Dad reasons that a hit at just the right angle will cause the pieces to go ricocheting into one another, causing a chain reaction. The timing will need to be precise, but it is doable, at least in theory. The idea is that SJ will "catch" one fragment in the pocket of the slingshot and send it back towards the others. Rigel will need to provide a stable "goalpost" for SJ to link up to. Then, as SJ throws the fragment back towards the others, Voltage and MINOTAR open fire on it, causing it to break into smaller fragments that, if the angle is right, will deflect the others like marbles.
Rigel you need to make a Will roll to establish the "goalpost". SJ, you need to make a Fortitude save to "catch" the fragment and then a Dexterity check to launch it on the right trajectory. MINOTAR and Voltage need to make attack rolls and Insight (DC 15) against the fragment to break it up at just the right interval, followed by attack rolls to actually break it up.

Project M.I.N.O.T.A.R |

Insight: 1d20 ⇒ 13
Javelin Attack (Vehicles): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20
I'm assuming Insight is a skill? I have Jack of All Trades ability, but I doubt that helps here. Any bonuses I might get on that while plugged into the Javelin with my Nano-Controls?

Voltage. |

Insight: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8
Lightning Bolt vs Toughness DC 24: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (19) + 9 = 28
Voltage fires wildly at the fragments.

OOPS! I forgot to add my Awareness! So...a +1 to that Insight roll. And a +3 to my Vehicles for my Dex! I obviously have not been paying attention to how skills work. Geez-Louise!

![]() |

I'm granting a +5 to the Insight roll for your being jacked into the computers, MINOTAR.
It's tight, but the maneuver is largely successful! SJ wraps around the goalpost that Rigel creates and "catches" one of the fragments. He then propels it back onto the correct trajectory. Voltage and MINOTAR strike at the fragment, breaking it into smaller pieces that crash against the others. Most of them are deflected out of Earth's orbit, but one piece escapes and is headed straight for the eastern seaboard!

Rigel Kentaurus |

So for one piece ... shouldn't we all be able to get in front of it and slow it down? Somehow ... ? Like if we put the Javlin in some kind of brace, and burn out its engines, AND Rigel uses extra effort or something and ends up bleeding out of his ears ... something?

Rigel Kentaurus |

We can only try! Maybe…Rigel can give the rock wings, SJ can attach the javelin to the top of the rock, then we power the rock into the ocean?
This is a slice of brilliant, because actually, if Rigel could give the entire fragment wings AND then adjust the ailerons and flaps of the wings, he could give it life and also steer it to some extent.
The principle is VERY Hal Jordan! I'm just not sure Rigel is that good at aero-engineering :(

Voltage. |

Voltage would like to expend extra effort to Control Air and create an Air Slide to direct it further out into the ocean.

Rigel, please make an Insight roll (DC 15). You know what you need to do, it's just a matter of doing it correctly. MINOTAR, by overclocking the engines and pushing them to their limit, you are able to catch up to the fragment. SJ, please make a DC 15 attack roll to catch the fragment again. Voltage sets up the air slide in its path.

It wasn't really possible to take a deep breath at the moment ... so Rigel focused. Focused on the light of Hope and what it was like when first formed his ring from nothing but his faith that he could help others.

Rigel concentrates and forms the wings and ailerons of a glider. With Straightjacket holding it tightly to the javelin, the team manages to steer it onto Voltage's slide. At the last moment, they release the fragment and it slides harmlessly into the Atlantic. Success! (Everyone gets 3 PP!)
Martian Manhunter flies down to join your team. "Excellent work. You handled that crisis with expertise and professionalism."

Project M.I.N.O.T.A.R |

MINOTAR acknowledges the compliment and quickly deflects.
"Statement-Agreement: The situations was a group effort the entire way Sir 'Manhunter'. I would like to put commendation requests in for Voltage, StraightJacket, and Rigel especially. Without their inspiration and follow through, this could have ended very differently today. However, I may have worn out this poor Javelin's engines in that situation. I shall put in a requisition for a refit or replacement ASAP with the JL Watchtower. Hopefully, Wayne Enterprises can ship us a new vehicle, at least on loan or as a permanent replacement quickly."
I'm going to bank my 3 points for now: Upgrades later.

I spend one to get an Alt Power to Control Air and then the rest I will save for now.

Manhunter raises an eyebrow at SJ's comment. "Yes, as you have surmised, today's exercise was a test to see how well you work together and how you perform in zero gravity. In truth, Superman was waiting just beyond the lunar orbit in case something went wrong. Had there been any significant issues, he and I would have intervened."

Voltage. |

"Do you spend much time in space? It seems like you guys are always around the earth doing stuff?" Voltage asks.

I have to offer an apology to you folks. You have been so patient with me and I have been overwhelmed with things here (COVID and another death in the family, among other things). I just don't know where I was going to take this, so I'll offer you guys the choice.
You can give me a few more days and I'll come up with the next plot, or we can say that it's been fun and call it quits. I'm not opposed to continuing if the group consensus is for such, I've just hit a dry spell.
In any case, I profusely apologize for letting it go this long. I'm very sorry.

I'm good with continuing. I have other games that are on 'wait and see mode' right now. Life is really hard on everybody right now too I think. I would love to see something a bit more epic next however. Nothing huge needed, but something like another short story arc of some sort. Maybe take something from one of our character backgrounds and build on that?

Love this MINO, this is awesome. I concur. In my head, I see like the Stargirl plot, where the heroics are balanced against, well, real life. Maybe we could do a pandemic arc; clearly Rigel's relationship to Hope would be a thing, but all of these characters could be an amazing boon to a small town on the verge of collapse, whether act of god or something else.
Would be cool if they had plain clothes time also: one of the absolutel best scenes from Justice League was during the Thanagarian Invasion when everyone took of their costumes ... and revealed their identities.
Let us know what you need help with too!

Okay, thank you all for your patience. I think that I have a storyline in mind now.
It has been some time since you were given downtime to do as you please and this seems like the perfect opportunity. The first annual GrandCon should prove to be a distraction from the ins and outs of superhero life. You may attend in your civilian identities (those who have them), cosplay, or come in costume (if you can stand being mobbed by fanboys and fangirls). The next three days promise fun for all ages!

Voltage. |

Hector will be attending in his normal civilian identity.

Project M.I.N.O.T.A.R |

MINOTAR will attend in person, but will mostly stay behind the scenes (and various curtains) so as not to frighten small children. He will monitor the Con, and its various happenings, from a distance (cameras) mainly for personal enlightenment and scientific curiosity.

"Hey MIN ... you want company? Want some data? We could wander around the Con for a while and then all appear together. Who oknows, maybe amaze the crowd or something. What do you think?"

Project M.I.N.O.T.A.R |

Only thinking for a moment, MINOTAR shakes he massive head slightly. Apparently he is a bit distracted.
"Statement: While I would appreciate the increase of direct data on these 'fans' and the 'Con' I do not wish to cause panic or disarray. I cannot shrink or alter my appearance, so while the fire exits are clearly marked, it won't matter much if there are people trying to escape and they are suddenly confronted by a large robot in their way. Also, I do not want to distract the others from enjoying themselves. I have no Ego to bruise, per se, so do not need direct adulation or 'fun' in order to enjoy myself. Truthfully, I have learned a lot by monitoring all the non-encrypted security videos and communications. By the way...I have just learned what a 'Furry' is and I am trying to download a lexicon of terms and phrases they use to communicate...Oh my."

"MIN, did you just quote an fictitious alien to create emotional proximity with me? Even though Spock isn't real, I seriously appreciate the effort buddy." "Most of these kids would never even have heard of The Wrath of Khan ... nice work! Wow! Yeah, I watched all of Star Trek on my way here so I could learn to act as human as possible."
Rigel winks at the other team members, "um, so, before you dig too deep into the data set on furries, let me also say that the AI on my ship did the same thing, aaaaaaaand then had to redact a LOT of the content based on suitability parameters set by my parents based on my chronological & social maturity. Just understand this: humans are VERY complex, and all of that data may not represent them at their best, k?"

The convention center is crowded with colorfully costumed heroes and villains. From well-known heroes like Superman and Batman to science-fiction characters like Darth Vader or the Terminator, there are dozens of costumes among the thousands of more normally-clothed civilians. That can't really be the Joker over there getting his photo taken alongside the Flash, can it? Some of the costumes rival the actual heroes or villains themselves.
One of the more well-attended booths is a signing table currently occupied by the minor supervillain known as Gemstone, aka Morgan Colbrande. Back in the 80's, she was a well-known villainess and cat burglar. However, when she was captured and made a generous plea bargain, she retired and now makes her living selling books on the supervillains of the period and attending conventions. Still, she is a fan favorite and there is a long line at her signing booth.
Other celebrities in attendance include Ivy Doomkitty, Ryan Reynolds, Kari Byron, and Nathan Fillion.

Focusing a camera, and scanning Gemstone's massively attended booth, MINOTAR comments out loud.
"Statement: It would seem some villains could learn a thing or two from this 'Gemstone' character. Why perform dangerous and criminal acts, when one could simply create a comic-book character, toys, and tell-all books of their ideal selves and make massive amounts of funds that way. Mr. Colbrande's visible on-line assets, along with investments, and carefully selected paid appearances, currently outpace most low-level super villains' incomes."

I was waiting to see if Rigel was going to comment, and one thing led to another and I got lost in the shuffle. My apologies. I'll get the next post up today or tomorrow.

All seems to be going well until about five in the afternoon on the first day. At that time, an attractive woman dressed in a stylized green karate gi with dark green trim and matching thigh-high boots steps from the line at Gemstone's booth. She has black hair and Asian features. "I'm sorry," she says, stepping forward to the table. "It's nothing personal." She raises a hand tipped with sharp-looking nails over the startled Gemstone.
But before her hand can descend upon her target, she is knocked back by a blast, leaving her lower arm and hand coated in thick, clinging ice. "Back off, witch! She's mine!" The newcomer is a beautiful woman with snow-white skin and hair in a white bodysuit trimmed in fur.
Fans scatter as the two square off and Gemstone crawls beneath her table.
Anyone who wants to get involved can give me an initiative roll.

Trying not to start a panic, MINOTAR immediately attempts to identify the attackers by memory or internet search...
Technology(INT): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (16) + 8 = 24
...and alerts the local Con security people and police/fire nearby by emergency radio/cell texts.
"WARNING STATEMENT: BE advised! ALL ALERT! Location: GrandCon, Hall 7-C, Booth 24, there are two powered individuals who seem to be fighting dangerously in close quarters to innocent bystanders! Please respond immediately and approach with caution! Final NOTE: Justice League members ARE local and will be attempting to de-escalate the situation ASAP, so we politely ask that you do not interfere unless asked to do so. Please focus on defense, rescue, and putting up a perimeter only."
Downloaded short video clips of the action, start to appear on local cop's phones, and their unit (car) computers.

You can both easily find a safe place to change. The convention floor is now in chaos, with people running here and there, screaming. Moving about on the ground is difficult terrain due to the mass of bodies.
