I don't want to ruin anyone's immersion, but a lot of the pictures of NPCs are going to look slightly off in terms of race. Kthunk, for example, was a dwarf in the original adventure, and Maegen was a human. (Sadly, elves and gnomes are the only Triaxian races with long, flowing hair.)

Not certain how you're running illusions, but just to state how I expect/hope this spell to work- the illusion of a large box traps the enemies. Some of them make their save, pushing through the wall to fight; but that still leaves a third-to-half of the enemies trapped and able to be dealt with later as we pick off the rest.
Gark the Goblin |
The mob actually is a single swarm-like "creature" so it just makes one save. (It would be a really bad idea to roll all those d20s, anyway :P) Otherwise that would be how I run it, yeah.
Incidentally, I was asking a friend about the prison thing and he reminded me that the line of sight blockage would keep you from building the fake wall on the other side of the mist. It's not really worth retconning now but in the future I'll require that you have line of sight for illusions you make.
GM Gark |
Yeah, sure.
In other news I have both a midterm and a birthday today, so I'm probably not gonna have time to post in the thread today. You guys can post advance actions (probably safe to assume the mob
moves towards Aught's current position), or wait until tomorrow.
God dang I should really think before I post. Obviously, it's safest to assume they are trapped by the wall and don't break free.
And yeah, it is my birthday! Thank you c:
Gark the Goblin |
ahhhh, the wall, whoops!
my plainsrunner would presumably have run around it (unless it's possible for Podrick to create a momentary tunnel opening for them to trample through) so consider any trampling to have been done to portions of the mob that made it out (plus to Longarm McGnomey).
Well, the mob still moves after your turn, so they'll be stuck in for now. If they survive the gnome's AOOs, they'll get Will saves to run through.
Gark the Goblin |
Aught I just realized I've got no clue . . . What's your arcane bond? Do you have one?
Also re illusions: It doesn't seem game-breaking to allow Aught to swing through the wall in this fight, so we can keep using those rules for this fight.
I think in the future encounters, though, it'll work with the more conservative interpretation - you can't circumvent the concealment without making the Will save, and the illusion can't be altered until the caster's turn. It will still be possible to e.g. ready an action for the caster to make an opening, but honestly with the Will saves in this party there shouldn't be much of a problem.

Wut?
Worst case scenario: Nearly at end of adventure, will stop playing soon
Best case scenario: GM is hinting that he is terminally ill, we'll stop playing soon but we'll get campaign notes, background and everything needed to continue the campaign in his name if we so desire.
Gark the Goblin |
Yeah. We're on page 13/18, or thereabouts.
I'm open to suggestions for the future of the game - if there's interest, I'd be willing to start going "off the rails" or else find another old adventure with a similar theme and shove it into Triaxus as well. Or we might end the game at the end of the adventure.
Regardless, we've still got another week or two of combats and wrap-ups.
|Podrick| |
Huh; aye.
On a different note... any chance the adventure can end with us donning costume and storing into the stage as actors to change the story to a less-evil ending through special effects (spells) and fake narrative combat (real combat)?
"Now is the whale of our discontent... ME."
Winter Guard Aught |
Started getting real busy again. I'll be able to make a post this evening after work. I wouldn't mind putting on a whale and polar bear show. Possibly throw in some dance routines in a "this is how it really happened" alternate twist.

Well the costumes will definitely work, but I expect difficulty with the latter part, for reasons you'll soon discover.
Rynjin: Maybe. We'll see how this(ese) battle(s) play(s) out. There is still a chance of a TPK!
Aught: No problem; I've been fairly busy as well (though not quite so much as to warrant not posting :U).

I'm on my phone currently, but it's on the SRD. Dreamscarred Press' Stalker, from the Path of War.
Most of my abilities come from the Veiled Moon discipline, though I have a smattering from Broken Blade (Which is what gives me the extra attacks, the shield bonus granting Stance, and that thing I used to add 4d6 to all my attacks), Solar Wind (the only one of which I've used thus far is the thing I used to whack Kthunk with a tirnado), and some from Steel Serpent which I never use, barring Night's Knife which lets me add Heal ranks to damage for a round.

Horn |
Sorry for the hold up. It's a 3 day weekend for me--and a busy one with some guests--so not too much posting. Thanks for DMPCing me last 2 rounds. Fine choice. A couple questions (assuming Horn would know the answer):
- Can you tell me how you interpret the satyr's horns ability? It says "When he plays, all creatures within a 60-foot radius must make a DC 18 Will save or be affected by charm person, fear, sleep, or suggestion, depending on what tune the satyr chooses."
The interesting thing about that is it includes spells that target an area (e.g. fear), an individual (e.g. suggestion), and an amount of HD (sleep). I'm wondering how in particular sleep works in this context?
(I'm considering asking it to either put folks to sleep or suggest sitting quietly and taking no actions. If possible, I'd ask it to exclude us...if not possible I at least will auto-save vs it so can wake others or ask it to wake others.)
Thanks! If something like this comes up for me again I'll do my best to post in advance.
Gark the Goblin |
I was planning on interpreting it as, you really can put everyone to sleep (if they fail their saves), and you can suggest that everyone leave. It would affect the party along with everyone else in the radius, though, I think.
It's gonna be rough rolling all the saves for the crowd though. I might just take an expected value of the number that save and make those the squares closest to him. (Should be a pretty high number, since most attendees are under 4 HD.)
gyrfalcon |
Cool. Thanks for the ruling. And yeah...estimating for the crowd makes lots of sense.
Satyr plans to use Sleep (DC 18) then. Looks like it still has a standard to use. Did it make it as far as it's able to move? If it can move to within 60' of the actors on the stage, it'll Sleep this round. If it can't (but still has move left) it'll move as far forward as possible...at least another 20' since it has 40' move (halved due to some debuff) to be in better position for next round.
Rynjin |
I don't know. It is a mundane poison, and technically speaking the jacket produces it, not me.
However remember that it is a Resistance bonus anyway, so if she has a cloak it doesn't stack. Likewise if she has a Ring of Protection.
gyrfalcon |
Re satyr: makes sense, thanks.
Re poison: Interesting question. My gut said no but I think the answer is yes. Prot from Evil says "Both these bonuses apply against attacks made or effects created by evil creatures." Poisoner's Jacket says "Three times per day, the wearer of this dark jacket can create"
...which I think is clearly within the domain of Prot from Good/Evil.
Gark the Goblin |
But the DC is increased by you being the one to apply it, right?
Since the spell also has a clause for attacks from good creatures I'm inclined to think it works here. However, there's no immediate statistical effect unless someone else in the party starts giving her Dex damage, so I'm gonna wait a few hours and ask KC before retconning it.
And yeah, the spell doesn't stack, but it is higher than her base resistance bonus.
Edit: Ninjaed by gyrfalcon. In that case yeah I think the spell will work, and she'll barely make the save.
gyrfalcon |
yeah, I'd love to see poison be made worth it for a PC sometime, somehow.
I was (am) curious to see the vest in action...or (more generally) see a strategy that makes me think poisoning could be a reasonable (if not optimal) strategy. (I read a guide to making it work as an alchemist at some point I think, but've never seen it in practice.)
Rynjin |
The Alchemist probably has the best shot between Concentrate Poison and Lasting Poison (so DC +2, duration x1.5, and lasts on your weapon for a number of hits equal to your Int mod). Plus, there's a Discovery to also change a poison's form, so they could change say an Inhaled poison into an Injury, which makes for some potent combos.
I had hoped Poisoner's Stance (which increases the DC by half my level) would make them worthwhile, but even a DC 22 is way too low for 1d2 Dex or Str damage.
The Greater vest would be better, but it costs a whopping 58, 000.
Though a DC 27 Deathblade (since I'd need to be like 14th to afford it reaosnably) woud be potentially worthwhile.
Rynjin |
It would help. I'd have to see it in action to see if it'd be too much.
Essentially best case scenario you increase the DC by 4 and duration is doubled (you hit and they fail once, then fail the other 2 times).
The majority of the time, however, it would likely only increase chance of failing one of 3 checks.
gyrfalcon |
No objections here. Seems like it makes a weak ability (in the hands of PCs) somewhat less weak.
My only Q: while it's rarely effective for PCs to use poison, it can be potent when used *against* them. As a DM, I'd look at individual cases in the adventure and see if I wanted to apply this mod to them as well.)
Gark the Goblin |
So yeah, I'm pretty sure I won't be continuing after this adventure. The time expenditures are getting really outrageous, and I am completely unable to keep the pace I originally promised. I'd much rather end on the high note of finishing the adventure than have the game slowly decline in quality.
