Thame Smythe
1 person marked this as a favorite.
Hissing through his teeth at the burning pain from his wound, Thame kept his composure as he saw Trieste savage another of the fish men, the net tightening around the remaining two. As his companions surrounded the creature he had just injured, he switched his focus to the other sahuagin threatening him and Lara, wanting it to chill before it could try to possibly claw him again.

With a flurry, the party lands several big blows on the last two injured creatures. Both of them drop dead.
End of combat
The water is still now, though there is much blood in the water around your boat. you can see the shape of a large shipwreck further out in the water.
What do you do next?
Kragg Stoneheart
Kragg watches as the others drop the last 2 sahuagin in the water. calling out to the better swimmers in the group, Grab them. They might have healing potions on them. Once the group is together Kragg will then channel energy to heal the party before they discuss exploring the shipwreck below.
channel 2d6 ⇒ (1, 1) = 2
again 2d6 ⇒ (4, 3) = 7
and again 2d6 ⇒ (4, 4) = 8
Thame Smythe
Feeling that Kragg is likely not talking to him, Thame pulled himself back onto the boat and wrung out his clothes as best he could, thankful for the tropical heat that would likely dry him out quickly. After the group had gathered and had their many wounds healed, the wizard spoke, "Seems like these fish-men are rather deadly beneath the waves. Maybe we should head back and report to Ramona what we've found so far."
The illusionist left unsaid that he'd rather not encounter any more of the fish-folk, after the beating they had taken. At least not without a lot more preparation.
Kaldan Tide
Kaldan with haul the bodies of the Sahaugin from the water, he looks curiously at the shipwreck though and is clearly planning on searching it when his grisly task is finished.
Anyone coming with me?
GM Strikes Back
Kaldan brings the bodies to shore and checks them over. these four are not carrying any weapons or armor, relying on their natural adaptations for both offense and defense. two of the creatures are carrying potions of cure light wounds.
Trieste Carre
Trieste breathes a sigh of relief as Kragg heals the group. Her face is still flushed from the recent combat. "There's no way I'd let you go in there alone, Kal. Though perhaps we can use a bit more stealth this time." She shrugs her shoulders. "My bad, by the way, but I thought I'd at least give them a chance to parley."
Thame Smythe
Thame regarded Kaldan and Trieste and spoke in a neutral tone. "Kragg's spell only lasts a brief period...it might be over, at this point. While I agree that searching the wreck and clearing out these fishmen is a priority, I don't feel I can hold my breath long enough, especially if we encounter any more of them. Even if we don't want to head back to the village, let's at least pull up on the beach and camp and recuperate before we try to investigate further."
The wizard looked to Kragg and Lara for help, though he suspected they might want to go ahead and get the wreck searched and head back to Talmandor's Bounty, as well. The illusionist understood the reasoning, but rushing and possibly dying from it held little appeal. Indeed, the wizard hoped to live a long life free from being savaged underwater by strange creatures.
Kaldan Tide
We can hold our breaths a while." Kaldan says easily. "But we can also tie ropes to ourselves and have you holding them. First sign of trouble and you yanks us back to dry land."
Kragg Stoneheart
While I share Thame’s concerns about the necessity to go down and investigate right now I can say that since coming here my standing with Abadar has increased. The mercies and miracles that he grants me are more powerful and longer lasting than anything I ever thought possible with myself. I am certain that the miracle of breathing under water will last for another 3 minutes. While that should work for the 3 of you I can use the bottle of air and share that as needed.
Looking at Thame, Perhaps a quick look around so we know what to expect for a later venture would work.
Trieste Carre
Trieste nods. "Let's go then." As she concentrates for a moment, two five-foot long tentacles writhe out of her shoulders. "I've got a surprise should we encounter more foes." With that, she smiles and glides through the water with Jobert beside her toward the shipwreck.
Kragg Stoneheart
Kragg gives Thame a quick look as Trieste sprouts tapentacles wondering if he was going to say anything like last time. Hoping nothing happens Kragg turns the topic back to preparations. I have 2 protection miracles designed to increase your defenses. Who would like them?
barkskin and communal protection from evil are available.
GM Strikes Back
To clarify, who is currently in the boat, and who is swimming? is Trieste going to swim from here to the shipwreck?
The water seems calm and clear for now, even the blood from the fight is starting to dissipate into the rest of the water. if anyone is in the shipwreck they don't seem to be reacting to the fight that broke out near the shore.
As you keep posting be sure to update positions on the map. I'll chime in when things react/change, but it sounds like you guys are still working on a plan of attack
Thame Smythe
Thame muttered about taking unnecessary risks, but otherwise offered no further objections to exploring the shipwreck. The prudent side of him did note that leaving it unsearched and then coming back would take more valuable time, so he shrugged off his reservations and set his mind on how to survive another wave of the fish-men, should there be more in the wreck. He did give Trieste an odd look as the tentacles came out of her shoulders, but after her outburst the last time he commented, and the look from Kragg that practically begged him to maintain silence, he wisely refrained from mentioning the tentacular event.
The first thing the wizard did was mumble an incantation once he was back in the boat, a satisfied expression crossing his features as webbing formed between his fingers and toes. Cast Touch of the Sea
As they pulled up to where they would enter the water, the illusionist again performed a short spell-casting, this time creating numerous copies of himself before the group dove into the water and towards the sunken vessel. Cast Mirror Image

"As much as I would like to be protected by Abadar, I have my images to protect me, and I think Trieste and Kaldan will likely encounter trouble first. I defer to them." Thame thought he was being very gracious, considering those two were the most gung-ho about exploring the wreck to begin with. He wore a self-satisfied expression as the group prepared to dive back into the water, going over his memorized spells briefly to re-familiarize himself before possibly having another deadly encounter.
Kragg Stoneheart
Assuming use the longboat to get above the wreck (F2) first then spellcasting before slipping into the water.
Hearing that Thame was willing to exclude himself from the protection from evil spell Kragg cast the spell on the rest giving each 1 minute of protection. Just before that though he cast shield upon himself. Prepped and ready he slipped into the water to follow Kaldan and Trieste.
Lara Evangeline
Lara sighs and readies her longsword before diving back in after the others.

Kaldan is back in the water waiting for everyone to be ready.

looking down through the mostly clear water, you can see the outline of a boat's bow, laying on its side. it has long ago become a part of the reef, with coral growing through the hull. Bone fetishes tied with sinew decorate the edges of a gaping opening in the hull.
I added a marker for the boat and put your tokens around it. please update your positions on the map (either move them or let me know what square you want your pawn moved to if you can't edit it on mobile devices
Thame Smythe
Thame hurriedly swam towards the wreck with the others, knowing that Kragg's spell (and the wizard's own) wouldn't last long. As they approached the ruined ship, the illusionist swam between Lara and Kaldan, prepared to assist in any violent conflict that might erupt. Seeing the bone fetishes tied to the opening in the side of the ship, Thame thought it likely.
Kragg Stoneheart
Kragg struggled swimming along with the rest. He was not cut out for such endeavors it was glad that Abadar was looking out for him in the calm waters. He stayed just behind the others readied to rush forward to provide healing should anyone need it. In 1 hand he gripped the bottle of air to breathe out of and the other gripped his longspear.

Did the aoo from Kragg hit the raging charging sahuagin?
Even with his protections in place Kragg still felt the bite of the crossbow bolt lodge in his side. It was a minor nuisance really but it still gave him some concern. Kragg was just hoping to hold fast till the others could finish their foes and gang up on big red. With big red so close anyways it would not be possible to use the longspear offensively. As such Kragg goes defensive till he can bring the weapon to bear.
Standard to go defensive.

Thame sighed as the sea devils pulled up and pointed crossbows at the group, disappointed that the creatures hadn't charged into his trap. This quickly turned to alarm as one of beast leveled its weapon at the wizard, though the bolt came whizzing close by, a tiny disturbance in the water nearby evidence of the close call.
The illusionist launched into spellcasting, his hand growing almost unbearably cold before he swam up next to Trieste, ready to assist her with the creature threatening her.
