It doesn't take more than a cursory look to see someone, or something, dug INTO the Ossuary and not tried digging out. The tunnel is cramped for a humanoid, but can be traversed.
As you all take positions around the door Uriel tries opening it...only to discover it has been barred from the inside...
I need a STR check to force open the door. Up to two PCs can make the attempt here.
Damien Marx
|
"Outta my way, unless that holy water of yers can dissolve doors," Damien tilts his head down at Uriel's pants. "C'mon Ruby, charge at the blasted thing!"
STR: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 3 = 17
Lucina Haventhorne
|
"Oh...something dug its way in, then," Lucina remarks after a slightly closer inspection of the tunnel. "Uh...still though, maybe we'd better save checking that one out until we've got no other options."
As Damien turns his attention to forcing the nearby door, she makes sure to stand clear - this isn't really a job for her.
Annilda Soncir
|
"Dug its way in? These tunnels are unguarded. A necromancer would find this an excellent opportunity to gather resources." She feels her arms and sneers. "The poison weakens me. Uriel, can you push the door down?"
DM Eric
|
It turns out Uriel's help is not needed to force the weakly barricaded door open...revealing biers of solid gold encrusted with glittering gems lying against the walls of this chamber. Golden candelabras stand nearby, empty of candles, and the walls depict a glorious afterlife filled with riches and luxury, painted in bright pigments and gold leaf.
Annilda Soncir
|
"So, you broke into this ossuary, weakened the door to the treasure room, but you didn't take any of the treasure?" Annilda laughs. "This is quite the trap."
Will Save: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6
"Come on out, or I'll melt this entire room with you in it."
Intimidate: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10
Annilda draws one of her daggers, just in case...
Uriel, "God is my Light"
|
Uriel executes his detect evil and detect magic protocol scanning the room before entering it.
Lucina Haventhorne
|
"Maybe whoever barred the door died in here," Lucina remarks, not really sounded too perturbed by such a possibility. "It wouldn't be the first time in history that greed turned out to be some poor sap's undoing."
She peers curiously into the room as Uriel does his scan.
Perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 11
Lady Mae
|
Mae picks up a pebble and tosses it into the room, waiting for the riches to disappear and a large set of metal jaws to clamp shut. "This must be fake. But hopefully not." She says in her even keeled tone.
Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (9) + 8 = 17
Will Save if Illusion: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16

Annilda enters the room cautiously expecting an ambush...
Annilda: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6 FF
Damien: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22 OK
Lady Mae: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (19) + 8 = 27 OK
Lucina: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 = 17 FF
Ruby: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (2) + 8 = 10 FF
Sunny: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (8) + 0 = 8 FF
Uriel: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6 FF
.
1d20 + 9 ⇒ (10) + 9 = 19
1d20 + 9 ⇒ (17) + 9 = 26
While Lady Mae and Damien manage to catch the movement out of the corners of the room, it is far too late for Annilda who sees two blades flashing in the light, heading for her ribs...
IZ #1 dagger, flank: 1d20 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 3 + 2 = 15 miss.
SK #1 dagger, flank: 1d20 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 3 + 2 = 13 miss.
...but her combat instincts server her well as she avoids both blows!
Annilda: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 = 12
Damien: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17
Lady Mae: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19
Lucina: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19
Ruby: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13

Uriel: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
Uriel: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
.
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
The rest of you see there are a pair of tengu flashing daggers here!

Everyone except Uriel is UP! Also Damien and Lady Mae may take an extra action for the surprise round!
Lucina Haventhorne
|
Lucina quickly takes a step back, hefting her longspear as she catches the flash of weapons from within the room.
"Hey, whoa! We're not monsters, we're not monsters!"
Diplomacy (?): 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
______________
Lucina takes a step back and tries Diplomacy! It wasn't very effective...
Lady Mae
|
Mae instinctively reaches out and gives Uriel guidance on his next action before starting a summoning spell. Cast guidance in the surprise round, then dropping charm animal for summon nat ally 1 to come in at the start of my next turn.
"Beasts are attacking. They must think we invade their home... because we are."
Annilda Soncir
|
"And we're going to- hmm?" Annilda's Combat Reflexes protect her as she twists away from a pair of daggers. "Did you come here to rob the tomb? Or are you going to flee, as well?"
She steps into the room and throws a pair of fists at the Western Tengu. The poison leaves her weak and weary.

Damien Marx
|
"Outta my way!" Damien calls, pushing Ruby to move past Uriel and into the corner of the room. "What are ya attackin' us for, chicken? I was feelin' more like beef today, but if yer gonna try ta hurt us, I guess I can make an exception."
Earthbreaker, flank: 1d20 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 5 + 2 = 201d10 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
Ruby, bite, flank: 1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 4 + 2 = 171d6 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
DM Eric
|
As Annilda and Lucina make half-hearted attempts, at best, of diplomacy, Damien is far more aggressive as he moves into position and sends one of the tengu crashing to the ground unmoving.
The other tengu, seeing this and knowing it is outmatched here, throws down his dagger and calls out in Common, "I surrender! Please don't kill me!"
COMBAT OVER! (unless you want to slaughter them here).
Lucina Haventhorne
|
"Took you long enough," Lucina mutters, lowering her weapon. Trusting in the muscle to take care of the surrendering tengu she approaches the one laid out on the floor and attempts to stop them from bleeding out, if she can.
Heal: 1d20 ⇒ 20
"So, what're you two even doing in here? Were you the ones that dug their way into this place?"
Uriel, "God is my Light"
|
"Uncool, gentlefolk, attacking a party of god-fearing adventurers just out earning a paycheck."
He gives the conscious tengu a hard look. "You're not one of the undead, so you might just survive your mistake in taking us on. Spill your guts. What are you doing here?"
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13
"Case you're wondering, I'm the good cop. My little buddy with the earth breaker? He's the bad cop. He's fond of the role, if you catch my meaning."
Damien Marx
|
"Yeah! The bad cop!" Damien holds his earthbreaker threateningly over the tengu's head, shit-eating grin on his face and all.
Lady Mae
|
Mae peers inside and ends her spell casting "Birds of prey. I see." She takes a nervous step back. Birds are feared by her people.
DM Eric
|
Lucina is able to stabilize the dying tengu which seems to calm the other down somewhat.
"Look we didn't mean ta shank you like that there! We though it was that one beastie that took down poor Fisk who followed us here! As for what we are doing here we were looking for some easy coin, figured this Ossuary has a bunch of gold lyin' around ya know! So the three of us, Fisk, Skezza and I broke in through that tunnel, but didn't make it very far. Only managed to find that one crazy woman-beast who killed Fisk!"
Lady Mae
|
Mae peeks around the corner "Yes we are clearing out all intruders, grave robbers, and birds of prey. You must leave or be destroyed." She calls Sunny over close in case they try to carry her off in their talons.
Uriel, "God is my Light"
|
Uriel squats down by the fallen tengu, divine healing power radiating from his palm. "I'm ready to heal your buddy, just as soon as you start squawking, birdman."
Lucina Haventhorne
|
"Yeah, like...we're not murderers but we'll defend ourselves if we have to, you know? But any information you can give us about this woman-beast and the tunnel you came in from would be really great," Lucina chimes in. "Then you'll be free to go, if you want."
Damien Marx
|
"Who exactly is this woman beast? Sumone I can smash, by the sound of it." Damiens rubs his hand on the end of his earthbreaker, dusting off the tengu feathers.
Annilda Soncir
|
"Ah, know your friend was avenged. We split that thing asunder." Annilda shrugs.
Well, that was useless.
"May someone else heal his friend? I am out of blessings for today. I can use a wand, instead."
Lucina Haventhorne
|
"Sure, if someone's got a wand go ahead and give him a tap," Lucina agrees.
Lady Mae
|
Mae tosses her wand to Annilda, wanting no part in approaching the birds of prey "Here use this. But only enough to get it to leave us alone." The Chief back home would banish me if he knew I helped a terrorizing bird!
CLW Wand: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Uriel, "God is my Light"
|
"Save your wand, Lady Mae. I'd promised to heal the tengu's companion."
CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
DM Eric
|
Once the tengu awakes from Uriel's healing magic he springs to his feet and coonversing briefly in their own tongue, before turning to you.
"OK thanks for not killing us over that misunderstanding. Good luck with your explorations." Izzak says before he and his companion take their leave, heading to the tunnel and quickly disappearing inside.
Turning your attention to the room you see though the room’s furnishings appear valuable almost beyond imagination, the gold is only a thin plating and the gems are only paste replicas or semiprecious stones. Scraping off the gold veneer and prying the stones from their fittings takes 10 hours of work and only nets 100 gp worth of valuables.

Where to now guys?
Annilda Soncir
|
"I can't say I'm surprised." Annilda shrugs. "Oh well, gold is spent by fools for fools." She pauses. "Should we rest? How is everyone doing with their spellcasting ability? Personally I wouldn't mind getting the poison out of my system."
Lucina Haventhorne
|
"A rest would be okay by me; I'm running on cantrips at this point," Lucina remarks, looking around. "And this room of fool's gold seems a perfect place to rest while on a fool's errand, eh?"
Uriel, "God is my Light"
|
"Sure, let's rest. Maybe we'll wake to learn this was all just a nightmare." Uriel concurs. "Let's post a watch, though. I'll volunteer for the dead-man's shift, middle of the night."
Damien Marx
|
"Spellcastin'? Dunno how ta do it. Wave yer arms a bit and say some other werds and weird shit happens." Damien dismounts Ruby. The wolf curls up in a corner, and the halfling leans back against her as his pillow. "Who needs a bed roll when ya got the world's most comfy furred pillow as yer best pal?"
Annilda Soncir
|
"Not that I wouldn't mind a pillow right now, but I've lived with less. Much less." Annilda finds a wall to prop herself up against. "I will take the first watch."
Lucina Haventhorne
|
Lucina yawns and begins to look for a place to place her bedroll. "I can take last watch, if that's okay with everyone."
Lady Mae
|
"Rest would be nice. I've called in most of my favors for today, but if I ask nicely in the morning the spirits will return." Mae pulls out her rations then looks through her pack and Sunny's pack for slug food. "Sunny, you've gotten into your dinner already. You are going to have to just eat some of mine."
I've got 4 days of rations for Mae but apparently never bought any for Sunny. Usually I'm doing an outdoor mission and can survival some up. Mae can also take any watch, she's got darkvision to help, and Sunny has blind sense.
Lucina Haventhorne
|
Lucina has 5 Wandermeal for herself and a water canteen. Though she volunteered for last watch she'll take whichever watch the group thinks would work best. Just a halfling though so she doesn't have dark or low-light vision.
Uriel, "God is my Light"
|
"I've got rations for seven days. Please, Lord, don't make it necessary to eat all of them."
Annilda Soncir
|
Annilda has her five days of trail rations. She carefully portions some of them and deliberately eats them, slowly.
Annilda will take the first watch. Sounds like Uriel is taking the last one.
Uriel, "God is my Light"
|
"Lucina, you take the last watch. I'd volunteered to take a shift in the middle of the night." Uriel shrugs. "Not that you can tell the difference in this Pharasmin bung-hole."
Lucina Haventhorne
|
"Okay, will do," Lucina yawns again as she settles in to get some rest...
DM Eric
|
You all settle in for the rest of the day, and manage to get a good nights sleep as nothing interrupts your sleep.

Annilda rests, and works the poison out of her system. Then she prays for more aid and more magic.
"Now then." She finishes stretching and praying. "Let us try this door."
Lucina Haventhorne
|
Lucina wakes much refreshed and in a better mood than she'd been in at the end of their explorations the previous 'day'. "Right! Surely there's not that much more of this place to explore," she agrees as she hurries up the hall after Annilda. Once they reach the first unexplored door she eyes it carefully for any signs of traps or other trickery.

Damien stretches out with a yawn fit for a giant and all-too-casually passes gas. "Much better! I'm ready ta smash more undead! Let's do this!" The halfling remounts Ruby and the wolfrider follows Annilda and Lucina to the next door.
