Rataji the Resourceful |

Was Rataji's Knowledge Local not high enough to get an answer for what the big ugly is? How about the words in goblin? Is he the singer? Did she notice anything off her prior perception roll?
Unable to get to the big Ugly this round, Taj double moves to keep a charge lane clear for Rodrak and to provide a flank to Oskar.
Get rid of the little ones, and then we can join forces to fight big bad.
This double movement should provoke an attack of opportunity from the goblins, if they're foolish enough to take it.
Parry: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14
If Parry, then Riposte: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24
Crit?!: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8 Sigh.
Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
If the attack comes from the goblin Taj is flanking, add +2 to the attacks above.

GM Woran |

Havent heard from Rodrak. Its been insanely hot here in the Netherlands, so he might have just burned up. The heat really did a number on my brain power, so apologies Rataji for forgetting your knowledge check. I'll delay Rodrak for now and proceed.
Justin: Goblins arent known for their stellar mind.
will save yellow: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (4) - 1 = 3 So another daze is very effective. Yellow is dazed.
Eldira: Even tough the dwarf is lage enough, the drafts caused by the fire upset your aim. Miss, the riceroller really dislikes you :(
Rataji: Snowflake's comment rings true with you. What your father does to inspire others, this ugly goblin seems to use its words to inspire madness and murder in its fellow goblins. Well, MORE madness and murder. Goblins are not very sane to begin with...
Its gross song about hacking dogs to pieces and eating them raw with hide and hair is definitely making the other goblins more... focused.
I have no idea how you walked and how it provoked, if you walked around the back of the cart it only should provoke from the singing goblin? If you moved at the top of the cart it only should provoke from red? Every goblin that can, will make an attack of opportunity, they are dumb after all. Let me know and I'll post the attacks of opportunity as soon as possible.
Extra ugly goblin: Perhaps a tad smarter then the other goblins, this one has a whip to stay out of range. Eyes gleaming while singing, it attacks Rataji who has conveniently walked into range.
whip trip attack: 1d20 ⇒ 14
With deftness that you would not expect from a goblin, the whip curls around Rataji's feet, knocking her prone.
Townspeople: Continuing to retreat, most are starting to leave the square.
Man with big stick: Not everyone has made it out of the square yet, so he continues to cover their retreat.
Round 9
Initiative order:

*Sorry, was unexpectedly home very late yesterday*
Rodrak steps forward so that his Warhammer can just reach the Extra Ugly Goblin but others can step in front of him, using the extra reach afforded by his size.
He takes a swing at the Extra Ugly Goblin, figuring that he is some kind of leader figure.
Attack - Warhammer: 1d20 + 4 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 4 + 1 + 1 = 92d6 + 4 ⇒ (4, 4) + 4 = 12

GM Woran |

I'm delaying Oskar for now, as I'd like to keep combat flowing. Its a long fight, and keeping things going hopefully prevents it from becoming tedious. I know from my own experience when combat drags on with long times between posts, it de-motivates a lot.
Rodrak: Whatever gods these little buggers pray to, it must be on their side, as the very ugly goblin manages a nice dodge, avoiding the hammer completely.
New Goblins: Seeing as its attack with the torch failed, red draws his dogslicers instead and attacks Oskar.
attack red: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6 dogslicer damage: 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
Yellow only stands there, drooling a bit. Dazed
Blue, after its fiery succes, goes for a second attack against Oskar with his torch.
attack blue: 1d20 ⇒ 19 torch damage: 1d2 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Having had previous fiery succes, blue succeeds again, deeling 2 blunt damage and an additional 1 fire damage 3 damage in total
Round 10

Oskar 7 damage, delay

I might have to rethink my career in archery

Rataji the Resourceful |

Did the goblins trigger the AoO Parry and Riposte earlier, or did Justin daze mine before I provoked? I was hoping I'd actually managed to damage one.
Taj gets up, hoping that she can at least keep one of the attacks of opportunity off as she gets up.
Parry: 1d20 + 5 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 5 + 1 + 2 = 24
If Parry, Riposte: 1d20 + 5 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 5 + 1 + 2 = 16
Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9

GM Woran |

Herp derp, let me see if red can make something of that attack of oppurtunity. attack, still with torch: 1d20 ⇒ 15 damage: 1d2 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2 Ok. Wow. The forum gods must love these goblins... Your parry was 14, and the goblin rolls a 15 which is an actual hit... So 2 blunt +1 fire damage for a total of 3 damage on Rataji retro active.
Oskar: Small creatures still arent your forté. Your fist swings wide over the goblins head.
Justin: goblin will save: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (10) - 1 = 9
Again clouding the goblins mind is an effective stratagy. Red ends up standing dazed, drooling from the corner of its mouth.
Eldira: You've not been the religious sort, but you are starting to consider praying to whatever it is these goblins worship, because it seems to be very effective. Another miss :(
Rataji: Standing up, blue tries to hit you with its torch. torch attack: 1d20 ⇒ 14
It swing goes wide, and you strike back, piercing it trough the troat. With a bloody gurgle and a few spasms, the goblin falls on the ground, bleedy out in mere seconds. Blue is dead!
The ugly goblin however thinks you look better lying down, whip trip AOO: 1d20 ⇒ 10, but fails.
Extra ugly goblin: Seeing its new trip fail, it becomes very mad (but continues singing).
Rataji, having evaded the whip, is still the target of its ire. It casts a spell! will save for Rataji: 1d20 ⇒ 17
But she shrugs is off, no problem.
Townspeople: Most townspeople have left the square, only father zanthus and the wounded remain, moving slower.
Man with Big Stick: Keeps covering the retreat.

When it hits, it hits gooooood
Rodrak: Distracted by Rataji, the extra ugly goblin does not see the mighty swing coming. With a resounding *thud* the hammer crashes down, squishing the goblin into a pulp. This classifies as extra dead :P
New goblins: With the crash, and the ending of the song, yellow looks over its shoulder, and pales. Suddenly screaming in terror, it flees as fast as it can, away from Rodrak. This provokes from Oskar

Oskar Dragenaev |

Enlarged by Justin’s magic, Oskar snaps a kick at the goblin still left by him.
“Enough of this little rovhul.”
Attacking Red. If memory serves, I’m at a wash on my attack, -1 from size cancels out the extra +1 from higher Str. EDIT: nope, this is an AoO against Yellow when he tried to run.

Yellow runs past Oskar in fright. The goblins forward momentum drives it straigt into the half ogers fist.
The force of the blow makes the small body wheel on end before landing several feet away. It doesnt move anymore.
Red just stands there drooling like a broken water fountain, providing Rataji the oppurtunity to strike it over the head.
It looks for a moment that red wont fall over, but eventually the hit seems to register, and the body flops to the ground, unconscious.
The cart where you are all standing around has caught serious fire by now. Luckily it stands on it own. It seems best just to let it burn out.
Meanwhile the villagers continue to filter out of the square.
Here and there, the sounds of battle, clanging swords, calls of support by the town guard, and shrieking and singing goblins echo through the streets, but at the cathedral square, its quiet for now.
We are out of initiative

Rataji the Resourceful |

Rataji pulls out rope and starts tying up her prisoner. "What's going on with the goblins? Have you ever seen them attack like that? In broad daylight?" Then she grins to the others. "You know, we make a pretty good team. This was a scary fight, but you guys were awesome!" Then she grins to Vy. Although still wounded, she's cheerful, the fire in her air having died down to the merest hint of smoke. "Especially you, bro!"

Oskar Dragenaev |

Oskar nods in agreement at the girl's assessment. "I been in worse fights than that." Didn't even have to pull out my special little trick. I can save that for next time, I guess. As he looks at Rataji, there's a brief flash of alarm, Her hair's on... no hold up, boss, it's supposed to do that. That's how this all started, remember?

Hawkshaw |

Vy thinks of a green meadow, in a glade, opens his eyes, and than yells.
"Hosk, Hold up for one moment!"
He helps Taj up, and keeps holding her hand while he walks up to the ranger.
"Gather your wounded. This will tide them over till they'll reach safety"
Vy taps a holy symbol of Eristil around his neck, while he speaks a soft prayer.
Light burst around him
Channel Positive Energy: 1d6 ⇒ 1
oh well

GM Woran |

Hosk is already out of the square, still covering the back of the group. They hold still for only a moment and he nods gratefully.
"Thanks kid. Yeh did good. We're going to get the children to safety and gear up at the barracks. Then we'll kick these buggers out of town."
At Justin's words, the face of the man grows dark and he grips his stick more tightly. He bends over, face grim. "Well, best I dont see you at the stable then. We kill vermin over here dont you know?"
He spits on the ground at Justin's feet and starts leading the villagers away again.

![]() |

This "vermin" is doing more to protect your town than most of your town. If I were you I'd be sending scouts out to look for their main force and find out what these were distracting us from, Or perhaps track these back to where they split off from a larger group. Neither one involves attacking the people trying to help you."
Prestidigitates the spit off his foot.

Rataji the Resourceful |

Vy's healing feels good. She squeezes her brother's hand in appreciation.
"Agreed..." Taj mouths "Thank you" to Oskar, then steps smoothly between Hosk and Justin. "Please forgive our friend Justin. He did fight bravely to defend Sandpoint, dazing goblins, enlarging my comrades Oskar and Rodrak. But the stress of battle can make anyone edgy. Thank you for taking care of the children." She grins at Luka. "Our buddy Luka is with you, but is it alright if we pick him up afterwards? I believe that I owe Luka a pie, or some other kind of dinner!"
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (14) + 9 = 23
"Luka, if they release you early, come find us at the Rusty Dragon! You can meet my Dad, one of the best storytellers you'll ever see!"
Once Hosk leaves she looks at Justin, and says, ever so gently, " Ξέρω ότι δεν υφίστανται τους ανόητους πρόθυμα , αλλά μπορεί να σας παρακαλώ να προσπαθήσετε για χάρη μου , ο φίλος ; Όταν είσαι διαφορετικός , όπως είμαστε , είναι καλύτερα αν η πόλη είναι στο πλευρό σας . "
"I know you don't suffer fools gladly, but can you please try for my sake, friend? When you're different like we are, it's better if the town is on our side."

"These were mighty brave gobs, but once the big singing one got squished they were down and out. Seems a thing...I still think we should have a chat with the villagers about the local pests."
He starts going back to his usual size with the magic wearing off.
"Thanks for the teamwork. We meshed pretty well back there. Wouldn't mind sticking together till we get this whole gob-mess sorted out."

Rataji the Resourceful |

"Then let's do it! It sounds like there's still a problem out there. Should we help out with the cleanup?" Looking over the rest of the group, she realizes there's one person she hasn't formally met yet. She holds a hand out to Eldira. "It would be great to have an archer on our side! My name is Rataji, but my friends call me Taj. This fine dwarf is Rodrak, and this sharp-tongued fellow is Justin." Then she gestures to Oskar and Vy. "This handsome furry fellow is my brother, Snow, and the cute one with the tusks is Oskar."

"Please tell me someone here knows how to track so i don't have to do what i think i'm about to have to do?" and Prods a goblin foot out of the red gooey mess that used to be the goblin and gives it a sniff.

GM Woran |

Hosk looks ready to give Justin a piece of his mind, but Rataji's interference makes him hold his words.
Rataji gets a curt nod. "Thanks for helping, these goblins were surprisingly sturdy. Also, something else then a goblin must have led them. While they can organise under a strong leader, I have never seen or heard of them to lie in ambush with so many opportunities passing them by. This is no normal raid. Stay safe out there"
Giving Justin a death glare, Hosk turns on his heel and leads the villagers away.
Picking up the goblin feet, it is positively rank. Some kind of sandal is still on the foot, the leather filthy with grime and old sweat.
Sniffing about, here at the square the scent of goblin is the strongest around the tent and the cart they were hiding in/under.

Taj hands a handkerchief to the sneezing Justin. "If you can't pick up the scent, maybe we should let Snow try? He's a fair tracker."
Then she looks at her tied up goblin. "Or, we could use smelling salts or something to wake this guy so we can question him. Does anyone know of an alchemical supply store around here that might have them on hand?"

"Or, we could use smelling salts or something to wake this guy so we can question him. Does anyone know of an alchemical supply store around here that might have them on hand?"
Oskar perks up. “Now yer speakin’ my language, lady. Let's take… scratch that. We'll keep the goblin here. Rod, if he gets too antsy, feel free to smack some calm into him with that hammer. Taj, wanna come with?”
As they walk, Oskar says to the girl, “My old man used ta say, ‘Never let a goblin near the fire.’ Course, he used to follow that with, ‘Or a dwarf near the whiskey’, but our new friend wouldn't’ve cared for that. But yeah, I work at Bottled Spirits, the alchemy shop here. I do a little bit of everything there, up to and including keepin’ Nisk - that's the proprietor - from turning Sandpoint into a big-ass crater.”
When they get to the store, Oskar lets himself in. Without even breaking stride, Oskar heads for the storeroom, calling out, “Nisk! There was trouble in town, need a little something here.”
If Nisk shows his face, Oskar says, “Rataji, my boss, Nisk. Nisk, this is Rataji. Don't mind the smoke, it's apparently a thing she does.”
Oskar emerges from the storeroom with a bottle of smelling salts. “Either this is on the house ‘cuz yer gonna do the right thing in a time of crisis, or go bill the Mayor or somethin’.” Turning back to Rataji, he says, “Shall we?”

GM Woran |

Walking from the square to the alchemist, it becomes clear sandpoint is not safe yet.
A group of militia, dressed in simple leathers and holding simple swords, is lead by a town guard, sweeping the alleys for stragglers.
The houses here are packed close together, so hiding places are plenty.
Turning onto Raven street, you freeze for a moment as up ahead you see a goblin jump from a roof, aiming at the man walking in front of you. Dogslicer gleaming, it misses by an inch, cracking its head open on the pavement.
Turning around, the man nearly jumps out of his skin, but then immediately whacks the goblin with the stick he is holding. By the time it takes you to move up, the goblin is nothing more then a bloody pulp and the man rushes off again.
When you reach 'Bottled Solutions', it looks closed.
Nisk, the true hero that he is, has closed the shutters and locked and barricaded the door.
When you bang on it, you faintly hear a shriek of fear, followed by some items falling over.
After a moment, he realises you are not goblins come to slay him and he calls trough the door.
"Whaddaya want?! I'm not opening up. Find your own hiding place!"

Rataji the Resourceful |

"Your boss sounds like a sweet guy." Taj raises her eyebrows impossibly high at Oskar. "We're not hiding, Nisk. We're collecting goblin scalps. All we need is one jar of smelling salts. Throw it out one of the windows and then you can close the shutters again, still safe and sound, protecting your valuable merchandise. What do you say, Nisk?"
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (6) + 9 = 15

Oskar Dragenaev |

Oskar makes a face in kind back at Rataji. "You have no idea..."
He whacks the door with his fist, not so much knocking as hitting it. "Nisk, it's Oskar. Cut the crap, okay? Need to get somethin' outta the back, then you can go back to hidin' under the floorboards."

GM Woran |

Rataji the Resourceful |

Taj grabs the bottle. "Thanks, Nisk! I won't forget your hospitality here!" After they've left the shop behind, she laughs. "Is he always like that? You must have the patience of a saint!" She follows Oskar back through the streets of Sandpoint to the where the others are waiting, pleased to have a native guide who knows the neighborhood so well. Nice shoulders too. Big. Solid. "By the way... thanks for your help. With everything."

"Thanks, Nisk! I won't forget your hospitality here!"
Oskar glowers at the door, as if trying to burn it down with his gaze. "Yeah, I won't forget it either, Nisk!" Boom! One more time thumping the wall, in a spot calculated to make more noise than anything else.
"B'fore I forget..." Oskar goes around to the back of the store, and nods up at the second story window. "I got the room over the back." He quickly climbs the outside wall, disappears inside his window, and comes back momentarily with his shield strapped to his back. "Wouldn't do to forget that."
I'd made a note before of not having had it, I wanted to rectify that.
"Is he always like that? You must have the patience of a saint!"
As they briskly move back to the others, Oskar thinks about it a second. "That... was about what I'd expect from Nisk, when I think about a situation like this. And, uh, let's just say there's a decent amount of shoutin' that goes on when the customers ain't there. He's a bulette-sized pain in the ass, but workin' there lets me indulge in certain... practices of mine, we'll call it."
"By the way... thanks for your help. With everything."
He shrugs, as if she'd thanked him for passing the salt. "Yeah, sure. Hell, you n' yer brother are helping out pretty fiercely for having been here what, an afternoon, tops?"
