Maoldrurra looks around warily. "Be careful. It could be the orcs that have the crows squawking."

The warrior slings his glaive across his back and lays an arrow in the V formed by the top of his left hand and his bow. He pulls the nock back against the string, then places his left pointer finger over the top of the arrow to hold it in place and ready to draw. In his right hand he takes his horse's reins. The arrangement is awkward, but should allow him to lead his horse and be ready to shoot on reasonably short notice.

"Agromite, if you would be so kind ...."

Thus offering the intrepid gnome the point position.

The party noticise the many crows that seem to be squaking but they are in front of a cave entrance. And the crows start squaking even more as the party approaches.

Pip snorts as if to say "of course" This must be it... Lets hope the crows mean they're already dead.

With a nod to Maol, Agromite slips off his pony. He hands the reins to Stevron and draws a shortsword. He approaches the cave entrance, again not taking the direct approach but walking at an angle to the cave. This allows him to keep his eyes on the entrance as he draw near but taking him to the left side of the entrance instead of creating an inviting target of a silhouette to anyone just inside.

Approaching as silently as he can, he keeps his eyes and ears open to signs of an ambush, or at the very least whatever has attracted the attention of the murder of crows above.

Stealth: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (5) + 13 = 18
Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (6) + 9 = 15 and another +1 to find a trap

Agromite can see the entrance to the cave widens a little on the inside but quickly becomes dark, and a little bit of rubbish dump outside the cave picked over by crows and cannot hear much over the noise of the crows.

Cursing under his breath in gnomish, Agromite takes the same route back to the group and reports what he has seen.

"The trash says its occupied, the crows say maybe they're sloppy with their food and their kills, means whoever it is isn't exactly the sharpest sword on the rack. Not going to learn much more til we head inside."

Suddenly having a thought, the gnome turns back toward the cave but begins looking up at the sky above the entrance. "Maybe there's a chimney or second entrance somewhere? I'm....not exactly the front-door type."

Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (18) + 9 = 27 looking for smoke that might be escaping the caves out a hole in the roof or something.

did we notice any sheltered hills or grove of trees where we can safely stash the horses?

Maoldrurra smiles grimly. "Sounds like orcs, or goblins. I like the idea of a second entrance. No doubt they have something nasty in store for anyone knocking on their front door."

If the party is amenable to the idea, and I know Agromite is already, let's circle the hill and look for other entrances. Did we find a suitable place for the horses? How much daylight is left? What's the local lay of the land? This cave -- are we talking something we've got to squirm into on our bellies? A grand cavern that an army could shelter in for a night? Dry or wet? What kind of stone?

Agree, safely stow the horses (as 'safely' as we can anyway) then do a perimeter sweep.

About 4 hours of daylight is left. The ground is a little moist but is starting to dry out from the rain two days ago.

The cave is pretty wide with a narrow opening of about five feet wide that seems to immediately open up on the indside.

The party moves its way around but can't seem to find a second entrance instead finding what looks like rocks and a tree falling over and rotting.

As the group finds themselves back at the entrance, having gone full circle with no luck finding a second exit, Agromite lets out a long sigh.

"Front door it is then........."

Waiting to make sure the others are prepared, the gnome silently approaches the entrance and makes his way a few feet inside.

Stealth: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (18) + 13 = 31
Perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (4) + 10 = 14 looking for traps as he enters

Giving Agromite a 20' lead, Maoldrurra creeps closer trying to match the gnome's stealth.

Unlikely, but that's what he'll try.

After a few rocks the cave opens but at the end of the light it starts to open a little and have a wide area and gets into dim light with no cover but then you hear a grunt in what sound like orc from inside.

where is everyone relative to everyone else and roll for initiative

Stevron moves forward and throws a bomb at one of the orcs.

Moving to [C,5], and throwing a bomb at the orc at [B,1]

Attack vs. touch AC: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18
damage: 2d6 + 5 ⇒ (3, 4) + 5 = 12

If the orc at [B,1] dies before Stevron's turn comes up he will try to hit the orc at [D,1].

Thinking Maol might want a straight shot, Agromite takes a slightly angled approach to clear a path as he engages one of the orcs. Speed is on his side, and the creature isn't quite prepared for the assault.

damage: 1d4 ⇒ 1
and assuming they're flatfooted since we acted first...

Maoldrurra rushes forward, as he closes he dropping his glaive so the tip scrapes the floor , reaching the orc he levers the glaive up to cut into the orc's inner thigh.

Charge to H3 . -2 to AC til next round
