Apologies to my players. I got caught up in Christmas and family unexpectedly came to visit this week. I will get something up soon; meantime, please hang in there.

I updated Dantes' standard memorized spells in his profile following this encounter. I am going with this, at least until I can expand his spell list:

Cantrips (DC 14) 4: Presdigitation, Detect Magic, Acid Splash, Detect Poison.
1st level spells (DC 15) 3+1: Mage Armor, Touch of the Sea, Enlarge Person, True Strike.
2nd level spells (DC 16) 2+1: Bulls Strength, Glitterdust, Glitterdust, Invisibility.

Note to all my games: My monitor just broke, which means I don't have normal internet connection. It'll be 1-2 weeks before it's fixed, so expect slower posting.

How is your family member doing?

She's doing alright. They kept her for observation for a few days and performed a heart cath. She had some fluid build-up, which they drained. They're putting her on Lasix and sent her home. Thank you for asking.

I'm glad they caught it. The first time my wife was hospitalized with it, they thought it was pneumonia. The second time our GP sent her to a cardiologist, who recognized it and treated her. She's been on Lasix since, and it has been a greatly positive change for her. Sure, the main effect is inconvenient, but she has been much stronger and has much more stamina.

Sorry for the extended absence without notice, folks. The family member that had congestive heart failure has been moved to a permanent care facility and I am one of the ones tasked with emptying her apartment and sorting through her things. I've been spending every day working from 8 AM to about 8 PM at that, then coming home and doing work for the convention that I am helping put on in a month. We have to get this done as soon as possible, because they want to rent out the apartment. I don't know how long this is going to take, but it shouldn't be more than another week, tops. I don't blame anyone for dropping me, or dropping out of my game, but I hope you will stick with it.

Don't worry, dude. We've all got other games keeping us on the forums and we'll be around when your life gets better again.

[Con Mode] I have a convention in less than two weeks (March 4-6) at which I am the Game Operations Director (presiding over the game room). I will try to keep a regular pace, but if I fall behind, that's why. These last two weeks are the most hectic. Just letting everyone know.

Hey Guys, I need to give you all a heads up:

My landlord decided to sell the house I am currently renting, so I have been given 30 days to vacate.

My family and I have to locate and secure a new place to live, pack, and move within that time period, and to put it mildly, I’m pretty stressed at the moment.

I have no intention of dropping out of the game, but my post rate may be limited until I can get everything back in order.

I will try to check in and post as much as I can, but if you find yourselves waiting on me to do something, please bot my character, as needed, to keep the story line moving. Hopefully once the storm passes, I will be able to jump back in with full enthusiasm.

As much as it saddens me, I think that we need to talk about replacing our captain. I've tried contacting him through PM and gotten no response, so I don't know if he has been caught up in real-world troubles, or something worse has happened. I'm all for Chumtooth (or someone else) stepping up to take the position of Captain if you folks want to go that route and get a new crewmember.

Could give us new energy, yeah. But oh gosh, the direction Chumtooth would lead us in.

I'll take the captaincy if no one else wants the job, I guess. Perhaps Chumtooth can become more like Charles Vane from Black Sails and move away from his Queequeg origins.

Yeah, it looks like two months since Satinder's player has posted anything under any alias. Dantes wouldn't be interested in the captaincy; he is more a behind-the-throne kind of guy.

Hmm. So does Dantes become First Mate by superiority, or pass it up?

EDIT: Also wow, we've got perfect alignment symmetry right now (CG and LE, with a NN captain)

EDIT 2: Oh I'm wrong guess Dantes is NE, fair enough.

I don't know that Dantes has the charisma for a leadership role. If we hit scenarios later where an officer has to make a charisma check for the crew's benefit, Victoriana's +5 (and counting) would be handy. From a RP perspective, Dantes wanted to be quartermaster because it would leave him free time to craft and study.

So, what is the plan for Satinder's sudden disappearance? Do we just play on as if she was never there, or did she wander deeper into the ruins while the others were looking down the well at me, only to get eaten by a Grue?

I'll keep her going until we get to a natural point where the new player can come in, then we'll phase her out. For now, anyway, I still have access to her stats. *shrug*

How do you guys feel about asking Grand Moff Vixen to join us? She had a pretty solid write-up at the last call for applicants.

The character I saw posted by her in recruitment was an elf oracle (Nessa). Is that the character you had in mind for her to bring in?

It would give us more healing ability, which would help, but that would be two oracles in the group. I haven't played the class enough to know if it is flexible enough not to cause a skill-set redundancy.

My preferred criteria for new players:

1.) Someone with a good track record of posting consistency and reliability.
2.) Someone who will post actions in character as much as is reasonably possible.
3.) Someone who can "go with it", improvise, and not get bunged-up over small stuff.

My preferred criteria for new characters:

1.) Someone with at least some healing powers (doesn't necessarily have to be a cleric) - an inquisitor, bard, druid or the like would be fine.

2.) Someone with at least some amount of martial ability (doesn't necessarily have to be a full martial character such as a fighter or barbarian) - it would be nice to have someone who can flank an opponent with me, or keep enemies away from our casters.

3.) A character whose backstory gives a good reason to join a crew like ours!

Is she still active on the forums?

Dunno. I'll throw a hook out and we'll see who bites.

There seem to be a few potential candidates in the mix.

So what do you guys think? Personally, I like Sabine, Jenk, or Othniel.

I like Sabine best out of those three choices, personally.
