Post will be a touch late, bear with!

.

Nilus starts stalking forwards through the rain, and he is noticed by the zombies! A few of them start stalking towards the paladin, while the others appear to be lining up in front of the boulder.

eeeeeeeheheheheeheheehehehehe

A strange, whining cackle sounds out through the rain.

Nilus steps up and slams Radiance onto an undead abomination

Radiance: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (15) + 16 = 31 Damage: 1d10 + 18 ⇒ (9) + 18 = 27

.

Nilus' glaive swipes right through a zombie, destroying it instantly.

Some zombies amble over to Nilus, and he dimly spies three figures emerge from the other side of the boulder. Two are sickly-looking, green-skinned women, and the last is a burning spectre of a young woman, bathed in green fire.

Knowledge Local DC 15:

The two women are green hags, terrifying crones known to haunt swamps and forests possessed of magical power.

Knowledge Religion DC 24:

The creature in green fire is a Witchfire, a powerful undead hag who is known to form covens with living hags.

The flaming creature cackles insanely before firing a bolt of green flame at Nilus!

Bypassing his armour, the bolt slams into Nilus, burning him horribly!

Nilus takes 25 damage, and must make a DC 24 will save or be sickened! Everyone is up!

Nilus burns a Mythic point to absorb 15 points of damage.

Guardian's Call Ability Absorb Blow (Su):
: As an immediate action, whenever you take hit point damage from a single source (such as a dragon's breath, a spell, or a weapon), you can expend one use of mythic power to reduce the damage you take from that source by 5 per tier (to a minimum of 0 points of damage taken). If you have another ability or effect that reduces damage (such as protection from energy), reduce the damage with the absorb blow ability before applying any other damage-reducing effects. For every 10 points of damage that this ability prevents, for 1 minute you gain DR 1/epic and 5 points of resistance against acid, cold, electricity, fire, and sonic damage. The DR and resistances stack with any other DR and resistances that you have.

Nilus now has DR6/Epic and 5 points of resistance against acid, cold, electricity, fire, and sonic damage for 1 minute

Will: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (4) + 10 = 14 Nilus is sickened.

Nilus takes a step south and attacks the two Zombies south of him

Hooray, I have internet again!

Ayesha had been quiet after the search of the chapel. The depictions there of good taken to so far an extreme that it wrapped completely around the spectrum into evil cut a little close to home for her, given her recent ruminations about her own abilities and actions.

Thus, the presence of the zombies was a relief. An obvious target for her frustrations, and one that seemed clear cut. No redemption of the fallen, no half-truths. Simply undead minions that could be dispatched with impunity.

As Nilus ran forward to engage them, Ayesha drew Darb N'ssiar and held the black blade aloft. These foes wouldn't require much in the may of her magics - or so she thought until the hags appeared.

Immediately, Ayesha slowed her charge and began chanting the words to Ronan's favorite spell (how she missed that man at times like these).

Casting Haste, should catch everyone.

With Nilus up front, Sarkast would be too far back for Haste, but that's ok.

Sarkast waits for a moment while Dejik and Ayesha cast their spells, then moves in to join Nilus. "Better we stick together than get separated. Does anyone recognize those creatures?"

Sarkast moves up and attacks a zombie near Nilus while waiting to see how the others react to the burst of radiance.

A burst of white radiance appears around Nilus before coalescing into a protective barrier, and he gets busy killing zombies. Sarkast damages a zombie while Ayesha casts a haste spell in memory of Ronan.

Dejik calls upon her goddess and there is a brilliant blast of light, causing shrieks from the hags! The witchfire and one hag appear blinded, while the remaining one can still see. The zombies that were protecting them are instantly annihilated.

Yep, I always assume Dejik has her mythic endure elements down. And Sarkast would not need to use the mythic point.

Nilus and Dejik both strike the southernmost hag, who shrieks in agony, her black blood spraying around on the ground.

The coven steps back, chanting rapidly, and they all throw their hands towards the group. A sense of incredible, sweating fatigue overwhelms Dejik, Sarkast, and Nilus. Ayesha, too busy putting herself out, is out of range of the spell.

One zombie steps in to swipe at Nilus. Its attack is so clumsy that it collapses face-first in front of hte paladin. The other zombie circles around Sarkast, trying to impose itself between Sarkast and the coven.

Nilus and Sarkast flank the southernmost hag, and with several swipes, it collapses in a pool of blood. The remaining two let out a wail of incredible pain and torment to the strange, pitch-dark sky of the Worldwound.

The group, now closed in melee range with the remaining hag and witchfire, start a series of brutal attacks.

Nilus slashes the green hag in front of him twice, dropping her at his feet. Sarkast and Ayesha encircle the witchfire, and both of them turn into a flurry of acrobatic, spectacular attacks. The witchfire, blinded, and in agony, is unable to defend herself entirely, and as Ayesha's shocking grasp spell lands, she is destroyed completely, incinerated where she stands.

Their masters dead, the zombies collapse.

End of Combat

The coven destroyed, the only sound that remains is the pouring, miserable rain. As you take stock of your injuries and the incredible exhaustion caused by the hags, you notice a small light from the boulders to the north. It appears that a small cave was inhabited by the hags.

As the creatures drop, Sarkast staggers forward, catching himself before falling. "So tired ... and such pain as I have never felt."

He takes several deep breaths, then notices the light to the north.

"We should at least get out of the rain. Wait here while I take a look."

Despite the heavy fatigue, he takes off quickly and quietly to scout ahead.

Spending a Mythic point to activate Impossible Speed for 1 hour. At half speed due to exhaustion, then half again to avoid Stealth penalties, Sarkast moves at 25'. Taking 10 for 22 Stealth and 26 Perception to make sure there are no traps or dangers before calling the group up.

Also, I realized that the reason Sarkast was encumbered from the exhaustion is because I have his 10 lb Noble's Outfit in his carried gear. That would be back at base camp, so he's not actually encumbered.

Nilus, the strength spell will last for several more minutes--we can wait and see if the exhaustion fades by then.

She turns to Sarkast. I know I can lessen the effect, but it will take me several seconds. If we have a minute to wait, I might be able to remove it completely.

After Sarkast drops out of rage, Dejik will cast Lesser Restoration to reduce exhausted to fatigued. If we want to wait another 3 rounds she can cast it again to remove fatigued. That would give Ayesha some time to see if the hags had any useful information or clues on them...

Ayesha leaned precariously for a moment, trying to catch her breath after that last flurry of activity. She watched as her wounds healed before moving to investigate the hags. Carefully, she picked around the corpses and ashes, looking for interesting items or clues as to what these hags were doing here...other than ambushing them, obviously.

Gonna take 20 on this one, for a 37 total. We're in no hurry, right?

.

No hurry at all.

The gear of the zombies resembles a mixture of crusaders, cultists, and Wintersun clansmen. It appears the hags were developing a small army from whoever was unlucky enough to stop by. However, there is nothing of value beyond old broken weapons and armour.

The cave itself appears to be the hags' home and is actually well-appointed and extremely pleasant with two large beds. No traps are found as Sarkast searches, and the cave is even well-stocked with food, although the food is entirely meat and of questionable origin.

Various trinkets are scattered about, and a detect magic spell reveals several smaller items of power.

- A campsite feather token
- A bird feather token
- A ram feather token
- A pearl of power, level 1
- A swift runner's shirt
- 665.23 gold in various coins
- A small bag of gems and precious stones

You are free to camp here or outside if you so wish, or check into anything else. I'll push to the next location tomorrow.

Female Magus 12 | AC 26 T 16 F 21| HP 102| F +9 R +9 W +8 | Init +11 | Perc +18

Ayesha laid out the magical treasures carefully, explaining the powers of each one as she did. Setting aside the feathers and pearl, which she tossed in her belt pouch, she held up the shirt. "This will make you more maneuverable once a day. Perhaps Nilus or Sarkast would get the most use out of it? You two seem to benefit from the mobility more than Dejik and I. I'll keep these other gewgaws until we need them or decide to sell them."

"We might as well camp here for the night. It's relatively secure, and no natural predator is going to come near this place for a few days. I wouldn't suggest you eat the food though. Hags are known for their...indelicate sensibilities when it comes to food sources. Some of those zombies out there looked a little gnawed on, maybe missing a steak or two."

Sarkast listens as Ayesha describes the magical items. "That shirt could prove useful, to let me quickly get into position around an enemy. Nilus, what do you think? Would you have use for it?"

The scout checks the cave area and determines it is safe enough. "I think camping here makes sense. We definitely need to recover from that encounter."

.

The you bed down, falling asleep almost instantly thanks to the power of the coven's spell. Come the morning, you get up, and continue on.

Rocky badlands with huge chasms make the going very difficult as you find clever ways to cross, using Sarkast's phenomenal skill in these parts to save as much time as possible. Eventually you find yourself walking along a rocky rift in the ground. Far in its depths, you begin to see molten rock.

Finally, you come to the apparent location of the tomb, marked according to the notes from Jesker and Sarkast's own gathered knowledge of the area. What the tomb looks like is unknown. To your right and ahead stretch rocky badlands, devoid of feature. To your left, the chasm plummets 200' down towards molten lava.

I will be away from Wednesday to Sunday, however I'll sneak in updates if I can find time.

Nilus is already in a pickle when it comes to swift actions...LoH/Mythic Surge/Immediate Action abilities all vying for a place in the finite pool that is the action economy. I fear I'd never use the shirt...

Sarkast it is then :P

Ayesha stared about at the location where the tomb was supposed to be. "Underground, do you think? Perhaps a hidden entrance up here, or down the cliffside a bit?" She cast about for signs of the tomb's entrance.

"I have experience with climbing up and down steep slopes. I can go down a bit to see if I can see any caverns or tunnels."

With Wall Run, my insane speed, and a good climb check, I should be able to give a pretty good look over the area. I'll drink an Elixir of Vision and spend a mythic point for Impossible Speed. That gives me a base 100' move. Even if I have to move half speed, that's 100' per round, taking 10 for 30 Acrobatics, 25 Climb, 27 Stealth, and 38 Perception.

Dejik will heal everyone up to full and remove any outstanding conditions (fatigue, exhaustion, etc.). She will also use the Extend metamagic rod to cast Extended Mythic Endure Elements before going to bed. (That will last for 48 hours, now, freeing up a mythic point tomorrow.)

BACK

With the group staring down at the chasm, Sarkast simply downs a vial and starts scampering down the rock wall with ease! Moving with incredible ease and agility, he leaps from rock to rock, checking the area. With some assistance from Ayesha looking from above, the two are able to find an entrance around 200' below, a very short distance up from the flowing lava.

Male Kellid Rogue (Unch) 11 / Urban Bloodrager 1 / Trickster 5| AC 29(32 w/Cmb Exp) T 18 F 22 | HP 122/122 | F +7 R +14 W +5 | Init +11 | Perc +21

After finding the entrance, Sarkast starts tying off ropes and setting grappling hooks into stones to provide help for the others to descend.

How hard is it going to be for the others to make it down safely? With ropes and hooks and Aid Another from Sarkast, will everyone be able to descend safely?

.

Climbing down a secured, knotted rope is DC 5. Nilus would be the only issue, and his climb is -2, so everyone can make it taking 10.

Sarkast rushes up and down the rock, setting in grapples. The group very carefully descends down with Sarkast securing the ropes at the bottom, and everyone manages to get into the cave entrance. Heat from the lava would be unbearable if not for Dejik's protective spell. The four of you enter a tunnel, which plunges into the side of the rock.

The tunnel opens into a large cavern, through which a bubbling river of lava flows lazily between a number of gaping pits. A small ledge sits near the center; upon the ledge lies a slab of smoky crystal inside of which a faint humanoid form is visible.

Sitting atop the crystal is a sunken-eyed man loosely holding a longbow. His eyes are exhausted and the front of his armour is caked with vomit. He spots you and speaks in a dull voice.

"I've only brought shame upon my family, my god, and all the people
who loved and trusted me. You've come here to save me, but you're too late. I'm done with this failure of a life, and now that you're here to witness my end ... "

Sense Motive DC 15:

He looks like he's about to throw himself into the lava.

Sense Motive DC 25:

He does not appear to be in control of his actions.

He stands, and starts to get off of the crystal.

Can we take 10 on the Sense Motive? Also, I don't see him on the map, where is he? Finally, would anything prevent Sarkast from jumping over the lava streams? At their widest they appear to be 10'.

What rubbish. Shame? Do you not know that all life is precious? All! Even Erastil the Hunter understands this! Do you not pray over your kills and thank them for their beauty? Everything has a purpose Jeskar, do not throw yours away. Nilus pleads with the man, walking towards him hands upraised

10 on SM is fine, and Sarkast can jump over the lava no problem. He's been added to the map.

Jesker
