Shaking blood and minced flesh from his fists, the monk turned around to beheld yet another new kind of foe. The closer one was practically flowing up and over Rizolla in what had to be an attempt to engulf her.

At least the thing had been kind enough to come up within arm's reach, Eirik thought as he balled his fists once again and waded in, goblets of ooze flying as the monk battered his way deeper in, seeking some kind of a core that he might destroy to rid them of the enemy.

Still traveling, but here:

Vandomir felt like the proverbial carpenter without most of his tools. Because he was only left with several hammers, all problems looked like nails to him. "I guess, I should just use as much hammer as possible," he said as he laid into the creatures with his arrows.

"Seconded," Eirik grunted as he took off his dripping shirt to try an wring and shake some of the ooze off it. "If the lock won't surrender to Vandomir's tools then I can break it with my fists," he added.

The completionist in me screams go explore the hallway before tackling locked doors but then again, *I'm* not the one standing knee-deep in sewage ;^)

Female Human Inquisitor(Infiltrator)/10

Action 2:

Once Vandomir started working on the locked door, Noravia pulled out one of their new healing wands. She gave Caleb a sympathetic smile, "I was getting to it but you'll have to come to me. I still don't trust my footing down here.". After she heals the electrical burns on Caleb, she starts on the others. "Those lightning bolts weren't pleasant for any of us or so it seems."

Noravia was going to say something about being engaged to the healer has its perks but then couldnt remember if we actually told the others so I didnt. I'm thinking one charge per Rizolla, Vandomir, and Noravia. Possibly two charges for Caleb.

I thought I told you I was off at Gencon Wed-Sunday last week. Only got back late yesterday and started trying to get caught up. Since it seemed we were about ready for a recap I worried more about other games so I could slip back into this one afterwards. Still working on catching up on some games so I will get something up in a bit for this one.

Action 1
As the fighting came to an end Rizolla, oddly enough, came out relatively unharmed. The lightning didn't seem to have touched her even, only the jelly like creature had done her any real harm. She used a finger to flick a piece of the jelly off of her clothes and looked at the others, "I'm glad that is over with. So, shall we?"

As they entered the next room and found the tiefling woman Rizolla knew something was off. She looked at her closely as she tried to determine what it was and why the woman looked so familiar to her as she asked, "Who says we aren't welcomed here?"

Perception to look for mental control on Strea: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (17) + 11 = 28

Male Human Monk (unchained) 11

Perception: 1d20 + 20 ⇒ (1) + 20 = 21 Any chance to guess what kind of chanting? A mere mundane prayer or does the chant have the feel of a ritual?

Since you mentioned the vacant gaze I assume we can assume the woman is either tripping on something or under some influence for better or worse?

Eirik sneezed as the exotic smells ticked his nose, then frowned at the decor. A bedroom, moderately expensively decorated, in such a place? Clearly, this was no last-chance bolt hole. Perhaps they had stumbled into a base for some other organization that saw fit to avoid attention and the light of day? The monk noted the faint sounds of voices raised in chant coming from the far side of the door - clearly the woman was not here alone.

"I'm sorry to intrude, madam, but we are looking for something we have misplaced. Perhaps you and your friends beyond yonder door could help us with that? We'd be happy to leave once we have found what we lost." Eirik tried for words of reason, although the glassy-eyed look on the woman's face suggested she was not quite hale of mind.

Female Human Inquisitor(Infiltrator)/10

perception: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (9) + 15 = 24

Noravia could hear chanting coming from beyond this room. She strained her ears to see if she could tell what was being said. Often chanting suggested rituals and if Hetamon was down here, was he a willing participant? The glassy-eyed look of the tiefling made the inquisitor think that maybe there weren't any willing partakers.

"My friend speaks true. We didn't mean to intrude and we mean you no harm. We just really need to find what was lost."

Semse motive: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (5) + 14 = 19 Would this help to determine if the woman is being compelled?

Anyway. 5' step to get close, then flurrying for nonlethal damage. Might as well throw in a stun on the first attack, since the bloody thing is too useless to save for a truly deadly battle. Rend and bleed are real damage, as well as the lightling damage, but there's still plenty of temporal to ensure she shouldn't die by accident. Eirik will, of course, stop midway if for some reason she is weaker than expected and drops early.

As the thiefling woman moved to engage them Eirik followed suit, calling for his new magical boots to grant him a burst of speed. Where Asami had found these things Eirik once again had chosen not to inquire, but the things were certainly useful. He felt the outside world slowing down, to a degree more even when he was using his inner Ki to boost his speed and reflexes. Taking a blurringly quick step forward, Eirik launched into a spinning offensive, rotating in place and switching directions suddenly, occasionally lowering himself to a crouch to confuse his enemy, to hide the direction and height the next attack would be coming from. Still suspecting the woman might be victim of some sort of compulsion, Eirik chose to hold back and aim for disabling injuries instead of deadly blows.

An open palm strike struck the woman's left ear, staggering her, opening way for the first to her lower abdomen, followed by a circle kick that caught her in her ribs. The last strike of the combination was aimed at the dagger in her main hand, a knife-hand strike hitting her wrist in an effort to force her to let go of one of her daggers.

Rizolla recognized some kind of magical compulsion had to be in effect here and that the woman before them wasn't truly their enemy. She knew that they needed to take her alive and free her from whatever was making her do this and so said, "Take her alive, she's not under her own control. I can't break the control but Tillia probably can. Let me try this before you attack." She drew on the power in her blood as she said a few words and then gave an earsplitting roar of anger directed in the direction of Strea, one that would strike fear into the heartiest warrior.

I cast fear, DC 19 will leaves her shaken for 1 round instead of panicked/cowering for 8 rounds.

Since when is 'chanting' anything but evil in RPGs? :)

And no, you do not recognize the language.

I'm aware that chanting is never a good thing in RPGs but there are different evil things that involves chanting. She was just trying to narrow it down. Does knowledge, planes tell her if they're trying to summon something?

I love how Vandomir and Noravia magically changed places with each other last turn recap :)

Noravia gave up trying to figure out what the chanting was all about when she felt a wave of evil wash over her. Since no one seemed to know who this tiefling was and seeing that she had hurt Eirik, Noravia moved up to attack her with her morningstar.

Eirik winced in pain as the strike slipped pact his wall of parries and hit with deadly precision. Clearly, this was no foe to take lightly, although the monk still felt trying to take her alive was the best option. Were she compelled in truth, she was not to blame for attacking, and there would be a lot she could tell, once her controller's hold on her was broken.

Holding on further Disarm attempts 'till you comment on the rule quotes I found... but I admit it's silly not to add the hit penalty from consecutive attacks, so let's at least do that in future, even if the rules were silent on that.

Flurry, unarmed: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (6) + 15 = 21
Flurry, unarmed: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (10) + 10 = 20

AC is unknown, so I will assume only the first strike hits... enough to refresh Defensive Spin

Damage, unarmed, nonlethal: 1d10 + 1d6 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (5) + (3) + 1 + 1 = 10

Please add to Eirik's list of consumabled Boots of Speed 9/10

Hmm... went back and re-googled it. It's in the non-unchained monk's flurry description. Wonder if they omitted it because the other two quotes taken from under combat maneuvers were thought enough (can be used as part of full action by replacing one or more melee attacks in full attack) or if the unchained monk's flurry is supposed to work differently...

Yeah, I could not find it either in the unchained monk but I'm assuming it carries over.

However, there are some maneuvers (i.e., drag, grapple) that require a standard action. These you can only do one per round irregardless whether you have flurry of blows or not and whether you have iterative attacks or not.

The maneuvers that can done in place of a melee attack (i.e., sunder, trip) may be used as part of your flurry of blows or even more than once if your BAB is high enough.

Now... what are we going to do about your AC? It's gotten too high for a 9th level PC...

Action 1
With Strea down for the count Rizolla nodded in agreement with Noravia, "We shouldn't try to carry her around, make sure she is stable, restrain her, and then move on. We can come back for her before we leave." She gave the tiefling woman an appraising look, "Given the way she fights I would suggest that we make sure she has no hidden weapons or means of escape on her."

Did you remove the sneak attack damage or are we going with as things played out? I'm fine either way ;^) But please add those Boots to Eirik's consumables so I won't mess up the charge usage.

Also, medic? If we are interrupting a fell ritual, seems to me it'd be nice to go in at about full health.

Noravia wrote:
"Not that chanting is ever good but it sounds like a ritual to create an undead hag called a witchfire. It's probably something that we don't want them to complete."

"That certainly doesn't sound pleasant, no matter who the creature is meant to oppose. And if the same people are doing the summoning as forced this woman to attack us..." Eirik trailed off, pressing a bundle of cloth against his bleeding wound. "Either we allow the summons to be finished or we go in, and if we go, I suggest we waste no time; who knows how close to the finale the casters are. If someone would be so kind as to patch me up a bit I vote we go in and present our complaints to the people in charge over yonder," he added, gesturing at the door.

I assume we can ensure that while someone heals just enough of the true damage that she won't die, Eirik can apply enough nonlethal damage to keep her out for the time being?

Also... this Mestama isn't the same nasty deity the witches in our latest safe-house were sacrificing kids to, right?

Eirik:

We'll keep the sneak attack damage.

Yes, please switch out Defensive Spin.

Yes, I will add the boots of speed to 'daily powers' (next turn :)).

All:
Strea won't die if stabilized.

The current chanting is to Mestama, the demon lord and the Mother of Witches, which is different than who those changeling witches worshiped, which was MAHATHALLAH DOWAGER OF ILLUSIONS.

That being said, it's pretty safe to say that they hang out in the same bars and probably liked each other's Tinder's profiles. :)

Game on!

In that case, would you be OK with this one:

Quote:
Elbow Smash: The monk follows up a punch with a strike from his elbow. If the attack hits, the monk can make an additional attack using the same attack bonus as the punch at a –5 penalty. If this second attack hits, it deals damage as normal, but all of the damage is nonlethal. The monk must attack with a fist to use this style strike.
