"For Kyonin and Yuelral!" shouts Amarthecthel, trying to draw the golem's attention away from Pelkin.

1st attack - +1 Cold Iron icy burst Scimitar w/ spell combat and spellstrike and frostbite, with flank: 1d20 + 11 - 1 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 11 - 1 + 2 = 271d6 + 7 + 1d6 + 1d6 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 + (2) + (3) + 7 = 23

2nd attack - +1 Cold Iron icy burst Scimitar w/ spell combat and spellstrike and frostbite, with flank: 1d20 + 11 - 1 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 11 - 1 + 2 = 231d6 + 7 + 1d6 + 1d6 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 + (6) + (4) + 7 = 27

I think both hit? Ignoring the nonlethal damage (the icy burst cold damage -is- lethal damage; only the frostbite damage is nonlethal), that would be 29 points of lethal damage.

Amarthecthel slashes twice, nearly felling the construct. Mexel's enlarged jaws and claws finish it off.

It's down to 6 HP, is slowed, and we still haven't confirmed the crit that will more than likely succeed on top of 3 more attacks.

The threats now removed, the party examines the remaining chambers.

The chamber the golem burst through is thoroughly trashed, but appears to have been a posh bedroom. Numerous ancient books litter the floor and piles of papers with arcane markings are haphazardly spread across the chamber.

Meanwhile, at the end of the hall southwestern most corner, the source of the glowing lights is evident. Five floating crystalline shapes weave and rotate in eldritch patterns, casting blasts of colorful light into the deep shadows of the room's many narrow niches over a large, spherical surface.

Pelkin determines that this bears the powerful magical aura he felt before.

What have we here? Any ideas? Pelkin will move to investigate further, continuing to concentrate.

If you need heals from a wand, simply roll.

I think Amarth might have a clue...

Niswan map Ebon Destroyers handouts Combat map

Yes... yes he does.

While Pelkin is amused by the 'dancing lights', Amarthecthel truly studies the wonder before him. The floating crystals are ioun stones, all bound into the pattern forming an three-dimensional arcane glyph around the central sphere. The glyph acts as a temporal anchor that binds a location, perhaps this floor, outside of the normal realm of time and within its own temporal plane.

Studying the magic, the elf concludes that what Togarin said was true: causing a paradox will overload the magic and cause it to burn out, destroying the glyph and the time lock with it. However, it appears that destroying the sphere will also work in ending the time lock, but causing damage physically will have some repercussions to the attacker, causing his or her body to be jaunted forward in time.

So what do you do? Seek out Rozimus elsewhere in the dungeon? Destroy the sphere? Do something else completely unexepected?

Perhaps we should look for Rozimus some more? I'm not sure I want to discover the ramifications of destroying the sphere.

"Agreed," says Amarthecthel, headed that way. "We'll call destroying the Azlanti artifact 'Plan B'. What sort of paradox can we create? It has to do with time. If we can cause something to happen in an earlier time that prevents our ever being trapped, there's our paraodox."

"This Rozimus didn't seem to know us. That means that he's from a time before Vuzhon took over his body and left, tricking us into coming back here. Killing Rozimus would certainly create a paradox, as he wouldn't be able to give Vuzhon a ride out later, but we're not murderers. We have to look for another solution."

He stops dead in his tracks. "Wait. Horgrym, aren't you carrying the Wayfinder Vuzhon's Rozimus gave you? He said it was the key to getting us into the Sanctum. That was the trap."

"If this Rozimus has the same Wayfinder and we destroy it, Vuzhon can't give it to us later. Paradox."
