Aren is pleased to get away from Waterdeep. The hustle and bustle of the Sword Coast’s biggest city was a bit overwhelming for him. Getting on the road and furthering his mission has put him in a good mood for traveling.

He was quite surprised by the generosity one of his new companion’s benefactor to have supplies them with riding horses as well. This seemed a good sign of fortune for the new group. Perhaps he might even be able to enlist some of them to help him locate and capture his quarry.

Male Wood Elf: AC-15, HP 9/5, INI +4, SPD 35', Passive Perception 16 Rogue / 1: Saves; STR -1, DEX +6, CON +1, INT +1, WIS +4, CHA +1

Fyird would do some shopping before they leave. He'll buy the following from his advance...

Travelling Gear

Spoiler:

(2) Potions of healing (100)
(2) Mules (16) (Switch out from pulling cart)
(1) Cart (15)
(20) Days of feed (80) for mules and horses
(20) Days of rations (100) 5 people
(311 GP) Total

Fyird will insist on scouting ahead of the party by about 30' while travelling in the wilderness. He will also take a four hour rest just after dusk, and stay up the remainder of the night watching and studying things.

Max HP: 16 | AC: 16/18 | Init: +2 | Saves: Str: +6; Dex: +2; Con: +6; Int: +0; Wis: +1; Cha: -1 Current Damage: -9 | Rages: 2/2

Fargus was glad of the horse, as most Dwarves hated walking overland. He spent the time trading stories with the rest of the group about their exploits, with the exception of Fyird, who's "Always running off!"

Jodi took in it all. She was more then an entertainer she was SO much more. She had come to find someone and observe. Now she did love a good story and with the dwarf Fargus telling a great volume of tales, she couldn't pass up the opportunity to tell some of her tales.

Jaynie quietly rode all day, a look of wonder on her face. This is the first time she had ever been outside the city and everything is new and exciting. The only trouble seems to have been an argument Jaynie had with her horse near the end of the day. When the party stopped for the night, Jaynie walked away from her mount to sit alone, muttering about how the horse was being 'unfair' to her...whatever that meant. She finally seemed to make up with the animal as later she was seen giving it an apple from her evening meal.

It is a pleasant morning, a nice change from the cold rains that plagued most of your travels from Waterdeep. You are making good time--you should arrive in Oakhurst this afternoon, at least a day ahead of the sale of the apple. Suddenly, the pleasant morning is shattered with a ruckus and the scream of a woman coming from a clearing ahead. Through the trees, you see a homestead... a child running towards the road with her mother close behind. The mother is holding an ax and being chased by a motley group of orcs.

The orcs have not yet seen you, but the mother and child may have (it's hard to tell).

Tairdo tries to see how many orcs are chasing the woman. once he has a visual of the first ones that are closest to the woman and child (and within 120')

magicae telum! he says as he points his staff at the orcs sending three bolts of magic.

magic missile damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
magic missile damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
magic missile damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3

not sure, but if there are three orcs then one missile on each, if only one then all three on the one.

I too am not authorized yet...

Fargus does not even bother with warcries. He just rears his horse towards the orcs, drawing his greataxe as he goes, then using it as a springboard to leap at the biggest of the Orcs, with the clear intent of introducing it to the business end of his axe.

Attack Roll: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13

Aren follows Fargus, drawing his blade and calling forth his divine magic to power the blade. As he comes within swords reach of an orc that is close to another orc, he lashes out with his flame wreathed blade.

Green Flame Blade: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25
Slashing Damage: 2d8 + 3 ⇒ (5, 7) + 3 = 15 and 3 fire damage to the nearby orc. As fire jumps from Aren’s Blade to burn the adjacent orc.

Fyird positions himself so that none of his travelling mates are between him and the orcs, and releases an arrow from his trusty shortbow... preferably at one distracted by another combatant.

1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9 Short Bow
1d6 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7 Arrow

1d6 ⇒ 4 Precision Damage (If applicable)

But finds the confusion of the moment has affected his normally good aim.

Okay, to clarify, if you haven't logged into the Roll20 site yet, please do so using the link I sent so that I can connect up your character to your name. I think the ones that need to do this are Fargus, Fyird, and Jaynie.

As soon as I have everyone connected up, I will update according to what folks have done above.

That's odd. Everyone should be authorized. Fargus, try this link.

Everyone should now be able to see and move your own token.

Fargus springboards from his horse at the nearest orc, his ax burying deep in the creature's skull! Aren is right on the dwarf's heels, his blade slicing through the neck of one orc and decapitating it! The flame jumps to an adjacent orc, which suffers a bad burn! It has no time to lament, however, as Joxi's arrow puts it out of its misery. Unfortunately, Fyird's arrow is poorly aimed and misses.

I'll see if Jaynie wants to do anything before I have the orcs react.

you get my magic missiles?

Dark Archive

Maps: Car. Crown || Forge of Heroes || Skull & Shackles

Whoops! No, I did not. Will fix that now.

Another of the orcs falls to Tairdo's magic missile, and the remaining two are wounded by the magical darts.

Jaynie's head snaps back, and when it comes forward, her eyes are black pools and her voice has taken on a deep tone, so very unlike her regular speaking voice. The language is odd and almost painful to listen to, but a black bolt flies from her palm and strikes one of the orcs.

Attack (spell): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13
Damage: 1d10 ⇒ 2

Tairdo advances stopping by the mother, We will take care this, your daughter is safe. go to her.

he says to her trying to reassure her of her safety.

advance only with some of the others up ahead, Tairdo feels confident that further spells are unneeded right now but he does get ready to unleash a poison spray if the enemy does get close enough.

Jaynie's bolt takes down yet another of the orcs. The remaining orc looks about for escape as two more of the creatures emerge from the house with an armload of loot, one wearing a pot upon its head. All three, seeing the carnage that has been wrought, they immediately turn to run.

The body of a human male lies prone before the house and two cows can be seen lying still in the corral.

The party is up!

Do you folks prefer that we do the initiative in groups (bad guys A, bad guys B, party) or individually? It doesn't matter much to me either way.

Max HP: 16 | AC: 16/18 | Init: +2 | Saves: Str: +6; Dex: +2; Con: +6; Int: +0; Wis: +1; Cha: -1 Current Damage: -9 | Rages: 2/2

I know personally I like to have people just go and then sort out the initiative at the end, but I can understand different strokes and all that.

Fargus trucks up next to two of the Orcs, noting a 3rd one off to the right. Double moving.

Male Wood Elf: AC-15, HP 9/5, INI +4, SPD 35', Passive Perception 16 Rogue / 1: Saves; STR -1, DEX +6, CON +1, INT +1, WIS +4, CHA +1

I like group initiative for PbP.

Fyird jogs forward, takes a deep breath to calm himself, and shoots an arrow at the wounded orc.

1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12 Bow
1d6 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10 Arrow

... and checks his quiver to make sure it didn't get wet and warp the arrows inside.

Aren urges his horse forward to run down the fleeing orcs. As he come up next to Fargus, he swings his green flame blade down on the orc.

Jaynie again fires a black bolt from her palm at the fleeing enemy,

Tairdo tries to make his way toward the man on the ground.

double move to reach where the guy is, don't see him on the map so I went where he might be.

Moved Tarido to the man's actual position.

Fargus runs to catch up to the fleeing orcs, as Fyird fires an arrow that drops one of them. Arendyl brings down the one to the left from horseback. The remaining orc is shielded from bowshots and spells by the homestead. It doubles it's movement and quickly escapes from the scene.

The orc is at the extreme end of throwing ax range (60 ft.) if Fargus would like to try to bring it down. Remember that if you throw the ax, you have disadvantage due to range.

Combat over!

The man is dead, having bled out from what appears to be a dagger-wound. The orcs, all juveniles, wear no armor and carry only daggers and slings. The woman approaches your group, her daughter clinging to her heels.

"I thank you all most dearly. My name is Shara, and this is my daughter Evita. With the death of my husband and my livestock, there is nothing here for us now. Will you accompany us to Oakhurst? I have friends there that will take us in. We are no longer safe here."

Can Fargus grab a javelin off of one of the corpses and throw it at the Orc? If not, he wouldn't throw his axe.

"Hello Shara, Hi Evita. Sorry about the orcs. I am Joxi Wigglefits, a storyteller. Here." Joxi introduces herself and hands Shara a dagger or two and some slings.

"Take these. The road is dangerous and you always need something to try and defend yourself." She says as she even hands one to Evita and smiles as she uses a bit of magic to pull a coin from behind the girl's ear.

Fargus doesn't even watch the followthrough as the dagger flies through the air, certain he has utterly destroyed the Orc; Instead, immediately after his throw, he turns and walks back to the group, sheathing his axe and collecting his horse.

Male Wood Elf: AC-15, HP 9/5, INI +4, SPD 35', Passive Perception 16 Rogue / 1: Saves; STR -1, DEX +6, CON +1, INT +1, WIS +4, CHA +1

Fyird leaves Joxi to interface with the woman and child for now, and moves over to the dead man. "What a Shame Tairdo. Is there nothing we can do for this one"? He motions Arendyl over to take a look.

If not then he encourages the others to help him give the man a descent burial, or whatever custom the locals use.

Aren turns to the house and at Fyrid’s call dismounts and examines the body.

The man is, sadly, irretrievably dead, short of more powerful magics. Shara accepts the daggers and a sling, and slides the daggers into her belt and boots and puts the sling in her pocket. "We appreciate your offer to accompany us," she says gratefully.

"What did you want to do with his body?" Fargus asked as he rejoined the group and heard the gist of the conversation.

Jaynie has wandered off to look at the bodies of the dead orcs.

Even the young feed the hunger of darkness, and soon all will grow dark."

She turns to the group and smiles

"All dead! The lady and her child are free! I'll help move him...it is empty now anyways...just a shell with no one inside...

Fyird impatiently taps his foot. "Damn it! Do we bury him, burn him, or leave him for the carrion eaters? Does anybody know"?

"If it means anything, I would see him buried," Shara says morosely.

Burying the remains takes about an hour and the sun is high in the sky when the group rides into the town of Oakhurst (I have added the map to the Journal tab on the Roll20 page as well for your convenience). The village is quite small; a few modest homes, a blacksmith, and an inn.

"Not a problem, just remember to pay it forward. Especially to a gnome, a gnome if properly appreciated will grant you want you to need" she says citing an old proverb.
