Sehitha may not have fire or acid, but she's pretty smart!

Bjorkus continues to see blackness!

And then the doubt starts creeping in...will I see the bottom in another round? Is it just over 200 feet deep? Maybe a little more, about 500? Or is it miles down, going under the crust of the planet?...

I suppose he'll start worrying when he can't see the light from the surface.

To move without triggering an AoO they need to roll acrobatics checks that beat a 27 (my CMD) right?

Well they can still 5 foot step or retreat, but other than that yet yes. #4 will be able to 5 foot step and reach Sehitha since they have reach, but the other one is blocked off this round.

Four was the one I just laid the smack down to. So, hopefully it is down for the count.

There's a certain point where a hilarious AC is more trouble than it's worth. At some point, enemies with an INT above 4 say "You know, we're literally not even scratching him. Let's go kill something that we can actually kill."

Me and my I-told-you-so will just hang out over here. =P

In Toramin's defense, he did opt for a two-handed weapon instead of sword-and-board, thereby making it so he normally doesn't have a shield bonus.

That's totally not helping.

What does Bjorkus see at the bottom? Any impact craters from a giant?

Rilka: To be clear, there is no difficult terrain here.

Bjorkus: As I said, you can't make out any details yet. You darkvision just barely reaches the bottom.

Well the fight's going poorly. Four CR 4's and two CR 6's can do that. Imagine if they still had their CR 9 with them!

Sehitha and Rilka being in danger here sucks. Toramin could have soloed these guys pretty easily.

I'm a little confused about the troll waking up since he would be on his second round of suffocation and thereby be at -1 HP.

Male Dwarf Paladin (Stonelord) 11 l HP: 105/105 (127/127) l Init: +1 l AC: 30 (44 v giants) [T: 12 (14); FF: 27; CMD: 29/33(43)] l Fort: +13 (+15), Ref: +7, W: +9 (+11) (All saves increase by +5 for p, sp, and spls) l DR: 5 (Adamantine) l Per: -1

Them being in danger comes from them not following the plan.

In the first round, she falls unconscious (0 hit points). In the following round, she drops to –1 hit points and is dying. In the third round, she suffocates.

Last round, the first round Toramin, suffocated it, it couldn't hold it's breath and was already unconscious.

I don't think that troll would be waking up.

Male Grizzly Bear 3 | HP: 30/30 l AC: 19 /T: 12/FF: 17 l Fort: +4, Ref: +5, W: +4 l Init: +2 l Per: +5; Low-light vision; Scent l Movement: 40

I would suggest pitching the unconscious trolls into the pit but Bjorkus is currently down there.

The troll is only on his first round of suffocation, but you are right that it renders him unconscious. He is still unconscious and grappled.

Bjorkus wrote:

Still not a bad idea. It's a 300 foot drop, which means 30d6 damage. Even trolls would need a lot of time to regenerate from that.

Right. I'm more worried about trolls falling on me.

I realized where I made a mistake, thinking Rilka was dead. I forgot Rilka started the battle with full hp, not the 36/42 hp that was on the header. This accounts for the −6 hp discrepancy between DM Omen and me. Her new head with -7 reflects the fact that she failed the latest Constitution save.

The sad part if Rilka dies is that I feel like I let her down. She would have stayed with the plan. I’m the one that had her move too close. Sometimes the characters we make are smarter than the players.

I'm probably not going to be posting this weekend, at least not until sometime late on Sunday. Sorry for the delay.

Male Grizzly Bear 3 | HP: 30/30 l AC: 19 /T: 12/FF: 17 l Fort: +4, Ref: +5, W: +4 l Init: +2 l Per: +5; Low-light vision; Scent l Movement: 40

Thanks for the heads up.

I have to take a quick break from writing papers, so I figured I would try to sneak a post or two in.

Toramin when I write up the post for this round he will be on his second round of strangulation. I believe we are just viewing the timeline differently.

Ughhh, calculating Toramin's AC...he's in a defensive stance so his AC is normally 27. But giants are the ones attacking, so it's 31. However he's also in a grapple so his AC is 29...I think I've got that right.

Male Grizzly Bear 3 | HP: 30/30 l AC: 19 /T: 12/FF: 17 l Fort: +4, Ref: +5, W: +4 l Init: +2 l Per: +5; Low-light vision; Scent l Movement: 40

I believe he's:

25 normally
+4 for shield extract
+4 vs giants
+2 stance
-2 grappling

Total 33

Ah, I forgot the shield extract! Honestly I forgot that the entire fight (although it hasn't made a difference since only a nat 20 has hit him). So I should give this reminder to all.

If I do not have one of your effects underneath the Battle Tracking spoiler, than I either forgot about it or am not aware of it. That spoiler is there for your benefit as much as mine.

Male Grizzly Bear 3 | HP: 30/30 l AC: 19 /T: 12/FF: 17 l Fort: +4, Ref: +5, W: +4 l Init: +2 l Per: +5; Low-light vision; Scent l Movement: 40

That was an exceedingly unlucky crit.

Right? Two nat 20's in a row with a greataxe. Doesn't get much more "RNG hates you" than that.

Seeing as I think that's the only thing that actually hits Toramin, I must concur!

Toramin I will give you a brief chance to retcon if you wish, if coming close to death with two opponents still up would cause have caused you to surrender.

Can I retcon having ymir try to strangle the troll once I knocked it out?

Lord, that was a lot of nat 20s. :-)

You can, but the troll only did 5 damage which is negligible since the giant put you at less than -5 hp while in stance.

Male Grizzly Bear 3 | HP: 30/30 l AC: 19 /T: 12/FF: 17 l Fort: +4, Ref: +5, W: +4 l Init: +2 l Per: +5; Low-light vision; Scent l Movement: 40

Bah.

Well a dead troll is still better than a not-dead troll.

It worked out but apparently there are mechanics for catching someone above you while you're climbing. I never knew.

Quote:

Catch a Falling Character While Climbing

If someone climbing above you or adjacent to you falls, you can attempt to catch the falling character if he or she is within your reach. Doing so requires a successful melee touch attack against the falling character (though he or she can voluntarily forgo any Dexterity bonus to AC if desired). If you hit, you must immediately attempt a Climb check (DC = wall’s DC + 10). Success indicates that you catch the falling character, but his total weight, including equipment, cannot exceed your heavy load limit or you automatically fall. If you fail your Climb check by 4 or less, you fail to stop the character’s fall but don’t lose your grip on the wall. If you fail by 5 or more, you fail to stop the character’s fall and begin falling as well.

I'm assuming that's enough to get Rilka conscious. I tweeted him.

Yup, Rilka is up now.

Are there any kind of ledges that we could take a breather on?

How far from the top is Bjorkus currently?

Bjorkus is about 100 feet from the top.

There are some ledges. Nothing you can do a tap dance on, but a sit and rest is doable.

Male Grizzly Bear 3 | HP: 30/30 l AC: 19 /T: 12/FF: 17 l Fort: +4, Ref: +5, W: +4 l Init: +2 l Per: +5; Low-light vision; Scent l Movement: 40

I'm really hoping Rilka can diagnose what's up with Ianna.

Let's hope the trip back in quick and uneventful.

I don't think the two bodies and new loot will overload the bags by itself, but combined with previous things being kept it might.

I'll make sure you pick up another bag sometime. I like to make sure nobody is going over personal encumbrance (halflings with 6 strength wearing full plate), but I don't care much about party encumbrance.

Male Grizzly Bear 3 | HP: 30/30 l AC: 19 /T: 12/FF: 17 l Fort: +4, Ref: +5, W: +4 l Init: +2 l Per: +5; Low-light vision; Scent l Movement: 40

We have 600 lbs of extradimensional carrying. We should be good for now. Worst-case Bjorkus lugs around some stuff on his person for a while because he doesn’t carry much himself. That said another bag of holding wouldn’t be a bad idea for the future.

Are you waiting on us for something or just waiting for some free time IRL?
