Speaking in character, I would go 2 martials just to protect my sorry arse 8>)

I would say.

1 martial
1 skill
1 arcane
1 divine
2 others (GM choice)

A party of a skill, martial, divine, and arcane can really handle most everything, and that leaves 2 others that can join that can help out on which path you want the group to go down, or that would help out the story you want to tell.

The archetypal group of a wizard, fighter, rogue, and cleric is cliche because it works, for the most part.

So, I agree with Rodrick and jimibones. The other 2 should go to DM's choice for either interesting characters or party dynamics.

I think a good party of 6 would be.

Tank/melee 2
Damage support (ie glass cannon) 1
Buff/debuff 2 (at least one divine caster)
Wild card 1

I think there should be a good balance of skills between the roles so I don't necessarily believe that "Skilled" is its own category.

For example, we have a bunch of monk submissions. They can fulfill the melee role as well as do all the acrobatics, jumping, and perception/sense motive. The sorcerer can be a great buff/debuffer while also being the party face. One of the buffers should definitely be a divine caster though.

There is also the Rogue's unique trap-disarming ability to consider. That's difficult to replace. In addition, there's the cross-roles, like how magus can be built for melee and can also be a suitable buff/debuff dispenser, or how a monk can offer some skills and some martial. I personally prefer a party full of multi-purpose PCs so there's no single point of failure. You don't want to be all, "The cleric is down! Someone heal him! Er... rogue, UMD? Keep trying!" nor all, "The fighter is down! Wizard, use your FACE as a SHIELD!", etc, etc.

I know I am somewhat behind but I am currently sorting out my character submission. Mainly as I honestly couldn't think of what to generate for the most part.

That made me laugh. Picturing a wizard using his face as a shield.

Right, that's it more or less done. I still need to sort out my equipment fully but I'll probably work on that if I get accepted since I have about 2.5k to spend on items that would benefit the party and myself beyond the basic kit.

Have given the 'brawler' archetype a go with the Captain Andoran build. It's very interesting, I must admit.

Still...looking forwards to role playing with every one and if I shouldn't make the list, wishing every one much fun and adventure. Fight the good fight! (^_^)

Glad to see you give Brawler a shot. It's one of the stronger fighter archetypes if you happen to be using weapons in that group.
But I still think I could take you.
