Silas Silvermane |
Silas moves to catch up.
I have to do Stride x3 to get there.
Tilver Arnholm |
Tilver rushes into the room, looking around for any signs of either what could be speaking or anything odd in the room. "Who do we have the honor of speaking to?" he says as he draws his sword.
1. Move
2. Seek + That's Odd
3. Draw weapon
Tung Griftskin |
Tungs stops mid move to listen as his dagger shifts into a rapier.
Shifting to Rapier,
Seek x2 (one up on the platform and one under) Perception +14
Dain Slumsaint |
GM Tarondor |
Tilver, you have to select an area (cone centered on you or burst within sight) when you Seek. I'm going to assume you're looking at the platform.
1. Intimidate.
2. Go Dark.
3. ???
A dim light appears and you can each see a glowing ball floating above the platform. It contains a skull limned in bluish light. It turns its empty sockets at Tung and shrieks! Tung feels an electric thrill of fear run down his spine. Then with a laugh, the ball fades from view.
”Ah-hahahaha!” Its maniacal laughter fills the chamber and echoes down the hall.

Silas Silvermane |
If you would like an order for Isabel since she has not posted in a bit, she would probably just move forward and cast a Shield spell for defense. I will move her on the map if that sounds good.
Silas Silvermane |
I think Skarvek has already moved as he is now ahead of Silas. I moved Isabel up. She is about half way up the hallway and casts Shield.
GM Tarondor |
Another skull-lamp appears, floating a dozen feet to the left of the first. It laughs, a deep menacing sound, and spits lightning at Dain and Tung! Then it disappears as well. Dain's shield causes the blast of lightning to deflect away, while Tung quickly flattens himself against the wall.
Lightning Blast v. Dain: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (7) + 17 = 242d8 + 4 ⇒ (1, 5) + 4 = 10

Tung focuses on the area above the platform and calls out to his companions.
"Flying. Above the platform!" he shouts to the others.
I'd like to ◆ Seek and ◆ Point Out the creature Tung saw above the platform, using two Seek actions if necessary. If only one Seek is necessary, Tung ◇ drops his blade and ◆ draws his shortbow.
Silas Silvermane |
Silas moves forward and calls upon his inner power as he watches for one of the creatures to reappear.
Stride, Ready Action for Ray of Frost against the first of the creatures to appear.
Ray of Frost Attack: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (14) + 12 = 26
Ray of Frost Damage: 3d4 + 3 ⇒ (2, 4, 3) + 3 = 12
Tilver Arnholm |
Tilver races up the platform stairs, looking for any sign of the creature Tung is pointing out. He looks frantically for it on the platform.
◆ Move
◆ Move
◆ Seek in a 30 foot cone across the top of the platform (unless it's obvious from Tung's pointing where it is)
Tung Griftskin |
Silas, in 2e, you can't Ready most spells since you "Choose a single action or free action you can use, and designate a trigger."
Also, Tilver may not have to Seek if Tung successfully Points Out
Dain Slumsaint |
Dain reforms his spirit shield and moves up the stairs to join Tilver on the platform.
(1)Cast Shield on self;(2)Stride; (3)Stride.
Silas Silvermane |
I read that as any single action that you had the ability to perform instead of something that uses 1 of your three action points. If I can't do it I have nothing else to do and will wait to see if we can find them.
GM Tarondor |
Yeah, sadly you can't ready anything more than a single action, so Ready doesn't work on spells.
Tung spots a telltale shimmer in the air and swiftly points it out to his friends. He also drops his blade and draws his bow.
One of the creatures is now Hidden instead of Undetected, so you can target it until it moves.
Tilver, you have one action left and Silas may take his full turn.
Tilver Arnholm |
Seeing where Tung is pointing, Tilver lashes out with his sword. It whistles sharply through the air.
Attack: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (17) + 16 = 33
Hidden Flat check (DC11): 1d20 ⇒ 8
Damage: 2d8 + 6 ⇒ (6, 5) + 6 = 17
Silas Silvermane |
Silas moves and sends a bolt at the hidden creature.
Stride, Castx2.

Ray of Frost Damage: 3d4 + 3 ⇒ (2, 2, 4) + 3 = 11
Hidden Flat Check DC 11: 1d20 ⇒ 13
GM Tarondor |
Tilver's blade sweeps through thin air, and Silas's ray just disappears with no apparent effect.
1. Strike (and appear)
2. Go Dark (and disappear)
3. Move???
Lightning vs. Tilver: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (17) + 17 = 342d8 + 4 ⇒ (7, 8) + 4 = 19
The creature appears beside Tilver, a ghostly skull floating in an eerie light. A sharp jolt of electricity arcs at the warrior, shocking him. Then the skull goes dark and disappears again with a gloating chuckle.

Isabel casts Faerie Fire. The skull-light above the platform is suddenly limned in a cheery glow of autumn colors!
The creature is Concealed rather than undetected.
Skarvek, you may take a full turn now.
Skarvek |
OK, missed the little bot in your post about getting a full action and had been waiting on the next round. Flat check just means I roll a d20 for each attack and if it is 1-4 I don't actually attack, if I am reading that correctly. INSPIRE COURAGE, FLURRY, STRIKE.
3d20 ⇒ (9, 7, 2) = 18
First two attacks good, third aborted due to conceal.
1d20 + 17 ⇒ (10) + 17 = 27
1d20 + 12 ⇒ (1) + 12 = 13
2d8 + 2 ⇒ (4, 2) + 2 = 8
GM Tarondor |
If you fail the flat check you have still attacked, but the concealment threw off the attack.
As soon as the skull-light is visible, Skarvek fires a trio of arrows. One hits something solid and bursts into ash as the creature hisses in anger. The other deadlight appears for a second as it hurls lightning at Skarvek. The bolt sizzles the ground at the elf's feet and the creature fades back into invisibility.

Silas Silvermane |
How high up are they? Can we attack them in melee or are they flying high?
GM Tarondor |
Silas, these things can fly away from you if they want, but just now one of them is below the stairs and one above, both within melee reach of anyone standing in the appropriate spot. Overconfidence, perhaps? A lack of caution brought on by millennia of boredom?
Dain Slumsaint |
Dain reforms his spirit shield. When Isabel's magic reveals the invisible skull, he takes a step towards it and jabs at it with his spear.

He then scours the room for the other invisible creature.

GM Tarondor |
The skull dodges Tung's arrow and spins out of the way of Dain's spear, but Silas's huge falchion crushes it like an eggshell.
Tung looks carefully for the other Dead-light, but can't spot where it's gone.
"Lodrau was an immense bore," it says, its voice coming from somewhere overhead. Evidently it learned its lesson. "As a favor for ending his eternal blather, you may pass unhindered through my domain."
Dain Slumsaint |
Magill makes her way up the rickety stairs, chittering what sounds like a complaint. Dain looks up into the rafters and speaks. "See you remember it, doom-spirit." He gestures towards Silas, "Silas here really hates it when...ummm...people...break promises."
Tung Griftskin |
Tung stows his bow and retrieves his blade from the ground before walking up onto the platform.
He looks around for their antagonizers and says.
"Your domain and life continue by the grace of Saints. It is wise to let us pass."
He approaches the door on the platform.
"Tell me, spirit, do you know what's beyond this door?"

Silas Silvermane |
Silas sniffs around and moves towards where he thought it was before.
Tilver Arnholm |
Tilver looks up into the blank air. "If we have a deal, then will you show yourself? Were you locked into a vault or just held in this space? It's been a long time, right?"
Tung Griftskin |
"What binds you here now? How do we know you won't flee this place and commit evil elsewhere?" Tung asks intensely.
Silas Silvermane |
Silas rages that the foul creature is hiding from him and breathes a freezing cone of cold straight up.
Dragon Breath. 30 ft cone Reflex DC 22: 7d6 ⇒ (6, 5, 1, 3, 3, 3, 6) = 27
I aim to miss all the party but hit as much of the roof areas as I can.
Silas Silvermane |
Silas looks around and sees no sign of the creature as his rage subsides. He growls and says, "It seems like its hiding or gone. We should continue on and hunt for it more once we leave this place."
Skarvek |
"Probably already headed off to do more evil now that yhe path is clear... hopefully it at least left something useful?" Skarvek opined as he started quietly looking around just in case.
Tung Griftskin |
Tung gives an annoyed huff as he climbs up the remaining stairs.
"No use hunting an invisible creature." He says as he approaches the door above.
