Sidenote, Do we take any traits?

You could be a more hands on duke and go out with the folks going to take on giants or gather resources or whatever. A second in command could carry out your orders in the city or wherever.

I'll do it if people sing goblin-y songs

Xan Nes wrote:
I Plan on being a general. not a duke. I am here to serve the true leader. And yes! Traits!

in case you did not see my reply, 2.

Grand Diplomat or Magister for me. Viceroy wouldn't be terrible, but that's probably a long way off.

Brennus Rassam wrote:
With Charisma 7, 10, 11, and 12, I don't think we have a viable Duke in the party yet. A Slayer Duke would be charming though.

I am more curious than anything. So I have a question for all of you. Mostly to folks wanting to be duke. Would you want to figure who is duke before the game starts? As in the folks underground chose a new leader or someone took over or whatever. Or would you prefer to start the game with multiple leader types? And whoever wants to be duke would have to duke it out (pun intended) with the other candidates. It does not mean physically (though it could) but by winning over the people or building an army and making everyone else submit or whatever else.

Thoughts?

Benny the Goblin wrote:

I admit thinking of a goblin in charge did make me smile. Though I am not biased. I played in a game where everyone was a goblin and chief goblin was insane...Well more so at least. I played a goblin who tried to take over.

My vote goes to the goblin, if he appoints me his general.

Need to make myself useful.

I'm defaulting naturally to figuring it out before the game starts, but I wouldn't mind roleplaying into it either (even if we've already decided). Like the Spider said in Game of Thrones, power lies where people believe it lies, so as long as the common folk are happy and we're making productive decisions, I'm not bothered. We start singing goblin songs though... I'm voting for the character that has the highest Cha.

2 people marked this as a favorite.

I'm working on songs as we speak.

Looking at it we have (based on what has been said)
A possibility of a Goblin for "Duke"
A Grand Magister/Diplomat
A General
And an unknown quantity.

Chel is certainly not duke material, in fact she's most content when someone's telling her what to do (though she can be quite pro-active and adaptive in serving her lord best).

2 people marked this as a favorite.

Looks like Benny is our Duke. All hail the Goblin King

Hold on! I really want to know how you all chose a highly uncharismatic goblin as your duke? It is really funny but I just gotta know. Not to mention other people might want to be the duke.

2 people marked this as a favorite.

Maybe because he has a gun?

Well I for one, wish to be a general, not a duke. Chel Apparently has no desire to be a Duke. So unless Brennus wishes to be a duke, it looks like Benny is the only applicant.

For me it is solely because my character wants to prove his worth. He does not believe a job with no combat in the defence of people will prove his worth. Leading people into battle as their general, and winning is what he believes in for tests of worth. Besides, I can bluff, not do diplomacy.

that doesn't stop me from murdering him in the back Benny

There are actually a few more characters being rolled up. And a couple of them have shown interest in being duke. So we will see.

Forgot about them

So What I see so far:
Korak's Character, the assassin,possible duke
Chel, the slayer
Brennus, Occultist and diplomat
Tagolan, Ranger possible general
Benny, gunslinger, possible duke

Anyone I'm missing?

Either way, I hope to be the general under any duke.

Under my rule you would have to prove your tactical and strategic ability to be given Command of our armies. I would allow no dead weight to break the branches of our military tree.

Dead weight? We will see about that.

Hey, No offense, but a general has to more than a great fighter. I'm just saying you'd have to earn you're commission

I hope my character proves himself. My character isn't just a fighter. He is a scout, a warrior, he has some skill in deception, for use against enemies of course, and if the dice will it, will prove himself again and again.

To clarify: I was implying that I didn't want Benny to be duke.

Oh please for god sake tell me we can use the enhanced poison and diseases rules presented in pathfinder unchained.

Description:

Spoiler:

Jalel is an exceptionally beautiful man. He has shoulder length straight blonde hair, round bright green eyes, long beautiful eye-lashes, a slender toned body,

He usually wears sturdy leather breeches, a good belt with a dagger attached, dark shirt, well worn but well maintained boots and leather armor all of which has been stained to darken the color and not catch light. Covering him is his cloak and he also carries a pack filled with other supplies.

Background:

Spoiler:

Jalel was born a unique person, he was always surprisingly quick and charismatic and he found himself among those who could use magic. This gave him a sense of purpose and superiority.

When the purple fog came, he ran. Not because he was afraid, but because he knew he was too valuable to let himself die. He would have been forced to stay above ground, but he used his innate magic to disguise his true self and go below.

During his time below ground, he felt surprisingly at home. The press of the underground didn't bother him so readily and he found a sense of calmness. He took up gardening. The sense of comfort he took helped to grow his strength.

He slowly got a hold of a power to manipulate others.

If you added some enchantment spells and Perform: Singing, you'd only be a few kidnapped babies away from a channeling certain fae lord of goblins and labyrinths.

I'm not saying it's a bad thing.

Game begins August 4th.
There looks like there could be a fair number of you 9 possibly more may come. I decided to allow up to 7 of you to be in it.

Though I admit it will be hard to pick with all these fun sounding characters popping up.

Please consider my submission for this PBP.

Talarin will be useful as a front line fighter and scout. He wouldn't really be interested in being duke...unless he was pushed into it.

Most important part:

Background:

Male Catfolk Swashbuckler, level 3.
Talirin’s ears twitched back and forth and his fur was on edge. His blades were at the ready, though covered in dirt as to not give away his position in the dark. The soft hue of the glow-moss lit this part of the caves. He never liked hunting in this section, there were too many dangerous predators in this here…but he was a hunter and he did what he had too.
He spotted his prey…a nice fat rat that was common to this section of caves due to the amount of carrion created by the other predators. The group had prepared rat in every way possible; over the fire, baked, raw, with spices, plain…Talirin hoped for other kinds of meat if they ever made it to the surface. At certain times he dreamed of other types of meat…even though he had only heard of them, it was like he could taste them on his tongue, but all there was is rat. His parents were long dead, he couldn’t even remember them…just the kind soldier, Bernard, who had raised him and trained him as his own. He was small and quick…one of the quickest around and that had served him well when the food had started to run low years ago. He had often been sent ahead to sneak around and make sure none of the larger predators…like Otyugh’s or cave lizards were around.
He moved into position, cutting off the rat’s escape route and moved in for the kill. With his twin blades he made short work of the rat. his shortswords weren’t pretty, pitted as they were from long exposure to the damp underground and the little oil around to keep them from rusting, but they were sharp and functional…and they were Bernard’s.
He had three rats on his string already…at least everyone would eat today. He didn’t need much himself, but not everyone could say that. It had taken a long time for the others to accept him. It was really only after he had proved himself, sneaking around the caves and bringing back food that the other people there stopped treating him like an outsider. There were even a group of them he considered friends. Some he would hunt with but often they were too noisy to bring around.
His keen ears picked up on the scraping noise in the distance. It was probably old thick-skin, great old lizard that frequented this section of caves. Talirin had seen him from a distance…25 feet of powerful muscle with claws the length of his swords. Not something he felt necessary to tangle with. He may have already smelled the rat’s on his string…he had better return to safety and the village they had built under ground with his catch.
He padded off in silence in the opposite direction of thick-skin...

I will complete the character detail in the next day but I wanted to get this concept out there to you. Thanks!

Description:

Maxwell is a tall lanky man. He look mostly human, but if you look close you can see the tops of his ears come to points. He keeps his hair shoulder length to cover it.

Maxwell is a healer to his friends, seeker of knowledge, and racist against Giants.

Ht: 6' 0"
Wt: 175 lbs
Age: 18
Hair: Black
Eyes: Blue
Skin: White

Maxwell Was orphaned as a 3 year old. His parents died in the fight with the Giants. A group headed for the shelter took

him with them. Thanks to them he survived. Once the shelter was closed up, a group of shamans and druids took young

Maxwell under the wing.

Maxwell was taught the magic of the spirits by the shamans, and nature skills by the druids. He spent his free time

reading books. Maxwell was quit curious about the outside world. Listening to stories by the elders and reading his

books are all he had to learn about the outside world.

Much of maxwell's teenage years have been spent as a healer, and a conjurer of clean drinking water.

His drive to learn about the outside world, coupled with the nature skills that he learned, led Maxwell to volunteer to

go outside.

I been meaning to clear something up. Folks seem to think checking on the fog means actually going outside, when it just means you go to the big door near one of the entrances that has a small glass window on it. Someone might be sent out if there was no fog at the door but that has not happened yet. So if you are trying to prove your worth in game by checking on the fog it is no different than being someone in our world that checks the peek hole to see if the pizza guy just pulled up. Not that amazing. Sorry for the confusion.

well nothings done and because I ended up using the background generator (modified for setting) Lawful evil my way is the only right way, I have a current lover I'm a bastard, (maybe the duke's) I have an older sister and twin, I also murdered somebody within the confines of the cave, which for an assassin makes sense, I'm thinking it was probably another student of the assassin arts. So, any takers for lover/sister/twin?

Interesting.

Yep, now I just need to develop that into a backstory, for which I wait to see if anybody wants to take up a familial position or romantic position before developing it into a full fledged background. That thing really is a life saver. Though I do find the lack of a proviso to find out whose bastard you are a bit annoying though generally I'd say, wee chance to role play. Then again there's always ruins to explore that may reveal information.

Little do you know your dad was a rock.

With spells like polymorph, a definite possibility lol

Below are my equipment requests. I wasn't sure of the general rules and if any requests for magic items were okay since we are 3rd level.

Feel free to say no to any of these.

Equipment Requests:

2 Masterwork ShortSwords from my adoptive father Bernard. They would be prized possessions.
A pair of daredevil boots:Price 1,400 gp; Aura faint enchantment; CL 3rd; Weight 1 lb.
This pair of magical boots shimmers in vibrant shades of blazing red and burning orange when they are held up to the light. These boots allow the wearer to gain extra maneuverability while moving through hazardous areas. As a free action, the wearer can click her heels together to grant herself a +5 competence bonus on Acrobatics checks made to move through threatened squares or to move through an enemy's space without provoking attacks of opportunity for up to 10 rounds per day. The rounds do not need to be consecutive. Furthermore, anytime the wearer of the boots successfully moves though the space of an enemy without provoking an attack of opportunity, she gains a +1 bonus on attack rolls against that enemy until the end of her turn.
Other than that a couple of daggers for throwing and some very normal things like a backpack, rope.
That's it.

He is just about ready to go.

I also took a liberty with a trait. See in spoiler, thanks.

Cave Dweller:

• Cave Dweller: You were raised in rugged cave and passageways and you've become something of an expert at evading the predators, monsters, and worse that haunt the underground. You gain a +1 trait bonus on Stealth checks, and Stealth is always a class skill for you. This trait bonus increases to +2 in underground areas.
This is based on the trait Highlander:
Highlander (Hills or Mountain): You were born and raised in rugged badlands or hills, and you've become something of an expert at evading the predators, monsters, and worse that haunt the highlands. You gain a +1 trait bonus on Stealth checks, and Stealth is always a class skill for you. This trait bonus increases to +2 in hilly or rocky areas.

If this is not okay no problem, I can go with something more generic. Thanks!
