Don't forget to move your tokens. I think everyone but Kaldan and Thame are in the right spots? if they both make double moves, I put tokens on the spots where Kaldan and Thame could have gotten to this round.

fort save sahuagin: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9
Thame is able to get a spell off that weakens the larger sahuagin.

Lara is able ot hit it with her longsword, though the water makes it harder to get her weight behind the swing Unless I missed an item or ability you have, the longsword is penalized underwater

the big sahuagin gets covered in ink, but still lashes out at Trieste and Lara

Ransuer: 1d20 + 10 + 2 - 2 - 2 ⇒ (9) + 10 + 2 - 2 - 2 = 17
the spear is unable to hit Trieste

bite: 1d20 + 9 + 2 - 2 - 2 ⇒ (20) + 9 + 2 - 2 - 2 = 27
damage: 1d4 + 4 + 4 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (1) + 4 + 4 + 2 - 2 = 9
confirm?: 1d20 + 9 + 2 - 2 - 2 ⇒ (4) + 9 + 2 - 2 - 2 = 11
miss chance: 1d100 ⇒ 88
the creature bites Lara, dealing a bit of damage, but leaving her barely functional

the second sahuagin moves to attack Trieste, drawing a trident as he swims at her.
trident: 1d20 + 8 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 8 + 2 + 2 = 25
damage: 1d8 + 6 + 2 + 1d6 ⇒ (2) + 6 + 2 + (3) = 13
miss chance: 1d100 ⇒ 8
He is not quite able to find her in the ink cloud, and his stab goes wide.

The whole party may act

Was unsure of whether I'd have help or not, so I didn't know how far to move. Will surely go with your movement.

Thame stared at the ink cloud behind him with concern as he hurriedly swam away, then stopped, waiting to see if the others were going to retreat or stand and fight. Kragg looked like he was getting Kaldan back on his feet, so the illusionist prepared to make his way back to the boat (or beach, whichever is closer), unsure of his next action.

If sea devils pop out of the ink cloud, Thame will Blinding Ray the first one to come through, then continue on his brave retreat.

sorry I don't know why I forgot about the boat being right there. probably makes a lot more sense for everyone to swim as quick as possible to the boat.

Everyone swims as quickly as possible towards the waiting boat. Kragg and Kaldan get some help from Triest's companion, Lara is dragged by a dolphin, while Thame and Trieste make use of the spells they have used giving them the ability to swim quickly unassisted.

Doesn't seem to be a need for more dolphins or anything, Triests should easily be able to double move ot the boat with her swim speed. I'll assume that's what she does, correct me if you have something else in mind.

One of the Sahuagin swims out of the ink cloud towards the fleeing group, but is hit by a blinding ray of light from Thame. it shrieks in anger and moves back towards its shipwreck.

And you guys are away. assuming you all get into the boat and row out of the cove, what do you want to do next?

Thankful to be alive, Lara breathes a sigh of relief after the party is safely away. "Whatever we do, I suggest it wait until tomorrow--and that we put a little bit of distance between ourselves and the sahuagin, in case they decide to pursue us further."

Indeed Lara. Lets us get an hour away from here and make camp. We could all use a good night's sleep and some rest. In the morning I will pray to Abadar for his miracles in order to heal us all. Then once we are refreshed and ready we can discuss what our next step is.

A fire gets in his eyes though as his face hardens. I do not know what or who that shrine was to but I know I did not like the looks of it. A large part of me wants to spend another day and return and finish what we started. We know what they are capable of even if they gather help in the form of another 3 or 4 sahuagin reinforcements. Let them. With Triests summoning dolphins to attack and take some of the blows away from us we should be able to carry on and defeat that creature.

Thame if you could make it so you have 2 or 3 of those swim spells available for yourself, Kaldan and Lara that would remove the home field advantage they have. I can prepare the water breathing miracles like I did for today. We blitz them hard and quick and finish this before they come back after us or our colony!

Thame flopped into the boat, his breathing hard and fast, his hand going to the sizable wound still in his side. That had been too close. He nodded vigorously at Trieste's and Lara's words even as he grabbed at an oar to help guide the craft away, a first for the wizard.

Thame was already looking forward to the healing of Abadar the following morning, but he didn't necessarily like the look on Kragg's face when he spoke of planning another assault on the sea devils the next day. The priest did have a point, though...with better planning and preparation, combined with better luck, the fight would certainly be more even. He let out a deep breath, then nodded. "I can prepare the spells, yes. I can also create a ward against their crossbows, should anyone like it." His eyes drifted to Kaldan, who had taken a rather painful shot from one of the crossbows of the sea devils.

Kaldan is silent for some time before speaking. Still carrying severe wounds he eyes the waters with a degree of frustration and anger. "I agree. Lets prepare and return when we're fit again. We've lost one fight and let problems slip away. We can't let that happen again!"

And I should keep track of my abilities better. Favorite enemy includes Sahuagin, and favorite terrain is water. Both of which I didn't use. So some of my problems are my own doing!

Ouch Kaldan, those are some nice abilities lol to forget about. Next time though.

Kragg watches Trieste heal the others and smiles wanly at her. Thank you for healing them. I am too tired right now and out of Abadar's miracles to do much healing at the moment. A good night's rest though will do me wonders.

Thame smiled thankfully at Trieste for the healing, glad the gaping hole in his side was now a smaller, much more manageable hole. It might even leave a nice scar with which to woo a young lady one day. He might have to work on a tan, though, if that was an approach he wanted to take...food for thought. Hearing the others in favor of regrouping back at the colony, the wizard agreed wholeheartedly. "Yes, let's report back and perhaps see if there have been any developments while we were away."

the group returns to the colony by way of the rowboat, and find things ot be relatively calm in the village this evening. Romana is eager to hear a report on what the group has found about the fish-men that they set out to locate, and invites one or more of you to come talk to her as soon as you are unloaded from your foray.

Carver also approaches each of you individually to hear what you have found and to see if you have had time yet to visit any of the sites he is interested in as a Pathfinder. He is very friendly and outgoing, and wants to know more of your backgrounds and what brought you here. he seems very interested in you, and definitely hints strongly that you would make good Pathfinders and that assuming things go well here (which he clearly assumes they will), he would be happy to personally sponsor your applications to the Society.

Feel free to post what your characters say in their updates ot one or both of the town leaders, and what (if any) information you feel like sharing with the Pathfinder. once you guys post that you're ready to either go give another try with the sahuagin or if you want to investigate another site, I'll move things forward

And now that we have an idea of what we're dealing with, we're pretty confident we can finish these off." After talking with the others on the way back, she admits, "Of course, there may be more of these things. We'll need to keep a sharp eye to make sure that they are truly dealt with."

She relaxes a little later when talking with Carver. The alcohol probably helps. Still, she remains a little cagey about her background. She will chat about her father though, and how she grew up around sailors. "Pathfinders, huh? Guess I never really thought about it. What do you gain from belonging?"

Pilgrims, well I wish we had met the earlier group then. Its been a very long time since we've had any friendly surface dwellers. I am Koloshkora, of the Okoloro. This temporary settlement is a migratory hunting camp. When we last came ashore here we saw buildings to the south but no signs of people, though we had brought things to trade with the new settlers. Perhaps we can establish trade with your people then?"

Kragg fills Ramona in quickly but thoroughly on the first meetaing with the Locathah. They seem like a civilized and peaceful group. However, they, like most peaceful folk, seem beset upon by more aggressive races. They have a dispute with the Stryx and with the sahuagin. Should we find a way to deal with both problems I think we would have a strong relationship with them both in terms of trade and peaceful sharing of information. With them being natives I am sure they know many things about the island that could prove invaluable to our survival and viability here.

As Trieste informed them already about the sahuagin threat he did not feel that it was necessary to belabor that point any further.

As they had not made any headway on Carver’s requests nor did he feel like joining the pathfinderskragg paid his respects but them left to check on how his tavern, breweryand bar were coming along.

Lara has the Pathfinder Recruit campaign background trait, and so has already spoken with Carver about their shared Pathfinder backgrounds--although she has hidden this background from everyone else but Carver so far.

The Taldan makes sure to fill her fellow Pathfinder in on all of the events of the past trip into the wilderness. She likewise keeps Ramona fully informed, but otherwise spends her time in the colony brooding. Just what sort of threat are we dealing with here? That was an altar to Dagon--are demon worshipers the cause of the previous colony's troubles, too?

Thame listened to the others fill in Ramona on their travels about the island, only offering bits and pieces to fill in the gaps that might be left. "From what I gathered from the locathah, they seem to have more of a grievance with the Stryx, while they have a violent issue with the sea devils. Maybe we can patch things up between them and the bird-folk."

Feeling personally validated as Carver inquires about him and their successes (or lack thereof) around the island, Thame is happy to explain his start as a scribe and the series of events that led him to the island. While not particularly interested in becoming a Pathfinder, the group did have some rather learned members and insane amounts of resources, so getting in good with them would be a boon.

Later, when they had left Carver and Ramona behind. "Maybe we can try to explore some of the places this Carver was looking at next? Or perhaps talk to the Stryx? Letting the sea devils think we won't be coming back might throw them off guard."

Kaldan stays quiet as the others tell of what has happened, and what they have found. He is still feeling he performed poorly in the last fight and so once the talk is finished he heads to Kraggs tavern to ponder the matter over an ale or two.

He is polite but terse with Carver. Not really talking much of his past. He has little knowledge of the Pathfinders, and feels little need to join them either.

Carver seems to rather enjoy spending time with each of you, and even the shorter replies from Kragg and Kaldan don't seem to put him off his mood.

Trieste:

Carver listens closely as you describe what you're willing to reveal about your father and background
You have had a very full life already! your experience with the sea will come in quite handy exploring these islands. the creature that follows you around is probably a big help as well!

The society asks very little from its members. we are a large organization full of people from all walks of life. the only requirement is a love for learning and willingness to explore. the society does very little to govern your day to day work, they simply ask that you send back reports of any discoveries made. In return you gain access to Pathfinder resources and lodges, and the potential of fame and glory if you uncover a big find!

Kragg:

Carver just smiles and waves to you as you say your farewells. Looking forward to sampling some of your wares when they are ready!

Lara:

Carver spends a long time talking with Lara, asking for her impressions so far of the team, and wanting to know more about both of the tribes the party has encountered. He seems very interested in how the battle went down, and what happened to cause you to leave and how you got out without any casualties.

I think some of your companions would make excellent pathfinders. They are not very interested right now, and I know you are trying to keep low-key. however, some encouragement from you along the way may gain our Society some wonderful new members!

You all have been doing good work in trying to open relations with these local Locathahs, but I must admit I am more excited about the possibilities of what you might find in the ruins around the island. I do hope we'll get to hear more about those soon!

Thame:

Carver seems very interested in what you have to say, and he does his best to make you feel at home. as he fills your glass again, he asks more about how the encounter with the Sahuagin went and how things fell apart. he does his best to encourage you to seek out the Azlanti ruins soon, appealing to your own background as an academic to explain why he is so interested in retracing the steps of the famous Pathfinder of the past.

Kaldan:

Carver isn't pushy and lets you get on with your night. he tries to encourage you about what just happened, telling a story of some amazing creature he fought at one point that he and his group had to flee from. the story sounds partially if not entirely made up, but you can see he is trying to be friendly.

In the morning, both Carver and Ramona come to see you off. Ramona encourages you to do what you can to open up trading relationships with the Locathahs, while carver tries to encourage investigation of one of the ruins nearby. Both make it clear that they want to leave the decision to you, but their preferences are clear.

In the morning, Trieste asks the others where they'd like to go today. "If we're going back in the water, I want to prep a few more swimming spells."

Kragg good naturedly puts on a hurt look on his face. Why Carver you know as well as everyone else that the bar and brewery have been up and running now for a good couple of weeks. Give it another 5 days and the construction on the commons room will be ready. Drop on by tonight to have some refreshments. However you know the rules...no drinks if you are to be on watch tonight and even if you are not on watch you are limited to only 3 drinks maximum. I will not let it be said that I promoted public intoxication in this colony.

The next day Kragg meets with the others as they are about to head out. I think we should finish with the sahuagin and finish the threat before it gets worse. Then we can look at what is closest...the ruins or the Stryx.

Speaking with Carver:

Thame happily imbibed some more of the proffered drink, the opportunity to relax in the company of a fellow academic a nice reprieve from traipsing about the island. As the Pathfinder inquired about the sahuagin, the wizard shrugged. "Overconfidence, likely. We had just dispatched their fellows with relative ease, and the two fellows remaining were apparently much better equipped. They hit hard, and we were ill-prepared spell-wise to deal with them. A mistake we'll not make again." When the man gently pushed for the group to explore the ruins, Thame nodded, though added somberly, "I suspect my companions will want to revisit the sea devils before continuing on, but I'll do my best to get them on track with exploration once that particular threat is dealt with."

The next day

Hearing Kragg mention going back and finishing their fight with the sahuagin, Thame reluctantly nodded his head, having prepared for such an eventuality while studying his spellbook the night before. "I like the idea of the ruins, after. Ruins don't have neighbor problems."

In the morning when matters are being discussed he gives his opinion. "Exploring ruins is nice, but lets make sure the locals aren't going to jump us first."

after some healing and a good night's rest the group is feeling much better in the morning. knowing what they are getting into, they choose to go back to the shipwreck and try again.

you take the canoe out and around the calm waters bordering the island and make your way back to the spot of the last fight. looking down into the water you see the shadowy shape of a shark circling the shipwreck.

Did you guys manage to heal up completely? you would each get your normal overnight health back, assume that someone in the colony was able to give you medical attention so you get double your level. I've updated your health totals in the slides to reflect that. for any remaining health needed, are you using some spells/channels before heading out?

I'm down 4, but I'd rather go out full-strength, honestly. A channel would be nice, as there are some even further down, but that's up to Kragg.

Thame nervously eyed the shadowy figure circling about the shipwreck below, lips pursing as he watched. "Anyone here know about these sea devils? They consort with sharks, or is it a possibility that this shark just did our dirty work for us?" The wizard looked at the others hopefully as he awaited a reply.

For reference, about how big a shadow are we talking?

Between Lara's bard spell slots and Trieste's wand of cleaning, we should be able to go in at full strength without Kragg expending any spells or channels.

In the morning Kragg thanks the healers for tending to their wounds so they could recover quicker. May Abadar bless you this wonderful day!

Getting ready for the day though he prepares his spells to counter the sahuagin threat. He wanted to save some channels as yesterday he spent too much time moving between the group trying to heal them when he could have used his channels instead. Yet he knew it was also the best way to heal the group. For that reason he channeled once to and then took stock of how the rest were doing.

channel once 2d6 ⇒ (5, 5) = 10 I think that tops off Kragg as well so only Kaldan needing 12, Thame 2,and Lara 6 according to the sheet.

know local 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5 lol

At the shipwreck Kragg looked at the shark and shook his head. I have no idea but this would be too easy to have the shark do the dirty work for us. My guess is that we will have to go through it to reach the sahuagin. Whenever we are ready I will start casting the spells for us to encounter the shark and then the sahuagin.

Spells cast...air bubble on Kaldan, Thame and himself (4 minute duration each) and bull's strength and enlarge person on Kaldan (4 minutes each). Shield on himself (4 minutes) Will cast bless and activate aura once we are closer and dolphins appear.

Thame looks down into the water, trying to guage the size of the shark. it looks to be about 15 feet long. (huge creature)

Kaldan, with his favored enemy, would know that Sahuagin have the ability to speak with sharks, and often use them as pets/bodyguards.

"That's a BIG shark, folks...maybe we should rethink this idea." If everyone is still on board with the hunt, Thame agrees that drawing the creature away seems like the best strategy...they already had a tough enough time with the 2 sea devils...adding a ginormous shark to the mix seemed insurmountable.

I do have 2 Touch of the Seas, in addition for Protection from Arrows on Kaldan whenever we get to the sahuagin. That being said...this was already a tough encounter, and if this shark is working with the sahuagin, it's going to be a lot tougher. Spells are cast and Trieste is the first one into the water, along with her companion. the shark is making a long lazy turn around the shipwreck and has not noticed you yet.

Once everyone is in the water or someone starts in towards the ship I will roll initiative and get things moving. I added the spells cast to the stat tracker below, if I missed any call them out

Trieste can't breathe water but she can hold her breath for an insanely long time, currently 12 mins (72 rnds). Jobert can hold his breath for 10 mins (60 rnds). Each standard action reduces that by 1 round and it looks like spells reduce it by 3. I assume everything she casts underwater is in aquan. If it's simpler, I can just have her prep an air bubble for herself

I believe last time, Lara was using a bottle of air--presumably that's how she'd have to do it this time, too.

I switched over from the bottle of air to one more air bubble spell. Lara can hold the bottle of air for now.

Kaldan slips off his boots and slips into the waters.

As it's his favored terrain he has +2 to his initiative. His base swim skill is also 20 now.

Initiative:

Initiative Kaldan: 1d20 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 + 2 = 23
Initiative Thame: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 = 21
Initiative Lara: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22
Initiative Kragg: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (6) + 0 = 6
Initiative Trieste: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (18) + 0 = 18
Initiative shark: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24
Initiative Sahuagin: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 3 = 17

everyone slips out of the boat into the water, all moving naturally in the water. the shark notices them almost immediately and starts making its way over.

bold may act: Kaldan, Lara, Thame, Trieste sahuagin, Kragg

you see one sahuagin that swims from the lip of the ship when the shark starts moving. there aren't a y others in sight right now

Thame eyed the shark nervously as it stopped its motions and started to approach. One of the previous sea devils also seemed to be awake and aware, adding to the tension. Trusting that yesterday was just a fluke, the wizard again cast a spell to create duplicates of himself, edging away from where he assumed the main melee would be occurring so he could shoot or cast from relative safety.

Lara makes sure her water-adapted crossbow is loaded, then casts a spell. Multiple copies of her appear around her, mimicking her movements.

Jobert dives down quickly, disappearing behind a piece of wreckage along the seabed.
stealth: 1d20 + 21 ⇒ (12) + 21 = 33

Trieste moves her arms as she begins to weave her summoning spell. At this point, her head remains just out of the water.

quick edit, she can hold her breath for 120 rounds, and Jobert for 100. 1 round=6 secs, so 10 rounds/minute

Kaldan uses his new mobility in the water to attack with a charge straight at the shark.

Attack + Charge - PA: 1d20 + 9 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (1) + 9 + 2 - 2 = 10

Somedays I wonder...

Ruins of Azlant Maps and Info

the spellcasters cast some more buffs and get into the water, Kaldan goes right for the action by charging right at the snout of the beast but failing to hit.
Don't forget your bonuses from Kragg, he cast Enlarge person and Bulls Strength on you. wouldn't matter with a natural 1, but will matter later. also means you have 10' reach and won't be taking an AoO on the way in

the sahuagin swims wide, and fires at Trieste, knowing she is casting some sort of spell (and having a decent guess what it might be from the last time you showed up...)
Underwater Crossbow: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (9) + 8 = 17
the bolt goes wide and the spell continues.

Kragg may act

The shark bites at Kaldan, its huge mouth opening to rows of teeth.
bite: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (5) + 9 = 14 due to enlarge person and a charge that will still hit
damage: 2d8 + 10 ⇒ (1, 1) + 10 = 12
the creature takes a bite out of Kaldan, and blood seeps from jagged cuts made by the teeth.
bleed damage: 1d6 ⇒ 6

Trieste, Kaldan, Thame, Lara may act.

Went ahead and took the shark's turn, but Kragg's action will be first. split initiatives like this are a bit messy and I did this one wrong. Kragg go ahead and do your round 1 action which I'll slot in as needed, then post a round 2 action. I'll have the sahuagin slip down in the order to group with the shark next round to keep things moving better

also, wow, with 4 casters on the team there are a lot of statuses to keep track of! I think I got them all though

Kragg forgoes casting any spells till the dolphins appear. Instead he moves up next to a Kaldan and attacks with the longspear.
