It's definitely a possibility. Though I hope it is nothing more than that. It would be nice for the Voices and Toramin to be competent in this regard. :-)

I love subterfuge games.

Rules question: Is there a mechanic/chart to modify creatures to a certain "buy" to be equivalent in a given situation? For example, how might one diminish the attributes of an extraplanar quadraped with inherent strengths due its environment to a more mundane animal, such as a zebra?

Male Grizzly Bear 3 | HP: 30/30 l AC: 19 /T: 12/FF: 17 l Fort: +4, Ref: +5, W: +4 l Init: +2 l Per: +5; Low-light vision; Scent l Movement: 40

Hrm, I don't think I'm following the question.

That was a dense question. It took me a few reads to get it myself.

No, there is no mechanic or chart to modify creatures that way to the best of my knowledge. You would have to look up other creatures, do some number crunching, and make some judgement calls.

Why do you ask?

Omen have you considered starting an Obsidian Portal page for the campaign? I think it might be a nice addition.

I have not. I don't know much about it.

It's a site like blogspot but dedicated to RPGs. You can create a page for the campaign where you can post stuff (images, text, etc) for easy reference in the future. It's great for longer running campaigns with lots of tie-ins like this one.

This is an example.

You can see sections for each of the PCs, blurbs and reference images for the NPCs, entries for custom magic items/spells, and more.

Seems like there's quite a learning curve to it. I don't know if I have that kind of time to commit to it.

Male Grizzly Bear 3 | HP: 30/30 l AC: 19 /T: 12/FF: 17 l Fort: +4, Ref: +5, W: +4 l Init: +2 l Per: +5; Low-light vision; Scent l Movement: 40

It's not too bad. I've worked with a lot worse user-based media sites.

I can do the footwork and if you decide you like it you can start adding to it directly.

Well I can hardly say no to a generous offer like that. I would be honored Bjorkus, it would certainly be a good way to keep track of everything.

Having a clearing house for information would be helpful. I know that updating the NPC list has really helped me.

And so it was a loincloth of physical perfection materialized.

Thanks, Bjorkus.

A loincloth of physical perfection would be sweet...

Omen does the dwarven nation as a whole have a name?

No.

If he wants to, he can certainly jump in -- that's why Toramin is looking for a priest.

This is what I've got so far.

I wish there was more info on that god. I don't wish to extrapolate on material I didn't create, so I will leave that particular bit of storytelling to Toramin.

Very nice Bjorkus. That's a good first step.

Male Dwarf Paladin (Stonelord) 11 l HP: 105/105 (127/127) l Init: +1 l AC: 30 (44 v giants) [T: 12 (14); FF: 27; CMD: 29/33(43)] l Fort: +13 (+15), Ref: +7, W: +9 (+11) (All saves increase by +5 for p, sp, and spls) l DR: 5 (Adamantine) l Per: -1

The dwarven gods are woefully under-specified. But, I don't mind making things up whole clothe as long as they don't contradict the material that has been provided.

I’ve finished dumping everything from our google document and have been working on fleshing out character entries in the OP.

Omen did you have images for Heff and the rest of the Council?

Thanks Bjorkus!

I do not, they were characters I designed far before I started googling for images of my characters.

I think we're good to move on to the next morning whenever you're ready. Let's hope the divinitory big guns give us some decent Intel.

Yep. I'm ready to get the move on rescuing Ianna. Bjorkus, my Grandmother gave us a wand of healing, so now you have more than a burnt out stick.

Does Bjorkus have any sort of sense of what Sinafo knows about the aestherics? As far as the public is concerned Ares isn’t part of any ‘group’.

Considering he called Bjorkus "Ares", he doesn't seem to know about them.

Male Grizzly Bear 3 | HP: 30/30 l AC: 19 /T: 12/FF: 17 l Fort: +4, Ref: +5, W: +4 l Init: +2 l Per: +5; Low-light vision; Scent l Movement: 40

I'm confident that somewhere in Akropash there's a seedy bar that functions like a seedy bar.

Contrary to popular belief, a large number of the population does not enjoy being punched in the face for no apparent reason.

Considering you know exactly what kind of inn this was, I put all responsibility on you.

And you spent a whole night at one, beating up a bunch of thugs who ended up giving their lives for you.

Isn't this the place that hosted the fight club?

...No! This is the inn you guys got kicked out of for getting the place busted up by whitecloaks! Jaware, the owner, basically hates you because he got beaten half to death for protecting you.

Male Grizzly Bear 3 | HP: 30/30 l AC: 19 /T: 12/FF: 17 l Fort: +4, Ref: +5, W: +4 l Init: +2 l Per: +5; Low-light vision; Scent l Movement: 40

What?! Bah! I wanted to go to the bar that hosted the fight club to say some words for Boris and Talev after Bjorkus was done speaking with Sinafo.

Can we edit that part? The thing with Sinafo getting upset and storming off is fine but I got my locales mixed up.

Male Grizzly Bear 3 | HP: 30/30 l AC: 19 /T: 12/FF: 17 l Fort: +4, Ref: +5, W: +4 l Init: +2 l Per: +5; Low-light vision; Scent l Movement: 40

Ah ha! The Spider is the place that hosted the fight club.

Hehe, welp I f$$&ed up. Either way Sinafo's response would have been the same. Being at a seedy bar would have only made him more jumpy if anything.

Male Grizzly Bear 3 | HP: 30/30 l AC: 19 /T: 12/FF: 17 l Fort: +4, Ref: +5, W: +4 l Init: +2 l Per: +5; Low-light vision; Scent l Movement: 40

Yeah, that part's fine. I just don't want Jaware to hate us anymore than he already does.

We're waiting on me. I just got back to school and I'm getting integrated into the new semester.

Any exciting classes?

Bioethics seemed interesting in theory, but the first day my professor tried to teach us that there are "moral truths" which are just as correct and indisputable as scientific laws.

On another note, if you look under my default alias (CampinCarl9127) I've added a few very good snippets from some material I read yesterday that pertain well to adventuring groups.

Is he/she a natural law theorist? That sounds like claptrap one might hear at a Catholic university.

He is a philosopher. I'm trying to not be too judgemental yet considering it was only day 1, but I forsee some problems.

Philosophers come in all sorts of flavors. But I would be impressed if he could prove objective moral laws. If he can, he is probably being terribly underpaid.

OOG, I'm a little surprised by Vorn's passionate defense of Heff.

The only reason he's defending him is because he too understands the hardships that come with continuing to live as generations of friends die around you. He's not taking a stance on Heff's actions or ideals, only cautioning that Toramin may not fully understand the matter.

Also, I think you may misunderstand subjective reasoning.

OBJECTIVE arguments are often those that have to do with logos, that is, reason, evidence and logic, generally dealing with material questions (things that can be sensed or measured and have to do with the real outside world, outside of oneself).

SUBJECTIVE arguments are most often those dealing with the personal situation, feelings or experiences of a particular individual, family or group, and are usually arguments from ethos or pathos (though material subjective factors may involve arguments from logos as well).

I feel Toramin has a very objective view of the world, with a view exceptions for his race.

Is the meeting with the stones the following morning?

Are we handwaving Bjorkus's crash course on religion?

Male Dwarf Paladin (Stonelord) 11 l HP: 105/105 (127/127) l Init: +1 l AC: 30 (44 v giants) [T: 12 (14); FF: 27; CMD: 29/33(43)] l Fort: +13 (+15), Ref: +7, W: +9 (+11) (All saves increase by +5 for p, sp, and spls) l DR: 5 (Adamantine) l Per: -1

I would argue that objective reasoning is in fact never possible, outside of discussing pure reason, all other reasoning is intersubjective or subjective -- coming from a particular perspective and circumstances even when it deals with matters of evidence. It's interpretation all the way down. :-)

But that's what I believe -- as a philosopher. Toramin would probably cleave closer to your understanding as opposed to mine. So that was a slip of the tongue, but not exactly in the way you may have thought.

I just wanted to clarify my understanding of the scene, which may illuminate any potential confusion.

Vorn: Do you trust the Aestherics?

Toramin: Yes and no. It doesn't matter about the general population because they fall behind one of two people. One whom I find trustworthy and one who I don't. The one I don't trust dislikes our people and may ultimately be a threat to them.

Vorn: That's kinda harsh. I'm sure he has his reasons. Don't let you feelings cloud your judgment.

Toramin: Didn't you just ask for my personal take on this guy?

But when I was rereading the exchange, I thought we might have miscommunicated due to Vorn's focus on the democracy line which was only a lead up to the point that in the Aestherics only Alia and Heff's opinions seem to matter.

Otherwise, kudos on a very excellent scene. I got a lot out of it. Even if the Voices are even more of a sausage fest then I realized.
