Mae shrugs her tiny frog shoulders "We're just looking for anything and everything down here. Things are stealing bodies and we're here to stop it." She pauses for a second then adds "Are you hunting bodies to eat?"

"Oh yes, big pit, had a weird snake but not a snake in it. Then a locked door on the other side right?" Mae uses her hands to describe everything, whether the hissing creature can see her or not.

"Yeah, it was sort of a...crafted...thing, but we did kill it," Lucina reluctantly agrees with her companions. "Or broke it or whatever."

"SMASHED IT!" Damien corrects. Loudly of course.

"Yeah, yeah, whatever, we smashed it," Lucina huffs, finding the distinction less important than Damien apparently does. "And yes, we're most definitely seeking out whoever or whatever's controlling the undead down here so we can put an end to it."
And no matter what, now we know that there's someone or some *thing* controlling these shambling corpses. Thanks for the free information!

"Yesssss....I have no doubt you wissssh to sssserve the priestsssss well." The hissing voice rings forth again, "Assss I am an oracle and a myssssstic, I have ssssseen things of thesssse undead...I know where the masssster lurksssss. I would be willing to....sssssell you the information. Surely you have gathered enough trinketssss to sssspare..."

"Nope." Uriel says, "But my friends may be willing to trade with you. Their call, not mine, snake."

"What do you mean by trinkets? We said what we were looking for. What are you looking for?" She taps her foot impatiently.

Damien throws a single gold piece at the creature. "Hows THAT fer a trinket?"

Sipping from his waterskin, Uriel does a spit-take.

Annilda taps her feet, clearly impatient. "This creature speaks riddles. I'm ready to move on unless she can bluntly state her terms."

"Cheap date, this snake is." Uriel mutters under his breath.

Annilda raises an eyebrow, curious.

"Ah, we weren't able to open the door, it was locked, yes? We either should focus on breaking the lock, or search for the key. What say you?"

"Ooooh, right....the door the chime didn't work on," Lucina nods, frowning. "Is there a key, you think? Not that I really want to have to scour this place top to bottom but I'd also like to not waste all our charges on the chime trying to get that door open and then be stuck down here."
She thinks on for a moment longer and then sighs. "Sounds like we've got some more rooms to explore, unless you think you can batter the door down."

Mae blinks at Lucina "I do not batter down doors. Neither does Sunny." She swirls her nearly empty bufo and sighs, taking another sip as she hopes to soon see trees and the sun. Maybe if I finish this these walls will start to look green like leaves...

"Yeah, no sense wasting the chime, if there are still nooks and crannies we haven't yet beat our heads against."

"Guess that settles it," Lucina nods. She hefts her pack and moves toward the door, but pauses at the exit to look back over her shoulder. "Um...thanks for the information. Maybe if we have other questions we'll be back...with appropriate compensation, of course."
With that, she hurries from the room and back down the hallway to the western intersection. There she pauses, waiting for the others to catch up. "Let's head down this way next; it's probably the easiest route that we've not taken yet."

Mae nods along with Lucina and hops along after her, waving at Sunny to get her attention, she too slides her way down the corridor, leaving a nice little slug trail for the others to follow.

Ruby sniffs the slug ooze curiously as Damien pushes her ahead. "It's like a trail of bread crumbs! Wonder if a bad guy could use it ta track us."
"Where's this super secret door anyway? Bet that little jerk was lyin'..."

Leaving the 'mystic' behind you, Lucina moves to the intersection where you have not explored yet. While the western passage turns south, the eastern one leads to a chamber. A suit of elaborate lacquered armor stands sentinel against the far eastern wall of this octagonal chamber. Silver chains attached to the armor’s neck and chest run across the floor of the room, their ends clutched in the bony hand of a skeleton sprawled on the floor ten feet away.

"Let's look before we leap."
Uriel detects evil, focusing first on the skeleton and then on the suit of armor. Then the aasimar detects magic, scanning the octagonal room for magical auras.

"No evil, no magic, folks," Uriel announces. "Let's take a closer look."

"It seems odd to have an entire skeleton. Usually in the jungle you only find a few bones here and there. And often lots of blood... Maybe this one died here of old age?" She too starts to look around.

Sunny stands? Lays? Sits? against the outter wall, her eyestalks recede into her head and drool continues dripping to the floor.

Damien shrugs, and pokes the skeleton with the tip of his lance.

"This is really weird," Lucina frowns as she examines the suit of armor more closely. "And we've seen a lot of weird stuff down here already! Was the armor like, that guy's pet or something?"

As you cautiously move in to examine the suit of armor, Lucina notices it first...a dark spot that slips out of one of the greaves of the pristine armor...which is followed by another...and then several more...
Soon the halfling is able to identify the bugs as cockroaches, rather large ones too...and they just keep swarming out of the suit of armor!
For every 5 you beat the DC by you may select one of the items from this LIST to get information on.

"Hmm. I was wrong." Annilda watches the cockroaches gather forth. "Lucina, can you burn these things?" She moves to the side and takes Total Defense.

"Gyeeeeee!"
Lucina hastily retreats and flings a small orb of acid into the mass of cockroaches that continue to pour out of the armor!

"I regret everything! Yuck!"

K Nature, DC12: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8 Mae is so excited to see the swarm of bugs that has a compete and total meltdown on exactly what they are.
"Ooooh so cute, so MANY! Woah guys.. woah I say! Stay calm people stay calm!!" She draws a wand and uses it on herself, then quickly starts making some odds clicking sounds and humming noises towards the roaches. Wand of speak with animals/vermin
"We come in peace! Sorry about that, and THAT. You've scared them is all... we can find you something else to eat ok? Ok?"
Mae starts conversing with the roaches to try to calm them down but was intercepted with the attacks, no worries.
Wild Empathy: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22
Vermin Heart: You have a special bond with things that creep, crawl, skitter, and sting. Prerequisite: Wild empathy class feature. Benefit: You may target vermin with spells and special abilities that only affect animals (although they are still affected by spells targeting vermin as well). You may use wild empathy to influence vermin as easily as you influence animals.

If Lady Mae acts first then Lucina will still move back but otherwise delay her attack to see if this soothing thing works.

Damien also waits to see how the roaches react to Lady Mae, but draws a vial of alchemist's fire.

As the mass of cockroaches gather in front of you, the grippli steps forward and bravely faces the swarm...who stop advancing towards her. While Lady Mae only gets a sensation of pure, primal hunger emanating from the mass of bugs she is able to convey there is another source of food...namely the being who fled from you earlier. The fact that she has no idea where it fled to does not seem to bother the cockroaches as they immediately fly off down the corridor and vanishing out of sight!
COMBAT OVER!
The treat now over you turn your attention to the items left behind. The elaborate armor is a suit of masterwork banded mail. In addition, an exotic masterwork bastard sword lies nearby, and two curved daggers lie beneath the skeleton.

"W-wow..." Lucina breathes as the cockroaches suddenly swarm and skitter past them, down the corridor, and out of sight. "I don't know what you did Lady Mae but that was amazing!"

"You can speak to cockroaches, Lady Mae?" Annilda laughs. "I wonder how many secrets they pick up in city homes."
She peers at the daggers. "You can never have enough daggers, I say."

"Do we think the Pharasmins will grant us salvage rights?" Uriel wonders as he helps scoop up the loot. "Lady Mae, can you use the cockroaches like hounds, letting them lead us to our hide-and-seek munchkin?"

"Well would ya look at that!" Damien looks ahead at the fleeing cockroaches. "I think we got ourselves a bit of a bug whisperer here. Pretty cool!"

Mae smiles and waves off the accolades "The cockroaches are just hungry and I told them they could find better food that way. I don't know if they will find it or not, I don't know much about their kind. I'm more into spiders..." She helps the others looks through the loots.

"Ready to move, when you are." Uriel has always been a little fidgety.

"Might as well make use of what we find if we can," Lucina remarks. "That armor looks nice if you're into wearing armor."
Once she does a quick check to confirm that the found items are simply nice quality and not magical, she turns and pads around the nearby corner that they haven't checked yet...

Eager to be free of the thought of the swarm devouring your flesh, Lucina leads the way here down the corridor which heads south for a fair distance, branching to the east where it leads back to the Grand Cathedral, before it terminates close to where the various embalming rooms were located.
You also note dirt and rubble surround a hole in the wall of this alcove. Within, a rough-hewn tunnel leads off into darkness. Two picks and a shovel lie on the floor in front of the hole. Finally, you see the corridor heading back to the entrance though a door which you bypassed earlier in the south wall also beckons.

"Um...I guess someone tried to dig their own way out?" Lucina muses as she stares at the tunnel. She peers into it and takes a sniff, but doesn't go any further than that.
"Who knows how far it leads? We should probably just leave it for now and keep looking. Oh hey, there's a room we've not checked yet!" she points to the nearby closed door.

"These tools look sized for big folks or small?" Uriel takes a look. He also looks into the excavated tunnel, peering into its depths with his darkvision.
