Says the hammer of Gertrart.

Grymp |

@Gertrart -
Slate responds to your queries, "well, your strength is well enough, and your knowledge of the art is well enough also, but I suppose I might be judging you overly harsh. I mean, you are just a human, after all, and lack the "taste" for the metal, or the stone, if that makes sense to you? So, really, you're a fine practitioner, by human standards. Remind me when we go back tonight, I may have a book or two that could help you in the craft, if you'd be wanting to do some reading?"
@Gertrart -
"Mad Martin? No, I've not met him, but have seen him. He stays up in the rookery nearly always, except for meals and church, with the door locked tight, and only hisself and the Commander having the key. I don't see as we'd be able to eat up there, although you'd probably be right that the view was grand from up there."
I can confirm then for you that 43 is definitely the Rookery. You also get to go into area 33 a bit. Do a bit of fixing/lubricating, etc. of the 2 ballistae there. You see lots of ammo for them, and some "stone droppers" which are fairly simple machines designed to defend the gate.

Malleck will try and find the knight Zack. Have a bit of a talk perhaps

Day 4
I gave Gertrart a bunch of Day 4 feedback.
Bapho is checking on the lovers:
Random: 1d100 ⇒ 80 Criminy! Nope, they are not together today.
@Malleck - Captain Zack is usually on duty from 8AM to 4PM, so a tough man to get to during the day.
@All - Aldencross has a base value of 1500 gp, so 75% of all items of that value, or below are available. Name some items, and I can roll for them.
@All - Aldencross also has 3d4 minor items and 1d6 medium items, so let's find out what those are right now:
Minor Items: 3d4 ⇒ (4, 2, 1) = 7
Medium Items: 1d6 ⇒ 1
Ok, so 7 Minor items, using the CRB distribution charts (with a bit of the UE stuff):
Minor Items: 7d100 ⇒ (26, 88, 94, 74, 33, 6, 39) = 360 Potion, Wand, Wondrous, Scroll, Potion, Weapon, Potion
1 Medium Item:
Medium Item: 1d100 ⇒ 66 Staff
Now, what are the 3 Minor Potions
Potion 1: 3d100 ⇒ (52, 91, 45) = 188 1/1, Uncommon, Hide from undead
Potion 2: 3d100 ⇒ (66, 65, 79) = 210 2/3, Uncommon, Slipstream
Potion 3: 3d100 ⇒ (62, 1, 63) = 126 2/3, Common, Levitate
Now for the Scroll:
Scroll: 3d100 ⇒ (12, 35, 77) = 124 1/1, Common Arcane, Shield
Now for the Wand:
Wand: 3d100 ⇒ (27, 47, 79) = 153 1/1, Common, Ray of enfeeblement
Now for the Weapon:
Weapon: 2d100 ⇒ (60, 83) = 143 +1, Hmm, the table is empty for 83 in UE. So what type of weapon would you guys want it to be?
As for the Staff, let me see how to do this:
Staff: 2d100 ⇒ (53, 26) = 79 Greater Medium, Staff of Belittling
Oops, I missed the Wondrous Item!
Wondrous: 3d100 ⇒ (19, 77, 47) = 143 Eyes, Greater minor, Treasure hunter's goggles
Now wasn't that fun?
Ok, so I believe we have:
Potions of Hide from undead, Slipstream, and Levitate
Scroll of Shield
Wand of Ray of enfeeblement
A +1 weapon
Staff of Belittling
Treasure hunter's goggles

False Gertrart |

sorry a post this morning got dumped.
A cocky youth barely old enough to be on his own, tracks down the seller of a particular item. "Ye Merrie Men are coming to town and when they leave I will be with them. If it is true you have what I seek I will give you all my inheritance. My abilities are good, everyone I know says so. With that simple trick, William Marcus Marlowe will not be able to no to my joining his troop and I will make my inheritance back within the year!"
wand of silent image. Loot tracker looks out of date. If there is enough for a hold portal I will spring for that as well.

Gertrart aka Blood Desecrator |

So it might be risky, but it looks like I will have a chance to do some sabatoging while we wait for the lovers to convene.
Others of the Knot should let me know if they think this is a bad idea to do this much this soon. (Actually it would be nice to know if others of the Knot are still with me. ;)
Gertart moves up to the gears and thins a rope here, lodges a bolt there, loosens a screw somewhere else. Using his newly purchased wand to hide the changes as they happen or his presence where it shouldn't be.
Day 4 (3?) KN (engineering) to sabotage catapult on tower: 1d20 + 1d6 + 5 ⇒ (6) + (4) + 5 = 15
Day 5 (4?) KN (engineering) to sabotage portcullis: 1d20 + 1d6 + 5 ⇒ (14) + (5) + 5 = 24
Day 6 (5?) KN (engineering) to sabotage catapults on gatehouse: 1d20 + 1d6 + 5 ⇒ (7) + (4) + 5 = 16
Day 7 (6?) KN (engineering) to sabotage drawbridge: 1d20 + 1d6 + 5 ⇒ (10) + (1) + 5 = 16
If necessary I will sneak into the tower at night to accomplish what I think my disguise won't let me. Let me know if you would like stealth (+7) checks & all that.
EDIT: here's hoping for a low DC :)

Grymp |

Jumping forward to Day 8 to kickstart this thing!
Day 8 is a Tuesday, so the morning after soup night for this week.
Taeral has spent a couple days speaking with some local clergy about his doubts and inadequacies as a follower of Mitra. The locals have determined he was a hard case, and so he has met a couple acolytes from up at the keep now too, and they have discussed the possibility of bringing him up to meet the head priest.
Two other things of note occur on Day 8.
1) The Rangers go back on patrol, so they will camp again, presumably on the evening of Day 10.
2) The lovers get together, as reported to you by your trusty spybot. Shortly after 5PM Captain Zack arrives at the Mott house out in town, and the two get right to it pretty quickly.
Alright, so let's go!

-Mordecai- |

"My familiar informs events are about to unfold at Mott's house. Would anyone of you gentlemen care to join to settle this issue. May I suggest one of you brawnier types take the guise of Captain Mott, so in case of eyewitnesses they have someone to accuse."
With that, Mordecai himself uses the circlet to take the guise of a nondescript guardsman, and heads to the house. assuming others follow, of course

Gertrart aka Blood Desecrator |

Considering a lone attack on the cardinal nondescript guard Gertrart gladly follws the tiefling instead.

Malleck of Alerion |

"If things are gping to happen there, why dont we just get the captain to witness it?"
-Posted with Wayfinder

Taeral |

"I agree, get the captain to witness it for himself."
Taeral will follow with them in whatever plan they decide upon.
Sorry, for whatever reason, this game was not showing any new posts for me. Everything seems to be fixed now.

False Gertrart |

Gertrart will make an appropriate disguise and convince the captain there is an emergency at his place.
"Come quickly sir! It's an emergency! You're lady sir.... Come!"
I think the bard or sorcerer are better suited to making a bluff check, but I will if you want me to (+8).

Grymp |

Alrighty then, so Gertrart and Xeram go to the keep, inform the guards that there is an urgent matter regarding his wife that Captain Mott needs to be informed of.
Captain Mott is summoned to the door of the keep and hears your impassioned plea. Captain Mott is a gruff and humorless man, masculine, but unattractive. It is easy to see why people question how he landed such a beautiful woman as Kaitlyn.
The Captain seems very concerned, "what is it? Is Kaitlyn ok?" He turns to another guard, "send for Captain Barhold, and inform him that I am off to handle an emergency."
With that, Captain Mott looks at Gertrart and Xeram, "lead on, there is no time to waste."
Presumably the two follow Captain Mott back to his place where...
They arrive. Off to the side they see that Mordecai, Malleck, and Taeral are keeping watch on the place unobtrusively.
Captain Mott throws open the door to the small cottage and bellows, "Kaitlyn, where are you? Are you ok?" He heads towards the back of the house, out of your view, but you can then hear loud male voices screaming at one another, and a woman's voice screeching at the two to stop. Soon thereafter, Captain Eddarly, comes out from the back room, with a bloody nose and the start of a good shiner, carrying much of his gear as he tries to put on his boots as he runs. From behind him, you hear Mott's voice, "two hours after dawn you scoundrel, you know the place."
Shortly after, a redfaced Captain Mott comes out and looks at Gertrart and Xeram. "You could have warned me what I was to find, but I thank you for the information nonetheless. Your names gentlemen? So that I might inform my second as to the distribution of my goods, should things not go my way in the morning?"

Xeram |

A sadistically satisfied grin shows on Xeram's hooded face.
Ah yes, manipulation and misdirection are such lovely tools. Brings back memories.
As the captain asked for their names, Xeram quickly replies.
"I am brother Statham, sir captain. Be not considering that possibility, Mitra will bless the righteous, you should prevail."

False Gertrart |

"Tergart, sir. But surely you are in the right and have no need." He looks aside as if to make sure no-one is looking and whispers, "Given the nature of the incident sir, I thought it best to employ discretion where others might hear."

Malleck of Alerion |

Staying out of this. Simply watching. He did not wish to be accidently discovered. He grins. Atleast 1 more down. One less to recognise him and who he use to be
-Posted with Wayfinder

Grymp |

We all set to jump forward to the next morning then? It seems you've done what you needed to do here!

Gertrart aka Blood Desecrator |

Aye.

Grymp |

At around 10AM the next morning, a grim faced soldier arrives at the Lord's Dalliance seeking Brother Statham and Tergart. After a bit of confusion, it is determined just who is meant, and the two of you come to the common room to meet with the soldier.
"It is my unfortunate duty to inform you that in conformity with the last request of Captain Franz Mott, that you be presented with his arms and armor. As this was an affair of honor, his wife has no claims upon the equipment, and it is yours free and clear. If you will accompany me outside, I will provide you with his things, and you can do with them as you please."
The young soldier turns and goes out to the street, where you find a mule with the Captain's equipment, some of it rather bloodied, tied down to the back of the creature.
The guardsman continues, "Captain Mott owned, one halberd, one longsword, one longbow, one dagger, and one suit of armor." As he lists each item off, he pulls it from the back of the mule and either hands it to you, or places it at your feet.
He pauses briefly, "I should inform you that Captain Mott fought bravely, but he was not able to prevail against Captain Eddarly. Additionally, he being responsible for the death of a Captain of the Guard, and dueling being illegal, Captain Eddarly is under arrest, and I expect will likely be hanged himself, or worse. As for the woman, may Mitra forsake her in all that she does."
With that, the guardsman takes the reins of the mule and heads off, his mission complete.
As for the gear...
The halberd and full plate are MW.
The longbow is composite (+4 STR).
The longsword and dagger are nothing special.
Detect Magic reveals the halberd to be magic.

Gertrart aka Blood Desecrator |

"Dang I thought the mule looked handy!" Gertart/Tergart salutes the soldier, "Thank you."
Actually that is directed to Mallek who's idea was to get the two together, and to Xeram for the convincing bluff. It's a two-fer! well done :)
spellcraft: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (1) + 12 = 13
Composite longbow would be good for me (Str > Dex), but others might benefit more.

Malleck of Alerion |

no dex. But have +4str. I do believe i have armor allready. We can sell it. 900gp is a lot of gold at this point. And i still need to buy my stuff. Also. Will try to split our departed ratfolk's gp accordingly
Malleck grins and gives his companion a nod
-Posted with Wayfinder

Xeram |

"A tragic outcome. In that case we'll be sure these items will be used for nobler purposes. Mitra's peace be with you."
Yuck...
When amongst the others, Xeram's satisfied grin clearly shows.
"I trust the martial ones can make use of these quality items.
It still should show to prove, but with 2 captains gone, the city guards 'should' be less organized in their times of need."

Malleck of Alerion |

"Should. But 2 is not enough. We have wasted a lot of time just for 2. We need to work faster"
He frowned. "Now. We need to infiltrate the keep, since we still not sure what exactly is going on in there. Suggestions?"
-Posted with Wayfinder

Taeral |

How many dwarven engineers/smiths are there, I forget? Maybe we can slay them at some point?
We need to be out in the woods on day 10, for the ambush of the patrol and Captain Varning.
Still need some kind of interaction with Lord Havelyn, Tacitus and Father Donnagin.
When are Ye Merrie Men due to arrive in Aldencross/Watchtower?
Does Gartrat feel the various defenses are neutralized?

Gertrart aka Blood Desecrator |

Gertrart rolls his eyes. "I've been as busy as I can. I can get us in the keep tonight if you want Malleck. We can hit someone & leave for the ambush by dawn." To taeral he says. "I do."
it just says 'pack of dwarves' I think a pack is 9, but it might be half that number for dwarves. ;) . after a week working with them, I am confident G knows the number. & they are in the same in as us.

Grymp |

@Taeral - There are 11 total dwarves. Barnabus, the leader, and 10 more.
@Taeral - Ye Merrie Men are not due to arrive and perform until maybe the 22nd day.
@Taeral - Gertrart believes he has done rather will at the various instruments he tried to sabotage. However, last night when the keep went to close up the drawbridge and the portcullis, they were found to be inoperable, so the dwarves are currently working to fix them. There is no indication that sabotage is suspected.

Taeral |

@Grymp: that is an interesting situation on the drawbridge/portcullis. Is there any word on if that resulted in additional guards being assigned to patrol the walls or any other affect of the sabotage?

Grymp |

@Taeral - No, he was shrewd enough to disable them in a fashion that did not point towards sabotage, so no suspicion was aroused, seemingly.

Vosil Comarenza |

Hi guys, sorry for the long lay-off, trying to DM this module and play in it is a complete head-screw!
Vosil looks approvingly as they consider the results of their work. "Very good, two captains down, morale decreased. So - there are some officers remaining, one wizard, and that priest Taeral is trying to get to; and a troop of common soldiers plus a handful of dwarves. Who do we hit next?"

Malleck of Alerion |

"I say the idea to poison the inhabbitants we leave till we are sure we want the invasion to happen. The keep's head we wait to last too. After all the other threats have been handled. That said. We need to do the ambush 5 days before the attack. So them going missing wont be noticed. So. Rookery. The priest and what ever else is left. The dwarves perhaps?"
-Posted with Wayfinder

Xeram |

Tearal's not the only one who had been trying to get to the priest. Grymp already told he's got several aides for his daily duties. ;).
"Malleck and Shade are capable against the soldiers, moreso if they grow in power.
I propose we dispose of their arcane or religious support. Striking down or incriminating either is a blow to morale among both troops and the city folk, not to mention a source of arcane or divine power less to oppose the bugbear army."

Taeral |

"I suggest the Wizard, who has been working on something in this room in the tower, or take care of the Rookery and Mad Martin. The Captain and his patrol, should betaken care of tomorrow as they would not be scheduled to be back until the 12th or 13th. We just need to make sure thier camp does not look like it was the sign of the attack, as we need them to send out a search party."
"Maybe Xeram can summon some kind of creatures to eat the dead patrol members, after the ambush."

Gertrart aka Blood Desecrator |

"Taciturn is a wizard? Let's sneak into his tower and kill him tonight. Do you want me to do it? I would like to see what he(was) uncovered in the north."
It looks like the wizard is the choice for right now, I propose Taeral or Xeram make the decision as to how (two others are GMing this adventure and have ooc knowledge. Please step in to avoid the door fiasco.) Is the plan to kill him or investigate him.
If the day (day 9) is not busy doing that, Gertart will work with the dwarves to repair the drawbridge. By working with I mean subtly undermining their efforts & delaying the process. Maybe I can find a way to drop the bridge on two or three of them? Or get one to accidentally fall to the river below? If not, he will get one of them alone, and make sure there is a place to hide the body. He will not try a full sabotage of the bridge until closer to deadline, so it is not discovered so quickly. tasks #8 & #15 are both rookery, and there is no task number for dealing with the dwarves, so I am renaming that as 15.
"Will the rookery have a lot of eggs? he asks the others. "If so maybe we can let the soldiers keep the braziers hot, and just make sure the sand is too thick to pour through a murder hole?" Unless there is a mixture for concrete that uses heat.
Gertart will use Solomon's masterwork thieves tools.
"Oh, one last thing," says the half-orc. "I have completed a fairly accurate count of the guards." I remember GM saying so, but now I can't find the number. Even if not I have been counting for nearly a week and should be pretty close. So will make up a number: 1d6d6 ⇒ (6, 4, 6, 1, 3) = 20 <-- that is much more amusing if you see the coding :)

Grymp |

@Gertrart - the Magister is called "Tacitus of Morimun"
@Gertrart - there are 100 guards, 4 captains (2 now), 1 Lord (Thomas Havelyn), 1 Magister, 1+10 Dwarves, 1 Priest, 5 Acolytes, 1 Rookery dude
Did I miss anything?

Gertrart aka Blood Desecrator |

Not you. I think we've lost more than Solomon. I am away from computer most Mondays.
Gertrart shall use disguise, stealth and illusion to get to get to Taciturn's chambers. Any of the Knot who would like to accompany him will get his aid in similar fashion.
stlth: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24
dsg: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (5) + 15 = 20
he had attuned his [/i]silent image [/i] wand if he needs to look like an empty wall or a closed door, etc..

Xeram |

*Ears ring from the speakers*----@.@.....yes it's on.
Xeram will attend the priest's mass, he knows the priest to have aides. He'll try to find weak spots in his routine and habits, as well as share some false rumors to plant seeds of mistrust among the aides, thus hoping to create weaknesses in the priest's efficiency on the city folk.
Bluff: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (8) + 10 = 18

-Mordecai- |

Mordecai does not have much in the way of stealth, but the headband offers a pretty good disguise.. But anyway, he'll join. Could Gertart scout ahead and confirm if the route is clear? I recall Shade lives true to her name, and is pretty good going unnoticed... Any wizard worth his salt would also have some magical alarms/defences

Gertrart aka Blood Desecrator |

like this maybe? :)
Rumors heard by Vosil
I’ve heard that Father Donnagin was sent here after the church demoted him from bishop. He got into some sort of trouble – serious trouble I’d wager to be banished to the Watch Wall.
