, but we could use one

- we also don't have a divine offensive caster not decked in plate... and I think one rarely gets to see one, ever

- we used to see a lot of undead enemies, but not for a while now... those might be in due for more screen time, thus having a full-on cleric could be useful

- druids are, of course, the not-so-secret Master Class of the game, but the city settings ruins their fun a lot

I'd vote for a clothie cleric with an offensive caster archetype (but not one that looses healing spells or Channel) or a melee rogue (unchained rules have a lot, lot of goodies for rogues)

Ves, now in fairy princess form once more, called weakly from Rizolla's arms. "Uh, Noravia. Any chance of getting some healing before she comes back?" even more quietly she asks again "What'd I miss?"

Stats

Caleb appeared out of nowhere to paw at Rizolla, desperately looking at Ves with uncomprehending animal eyes.

Rizolla kept holding onto Ves, startled by the wasp becoming a woman, and gave Caleb an ugly growl as he pawed her. She thought about letting him have it with lightning, she knew she could instinctively, but instead growled intimidatingly to make him back off as her draconic blood didn't like the man coming after her treasure.

Is everyone OK with Eirik's plan?

In summary:

- leave for now;
- Get Rizolla and Caleb back to safety;
- call a couple of PC/NPCs (Tillia and Hob?) so Harakani and Drogeney can play again;
- heal up Eirik and Noravia; and
- get back at it.

recall our old standing orders, last used at that Lucky Bones place, I think? Always have a team standing by outside to warn us if someone's following us into wherever we have gone, and to support as needed? So won't have to go too far to see a friendly face.

And don't forget our thiefling friend, who might need to be restrained in case she's still under evil influence.

Female Human Inquisitor(Infiltrator)/10

I'm ok with Eirik's plan. If ok with Fabian, I will put Elsbeth up to 9th level. Not so that she can play but to use her as a NPC to provide healing to Caleb. Maybe not Caleb and Rizolla but at least one. That way Tillia and Caleb can return with us.

Turn 435 – Tactical Withdrawal

Read the OOC.

Questions, comments, and/or suggestions?

Game on!

Female Human Inquisitor(Infiltrator)/10

Oops, I thought heal was 5th level, not 6th. I guess Caleb will have to decide if Hob wants to come out of his retirement.

Action 1:

Noravia reached out to gently touch Ves and let healing energy flow into Caleb's familiar. "That was very brave of you, Ves. You were the most effective against our invisible foe. We almost managed to do real harm to the demoness when she became visible again but then she left."

Forvian wrote:
“What happened? Where’s Hetamon? Who’s this woman?”

Noravia hesitated for a moment before saying, "We ran into some difficulty and decided it best to make a temporary tactical withdrawal. Hetamon is still inside as far as we know. I'm not sure who this woman is but maybe Tillia can get some information out of her. What I can tell you is that Hetamon's mother is not a delight."

Do we even know anyone who can help with divine magic that is a high enough level that isn't Hetamon? I'm not sure who we'd send for for help.

Stats

I have a concern that Hob and Tillia might clash a little - but perhaps not. Two Wizard party could be interesting. Getting there shouldn't be a problem if Hob has picked up Teleport. That would also give them a longer term way to get the afflicted out to somewhere where they can hire a cleric. Somewhere with a high level cleric who would be sympathetic would be good. Potentially they could take Eirik and go hit one of the Abadarian capitals within 900 miles. Best will in the world, though, that's a few days. At least.

When it comes to Wizards remember that Tillia is very narrowly focused, she specializes in enchantment and can't use anything from the necromancy/transmutation schools at all. For all intent and purposes those spells are not on her spell list. It gives plenty of room to work with.

That's true. I did build Hob to shadow Tillia; he's a necro-transmuter who can't cast enchantment.

He sighed, “Back to the Lucky Bones means a pretty long trek through the streets, with hellknights and worse milling about.” He looked at both handicapped casters, “Will they even listen and understand me?”

Where on the map were we anywhere? I forgot if we were told the exact location ;^)

"There's also the Tooth and Nail - Lictor Octavio's cousin might well allow us to lend a room for a time, if that makes the logistics simpler," Eirik said, trying to wring sewer water from the hem of his robe. "And I doubt they will understand - I don't know what befell them but they seem almost child-like, or like animals trapped in human form. But they do seem to remember their friends. I wouldn't try to walk them over - perhaps a wheelbarrow and some sacks of foodstuff for cover? Besides, even if Caleb and Rizolla behave, I wouldn't count on this litte lady playind nice," the monk said, glancing at the bound and gagged thiefling. "She seemed magically compelled, and I wouldn't wake her up here to see if the effect still persists or not."

Quote:
“While Forvian takes care of them, I can go get help if you want. Who do you want me to bring over here? And where will you be in the meantime?”

"Whoever is available and up to the task," Eirik said, looking back the way they had came from. "Our losses at least mean that the enemy has expanded much of her magic - we need to get back right away, before she has a chance to rest and recuperate. If any members of our little sojourn to Menador's Gap are around, those would be preferred - we know their mettle. As to where we shall wait... right by the tunnel, to make sure that no enemy reinforcements come in that way at least."

LOCATION
You guys are in J6 - The Silver Star; map in campaign tab.

HEALING
I was thinking of getting heal spell scrolls and having Elsbeth or another high-level cleric cast them but getting the scrolls will still take a couple of days.

NEW PCs
Tillia and Hob just came to mind but anyone of the members of the Silver Council will also do. We'll have to provide crunch for them but we can do that.

The list is as follows:
Rexus (probably not suitable for adventuring);
Laria (brawler);
Octavio (fighter/hellknight);
Lady Docur (rogue/sorcerer); and
Hetamon (currently unavailable).

Am I missing another significant NPC?

Angie: the above NPC could also be your PC if you're looking for ideas.

Hello all! Thanks for having me aboard. I've been reading the players guide a bit about Cheliax, and the other 4 main characters. I think I'm almost ready to start building my rebel.

I'm tempted to go rogue, or maybe slayer, but am concerned about just building another Vi. I am intrigued by Eirik's suggestion of a clothie cleric - I've never played one, or with one, and would like more info - what's the benefit? I'm also tempted to go polymorphing druid, even if we're in town. Don't know when/if I'd ever get a chance to play a high level druid.

Thoughts?

I'm not sure what a clothie cleric is but if you are thinking 'fighter-cleric', I would strongly consider a warpriest.

If full rogue would be too similar to VI then maybe a bard with some rogue skills would work.

There are a few ways to build a caster cleric, depends on what you want to go for. I've found the following guide to give some good information to work with.
Tark's Big Holy Book of Clericical Optimization
It only covers through APG but it is easy enough to expand from there.

To figure out what is wrong with Caleb and Rizolla

Noravia was very distracted by Caleb's current physical state and wasn't really listening to the discussion going on around her. She had a disturbing thought that this may be what Caleb would be like as a pet. He gravitated towards Noravia and stayed close to her, finding her presence comforting. Her stomach clenched with worry, not sure if what Hetamon's mother had done was reversible. As she absent-mindedly rubbed Caleb's back, she murmured a prayer to Milani that her goddess would provide healing for the man that she loved.

Finally she said, "I'd be hesitant to send off Caleb and Rizolla without us. But they're not safe with us in their current state either. Whatever is the safest option for getting them to one of the safe houses is what should be done. They probably won't understand you but they'll recognize you as an ally and should follow you to where you lead them."

Action 3:

Noravia nodded at monk's suggestion, "We definitely need reinforcements and Eirik's idea is sound. We can't abandon Hetamon and today is our best bet for settling this." Addressing the young woman from Forvian's team, Noravia gave her a list of things that they needed. "We need something to deal with invisibility - whether magical or mundane. We need a dedicated healer to look at Caleb and Rizolla to figure out how to fix them - Elsbeth should be able to help you with this. We need the reinforcements to come immediately. We need a scroll of protection from evil - preferably a communal one - to help protect us from whatever other nefarious spells she may have in her bag of tricks. Got it?"

Although Theologian didn't actually lose armour proficiencies... I think the build I recall used two archetypes at once, but can't find that particular post anywhere.

Or either Theosophist or Ascetic. Ascetic could even be taken with Theologian since they don't alter the same class abilities. I think that was the concept I was looking for.

I think I'm going to go with slayer. I've always wanted to play one. Just working on build now, which could take a while - going straight to level 9 will be challenging not to miss anything.

That will work nicely.

Have you started on a backstory?

I just 'set up' a potential 'slayer' in the last turn recap.

[b]One of Forvian’s men, a lithe girl still in her teens known for being very sneaky and very fast...[/i]

This unnamed person has been working with one of the 'teams' that are sort of second fiddle to the 'Raven Officers' and we could easily upgrade her to 'officer status'.

No need to take this hook but I thought I offer this up because of the similarities.

Sure, that sounds good. So she's been involved with what team, and for how long? I've got my plate full trying to figure out the rest of the character, that'll help give me a baseline to work with.

EDIT: what about gear? Is it straight up WPL?

The campaign started the 1st of September (Rova) and it currently is 19th of Kuthona (December) so let's say she joined middle of September and has been working for approx. 3 months. She's been providing 'sneaky' services to the Silver Ravens ever since she was recruited.

Figure out what she was (is?) before; something like daughter of peasant, merchant, noble (other?).

Standard WBL for 9th level or 46,000 gp.

If you get this girl statted up within the next day or two, we'll have her bring back the reinforcements and join in the 'demoness hunting party'. :)
