The space behind them is simply a series of straw nests. They must have spent a hundred centuries in here, almost certainly in a state of magical sleep until now. But why could they have been here? What was their purpose? A careful check reveals no secret panels or doors in this room.

"Well, unless we want to open that Vault door on this level, I'm out of ideas." Tung says with a final scuff of his boot through a straw bed.

He makes his way to the entrance of the room and stands with his arms crossed, waiting for the others. He takes a moment to wipe some dried blood from where the ape slammed a fist into his jaw.

As they exit the room, Tilver is still bothered by the guardianship of the apes here. He brushes his hand along the wall, trying to check of any inconsistencies. "There's also the area with the wooden structure..."

Tilver finds a secret door.

The walls, ceiling, and even the floors here are coated in faded, chipping paint. An elaborate mural still shows blue skies and white, fluffy clouds, giving the impression of flight high in the air—or, in fact, in a place with no ground at all. Near the north end of the room, about 15 feet from the wall, a folding screen hides a portion of the chamber. Its cloth panels are also painted, depicting a violent whirlwind.

The three doors to the left are Vault doors.

Tilver walks in warily. "Maybe this is what they were defending. But they were completely cut off from it."

He walks down the length of the room, ignoring the vault doors for the moment. He goes to move the folding screen.

Fixed the icons. Moved Silas behind Dain.


As you enter the room with the screen, the storm depicted on the screen moves and becomes real. A whirling torrent of wind flies out of the screen and attacks!

The vaguely humanoid storm blasts Tilver with enormous gusts of air, but the doughty warrior holds on and is not harmed.

From his position guarding the rear, Skar finds he must quickly cover the ground lost. Thankfully his elvish legs carry him at a speed most would call a dead run and he would term an amble. Blade drawn he calls up the magic inherent in his tune.

Tung recognizes this as a rare form of air elemental known as a Storm Knight. Storm Knights feature very high winds, such that it is hazardous to fly near them. Small creatures might also be tossed about. They can use lightning and can disappear and reappear like gusts of wind. While they don’t have anatomy per se, there are nodes of elemental energy that can be attacked (they’re not immune to precision damage).

As Skarvek plays a martial air, Silas, Tilver and Tung attack the Storm Knight, killing it. Dain smashes the ancient screen that summoned it. The winds swiftly disperse.
