I can go along with that. I've gamed a lot with Javell, but since he stepped back, I can't say I have a preference. They all look like strong submissions.
Victoriana Whitecap
Yeah, I know Javell as well.
Sabine adds the most interesting new dimensions. I'd just keep an eye on the NE alignment, because it can be a tricky one to play.

Sorry for the delay. I have been under the weather, but I will get things back on track today or tomorrow.

Hey, gang. I recently heard from a Dax Thura, who has been watching this campaign and would like to join. Have any of you heard of this person, and how would you feel about adding a fifth to your merry band?

Hello. I'm the one WhtKnt mentioned. My concept is a Skinwalker (shark-kin) Ranger (history below). I know that the original recruitment discouraged non-core races so I can change his race if that is what it takes to get a seat at the cool kids table.
Backstory
Faengrim had a rather idyllic upbringing in a small commune inhabited by his people. Then one day the sahuagin attacked. His father told him to run away and not go into the water. So he did. Eventually, Faengrim stopped. He had to stop. When he went back he saw only ruins and the dead. He cried over the remains of his parents until he could cry no more.
A traveling merchant that came by regularly took him to the nearest town. He was left at the doorstep of the first temple they saw. Faengrim never made it inside. He spent some time living on the streets begging, but he was no good at it. He tried stealing, but he was no good at it. He tried beating up the smaller kids and taking from them, but he was no good at it. Then he was shanghaied and taken aboard the Raging Wench. At first Faengrim was not a very good sailor or pirate. But as he grew, he came into his own as a sailor. Unfortunately, he was still not a very good fighter. The rest of the crew teased and bullied him for that.
The Raging Wench came upon a damaged ship. It turned out to be a trap set by the sahuagin. The sahuagin were winning. One was about to skewer Faengrim, but right then he snapped. All of his pent up fear and anger was unleashed. He single handedly turned the tide of the fight. He underwent his first change and savaged them with their own weapons. When that broke he clawed and bit them. He even dove into the water to chase down the fleeing sahaugin. Faengrim had no more trouble from the crew after that.
His time aboard the Raging Wench done, he now seeks to make his way in the world. And kill some sahaugin along the way.

I guess I'm curious about what drew you to following our PbP? There are so many games going on, many of them Skulls and Shackles campaigns. Why does our game stand to you as the one you want to join?
Dax Thura

Whoa! I did not expect that question, but it is a very reasonable question.
Frankly, I like the posting style of the game. You guys also have good chemistry. With four or five players, I felt that this game might have room for another player.
I think I could fit in well and add something to this game. I just want to be an active character in a good game.
Chumtooth
Fair enough. I'm glad we've made for enjoyable reading so far.
If the consensus of WhtKnt and the rest of the group is favorable, I look forward to seeing what you bring to the (virtual) table.
Dantes Goldforge
If Chumtooth is looking for a consensus, I would say "Yes, Welcome." Is see in your ROTRL game that you gel well with Javell and Nazard; that alone makes me think you'd get along swimmingly with this crew.

I'm okay with it. It will make for an interesting group dynamic. There was some concern about overlap with our shark shaman, but I think I can work around it.
Sabine Finne
I'm working a beer festival all weekend. I'll try to post when I get a moment, but I won't be home until Sunday evening.

Not really sure if Boatswain is the position you were angling for, Faengrim. It would naturally be the position Chumtooth would think of needing, following his own promotion.
Dantes is the Quartermaster.
Victoriana is our Master Gunner/Carpenter.
We haven't really ever had a First Mate (at least for a long while).
Sabine, are you looking to be the Ship's Surgeon, or did you have another position in mind?
Sabine Finne
Questions for the GM:
1) How am I doing HP? I don't recall seeing it in the recruitment, so I haven't rolled any dice yet.
2) You said that I didn't have access to any of my magical gear. Should I just remove that stuff from my character sheet?
WhtKnt
|
1) What did I say, guys? I don't remember. Was it max at first level and average thereafter?
2) No, we're going to assume that somewhere in the loot they have taken from other ships and raids, the equipment that you lost can be replaced.
Satinder Morne
Got back into the game too late, I reckon.
SOrry lads for letting you down. It just all got to be too much..
Have fun with the Vengeance!
Satinder Morne
I'm going to go with "personal issues" combined with a job that suddenly decided I didn't need sleep.
Chumtooth
Obviously, if anyone wants to talk Chummy out of his decision feel free.
Also, WHTKNT, was the dagger I found in the well anything special? I assume we would have had a chance to identify it, if it's magical, or determine via Appraisal if it is masterwork.
****
Sorry personal life stranded you, Satinder. It sucks that you came back just as the proverbial door was closed. :-/

Well, if your going to be around for a while, Satinder, and if the rest of the crew doesn't mind, I'll retcon your demise to a severe wounding that takes you a few days to recover from. That will give us six crew members, which is about all that I feel comfortable running at once.
Yeah, I'm a softie.
WhtKnt

Oops. Sorry. Just an ordinary masterwork dagger, but made of a steel that does not rust. It is quite decorative, though. The hilt is made of (heavily tarnished) copper in the shape of a mermaid. If cleaned up, it might bring 165 gp on the open market.

Just a heads-up. I am going to be at a con tomorrow through Monday. Will update on my return.
Satinder Morne
How do you guys feel about letting Satinder recover from her near-fatal wound?
/Rick
WhtKnt
|
Okay, so following the near-fatal wounding of Satinder, the crew sails on whilst she recovers.
Satinder Morne
I reckon we'll play this out, right?
On another matter, how do you feel about Satinder staying captain? Feel like this makes the most sense, or maybe have her step down a notch because of recent events.
I can see it swing both ways, so I'd like to get your opinion. On the one hand, she will be furious and the crew might not respond well if the previous captain walks amongst them stil.
On the other, she has just been through quite an ordeal, and with Chumtooth saving her...
Your two cents, gents?
Victoriana Whitecap
Well... from a player standpoint, I think Chumtooth makes the most sense as a captain since he's been the most proactive in this party.
Of course, the most amusing situation would be "We sail for three days before getting into 'appropriate' waters to throw Sander overboard, and the second we do, the splashing wakes her up, somewhat amused at what just went down"
Satinder Morne
Damn Vic, that was an excellent idea. Where were you when my brain thought of this sorry excuse of a coming back from the dead plan :D
Dantes Goldforge
Next Saturday, my step-daughter is getting married and I am officiating the ceremony. So with preparations and family coming from out of town, the next week and a half to two weeks is going to be dicey for my posting. I'll try to keep posting normal, but feel free to bot me if it looks like I'd be holding anything up.
