GM Choon |
Your map will be updated tonight. Now proceeding into area H2
This massive hall hosts a vaulted ceiling fifty feet above,
supported by huge pillars of marble running down its center. The walls are lined with vaults, stacked in columns of eight, twenty feet high. Lavish murals occupy the thirty-foot stretch of wall above the vaults, depicting naval confrontations between Taldan and Qadiran ships to the east, and Taldan ships and what appear to be ghost ships to the west. The dominant ship in the painting appears in both battle scenes, its mainsail proudly flaunting the mocking medusa; a handsome figure clad in archaic captain’s uniform grips the rigging in one hand while he rallies his sailors by waving a falcata over his head. The man has thick white hair and a long beard divided into three braids.
A round after the you enter this room, a shimmering, ghostly figure drifts down from the western representation of the captain. He drifts down to float just a few inches above the ground
before the stairs, and addresses the you in a deep, commanding voice.
It is apparent that none of your assembly is of the blood, so I must conclude you are thieves. To avert my righteous vengeance and leave in peace, answer me these three questions. First, what was the name of my flagship? Second, how did my first darling wife die? And third, why is my eldest son’s body not here with us? All the information you need is within this chamber. I give you ten minutes
You may now make perception checks to seek the answer to his questions. Each check requires 1 minute of searching the room.
Ganorok "The Mouse" |
Ganorok can't od it by itself, but maybe he can help another
Aid Another Knowledge (History): 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
Ganorok bows towards the ghost.
"We came on orders of one of your distinguish descendants, and we can prove it. But we will answer your questions anyway."
Perception: 1d20 + 25 ⇒ (1) + 25 = 26
Perception: 1d20 + 25 ⇒ (5) + 25 = 30
Perception: 1d20 + 25 ⇒ (6) + 25 = 31
Taking, for starters, 3 minutes to search the room (mainly the murals)
In case of emergency he can try to bluff his way out of the "vengeance"
Amazing rolls!!!
In case there are distance penalties involved Ganorok has ways to remove/diminish them...
Glade Wolf |
perception: 24 + 1d20 ⇒ 24 + (14) = 38 taking 1 minute as Glade searches for answers.
If I have to search a specific thing, I will check the vaults.
Orionet Whitearmor |
Air Walk has a duration of 10 minutes/level, so I assume it's still going.
Orionet walks casually up to the mural where the Captain came out, then will look for other representations of the same man.
Perception: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (18) + 17 = 35
Perception: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (10) + 17 = 27
Perception: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (20) + 17 = 37
R The Vicious |
R stares intently at each depicted scene, hoping that his (very) amateur detective skills might pay off.
Perception: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (20) + 18 = 38
Perception: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (7) + 18 = 25
Perception: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (1) + 18 = 19
Maybe it's more obvious than we think?
GM Choon |
You all spread out and have the answers rapidly. Glade is the first to come back with the name of The Flagship: Pasco’s flagship was the Harlot, which he discover by checking the name of the ship painted on the mural.
Orionet finds Pasco’s Wife: Pasco’s first wife, Annavale, died in childbirth, which she deduces from the date of her death and the date of her son’s birth.
R finds the Eldest Son: Pasco’s eldest son died at sea—his name is recorded on the westernmost pillar with the austere words, “Pasco Voxus Adella II, 4138–4156, The Sea Reclaims Its Own.”
Ganorok then uncovers that Pasco’s second wife is buried here as well—“Eudocia, Beloved Wife, 4130–4192.”
Once the answers are given the spirit intones, Good! One should know of those who came before, and tread reverently. Disturb not these three tombs before you and I shall not vex you further. before fading away into nothingness.
Ganorok "The Mouse" |
"Nice guy! I think I like him."
Garonok takes a minute to make a quick prayer for his, and his family, souls.
"So let's see what is around besides quiz answers... And Galde, please, please, keep away from his family tombs."
Perception Roll: 1d20 + 25 ⇒ (4) + 25 = 29
R The Vicious |
Yeah, nicest ghosty I've ever met! Where to next?
GM Choon |
There are stairs in front of you and chambers to your right and left.
To the right:
A marble fountain, the basin of which resembles a huge shell, sits near the entrance to this room, its waters cascading from between the fingers of reclining mermaids. The chamber beyond is empty, save for a single sarcophagus at the far end of the room.
The sarcophagus bears an inscription that reads, “Commerce Is King and Courage His Queen". A bronze plaque on the sarcophagus reads, “Vespacio Voxus Adella, 4349– 4401.”
The fountain also bears an inscription reading "Brotherhood".
Inside the sarcophagus, you find a small crystal sphere containing a few teeth. It radiates protective magic (and operates as a ring of major elemental resistance [cold 30] that takes up the neck slot).
Ganorok "The Mouse" |
"Glade! Here, treasure! Over here boy!"
Ganorok tries to distract Glade, while going to check the left chamber...
Perception Roll: 1d20 + 25 ⇒ (2) + 25 = 27
GM Choon |
Glade - When you first drink, the sick feeling fades, then you pick up the second amulet - a crystal globe on a gold chain identical to the first you picked up. As soon as you touch the other amulet, however, a powerful surge of negatie energy rips through you!
DC 25 fort or take 2d6 ⇒ (2, 6) = 8 con damage. On a successful save, you take 3d6 ⇒ (3, 5, 6) = 14 negative energy.
Ganorok "The Mouse" |
"Guess he can't carry both of the family heirlooms at the same time... here, gave it to me, let's see how it affects me..."
R The Vicious |
No, to R first! Afterall, R has very strong tummy. Then we can try passing it to Mouse.
Glade Wolf |
when I drank the water, did I heal any Hp? If so, I would be at 102 instead of 96, because that would mean I healed and then took damage.
GM Choon |
The water just suppresses the nausea for 15 minutes.
The second requilary passes to R who suffers no particularly ill effects right away. However, as soon as you both leave the room, hate-filled thoughts begin to creep into your mind.
Both of you make DC 25 will saves or become possessed by the spirit of the requilary you carry and attempt to kill the bearer of the other requilary.
GM Choon |
Yes and yes. Your party members must subdue you and remove the requilary before you kill each other. I'm not going to be too strict about this as R is capable of dealing huge amounts of damage. I'll say you and R are flat footed to any of your other allies attempts to restrain either of you, representing your singular focus and to make it easier to tear you two apart.
R The Vicious |
Oops! Looks like a strong tummy was not the solution!
Will: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (1) + 9 = 10
Aaaahhhhh!
Orionet Whitearmor |
Orionet is still near the ceiling, finding walking above the ground amusing, but reacts with horror at the fighting of his two comrades.
Glade! R! No!
Ganorok "The Mouse" |
I will imagine R is not paying attention to Ganorok, and he is able to try a Sleight Of Hand on him to take the reliquary.
Sleight Of Hand Check DC 20: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (15) + 10 = 25
GM Choon |
With a deft hand and nimble fingers Mouse snatches the requilary from R's possession. Glade's wrath immidiately follows the thing and he attacks Mouse!
Mouse: DC 25 will or fall under the same possession.
Now that you are relieved of the requilary, you know that they are the spirits of the feuding Alellas twins that went so far as to field armies against each other and destroy an entire branch of House Adellas in a single day. Dousing the requilaries in one of the fountains will suppress their spirits and render the items safe to use for 15 minutes.
R The Vicious |
Those naughty spirits want to kill each other! Put them back! Put them back! Back in water!!! R implores the others. He anxiously watches Mouse to see if he falls prey to the possessing spirits.
Ganorok "The Mouse" |
Let's see if getting Iron Will as a Feat was worth it
Will Save: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (9) + 11 = 20
No, it wasn't...
Ganorok normally uses two weapons, so to fight he would normally drop the reliquary...
So do we roll for combat?
GM Choon |
Mouse- the spirit within compels you to hold onto the requilary, leaving one had free to fight until it can use an action to stash it in a pocket and draw the second weapon.
Mouse: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (9) + 11 = 20
R: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21
Orionet: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20
Glade: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (19) + 18 = 37
Init: Galde, R, Orionet, Mouse. Go!
Glade Wolf |
Glade moves to whoever he is drawn to and swings his morningstar hit: 23 + 1d20 ⇒ 23 + (9) = 32
dmg: 3d8 + 11 ⇒ (6, 8, 2) + 11 = 27 single attack, so vital strike applies
dmg: 1d8 ⇒ 8 acid.
lessen learned, next time I play this adventure, create a character that has 24 to will so I can't fail the save while my greedy person wears this item to his benefit.
Ganorok "The Mouse" |
Ganorok, mad with fury, attacks directly at Glade:
Claw (Small Adamantine Impervious Short Sword +2) Attack: 1d20 + 21 ⇒ (5) + 21 = 26
Damage: 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
I am playing it like Mouse is not really himself and won't play his strengths (little as they are).
Glade Wolf |
don't forget the additional acid damage ganorok, so really you took 35 damage, unless you are immune to acid. Not that I want to kill you but if this thing doesn't come off I may have to. Also if I went before you, you are now in melee, so you would be able to use all of your attacks, not just one. so you would be able to use your second bab or your 3rd bab.
Ganorok "The Mouse" |
Got it.. making the second attack.
Claw (Small Adamantine Impervious Short Sword +2) 2nd Attack: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (15) + 16 = 31
Damage: 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
R The Vicious |
R attempt to wrestle Glade down and drag him towards the fountain. His muscles bulge as he grabs Glade.
Grapple: 1d20 + 26 ⇒ (8) + 26 = 34
R is essentially pushing Glade towards the fountain.
You are not yourself, Glade friend!
Glade Wolf |
great, now I have to calculate my cmd. and ganorok you are suppose to actually hit me, not miss.
cmd=14bab+5str+10+8dex=37. I don't think you did.
after my init, orinet eventually went and did stone shape on me, and didn't provide me a link, I have to look it up. Okay after looking it up, it does what to a person?
the link is here stone shape
GM Choon |
Ok, a bit of arbitration. This won't be in exact Init order.
Glade and Ganorok have at each other. The fighter clearly has the upper hand as their compatriots leap into action. R tries to drag and push glade away toward the room and its fountain, but the raging Ifrit brushes him off. Suddenly, a rough sarcophagus of stone snaps up and around glade. Orionet's spell effectively entombes glade, but it's only a matter of time before the possessed warrior hacks his way out.
Round 2: Go! :)
R The Vicious |
I for sure did miss, but I think your CMD is off by 1 (making it 36). I might be off myself, but I can't figure out how you are getting the full 8Dex bonus (+1 armor, +3 Armor Traning, +3 Enhancement=7). It might just make a difference in the future?
R will now turn his attention to mouse, attempting to drag him to the fountain.
Grapple: 1d20 + 26 ⇒ (10) + 26 = 36
R's not going to hurt you! Just come now!
Approximate distance to the fountain? I'm assuming we are moved 15 feet closer?
Orionet Whitearmor |
Ok, I have to assume my strength of will is strongest here
R! Grab Mouse and pin him, but don't hurt him or take the treasure!
Once he's pinned Orionet will try to are it from Mouse.
Glade Wolf |
Glade will break down the obstacle in his way first, before he can go after the mouse. or that is what I think the character would do instead of trying to go around it or climb over it hit: 23 + 1d20 ⇒ 23 + (13) = 36 hit 2: 18 + 1d20 ⇒ 18 + (11) = 29
hit 3: 13 + 1d20 ⇒ 13 + (2) = 15
total damage if they all hit the object: 3d8 + 33 ⇒ (4, 6, 3) + 33 = 46 and add acid damage: 3d8 ⇒ (8, 3, 6) = 17
