Now that The Emerald Spire Superdungeon has been sanctioned for PFS play, I'd like to open recruitment for five (5) experienced Pathfinder Society players to create new first-level characters designed specifically to play through the entirety of the superdungeon.

The Hook:
For ages untold, a gemstone monolith has pierced the heart of the Echo Wood. Now, as civilization intrudes upon this enigmatic splinter, a strange life once again stirs in the depths—one with ties to undying evils and a might beyond time itself. The promise of wealth and power calls to glory-seekers from across the Inner Sea region, tempting them into a labyrinth of monster-haunted vaults, defiled tombs, arcane laboratories, and worse, as they seek to unveil the secrets locked below the legendary Emerald Spire.

The Logistics:
The way the Emerald Spire chronicle sheets have been designed, to run through the whole superdungeon, one should start at 2nd level. By the end of the 16 dungeon levels (with some levels played for slow credit), that character will reach 13th level by the end (I really think we need a different word than level...).

Since we need 2nd level characters, I'm open to running any 1st-level module or AP book that people would like to play to start things off, so please give your opinion when you submit your character.

Posting Speed:
I can't promise a huge number of posts per day, though I'd like 1 or 2 at least per person. Having said that, I also don't want this to take years and years, so I'll make some attempts to speed up play at various points. Long story short, I'd like a nice mix of pace and RP, if that makes any sense.

Recruitment:
I likely won't have many chances to look at this over the weekend, so it will be open through Tuesday morning at a minimum. I'll give some notice as to when I'll close after that point.

About Me:
I'm a 2-star PFS GM who has been roleplaying for about 2 years now. I run a weekly game over Skype with friends from college, and I'm pretty new to PbPs here on the forums (though I've done some on other sites).

Please let me know if you have any other questions!

Grand Lodge

Count me interested (as a veteran of both Pfs and on these boards)

I will most likely submit a Warpriest as i have yet to play one on these guys (currently playing an arcanist, a shaman and an investigator)

No idea on the blessing / deity.
(here are the ones i like: Healing , Liberation, Plant, Travel, Trickery)

I think that I'll roll a bloodrager :-)

Also, FWIW, the chronicles *are* arranged in such a way that you don't need to start at level 2 - you can play from 1st level all the way through to 13th level (or at least, that is how John Compton presented it to the VOs) :-)

Ahh yes, I should've been more clear—based on the difficulty of such things in the past, I thought it might make sense to try to be the highest level possible for each dungeon level. Also open to discussion about it though!

I'm in! To keep the ACG theme going I think I'll try making a Slayer or Investigator. As for a First level mod I wouldn't mind playing Godsmouth heresy though I'm good with starting Emerald out at 1st.

Grand Lodge

I don't mind playing a 1st level module first.
(i have played in service to the lore, and godsmouth heresy and crypt of the silver flame) I don't mind replaying any of them.

I think the confirmation is also a level 1 module

Sounds fun! I have no idea what I'll build yet (I have many, many PFS concepts and builds planned out I haven't created) but this would be great.

I have no preference what 1st-level-module we run, though I'd like for it to be something replayable (anything 1-2 tier). Thornkeep 1 is perfect for this.

Possible Builds:

  • Crossblooded Blood Conduit Bloodrager
  • Exploiter Wizard (Possibly becoming a Mystic Theurge)
  • Blade Adept Eldritch Knight
  • Halfling Eldritch Scion Magus (Destined Bloodline/Halfling Luck feats)
  • Shield Champion Brawler
  • Summoner (No archetypes really needed)

I have to decide which one...

  • Grand Lodge

Go with the Shield Champion Brawler in order to keep the ACG concept Morphling :)

All of those concepts but one were ACG! :P

Would it be OK to use a character with a single XP? I have an Aasamir, with 1 GM chronicle, I was thinking of building into a Shaman.

    Should be fine.

    Lantern Lodge

I'd be willing to roll with an investigator.

I'd like to throw myself in front of this one. I've been wanting to play an Emerald Spire since I got my hands on it. I was debating GMing a 4th game on here, but as a player? Sign me up!

To keep in the ACG themes, I would like to play either a Hunter or a Warpriest. Since Algar has already "claimed" the warpriest position, I'll build up a hunter first, with a warpriest as backup.

While I would like to jump right in to Emerald Spire, if you want to have a starter game to bring everyone up to snuff, I would be fine with just about anything.

    Grand Lodge

Just of the sake of argument:

the magus and wizard wouldn't qualify even if you are using an archetype from the ACG :)

so you are left with the Arcanist Blade Adept, the bloodrage and the brawler (mouhahaha)

    ----

And Hellloooo Daway it's been a while :)

    --------

This is a rough 1st draft of the build

    Warpriest 1
    Medium Half-orc / Humanoid (Half-orc)
Init +1; Senses Perception +4, Darkvision 60 ft
    ==DEFENSE==
    AC 19, touch 11, flat-footed 18 (+6 armor, +2 shield, +1 dex)
    hp 8 (1d8)
    Fort +4, Ref +3, Will +7
    Armor Steel Lamellar, Medium
    Shield Heavy Steel Shield
Defensive Abilities Sacred Tattoo (PFAPG 19)
    ==OFFENSE==
    Spd 20 ft/x4
    Melee Longsword +5 (1d8+4) 19-20/x2 CM +1
    ==STATISTICS==
    Str 18, Dex 12, Con 10, Int 10, Wis 16, Cha 8
    BAB +0, CMB +4, CMD +15
Feats Armor Proficiency (LIGHT / MEDIUM / HEAVY) (PFCR 118), Endurance (PFCR 122), Weapon Focus (Longsword) (PFCR 136-137)
Skills Perception +4, Sense Motive +7
Traits Fate's Favored (Faith) (PFUCgn 55), Magical Talent (Magic) (PFAPG 329)
    Languages Common, Orc

(still one feat to chose: don't have any idea yet)

    The Exchange

I'd be interested. I have an Ifrit boon I've never gotten to play with that I'd like to rebuild as a swashbuckler.

    Scarab Sages

I'd like to play this one as well. I'm thinking Shaman (Heavens, cause I like the idea of Heaven's leap)

I'm not against starting this at lvl 1 (to not dilute the flavor of this super dungeon by having started with something else first but dive right in), but I am also not against playing a module/AP first (Crypt of the Everflame or the PFS legal part of Reign of Winter/Mummy's Mask would be nice since I haven't played those yet, but any of the repayable ones are fine if I get to play Emerald Spire after that ;)

    Pathfinder Roleplaying Game Superscriber

    I am very interested!

I'm not wedded to the ACG idea, but I am interested in trying an investigator, a swashbuckler, a brawler or an exploiter wizard, more or less in that order.

As for how to start, I'd prefer straight Emerald Spire. Let's get right to it!

I am interested as well. I have my name on a couple wait lists for this AP, but would love to be able to remove myself by getting accepted into one :)

i have a kitsune swashbuckler level 1 available who is PFS sanctioned...or if we are simply making level 1 peeps in general then I may go another route.

    Dark Archive

Very interested. I'm going to submit Red Rilla, a halfling arcanist (white mage) from Egorian whose family loyalty to Zarta Dralneen leaves her serving the Dark Archive in spite of Zarta's goals not exactly aligning with Red's own outlook or worship of Korada. Red can help fulfill both an arcane role and a healing role on the group and meets the all-ACG angle!

I'd be game for any of the 1st level modules or APs, but I think I'd put Mummy's Mask at the top of the list. Murder's Mark might also be fun since the roleplay gives a chance to develop character personalities before we head into the dungeon. I'd also be open to simply following the path as recommended with us starting at 1st level and going slow track at the recommended times.

This sounds like a blast! I've got two good character ideas that I think could fit in well:

Martina Tristram is the half-elven bastard of a Taldan noble, seeking to make a name and fortune for herself beyond the reach of her family's embarrassment. She fills a solid front-liner role.

    Spoiler:
Martina Tristram, Half-Elf Cavalier 1, Order of the Cockatrice

    N Medium humanoid (Half-Elf)

    Init +2; Senses Perception +3

    Defense

    AC 19, touch 12, flat-footed 17 (+5 armor, +2 Dex, +2 shield)

    hp 12 (1d10+2)

    Fort +4, Ref +2, Will +1

    Offense

    Speed 30 ft.

    Melee
    Longsword +4 (1d8+3 Slashing, 19-20)
Heavy Shield Bash +4 (1d4+3 Bludgeoning)
    Ranged

    Statistics

    Str 16, Dex 14, Con 14, Int 10, Wis 12, Cha 13

    Base Atk +1; CMB +5; CMD 15

    Traits
Monster Hunter: +1 Attack/Damage rolls against aberrations and magical beasts
Bully: +1 Intimidate, Intimidate is always a class skill.

    Feats
Skill Focus: Intimidate, Swap Places, Power Attack

    Skills
    Diplomacy +5, Handle Animal +5, Intimidate +8, Perception +3, Ride +6, Sense Motive +5

    Languages Common, Elven

    Special Qualities
Low-Light Vision: Half-elves can see twice as far as humans in conditions of dim light.

Elf Blood: Half-elves count as both elves and humans for any effect related to race.

Elven Immunities: Half-elves are immune to magic sleep effects and get a +2 racial saving throw bonus against enchantment spells and effects.

Keen Senses: Half-elves receive a +2 racial bonus on Perception skill checks.

    Combat Gear
Scale Mail, Heavy Wooden Shield, Longsword, Warhammer, Cold-Iron Dagger, 4 vials of Acid, Cavalier's Kit (animal feed (5 days), a backpack, a bedroll, a belt pouch, a bit and bridle, a flint and steel, an iron pot, a mess kit, a riding saddle, rope, saddlebags, soap, torches (10), trail rations (5 days), and a waterskin), 24gp.

My other idea is Sabina Fueges, a Chelaxian refugee who has been wandering the River Kingdoms as a healer and who seems to avoid staying in one place too often, lest she find trouble with the locals. I've been wanting to play and Oracle for quite some time now, and the Flame Mystery, while not the strongest mechanically, is really interesting to me.

    Spoiler:
    Human Oracle of Flame 1

    LN Medium humanoid (Human)

    Init +2; Senses Perception +0

    Defense

    AC 17, touch 12, flat-footed 17 (+5 armor, +0 Dex, +2 shield)

    hp 10 (1d8+1+favored class)

    Fort +1, Ref +0, Will +3

    Offense

    Speed 30 ft.

    Melee
    Spear +2 (1d8+2 Piercing)
    Cold Iron Dagger +2 (1d4+2 Piercing/Slashing; 19-20)
    Ranged

    Statistics

    Str 14, Dex 10, Con 14, Int 10, Wis 12, Cha 18

    Base Atk +0; CMB +2; CMD 12

    Feats

    Skills
    Climb +6, Diplomacy +8, Heal +5, Knowledge: Planes +4, Knowledge: Religion +4
    Languages
    Common

    Combat Gear
Scale Mail, Cold Iron Dagger, Spear, Heavy Wooden Shield, 2 Flasks of Holy Water, 2 Flasks of Acid, Backpack, Bedroll, 50 feet of Hemp Rope, 6 days of trail rations, waterskin, 9gp, 9sp.

    Revelations
    Touch of Flame 1d6 (7/day), Fire Breath 1d4 (2/day)

    Sovereign Court

This is Tarondor, above. I'd like to submit Barrakhan, an Osirian half-orc bastard who has learned to control his inner ferocity by a life-long dedication to logic. Unwelcome at home, he has made a name for himself as a detective and investigator of some renown.

Dotting for interest....I have a character with 1xp of GM credit that I'll build into something...

    Sovereign Court

    Dear Expedition Organizer,

May I present to you Laird Jon Hawthorne; our most talented and promising young explorer. He is as comfortable underground as he is on the surface, and his skill with the longbow is beyond measure. It is with great reluctance that I spare him for such a long and potentially dangerous adventure; however I feel the experience he will gain will be shadowed only by the glory he will earn for the empire.

    Sincerely,

    Lady Gloriana Morilla

Dotting, also a word of advice to those who intend to use a character with 1 xp: If your xp is not divisible by three you cannot go on the slow progression at the proper times in order to do the entirety of the Emerald Spire on a single PFS character.

I wouldn't mind throwing my hat into the ring with a halfling warpriest of desna. I'll work on stating her up here shortly.

Going with the Dhampir, specifically an Arcanist with the Unlettered Arcanist and Blood Arcanist Archetypes.

Statistically the character is complete, but needs to be geared, will work on background shortly.

    All,

I'm going to close recruitment at 12:00am EST tonight (for expressing interest) and 12:00am tomorrow night (for finalizing a character).

For simplicity's sake, I'll heed Dylos's warning and say that these should be new characters with no XP attached to them. That'll just make things easier so we don't have to worry about running into problems later on.

Please let me know if anyone has any questions!

Good luck to all those running for a spot...

Evan Whitefield here finally checking back in with a completed character. After stating out hundreds of different ideas I settled on:

    Jubal Early
    Life Spirit Shaman 1
    NG Male, Gnome
    PFS #5331-14
    The Exchange

Role: I'll be playing him as a dedicated healer (a first for me) with a little back up blasty fire magic.

Concept He quasi worships Phoenixes and believe it is through their spirits that he gains his power. Not surprisingly his Spirit Animal is a thrush with bright orange plumage named Phoenix. Still filling in the details though.

    Dark Archive

    Eirlys should be finished now.

    Eirlys
Unlettered Elemental Water Blood Arcanist 1
    LN Female, Dhampir
    PFS 53304-11
    Dark Archives

Role: Blaster, and self healing - Note that this is sightly more difficult with the Unlettered Arcanist archetype because I have no offensive cantrips and limited damage spells available. I intend to rectify this with the Pathfinder Savant PrC later on. Due to inability to do much at first level, she has a crossbow. She is also fairly good at disguises, but I don't think that will come up.

Interested. I have a number of character concepts buzzing about which I could bring to the table. Will have to debate which seems most suited for a Dungeon Crawl.

    Grand Lodge

I am very interested as well. I have a level 3 PFS character and a few level 1 characters as well. Lacaw would be down for the challenge. I have so much free time on my hands these days and I'm looking to join another game or three! :) I also have a fresh Warpriestess of Pharasma (level 1 no xp) that could join. Thanks for your consideration! :)

    Silver Crusade

    Revvy Bitterleave's character here

..I went with a life school necromancer. Role: Support (small buffs, temp hp, bit of healing, Knowledge skills

    @Alex and Lacaw,

Sorry but, I think recruitment is closed guys.

    list so far:

Only listed completed characters that I saw.
Also this was done really quickly so sorry if I missed anyone

    Algar – Half-Orc Warpriest
Red Rilla – Halfling Arcanist (white mage)
Spectrevk – Half-Elf Cavalier or Human Oracle of Flames
    Taraondor – Half-Orc Investigator
    Jon Hawthorn – Human Ranger
    TobiasBlues – Halfling Warpriest
Dylos – Dhampir Arcanist (Unlettered/ Blood)
    Tranquio – Human Arcanist
    Evan Whitefield – Gnome Shaman
Revvy Bitterleave – Half-Orc wizard (Life Necromancer)

That list looks correct to me. I'll have my choices probably by the end of the day, and we'll likely get started tomorrow.

    Thanks all!
