I note that I did not explicitly stake out a role for Dima in the application post, so I'll add that here: As an armored fighter with a couple of solid weapon options, Dima works best on point in combat. While he carries a ranged option for versatility, he does his best work up close and personal.

Out of combat, Dima adds to the gothic horror flavor of the game as the Monster in the Closet, if that Monster wanted to come out and be a real person. He's shy but not uncommunicative and, I feel, would work well with Ruesten, seeing in him someone with a similar history, but without Dima's social hang-ups. His faith in Pharasma and general wish to help alleviate suffering will push him towards making heroic decisions and responding to cries for help.

Azubah would serve as a support/buffer role but with the potential for controlling/damaging undead. As he increases in levels he would also provide information through contact with the souls of the departed.

Brother Atanasio, Cold Left Hand of the Dawnflower

The Questions

1. Who are you and where are you from?
i am brother Atanasio Sunstalker, i am merely a tool in the Dawnflower's shed. and i am a varisian wanderer from a small monastery in versex.

2. How were you acquainted with Professor Lorrimor? i was wandering to take out a few apprentices of the whispering way, i noticed the professor was bound and saved him by chance. i told him to let me deal with the abberrations

3. How would you describe your personality? according to most, they say i am as cold as ice and as cruel as the evil i punish. people are too frightened to slander the dawnflower around me because of my reputation for my piousy. i don't care that nobody likes me. it allows me more freedom as a vigilante due to my lack of social ties.

4. Do you buy into the superstitious paradigms of the denizens of Ustalav? superstitions? more like old wives tales, the dawnflower blessed me with the power to eliminate the minor evils that oppose her.

Brother Atanasio would serve as a scout, secondary face, secondary melee combatant, and secondary healer. and would be best suited to taking up the rogue slot.

Brother Atanasio

Here is Alice. (This is Pezmerga for clarification! :))

Dotting for interest.

Making my way through the Carrion Companion

Speaking to me most clearly is Lomar Sildrake.

Appearance & Personality:

This attractive young man is quiet, withdrawn and haughty by nature. He nearly always has a slight sneer upon his face, clearly giving the impression that he considers himself better than those around him and is even slightly offended by their presence. His manner and bearing indicate him to be of noble birth, yet his once fine but now worn clothes tell a slightly different story, namely that of a noble who has clearly fallen on hard times, or perhaps is not so 'noble' after all. There is something slightly...off, about his gaze, and a close look into the dark, deeply brooding pools of his eyes reveals that there is much more going on with this young man than can easily be divined upon the surface.

To those familiar with such things it is clear that he is some sort of practitioner of magics, though which kind exactly is substantially less clear.

DM ONLY:

This is only just the bare bones of the build so far, lots more background and other fluff coming down the pike. Some ideas and notes on development are:
-To all out ward intents and purposes Lomar seems to be of a neutral or perhaps even evil bent, this is an image that he cultivates
-In reality though his deepest, darkest secret is that he actually has a good heart
-He hates this aspect of himself as he considers it an extreme weakness and the prime reason for his families' fall from grace
-His father died in a hunting accident a few of years ago leaving only one son, a younger daughter and a widow. young and unprepared Lomar was forced to take over the family holdings as his utterly distraught mother was incapable of doing so.
-A neighbouring nobleman offered his help and a desperate Lomar gladly jumped at the chance to allow someone else to make the important decisions for the family
-This nobleman promptly took complete advantage of the situation and in a short time swindled all the families holdings, leaving them virtually destitute.
-This vile and atrocious man then agreed to keep the mother and daughter in the state they were accustomed to if the Lomar's dear 14 year old sister agreed to be the man's mistress. Feeling they had no other choice, the family agreed. The horrid traitor's final condition was that Lomar leave and never return. After a teary good-bye the young man left.
-This is why Lomar comports himself as he does. He has sworn to never again be so naive and trusting. Yet is heart and nature are the way the are, so this is why he works so hard to present a vain, haughty, uncaring front to the world
-However if he can ever get away with doing good deeds in secret, he will do so.
-These rare acts of decency are one of the very few things in his life that give his soul any sense of relief or happiness.
-If ever caught or found out doing said good deeds though he will angrily deny it and seek to quickly change the subject
-Lomar has also sworn to revenge himself on the noble and rescue his sister and nearly useless mother. Yet the nobleman is very rich and powerful and corrupt and the no longer naive boy knows he will need to greatly build up himself and his resources before he can take the noble on. (perhaps the man is a Baron?)
-To this end Lomar made a terrible mistake and made a pact with an evil outsider to grant him power
-Although he does not want to give up the power he has gained, the realization of the immense mistake he has made crushes his soul a little more every day
-This is why he came to know the Professor, and he had sought out the wise scholar's advice
-The professor came to feel for and considerably like the tormented young man and is the only person who knew Lomar's full story and background and true, decent nature. The professor was the only real friend Lomar has had and his death has been devastating for the young man.
-I really see Lomar as a Warlock, but I am not completely happy with Adamant's take on the class as it seems rather week and somewhat incomplete. From the comments on the boards it seems that it seems that most feel fairly similar. I have scanned a few homebrew alternative Warlock builds, might one of these be acceptable to you if it seems like a fair and balanced build?
-That's it so far. Any or all of this can and will if necessary be changed to better fit into the game and/or your preferences. I am nothing if not adaptable.

Wow! If you made it through all of that so sorry for the wall of text! Just all came out as stream of thought.

Anyway, briefly about me. I've been on the boards for a few years now. Most of my games are long standing (one is going on 3 years now!) and I am a multi-post-a-day kind of dude. I definitely prefer Roleplay over Rollplay as the group creative story telling aspect is the most fun and entertaining part of PbP for me. That said, I most certainly do enjoy a good knock-down drag-out as well ; )

I know my grammar is atrocious in the post, but these were just point form notes, and it's late and I'm falling asleep so you'll have to please forgive me. I'll do better next time, promise.

Thanks for your consideration and attention so far!

I still have to get weapons and equipment, but I think Soval's stats are ready in his profile..

Alright. I think there are enough solid applicants that I can make my decision. I've made my next selection, so there are only two slots left.

The Chosen
Reusten van der Zicht
Soval Eieros
Dmitri "Darkeye" Kuznetsov

Please head to the Discussion Thread and finish up your character sheet.

Keep the applications coming, everyone!

Finished up character sheet now I'm finished please look over everything thanks. Bio and Questions on my sheet too.

Thanks for your consideration!

Bricker Longfellow.

I should clarify that there are still two slots open and I haven't made my final decision for those last two slots. There are some solid applicants, so I am prepared to make the final selections today if there aren't any other applications.

Alright, this will be my last submission, as four submissions are probably four too many for finals week!

1. Who are you and where are you from?
Pleased to meet ya! I'm Walthus Harrow from the Palatinates. I am a servant of the dawnflower, singer of songs, lover of grand stories, and the first free-born halfling to the Harrow's name there.

2. How were you acquainted with Professor Lorrimor?
The professor helped my family escape from Cheliax. We owe our freedom to him, and he was a good friend to us just setting out. He also taught me most every thing I know about religion, and helped me find the Everlight when I needed something to believe in. The world won't be the same with out him, and I will miss him dearly.

3. How would you describe your personality?
The humans here look down on me, in more than a literal sense, as if I was less than. I'm eager to prove them wrong! I'm told I don't always see the obvious things, but when it comes to seeing the truth of the matter, the Dawnflower guides me. I wish that I could bring more light to this cold land, and do good by my family's name. I'm still young, and I've a lot to learn, and even if I am a little rash, I always try to show a stout heart, brilliant soul, and warm smile.

4. Do you buy into the superstitious paradigms of the denizens of Ustalav?
I don't know if really buy it or not, but I'm probably biased. I don't think much of the tall one's ability to be open minded or ask questions, which is what I strive to do when ever I can. That being said, to each their own, we all have our own paths to follow.

Party Role: In combat, Walthus can fill a secondary role as a front liner, and versatile spell-caster, with a tendency towards healing and combat spells. He will be able to hold up on the front line while supporting and healing his allies. Outside of combat, he's an excellent scout, face, and mobile skill monkey. I hope to have him play the cheery role something akin to Samwise from lord of the rings. Determined, supportive, and willing to put anything on the line to help his friends. He is a little naive, and doesn't know much about the world, but if you're looking for heart, he'll put it and more so into anything that comes his way.

1. Who are you and where are you from?
I am Lomar Sildrake...I see you have not heard of me, that is good. Where I am from then is not important, for I am not anymore what I once was. Yet I shall be again someday! I am Ustalavan to my core. This is my homeland and I am proud of my country and her people. No other nation could have endured the suffering; the trials and tribulations which we have, and yet still survive, and more, prosper! I shall do all that I can to see the Immortal Principality one day take her rightful place as first among all nations.

2. How were you acquainted with Professor Lorrimor?
The professor is...was, a good man. When no other was able to, or even cared to, seek a solution to my...unique problem, he did. We became close as student and mentor, and even more, friends. His death was a great loss to our nation; and as well to my hope for a...cure. His memory though still inspires me to continue to live and strive for the betterment of myself and those I care about. I shall never forget him.

3. How would you describe your personality?
You ask a lot of questions. I am as I am, and that should be good enough for you! Why I even answer to the likes of you is beyond me, perhaps you have caught me in a good mood. If you question my sincerity or ability then be off with you! I have no need to waste my time with those of lesser station or determination than myself.

4. Do you buy into the superstitious paradigms of the denizens of Ustalav?
What you call 'superstitious paradigms' are simply facts of life to we Ustalavians. One cannot have lived in a beleaguered nation such as ours, nor have experienced the things that we have, without accepting the grim realities the Gods have cursed us with; one would be a fool not to. Yet we remain strong! Nor are we fools. And I promise you, the 'things which go bump in the night' have far more to fear from me than do I from them.

DM Only:

I would still very much prefer to go with Lomar as a Warlock, as I feel that class fits in perfectly with the horror and desperateness of the tone of the AP. As a Warlock, Lomar will be passing himself off as a Wizard, even going to the extent of carrying around a fake spellbook and pretending to study it every morning.

If the Warlock class is not possible or acceptable though I can easily switch to Sorcerer with the Abyssal or Undead bloodline, no problem. Either way Lomar's powers will have been granted through his deal as opposed to having been born with them.

Would you like to see the full crunch for either one, or both? Or is the background sufficient for now?

I have wanted to play a Carrion game for Ages so would really love to make it into this one!

Added Traits.

DM Only PS:

Lomar will have the Chance Savior and Subject of Study traits, and the two are actually connected.

Lomar had been discreetly putting out word about his need to find someone learned enough to help him with his problem (the selling of his soul in exchange for power). When the Professor heard of someone looking for this kind of aid he was immediately intrigued and began to seek out who it was sending the veiled requests. At the same time, word had reached Lomar of the Professor's interest and he in turn began to seek out the Professor. However word also had reached Lomar's infernal sponsor, and a demonic minion was sent to kill the professor and thereby stop his potential interference.

As fortune had it, and as well because the Professor was not hiding, Lomar had the greater luck in his tracking down quarry first. Yet he had been beaten to the chase by the demonic assassin. He arrived just in time and, together, the two of them were able to defeat the demon, if just barely. His saving of the professor's life cemented the seeds of their friendship and, up until the Professor's untimely death, their relationship had only grown stronger over time.

Lomar is a young man of many secrets and great emotional depth. To sum up his background, motivations and hidden agendas:
-He was born a noble in a family of some standing, but his father died in an accident
-Lomar was forced to take over as head of the family and, because his naivety and good, honest nature, he lost all of his family holdings to an unscrupulous Baron. At least Lomar has convinced himself this is the reason. He now carries extreme guilt over and as a result works hard to hide and deny his good nature.
-This vile Baron has also forced Lomar's sister into little more than forced prostitution and exiled Lomar.
(Lomar does not know this yet but his father's death was no accident and this same evil Baron was directly involved)
-The young man has sworn revenge on the Baron and as a result of this oath and the depth of his guilt and anguish made a fateful decision and sold his soul to a denizen of the lower planes in exchange for power.
-Now he seeks to undo his contract while still retaining his abilities, at least until he topples the Baron
-Despite everything, he is still good at heart, and will secretly do good deeds is he thinks he can get away with it. If caught, he denies it and changes the subject

I can whip up the character sheet quickly, just waiting to hear if the Warlock class will be approved by you or if I should go with Sorcerer.

Oh and sorry, thought I had added previously a link to the alternate Warlock version, THIS is the one I have been referring to. Basically, in the author's words, this is what the build does:

"One of the major objections that people had to the Warlock was the array of at-will abilities, specifically their utility invocations. It wasn't the eldritch blast that was the problem, it was all of the other powers. So, for this conversion I took a step back and thought about what we as players and DMs want in a Warlock.

I kept the eldritch blast, but you will find that invocations are vastly changed. Now, they are all simply effects that alter the eldritch blast itself, based on the former blast shape and eldritch essence invocations.

To keep some of the utility aspects of the Warlock, I then added to the class spontaneous arcane spell-casting at the same rate as the bard. Their list of spells known is very restricted, and keeps the flavor of the Warlock alive and well. As for their other abilities, well read the class."

I have made my final decision. Great applications once again. And, once again, I have selected six players. I'm a glutton for characters.

The Chosen
Reusten van der Zicht
Soval Eieros
Dmitri "Darkeye" Kuznetsov
Walthus Harrow
Lomar Sildrake
Nadiya

Those selected need to head over to the Discussion Board and complete their character sheets.

Thanks again to all who applied!

Sigh.

Well, thank you for considering me. I'll keep looking for someone who is running this, so I can play as well as run it for my RL group.

Those of you selected, have fun!

Good luck to those that got choosen. I have to admit it's a little crazy how each time CC is in recruitment it gets blown up with characters real fast.

I'm enjoying reading all the various ways in which professor Lorrimor has been saved by adventurers.

Seriously that guys worse than princess peach. :3

Bummer. Well Good luck and have fun guys.
