Analise makes an exclamation as many of the passengers on the boat suddenly disappear, then shrugs and turns the page. "Damn. Never seen a random arcane fluctuation like that. Going to have to scan for residual magic in the area..."
Couldn't resist :P

"Whew! I made it!" The little fellow jumps to look over the edge of the boat to watch the water move by dropping and zipping to another place to look over the side. Then he looks around to take stock of the other passengers.
Hey, excited to be here! How do you get it to show race and class up there?

GM Viskous |

Again welcome to the thread folks!
I kept Jack out til almost 2 AM last night, and I know he's working today so I don't expect much from him til later.
In a little bit, I'll post a few things. Some details about Khonnor and Val for the local tiesers. Some more AP specific knowledge about the area, androids, and technic league.
Formatting stuff coming up soon as well. A few of you appear to be pros at this, but for new people and the sake of consistency I'll post a guideline of what I like. (Going to steal from Tac here)
I will be using my domain to host pictures and static map images.
For more active maps I've been fiddling with roll20.net and might be getting the hang of it. I'm going to try and not rely on maps very much, unless the group wants a very tactical game. Any suggestions for alternatives to roll20 for active maps?

Oh! and one more thing.
Those of you with Advanced Class Guide Characters! It's out tomorrow on PDF, so feel free to make some adjustments when we get the books in.
If you get the Tech guide, please remember that you are at normal Golarion tech level to start off with. You will be finding a lot of neat tech stuff as we go, so if you don't want to spoil some surprises you might not pay very close attention to that book.
and... Analise I thought the wordcaster would be fun and fit your character pretty good. I imagine her calling out words sort of like how anime characters shout out the names of there attacks.
Kaaaaameeeeeh haaaaaameeeeeeeeh HA!

Locke Tresslar |

I kept Jack out til almost 2 AM last night...
Ook...I did that to myself last night. Hard to believe I'm even awake and at work right now. (-_-)
As far as maps, occasional pictures of whatever means you're using to keep track of us is fine to me...or even just one at the start of combat (or other relevant encounter) is fine as well. If you want to go for a mapless game, just keep in mind there may be a lot of ooc "Where am I in relation to...?" pre-posts which is fine of course. Just may extend some scenes. :-)

I'm trying not to go back to bed, so I can get a good night sleep tonight. But my concentration is completely shot.

Jack Homini |

Heya Gang!
Yes, the getting home at about 2am was a little rough on me this morning. :)
Viskous, to offer an alternative that may or may not work for you; the other PbP I'm in uses a google drive shared drawing.
I'm looking forward to my failed mage getting to adventure with you all!

Lazur Anil |

Lazur looks around the boat and nods at Rywokit and Jack, happy to see a few friendly faces.
Thank you for running this and inviting me in. This is my first gunslinger so if I do anything stupid let me know. :)

Analise Rodhire |

Now I really want to do wordcaster, so she's a wordcaster now.
And as for the anime dealy, I can totally imagine her making fun of herself for sounding like an anime character while casting.
For example: while casting Burning Flash, she would use Echo to imitate Natsu's theme from Fairy Tail. Stuff like that.

Ok, just be sure to play what you want. I'll just have pinvendor make another character to fill any gaps...

Rywokit Prometheus |

Presuming you guys were in Torch within the last four to five years or so...
"I wonder how everyone is doing?" the wyrwood muses aloud.
Wandering around the boat, it was surprised how many people it knew.
"Jack Homini," it nodded, "and Lazur <word process: humor> Anil: pleasant greetings to you, humans."
"There appear to be several of us from Torch. Tell me, all, what you have heard from my master, Khonnir Baine. It has been... too long, since I've seen him."
It must have been last night. I was up 'til 2AM as well...

Jack Homini |

Leaning against the deck's rails, Jack rights himself at his name. He turns to face the voice. "Well met. You must be the one the crew calls Prometheus."
He thinks to himself quietly for a moment, If only I knew.... "I'm afraid it has been some years since the Sage of Torch tried to teach me the ways of the arcane."

Analise Rodhire |

A young woman looks up from her increasingly overflowing notes. "Hmm, so you must be the one the old man calls 'Rywokit.' I shall call you Wicket." For some unknown reason, the young woman cracks up a bit at the proposed nickname.
"Name's Analise, by the way. I'm an innate user, but Khonnir helped me out with theory, spellcraft-that kind of stuff. Nice to meetcha." Ana mutters something under her breath, then holds out her hand for shaking. The quill keeps writing in the notebook.
"Reisa."
That was wordcasting, a primal form of magic that is relatively archaic. It is extremely flexible, but the effects it creates can't hope to match the extreme specificity of a wizard's spells.
The word Analise used was very basic, a single-word casting about equivalent to a cantrip. It produces an effect very similar to mage hand.

I'll post the things to discuss in separate posts so they are more easily referenced later.
Local Ties
Khonnir Baine used to be a member of the Technic League, even though he knew it was of questionable moral standings. An incident involving a young Kellid girl, caused him to flee taking the girl with him. He changed his name and traveled in disguise with her for a couple of years around Numeria. He eventually settled in Torch adopting the girl and naming her Val. As a gifted wizard and intellectual he is elected to the town council.
You know Khonnir's real name, Pauldris Gray, and were part of the incident that caused his flight from Starfall. Khonnir attempted to kill his rival Ghartone, to interrupt a sadistic experiment, that was to merge a wyrwood and a young girl consuming their souls to create a vile homonculus. He burned the lab down, hoping to hide the truths. Unfortunately the alchemist survived and Khonnir has been in "hiding since". Val doesn't really remember this very well. This could be why you are lovesick for her, as your souls partly merged in this experiment? Up to you though.
Val is a little awkward around you, you're a handsome lad and you've grown up being protective of her. She has some pretty nasty trauma going on in her history, though she doesn't remember it well. She knows the Technic League tried to hurt her though but Khonnir hasn't explained it to her since he believes it might be to traumatic til she's older.
You are several years older than Val and Lazur, and when you worked with Khonnir he was fairly new in town, just establishing his tavern and workshop. He had high hopes for the magic to grab on to you, but it never seemed to click in you. Your help in actually building the establishment was greatly appreciated and he calls you a true friend and still hopes that your magical talents will awaken someday.
So this is how I imagine it.
8 years ago the incident occurred in Starfall.
6 years ago the Baines settled in Torch.
5 years ago Rywokit left on his travels
5 years ago shortly before Rywokit left Jack shows up to learn
4.5 years ago Lazur is adopted
3.5 years ago Jack leaves to caravan and odd job about Numeria and the River Kingdoms
1 year ago Analise wanders in to Torch and displays odd magic, Khonnir attempts to help but is not versed in Wordcasting though he heard enough to help.
1 year ago Lazur begins regular travels along the Seven Tears River doing odd jobs
6 months ago Analise wanders off again to try and burn some robots or something...
The day before the adventure starts you all coincidentally arrived in Hajoth Hakados. Rywokit and Lazur are on their way "home" and Jack just ended an uneventful river guard run up the Sellen from the River Kingdoms.
Edit to add Analise into the timeline!

Rywokit Prometheus |

EDIT: Sounds good to me, GM!
At Jack:
"<Emotion: regret>Unfortunate, <process: title> Mr. Homini. Have you enjoyed your trip so far?"
At Analise: EDIT: This works with the current timeline in the GM's post above.
At her arrival, the wyrwood turns and studies the woman's hand for a moment before cautiously taking it and shaking, it head cocked to the side.
Perception: 1d20 ⇒ 11
Knowledge (arcana): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20
Alas, my dice conspire 'gainst me!
"<Emotion: curiosity> I do not recognize the form of magic you just used. <Run: query> What form of magic do you wield?"

I'm happy to make some changes, but that time line seems to work pretty well I think.
Rywokit has probably kept in touch via mail and possibly some short trips back to see how everything has been going. This would allow him to meet all of you, or at least heard of you.
And Rywokit's spoiler is really a secret that he would probably not want to share.

So has anyone ever heard of Painlord? or maybe the Doomed Hero?
There are two excellent guides by Painlord and Doomed Hero that are almost required reading for anyone who wants to Play by post. Painlord also has written some excellent material on being involved with Pathfinder Society. He is also a fabulous role player in person(I played We Be Goblins with him at my first convention).

Analise Rodhire |

Analise cracked a smile. "Yeah, it's pretty... well, uncommon magic, to say the least. I'm a Wordcaster. Wordcasting is an extremely primal form of magic. Extremely versatile, but it can't replicate the extreme specificity of standard casting. As far as I can tell, I Wordcast because-" Analise suddenly stops.
Why the hell was I about to tell that I'm from another WORLD to a complete stranger?!
"Anyways, one of it's strong points is evocation-one school that I'm particularly useful to me, since I often roam near Soverign's Reach and the Felldales. Out of curiosity, do you practice arcane magic, Wicket? I have a lot of questions about various conjuration spells that are, unfortunately, not my forte."
Do you mind if I replace Planar Savant with Local Ties? I feel like that Local Ties would fit her a lot more...
And she did not wander off to kill robots. She wandered off to find study them. If that means having to disable them first, then so be it ;P

Allen Starskipper |

I will give those guides a look-see!
Allen starts looking around at the other people on the boat. When his eyes fall upon the wooden man his smile broadens into one of wonder.
"By Desna! I've never seen a...whatever that is!" He waves before walking toward the Wyrwood.

I've altered a few things to get things started so your charactrs wouldn't know that Khonnir Baine is missing. Other than that, I have a some stuff for you to role play while I wait for tomorrows pdfs and a chance to study them.

Three hours after boarding the boat to Torch, you pass by a very large cargo barge. On the deck is a squad of Technic League soldiers. Their commander appears very upset and is screaming at the captain,"With the amount of technology we allowed you to equip, why is it taking so long to get to Torch? Once I get back to Starfall, you will be losing your rights to this barge altogether!"
Ten minutes after passing the barge you hear a large explosion. You look back and the river barge is beginning to sink in one of the narrower spots in the river. There is a massive fire and even from this distance you begin to smell the smoke. It is very acrid and metallic(think burning plastic and ozone). The burly sailor that invited you on board grumbles, "They should do a better job of maintaining their engines. Serves them right for doing business with those Technic League scum." Then he spits into the water, a clear hatred burning in his eyes. This is the point where you should begin socializing in-character, and coming up with a name for your new adventuring alliance.

Tacticslion |

GM, I need some last minute advice.
I'd like Stargazer (as it fits with his philosophies), but not enough to give up Local Ties for it. I'm probably not going with Against the Technic League; cool as it is, he's not so much all about the revenge. If you don't want me to take a campaign trait, I've got three that are pulling me strongly: Student of Philosophy, Tireless Logic, and Unintentional Linguist. I really like all of them, though the Linguist is the least "in character", I suspect. The other two fit very solidly with him, as a character.
In any event, let me know what you think! I'm currently one trait short... or should I just dump the naive drawback? I could do that, if you like. I like it, but I don't want to gimp the party by way of drawback city. :)
Thanks!
EDIT: Also, I didn't mention this before, but those guides are phenomenal. Read them! :D
EDIT 2: Oh, GGGEEEEEEEEEEE-eeeeeeeeeeemmmmmmmmmmmmm...?
EDIT 3: Okay, so it's not clear at all. ^ That was me going "Oh, GM~!" in an extended way.
EDIT 4: I'm asking potential permission/a question.
EDIT 5: I'm asking whether or not I may eventually take that class.

Rywokit Prometheus |

GM, taking just a few liberties with timing to avoid invalidating conversation that's already happened. Sound good? I'm presuming we start talking after we pass the barge, but before it explodes. We can alter this later, naturally, as you'd prefer, I'm just trying to work with what we've got so far. :)
"<Run: answer query> I am not particularly versed in conjuration - at least no more than other magic. But yes, arcane magic is my forte, <Run: appropriate humility> such as I have one. <Run: addendum/humble boast> I also process dangerous devices and technical know-how. <Run: invitation> I would be delighted to discuss such elements with you."
Suddenly, a thought strikes the small creature. It turns.
He thinks to himself quietly for a moment, If only I knew.... "I'm afraid it has been some years since the Sage of Torch tried to teach me the ways of the arcane."
"<Process: seek clarification> 'Tried' to teach you the ways of the arcane? My master did not succeed?"
It's about that moment that a Halfling waives and bounds up.
"<Process: non-threatening gesture of greeting> Hello, nice to mee-" a powerful explosion rocks the calm waters.
A sailor mutters unkind (but true) words about the Technic League, and leaves the little wyrwood speechless, hoping the entities involved are all right.
EDIT: I TOTALLY KNOW MY OWN NAME, YOU GUYS! Sigh, "Wyrockit". Sigh, Dyslexia. EDIT 2: I'm great at coding tags, you guys! Wow, I wok rock at this whole 'forum' thing! :D
... EDIT 3: ... dang it. Now I don't know if I'm just hungry for Chinese or mixing things up because of my own current mixup or name or what. Uuuuugh. Ah, well. That's what I get for boasting. :D

Locke Tresslar |

Sorry I haven't jumped in on the pre-RP yet. Super tired from a long night and working all day. I will be more lively, I promise.

Allen Starskipper |

Allen hops on one foot for a moment to keep his balance as the barge jerks to one side.
"What th-?" he looks around, calling "Is everyone ok!?"
He grasps his holy symbol, ready if he needs to leap into action...but, after a moment or so he realizes that it was only some machinery that was damaged and no-one is in immediate danger.
"Wow! I didn't know this trip would be so exciting! Where were we?" He turns to the wooden man and holds out his hand to shake.
"I'm Allen Starskipper! What are you!?"

Lazur Anil |

Lazur looks up at the sound of the explosion. If that's not a good omen. I hope father and Val are all right. Jack, Rywokit and Analise it's good to see you again. Though I dread to think what might be happening in Torch with all these goings on. The league usually isn't that excited unless something important is going on. And then their boat blows up. Not good omens.
Lazur begins to oil and clean his musket, almost as a way to calm his nerves.

Analise Rodhire |

"Yeah, it'd be great to talk to someone about a few planar Wordcasting theorems I've come up with and have them not stare at me like I'm speaking Aklo. Oh, you're a technologist too?! Khonnir taught me a lot about it, and I've spent these last six months doing field research. Maybe you can he-"
Analise is cut off by the massive explosion. She belts out an impressive blue streak, swearing in a variety of languages and mixing the adjectives and adverbs masterfully. Ana's 49.71 second rant ends with "-Technic League bastards!" She calms down after a moment, then says vengefully "Odds are that since the leader was pissed at the captain, he yanked the tech away from the poor guy before planting some sort of bomb in the engines."
Analise fumes for a few more seconds, then calms down-a bit-and resumes her technobabble. "Anyways, I've spent the entire trip puzzling out how a spiderbot converts plasma to kinetic energy. I'm no closer to an answer, but maybe you'll be able to help with that? Also, there's the paradox of how the little guy can overcharge his plasma core and blast it out and not explode, while if you do enough damage to the 'bot, it goes boom."
GM, can you give me a bit more info about Val, since I trained under Khonnir for a little while?

GM Viskous |

I'll answer the request for info and more details and advice in the morning... Need to research some and think about others.

Jack Homini |

As the thunderous sound slams into Jack's ears, he turns to see the flames and plume of smoke rising from behind. Noticing his shield begin to tip over and possibly fall onto someone's chest, he steps aside and stops it with an arm. He turns to place it back, eyeing the remnants of the fireball and the smoke that rises after it.
"Rywokit, I am the failure. Not our mentor." Jack says quickly, addressing the small construct's question with the hope to bring up another point rapidly. "I do hope that sinking boat has enough rowboats for all it's passengers. We should request the captain turn back and offer aid before all those men drown," Jack says, eyeing the group. "Any objections?"
Jack nods to Lazur in a silent return of greeting while he waits for the group around him to give their input on his suggestion.

Raven Usta |

Shouldn't we move the action into the Gameplay thread? ^^; It'd sure make this campaign easier to track.
For the timeline:
-17 years: Scholars from the Usniversity of Lepidstadt in Ustalav set out for Starfall, hoping to win the Black Sovereign's permission to study the Silver Mountain.
-16 years: RAU-282 activates near a chunk of spaceship, bereft of all but the most basic memories.
The Ustalavi scholars are turned away at the gates of Starfall, but encounter RAU-282 on the way back and adopt her, taking her with them as they return home.
-14 years: "Raven Usta" enrolls in the University of Lepidstadt.
-1 year: "Raven Usta" departs Lepidstadt for Numeria, in possession of several degrees: a double Master in architecture, engineering and natural philosophy and Bachelor's degrees in arcane philosophy and religious studies.

Raven Usta |

Raven, who had been standing at the prow and facing forward, turns at the sound of the explosion and walks back to the stern, to get a better view of the smoke and wreckage.
"Should we not be reversing course to see whether there are people in need?" she asks the sailor who spoke so harshly of the Technic League, the look in her dark eyes simply curious, her voice free of condemnation. "Or salvage of value, should the crew be entirely deceased? I believe I read something about the laws of sailors in this regard. Besides, any surviving engine parts might be of interest."

Rywokit Prometheus |

Usa, I'm guessing we're waiting on the Gameplay thread until the GM's ready to get into the AP itself. But that's just a guess.
After a few moments (in which you get the impression that it blinking, despite the fact that it has no real "eyes" to blink), Rywokit nods.
Looking at each person in turn, Rywokit says, "<Run: honorable action, full spectrum answer> Indeed, all, I agree. Exciting voyage. On a river. Bad Omens. Exploding plasma. Greetings. We should help any survivors." before staring back at the explosion.
Inwardly, he deeply fears returning, feeling the flashbacks from most of his lifetime ago.

Allen Starskipper |

"I guess we're not going back for them. They're probably ok!" He looks around at the people gathering together. "Hi! I'm Allen Starkskipper! We're all going to investigate the Torch going out?"

Raven Usta |

"Given the amount of smoke and the scents associated therewith, your conclusion seems dubious at best," Raven says as she turns to look Allen in the eye. Or rather, stare him in the eye; her unblinking attention is slightly off-putting. "I am Raven Usta, out of Lepidstadt. I am, indeed, headed for Torch to apply the principles of natural philosophy to the problem. This is your intention also?"
Natural philosophy is basically the precursor to science as we know it on Earth. ^^

Jack Homini |

Looks like most of the group is for turning back, Jack thinks to himself. As he turns to leave and engage the captain, he hears Raven address the sailor.
Turning back, Jack nods to Raven. "Thanks." That should take care of it, right? Jack shrugs to his own internal thought.
"I am returning to Torch because there may be some coin to be made from those who want protection during the chaos that must be accompanying the extinguished torch. Also, I made some progress in my apprenticeship. Perhaps I might get another moment of inspiration while I'm there."
