Sorry about the delay, Campaigns page didn't update this game! GM, I don't know if you'll allow a Charge from Damien's current position, so I will post both options here.
"Get back here, you lil' bastard!" Damien calls after the strange creature. Ruby pounces ahead in a blur of silvery white fur.
Lance, spirited charge: 1d20 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 6 + 2 = 103d6 + 12 ⇒ (3, 5, 6) + 12 = 26
Earthbreaker: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 191d10 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11
Ruby, bite: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 111d6 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6 Add +2 to attack if charging

The Pathfinders have no intention of allowing the strange, smelly creature get away as Annilda moves to cut off its escape...
AoO, Dagger: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12 Miss.
...easily evading the swipe of its dagger! It however cannot evade Lucina's ectoplasmic ball as the gooey mass splashes over it!
Reflex save DC 15: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24 Saved, not glued to floor; Entangled for 1 round.
While Damien and Uriel finish the job of surrounding the creature, Lady Mae sees she can see through the darkness and she sees a room that served as a diaconicon, filled with religious carvings depicting the judgment of souls covering the walls of this room. A stone pedestal with a bowl-shaped depression on top stands in the northwest corner. Wooden cabinets and chests of drawers line the walls.
Meanwhile, the creature stabs out at Annilda even as it shrinks away from Uriel...The creature is Shaken for 2 rounds.
Dagger vs Annilda, entangled, shaken: 1d20 + 6 - 2 - 2 ⇒ (17) + 6 - 2 - 2 = 19 Hit for 1d3 ⇒ 3 damage.
...scratching her side! While the blade merely scratched her skin she does feel the wound burning...glancing down she sees the wound smeared in a black substance and realizing the blade must have been poisoned! Annilda needs to make a Fort save or take 1d2 ⇒ 1 STR damage.

"Poison? How droll."
Flanking with Uriel, she snaps her feet at the creature's head twice.

"I just hope we can actually get some information from him...er...her? It?" Lucina remarks, hurrying forward a few paces as she draws her longspear, ready to give the creature a good smack with it if she has to.
______________
Lucina draws her longspear and moves up~

![]() |

Noticing no more creatures in the room, Mae hops quickly towards the fray to hopefully box in the creature. She grips her shield tightly and has her dagger in hand. "Hello? Do you understand us?" She moves past it, exposing herself to a possible attack.
Sunny follows as fast as she can but can't quite get there.
Both double move, Mae provokes if it has any more aoos.

Use Lucky Presence
"Annilduh, you okay? Let me try ta smash this thing again." Damien drops the lance, pulls out the earthbreaker and attempts to whack-a-mole the enemy.
Earthbreaker: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 131d10 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
Earthbreaker: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 91d10 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6

1 person marked this as a favorite. |

"I would have preferred to finally have a chance to speak to someone, anyone, in this arse-crack of Pharasma. Just because your usual tactics are 'fight to the death' doesn't mean your meaningless little life has to end that way." Uriel sighs. "Have it your way."
Bastard Sword, Flank; Damage: 1d20 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 5 + 2 = 131d10 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5

![]() |

While you manage to surround the creature fairly easily, striking it proves harder than you imagined as only Annilda is able to land a punch here.
As Lucina's ectoplasmic goo fades away, the creature glances up at you in a terrified way as it speaks again in its strange language...
Concentration check DC 17, shaken: 1d20 + 3 - 2 ⇒ (20) + 3 - 2 = 21 Success.
...and soon you all find yourselves enveloped in darkness once again! The darkness does not last long as you see the light from your Wayfinders return, as the field of darkness moves away from you! Lady Mae has no trouble tracking its movements, thankfully!
The creature uses a Partial Withdrawal action here, which provokes an AoO only from Lady Mae due to her darkvision.

"Alright, fine! Eat acid!" Lucina growls angrily as she launches a small orb of acid into the looming darkness...
Miss %: 1d100 ⇒ 90
Acid Splash (Ranged Touch): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
Damage: 1d3 ⇒ 1
...and then dashes up the hallway after it.

Annilda sighs and then double moves to the end of the corridor. This probably provokes again.
"Really? Not a single word? Just drop what you were doing and flee?"

AOO Mithril Dagger: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 221d3 - 1 ⇒ (2) - 1 = 1
Crit? Mithril Dagger: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 221d3 - 1 ⇒ (3) - 1 = 2
She hollers at Sunny and then heads down the hallway to try to stop the creature with a dagger in the back.
Mithril Dagger: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 51d3 - 1 ⇒ (1) - 1 = 0
Sunny slides down the hall towards her bestie and the target. Double Move

![]() |

"Um, guys? Where did he go?" Damien scratches his head, moving towards the edge of the darkness.

![]() |

Lady Mae slashes the creature as it moves away from her, though her followup blow misses. Uriel stands ready for the creature's (unlikely) return, while Damien moves closer to the action.
Lucina's acid glob flies wide right while Annilda rushes past it once again...
AoO, Dagger: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21 Hit for 1d3 ⇒ 3. Annilda needs a Fort save or takes 1d2 ⇒ 1 STR damage
The creature feels no need to stick around as it again flees from you. Withdraw action.

Fort Save: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12
"I can't hit what I can't see." She shrugs and wipes away more of the poison. "And it doesn't seem in the mood to speak. I say we let it go, I'm getting bored and injured."
That darkness spell renders me pretty useless here. Does anyone actually want to kill this?

![]() |

Mae stops and blinks as the creature makes no attempt to speak, nor assault them. She lets it flee. "Oh well, maybe it thought we were the predators." She calls off Sunny and slides her dagger back in its sheath.

![]() |

"This is too much trouble," Lucina sighs, giving up the chase. "Hopefully there aren't anymore lurking around though...that darkness trick is dangerous even with just the one!"
She turns her attention back towards the room the creature had emerged from. "Shall we? Once the darkness wears off, I mean."

![]() |

"You, Lucina, are genius. Lead on, sorcerer."
Uriel grumbles under his breath, "In my report, I will refer to this forsaken temple basement as the 'Labyrinth of the Pharasmin Red Herring'."

![]() |

"Well okay, if I can't see it, I can't smash it anyway..." Damien lowers his hammer. Though Ruby can still smell the creature from where she is, it's not enough for the halfling to wander into darkness.

![]() |

"I can see in the darkness. Can't you?" These people would not survive in the jungles. T-Rex food the lot of them. Mae heads back to check out the room even in the darkness, calling out interesting things she sees until the darkness ends.
Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11

![]() |

Deciding the creature is no longer a threat to you, you give up your pursuit of it, and hear it silently move away from you to parts unknown. Annilda feels the poison coursing through her veins however...
Annilda, I need another Fort save DC 15 to stop the STR damage.
OUT of INITIATIVE.
Turning your attention back to where the creature was hiding out you are thankful the darkness is gone. Looking further you see this chamber was the diaconicon for the Grand Cathedral, a room where priests prepared for services. The cabinets and chests contain ancient Pharasmin religious vestments, hangings, altar cloths, and holy books, all kept in extraordinary condition by the ossuary’s preservative magics. The basin atop the stone pedestal used to hold holy water, but it evaporated long ago.
While not much here is valuable you do find a cloak that radiates a magical aura hangs in a cabinet of mundane priestly vestments, and two scrolls (of delay poison) may be found among the religious texts.

Mae looks at Annilda and croaks a bit "You do not look healthy. You are nearly as green as I am. I can help some at least." She takes out her healing stick and gives her a boost.
CLW Wand: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9

"Thank you, Mae." She clutches her arm as it goes numb from the poison. She inhales deeply...
Fort Save: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19
And fends off the worst of its effects. "Thank you, Calistria." She sighs. "Sometimes I feel like this entire level is designed to waste our time and resources." She glances at the two scrolls. "Of course, the way to prevent poison is found AFTER it takes a hold."

![]() |

Spellcraft (DC 20): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10
"Yep, that's a pretty cloak. Really pretty. Sure wish I could figure out what it does," Lucina sighs, unable to determine the cloak's enchantment. Her eye twitches slightly.

![]() |

"Sorry, I lack the skill to identify the cloak's properties." Uriel apologizes. "I can use the scrolls of delay poison, though. Would someone else prefer to hang onto them?"

![]() |

"I'm good; I never could get the hang of curative magics for some reason," Lucina remarks with a wave of her hand. She frowns as she looks around the room, thinking about the strange little creature that had emerged from it. "You know, if this place is supposed to connect with places even deeper underneath the city, I wonder where it connects? Besides that hole we found, I mean. Because I'm pretty sure at least some of the critters we've tangled with weren't left here as guardians, not like that necrophidius."

![]() |

Mae nods at Annilda then puts away the healing stick. "I too can use those scrolls. Maybe we can each take one just in case one becomes a meal before the other."
Speaking of a meal, Mae's tongue lashes out and snags up a small beetle that tries to scurry out of the room. A few crunches later and a slight smile crosses her face. "Beetles are nice and crunchy, but often a bit bitter. This one was no different."
As Lucina seems to be having eye problems, Mae interjects "Your eye must be dry to be twitching like that. I just lick mine often. I could help you if you like?"

![]() |

"Excellent idea, Lady Mae." Uriel pockets one of the scrolls and hands the other to the grippli swamp druid.

![]() |

Annilda seems horrified as Uriel talks about licking eyeballs, but calms down once he hands her the scroll.
"Well, where to next? Is this another door?" She walks up to the wall.

![]() |

"Why, I believe it is, Annilda. Let's have a look." Uriel examines at the door.
Percpetion: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15

![]() |

"I'm not sure I've mentioned this, but one of the nice things of the jungle are the lack of doors. And lightning traps. And the presence of the sun and sky..." She pockets the scroll and moves along.

![]() |

"Yep, the jungle sounds kinda nice right about now."

![]() |

"Um, n-no, I'm good, thanks," Lucina quickly replies before she's met with an eyeful of grippli tongue. "I'll just uh...drip some water in there or something if it keeps bothering me."
As she turns to follow Annilda and Uriel to the next waiting door, Lucina can't help but remember how 'eyeball licker' used to be quite the insult during her childhood.
Never thought I'd actually be traveling with one...
Perception (Door): 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 12

![]() |

Turning your attention to the door you see it is neither locked nor trapped. This room was the Grand Cathedral’s prothesis, where the sacred vessels and altar services of the church were kept. The theme of judgment in the afterlife is continued in the carvings on the walls of this room. A wide table stands along the north wall, draped with a heavy black cloth. A single candle burns in a tall, iron candlestick in the southwest corner, but the rest of the room is cloaked in shadows.
As you file into the room intent upon exploring it further, a soft sibilant voice hisses from underneath the table, "Greetingsssss, explorersssss. I am Yrixan, a wisssse and humble oracle who can draw back the veil of myssssstery that cloaks the Godsmouth Ossssssuary, and reveal all the sssssecrets of the Ancientsssss. I would be willing to....bargain with you for knowledge of these sssssecrets.”

Role-playing encounter...in a dungeon?? What is this world coming to =)

![]() |

"So whattaya lookin' for then, Yericksan? I'm all outta snacks, sorry."

![]() |

Lucina almost jumps out of her skin as something finally speaks to them and she looks around nervously, before her eyes finally settle on the table where the sound seems to be coming from.
"Greetings," she responds, hesitantly. "Not to be rude but who are you to be able to know so much about this place?"

![]() |

"Yrixan, we're here to remove the pestilence of undead from this Pharasmin holy place. Anything you can tell to speed up that process would be really swell."
Uriel peeks under the table, looking for the source of the whisper-lisper. Then the aasimar casts an orison, seeking magical auras within the chamber, starting with the area around the table.
Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23
Detect magic

![]() |

"Ahhh yesssss, the multitudes of restlessssss spirits that plague this reverent Ossssssuary where the Pharasm priests once laid their souls to rest. It isssss a worthy caussssse to cleansssse this place of these evil ssssspirits!" Yrixan replies in a reverent tone. "I bear the burdens of a mystic, with powerssssss of prophecy and great knowledge of the secretsssss of the Undercity. I have explored every place on this Osssssuary and have learned much of its sssssecrets!"
As Uriel peers under the table he catches a glimpse of a small head with serpent’s fangs sitting atop the sinuous black body of a greasy-scaled snake.
The aasamir also finds an item radiating a faint aura under the table next to the 'serpent'.

![]() |

Sense Motive: 1d20 ⇒ 3
Lucina listens to the strange voice, feeling uneasy. While the thought of potentially learning a great deal more about the Ossuary was tempting...she had a feeling that such information wouldn't come cheap - even if the creature was being truthful.

![]() |

Uriel smiles at the creature, "No offense, but your appearance is a little unnerving."
The paladin takes a step away from the table, and uses his detect evil ability to determine if the serpent-thing is evil.

![]() |

"So, what is the price?" Annilda, ever cynical pipes up.
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
This entire room is making Annilda uneasy, even though it's the first clue they've had (that didn't try to run away and poison her, anyway)

![]() |

Mae too peeks under the table, curious of what this talking snake really is. K Nature?: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (15) + 7 = 22
"Hello. I am Mae. How do you survive in this place? There is no food. Well, almost no food." She watches a cockroach skitter away and quickly heads after it.

![]() |

Uriel is puzzled; normally it only takes a second or two to determine if a creature is evil, if he's concentrating on it.
The paladin sits down, cross-legged, and tries to get comfortable as he gazes at the 'snake', concentrating as long as it takes to determine if it's evil.
What sort of creature can overcome, or at least delay, a paladin's ability to determine if it's evil? Uriel wonders.

![]() |

"Anybody want this evil snake to read their palms, knock yourself out," Uriel says as he stands back up, back stiff and knees creaking. "Not sure Lord Ragathiel would approve of Yrixan's payment plan. I'll wait and get a fortune cookie from Mo Pho, my favorite Tian soup kitchen."
A shame, too. Lots of questions about this place, and some answers would help. But can't go making his Empyreal Lordship cranky. Can't afford an atonement, and I don't see the priests upstairs covering the expense... The paladin bemoans the challenges of sticking to a code.

![]() |

Lucina's expression settles into something between resignation and grimness as Uriel elaborates on the snake creature's less-than-shining nature. "Let me guess then...in exchange for information you want free of this place when we leave, right?"
What else *could* this thing want?

![]() |

"Dunno 'bout you guys, but negotiatin' with a snake is kinda weird. C'mon snake, tell us what else is in this place if ya know it so well, or I'll skewer ya and serve snake steak for dinner." Damien jabs his lance into the air threateningly.

![]() |

"Okay, so I guess he's not going to tell us what he wants until we agree to some sort of agreement," Lucina huffs. "In that case, I'm with Uriel - let's go. I'm not agreeing to anything without knowing all the terms, first!"
