Oh hey, maybe I should get my man to read me The Princess Bride! Just like the movie!

Get better, Kaz!

Normally on a Friday night I have my in person Emerald Spire game with my Maestro Sorceress. (Although Cyanne is my first ever official bard, my friends all joke that I play nothing but bards since all my characters wind up performing. But the GM has a convention -- some Klingon thing -- and I was unexpectedly home.

But now I'm getting ready to head off to Aikido.

So... Princess Bride is clearly a hit here. How about Star Dust or Galavant?

(Galavant is not in the same league as the other two, but it's a silly multicultural musical set in a pseudomedieval period, so iof course *I* loved it!)

Alright. So. Kaz is balanced precariously on a slippery beaver dam, in full armour, with no weapon, facing down a hostile bandit leader who he was in the middle of negotiations with.

I see no way for this to end well.

You could always try knocking him off the dam! You DO get to go first! Besides, he doesn't have a weapon either.

I do feel bad that Cyanne's actions put you in peril. She just wanted out of the dire future painted for her and Lepod by Akiros -- and she was taking advantage of the first opportunity she has had so far to engineer an escape.

But apparently, I am causing you guys trouble already. And you haven't even accepted me as part of the team yet!

EDITED TO ADD:

Is Akiros an NPC or a bandit? Because bandits go before Kaz.

Don't worry. It shan't happen, not with the current group.

BTW, Kaz... what if Lepod is your Buttercup? Here you are, being all dashing and noble and stuff, coming to the rescue of a young, well-muscled prisoner who's been rather badly treated.

After Cyanne laid down the glitterdust, I finally read the negotiations under the spoilers.

She's going to feel so dumb when she learns what you and Akiros were planning. This will be great!

EDITED to ADD: Chris, I love how complicated Akiros is. He rocks as an adversary -- he's bright, competent, brutal, conflicted... Wow. He's not bi, is he? Just think about what an awesome Buttercup he could be!

The Once and Future Kingmaker Battle Maps, Kingmaker: Svetlana's Tale Battle Maps

Akiros is not a creation of mine, that's for sure. I tend to follow the James Jacobs method of defining NPC sexuality (that is to say, any given NPC can have any sexuality; bi, straight, gay, pan, ace, etc... until proven otherwise, as needed by the story), and to be honest, I'm probably playing him as smarter than his stat-block should be. Beyond that, I don't want to say too much.

In another universe... Slash fiction

Akiros once again throws his spear into the dirt next to the Beaver Dam. "Come out and parley! We'll either have swords or words... which will it be?"

Kaz sighs, lays his weapons once again on the ground, and steps out on the slippery beaver dam. He reaches out his arms to balance himself, hoping not to slip into the chilly depths of the water all around them. "I've come. What do you want this time, Akiros?"

Akiros flexes his muscles, his long silver hair falling into his eyes. "I think you know what I want... Kazimir." He says the name slowly, like a caress. "I didn't hold being one of Ol' Deadeye's against you. But..." His smoldering gaze locks on Kazimir, allowing the former farm boy to look into the bandit's tortured soul. "I'd like to... hold something else against you."

With that, he strips off his fur vest, tossing it to the shore, standing there before Kazimir shirtless and vulnerable.

Kazimir has a sharp intake of breath, and then blushes like the sweet farm boy he is. "Okay..." he breathes, reaching out to touch the bandit's chest wonderingly. "But...Why do we have to keep meeting here?"

Akiros tosses his head back, in an inviting hair flip... "It's dangerous." He crooks a finger. "Come here, knight. Redeem me."

Luthor would probably be more inclined to avert his eyes and get really awkward. It wouldnt help that he would be getting bombarded by emotional imput from Rikka who would follow the scene with great curiosity "Oh my!"

So noted for future reference (assuming Kaz doesn't smite me first.)

Is Cyanne really joining a party with four virgins? This will be hilarious... Note, Cyanne's not promiscuous. But I assume that a Shelynite who has had a theater career would have a bit of experience here and there.

Yeah, usually my characters have at least a bit of experience, but I really like Kaz' whole "struggling with himself and his faith" thing too much to have let him do much. He might have fooled around a bit with the girl he was with briefly, but not that far. Things got awkward really fast for him.

Why would I smite you? It wouldn't work, and I only get one of them per day. Gotta save 'em for the real evildoers :P

Having run the first part of Kingmaker before, I'm now picturing Akiros in that red dress, and I'm choking on my coffee.

As for that alternate universe thing... Yeah, I got nothing. I don't have a problem with that. I'll be in my bunk.

Also, as I've played too much Dragon Age, I'm now picturing Cyanne, in-character, writing and distributing "friend fiction" about the party and various NPCs. Names would be changed, but only slightly; everyone's an exaggerated version of themselves, and of course, there are various pairings (some of which make sense, others not so much).

As for gameplay, I'm about to head to work, so I may not get a chance to attempt to salvage this until I get home. Sorry! This is what I get for checking discussion first...

Daen is absolutely a virgin, but he's not the blushing type. He has a history of being messed with and tormented by people in his family, especially his cousins. A few times of being subsequently both encouraged and then humiliated have taught him a few things as well. Not to say that he still isn't a teenager with raging hormones, but he is a bit wise to the dangers of flirtation.

If it helps to think of him as a bit more of a Tsundere, I suppose that trope is pretty close, although it would take a while to get past his prickly exterior.

Daen is TOTALLY the blushing type. I think he's blushed like three times in the last two pages of The Long Vigil.

The saddest part about today was realizing that Laliytsa doesn't fit any character from The Princess Bride. :(

I got thinking about it. I've decided that her Disney princess is Mulan and that she'd be Natasha Yar from TNG. And she is totally Eowyn from LOTR.

I'm not sure that I fully ship it yet... Daen's reaction totally took me by surprise, but maybe that's because I was too busy looking for Kaz's Buttercup. Cyanne likes and trusts elves a lot, but she also likes people who smile from time to time...

And now I have got to ask you this, Daen... How did you wind up playing the same character in two simultaneous games?

BTW, Chris, sorry about naming one of your bandits for you. I desperately needed a name to call the one that was fool enough to attack Rask! If you don't like the name Dirty Pete, feel free to change it.

Kaz, I am grinning from ear to ear at your Firefly reference! Now there was a series with great female characters. The main problem that I had with Princess Bride is that Buttercup was not worthy. Seriously, she could have had more agency. She's prettier than Cyanne is, but Cyanne at least made an attempt (however botched) to rescue herself.

I think Cyanne's a very odd cross between Vizzini and Fezzick. She schemes like the former, but unabashedly loves rhymes and people like the latter. I think we can have a Princess Bride plotline without having exact character matches here, because we all have awesome characters.

Male human Paladin (shining knight of Erastil) 2 / Bloodrager (Celestial) 1 | AC 19, T 10, FF 19 | hp 7/34 | Fort +9, Ref +3, Will +5 | CMD 18 | Initiative +1 | Perception +0 | Smite Evil 0/1 | Lay on Hands 1/3 | Bloodrage rounds 3/6

Yeah, smiling is good. Maybe I'll have to reconsider my ships. (On that note, I honestly don't know if Kaz/Akiros (or Akiros/Kaz, as the case may be?) would be a thing, but for now, it's fun to talk about.) There'll be a Buttercup out there somewhere, I'm sure.

Pfft, two games? I was, at one time, playing my bard in three consecutive PBPs. It's kind of a long story. >.>

Dirty Pete makes me think of the villain of Toy Story 2... "Stinky Pete the Prospector", wasn't it?

Haha, I figured with Monty Python, Stardust, and The Princess Bride all on the table, I had to throw in Firefly. Jayne is still one of my favorite characters from anything. (I have the hat. It's hideous. I love it to bits.) You're right about the female characters being awesome, and about Buttercup being... Well, really, she was a bit vapid. If Kaz ends up with someone as hopeless as her, they're both doomed! :P

And dammit, the idea of this plotline has me laughing madly. I look forward to reaching it... In what, three years? :P

Daen's playing that character in two games because The Long Vigil is my favorite PbP ever, and Eilidh may be my deepest character. The GM went on hiatus and I thought the game was dead, and I recruited for this game in an unconventional way. The original cast was in it because I loved RPing with them in a different game. The day I messaged Daen with the invite, DMRaven came back. We talked it over, and Daen's in two games now.

@Cyanne: I have no problem with you naming a bandit here and there. I've been trying to name most of my human NPCs with Germanic (Brevoy/River Kingdoms), Slavic (Pitax/Some Brevoy), or Russian (Iobaria) names, just to keep flavor consistent, but anything works. 'Topper' is actually out of the book, and I'm pretty sure that's not his real name.

@Kazimir: Lol, Toy Story! And yeah, The Princess Bride plotline is a long way off. There's a lot of other stuff to worry about between then and now. I'll most likely kill you in the meantime.

Yep, Aest got the right of it. I developed Daen as a dynamic character. He won't always be the same. In fact, it's quite likely that we will see two different Daens emerge over the course of events in two different worlds. He's patterned after my grandfather, and there's a wealth of potential in him.

Also, I'm not sure if I ship it either, but it doesn't mean he can't be attracted to a beautiful lady. He's not made of stone. Like I said, teenager with raging hormones. He just doesn't let the stupidity often caused by hormones to carry him away. He's cautious but dedicated. Should he ever seriously fall in love, I'd consider that to be a very fortunate woman. After all, what's more valuable? A smile that smiles at everything, or one that's only because of her? She'll find that he's dedicated to excel in everything he pursues, and he's a fast learner. My wife tells me that restraint is sexy, after all her favorite quote from the Anne of Green Gables series is “I wouldn't want to marry anybody who was wicked, but I think I'd like it if he could be wicked and wouldn't.”

As for Buttercup, I have a different view of her than most. She's a bit dim, but I don't hold that against her. At the beginning of the movie, she despaired of life because her love was lost. That's fair, it happens to lots of people. But through the discovery of Westley (and his jealousy) she started to believe that death can not stop true love. Her belief in that causes her to fire back the epic line, "Then why is there fear behind your eyes?" in response to the angry prince's declaration that he killed Westley. Sure, it's blind faith in a man's love, and that rarely if ever works in the real world, but it's a fairy tale. It's meant to be idealistic, and Buttercup is the ideal of beauty from way on back. Just because some of those qualities have fallen out of fashion doesn't mean they aren't compelling. After all, the movie is still great.

...<3 Kaylee. Actually a big fan of all the girl mechanics as far back as Gadget Hackwrench from Rescue Rangers. With special mention of Audrey Ramirez from Atlantis.

Bummer about the phone, Kaz!

I usually take handle animal -- I adore animal companions and pet classes. If there was a bard archetype that gave an animal companion, I'd totally play one! But Volte isn't a companion, just a mount. It's too bad that handle animal is not a bard class skill. Oh well. Just about everything else is!

BTW, I may have to change my mind about shipping Daen if this keeps up...
