Fyrid shakes his head at Aerndyl, who then opens the door to reveal a length of corridor stretching to the west. Two doors, about halfway down, stand to either side of the corridor and a third door blocks further passage at its terminus.

Fyird Olaafson |

Fyird reviews the hallway before entering carefully looking for any traps that might have been laid.
1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15 Perception
He then goes to the first door on the right (If no traps are found), and listens for activity behind the door.
1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15 Perception.

Fargus flings open the door, ready for anything. This ruined chamber stands empty of all but a litter of rocky debris.

Fyird Olaafson |

Never one to take things at face value, Fyird holds up one finger, and heads into the room for a quick once over before moving on to the next door.
1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26 Perception - room
If nothing shows up he'll move to the door at the end of the corridor and listen.
1d20 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10 Perception - door

![]() |

The opposite door (on the south wall) has no noise coming from beyond, but the stone relief that adorns the door portrays a dragon-like fish swimming. The door is securely locked.

Fargus Stonecleaver |

Fargus gives anyone in the party who wants to pick the lock a chance to do so first. Should no one step up, he'll open the lock the old-fashioned way.
Athletics: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18

Fyird Olaafson |

Fyird sees the aggressive Dwarf start to wind up for a blow at the door. "Hold a minute. Let me see if these Lock picks are truly useful".
1d20 + 8 ⇒ (4) + 8 = 12 Thieves Tools

![]() |

Fyird makes the effort, but the door holds under his ministrations. Fargus firmly plans his foot against the door, but the portal also resists his size 14 lockpick.

Fargus Stonecleaver |

Tools are much like skills, except they only effectively apply to the use of those tools. Basically, anyone can use anything in 5e, it's just a matter of whether or not you get to add your proficiency (or double your proficiency, in the case of some classes) to your checks or not.
Also, Tools do not have a set ability score; it can change based on the situation at hand.

Fyird Olaafson |

"This one is a little tricky. Will you hold this probe while I try to manipulate the tumblers".
Assuming Joxi assists.
1d20 + 8 ⇒ (8) + 8 = 16 Thieves Tools
1d20 + 8 ⇒ (15) + 8 = 23 Thieves Tools: Advantage

![]() |

There is a sharp CLICK as the lock gives. The door is now unlocked. Fargus grunts something unintelligible and opens the portal, revealing a small ten-foot-square chamber hewn from stone. It contains an upright keg fashioned of rusted iron. Rusted pipes lead from the keg into the floor.

Arendyl Gilvanus |

”Curious.” Aren cocks his head trying to figure out what this contraption may be used for.
General INT check to discern it’s purpose: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 11

![]() |

Fargus gives the keg a good yank and pops it loose from the pipes. Water sloshes out onto the floor. Best Fyird can figure, this was a water cache. As the keg is opened, two creatures emerge from it. Each stands about two feet tall. One appears to be made of ice and the other looks like a humanoid-shaped cloud of steam. They glare angrily at Fargus for a moment, then attack!
The ice-creature is first, taking a deep breath and breathing an icy blast of air that threatens Fargus and Jaynie. The two of them need to make Dexterity saving throws (DC 10) or suffer 4 points of frost damage (2 points if the save is successful). Next, the steam-creature claws at Fargus, hitting him for 2 points of damage.
The party is up and the map is updated!
Party Init: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
Creatutres Init: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 1 = 11
Frost damage: 2d4 ⇒ (3, 1) = 4
Creature vs. Fargus: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20 Damage: 1d4 ⇒ 2
Creature vs. Fargus: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 = 17 Damage: 1d4 ⇒ 2

Fargus Stonecleaver |

Dex Save: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22
Fargus guffaws as the creatures attack him, then suddenly stops as he draws and swings his warhammer into the one with a breath weapon.
Attack Roll: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11
Damage Roll: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6

The creature is assailed by radiant light, dark blasts of energy, and the blow of a warhammer, but amazingly, it weathers the attacks and remains floating in the air.
Pausing for Fyrid and Tairdo (to whom I am sending a private message)

![]() |

Yes, I sent it. No response. We may have to hotswap a new player.

![]() |

No, no. I sent it to Tairdo's character. I knew that you were good, just waiting for you to post a move. Sorry for the confusion.

Fyird Olaafson |

1d20 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10 Perception
Fyird looks at the creature to see if any of the attacks are injuring it at all.
"Is it real"?
If he thinks it is.
1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 20 Shortbow
1d6 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7 Arrow.

![]() |

The creatures do indeed seem to be real to all of Fyird's senses and he launches an arrow at the ice creature. The arrow finds its mark and the creature suddenly explodes in a burst of jagged ice particles!
Fargus must make a DC 10 Dexterity save, or take 1d8 points of cold damage from the ice (half-damage on a successful save).
The steam-creature snarls at the sight of its companion's destruction and exhales, blowing a blast of super-heated steam over the party.
Fargus, Janie, Joxi, and Fyird need to make a DC 10 Dexterity save or take 1d8 points of fire damage (halved on a successful save).
The party is up!

Fyird Olaafson |

1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12 DEX Save
Fyird seems frozen for a moment, surprised that the creature exploded like that. He was almost convinced it was an illusion.
But manages to dodge out of the way of the worst of the ice shards. He then stedied himself, and took a shot at the steam creature. He then moved beside the wall hoping that if this creature did the same he might be protected somewhat.
1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24 Bow
1d6 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6 Arrow

Fargus Stonecleaver |

Damage: 1d8 ⇒ 5

Fargus retaliates by smashing his axe in the tiny creature.

I can't edit the byline (it returns an error every time I try), so track your hit points carefully, folks.
The party retaliates on the steam creature, with everyone except Jaynie hitting the target, but it remains in the fight. However, it is not looking well-off. It claws at Fargus, but the attack misses!
The party is up!
Mephit vs. Fargus: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7 Damage: 1d4 ⇒ 2 plus 1d4 ⇒ 2 fire

Fyird Olaafson |

Fyird holds action to see if the last two blows take out the steam beast. If not he'll step to the doorway, loose an arrow, and keep going past the doorway taking cover on the wall opposite.
1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16 Bow
1d6 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5 Arrow

![]() |

Fargus and Joxi's attacks prove sufficient, and the creature disappears in a blast of scalding steam. (Fargus takes 1d8 ⇒ 7 fire damage, DC 10 Dex save for half).
Combat over!
Within the keg are five tiny gems. Fargus estimates their worth at 10 gp each.
