Dr Iozif Drabardi
Before they go Iozif would like to have quick look at the recipe for making their injections. Just to make sure none of the ingredients are lightly boiled puppies or something similar.
Whiskeyjack Dunaldthal
"I ain't happy 'bout i' either, little one, bu' sometimes we ain't go' much choice. Unless we want t' be takin' th' chance o' one o' us gettin' dead jest t' keep these unfortunate things from gettin' away, we gotta le' 'em go."
"Th' real question is ken we be waitin' fer this Vorkstag t' show back up, 'r do we make fer th' courthouse t' present wha' we found? Prolly got enough evidence t' be making th' case tha' Brodur didnae do fer th' Morast folks, but I dinnae like th' though' o' this Vorkstag fellow gettin' away. Still gotta disprove th' missin' kids and I don't know what t' do fer th' university, since 'e was caught red-handed there."
Arval Beyondane
Arval keeps his distance from the weird creature, his hand on his sword in case the situation turns for the worse. He doesn't trust it but keeps his cool, letting the others deal with it. He is eager to leave this place if anyone suggests it, not wanting to prove himself a scaredy cat.
Dr Iozif Drabardi
"Well at least nothing here seems amiss, I'm happy to let them go on their way."
"As for Brodur, the trial tomorrow is only for the Morast case yes? We should at least be able to get him off for that, and maybe even have the other cases thrown out if we can convince the judge that it was only superstition and prejudice that got him convicted. Though as you say, he was caught red-handed at the university, so that might be easier said than done."
"I suggest we return to the courthouse to present our findings and give the defender time to prepare his case. Maybe while we're there we can suggest a contingent of guards be sent here to wait for Mister Vorkstag's return?"
Vladlena
|
He hasn't been charged by the town for the university. Not yet anyway. But you are right. Let us return with the evidence and warn the guards.
Kawrock of the Phoenix Clan
"I do not think it is this simple. These faces and that skin with the caiman bite are very disturbing evadince. We kept looking for a way for someone to break in at the university, but found no trace of such methods. We also know that these people that disappear seem to go willingly." Kawrock clicks his tongue twice and ruffles his feathers. "I fear this Vorstag has the ability to wear the faces of his victims. This allows him to lure new victims to come along willingly. It would also allow him to gain access to the university to steal the idol as an inside job and summon Brodur to take the blame. He could have very well been the professor we spoke to.
The Tengu looks at his companions "I think it best to try to ambush this man before he has a chance to hide in plain site from us." Kawrock then askes their new undead friends. "How does master Volstag come and go on these hunting trips? The sewers? So that he can avoid detection?
GM SpiderBeard
Ding! Welcome to level 5!
The chymickal ones, their arms full of books, nod a few times.
"He always comes and goes by the sewers, sometimes wearing different faces. He has appeared in many guises."
Eldon Appleton
"He's too dangerous a man to walk free. Imagine he tries to take revenge and takes out Brodur's lawyer, then wears the man's face during the trials."
Eldon puts his hand on his chin as he thinks out loud. "We need to make sure Vorkstag doesn't run off, like Grime tried... We may not find him if he escapes into the sewers..."
Dr Iozif Drabardi
[b]"That's both a very good point, and a frightening proposition. So we go after Vorkstag, but what do we do about this one?"[b] Iozif tilts his head in Grine's direction with an angry frown on his face.
Arval Beyondane
Arval rummages through his pack and grabs a sack and some rope out of it.
"Think we should put 'em in here and drag 'em along. He doesn't way too much."
He offers the group.
Kawrock of the Phoenix Clan
"Lets tie this fellow up and wait by the sewers to see if this Volkstag fellow shows up. Just be aware he might show up as someone we may know, so don't hesitate to subdue them." Kawrock says as he begins to tie up their prisoner.
Eldon Appleton
Eldon nods in agreement and follows the others. "I do hope we won't have to wait for a prolonged period of time."
Vladlena
|
I don't know...securing the evidence and the prisoner is important. But if you think so. Let us wait an hour, then reconsider.
spiderbeard, do we have a time limit to submit evidence? Maybe you could put a info link in the campaign info above with the courts rules?
GM SpiderBeard
You have to submit evidence by 10am each morning, so you can be pretty last-minute. If you want to wait by the grate let me know if you're sleeping or not. It's getting on to midnight and fatigue will eventually kick in.
Whiskeyjack Dunaldthal
"If'n we be waitin' here, an' I be thinkin' tha' we should, then we need t' be settin' a watch an' gettin' wha' rest we ken. Th' zombie things said Vorkstag usually be ou' all nigh', bu' no sense in lettin' 'im catch us all unawares. I ken be takin' a few o' th' watches, since I have no need fer ligh' tha' migh' be givin' us away."
Eldon Appleton
"An agreeable proposition," Eldon replies to Whiskeyjack. "I shall sleep first, to increase the rest I receive before you're in need of my invaluable moral and mental support in lethal combat."
That said, Eldon moves into the corridor that leads to the pool. He takes out his bedroll and lies down. Before he tries to sleep Eldon casts cure light wounds on himself.

Dr Iozif Drabardi
"I'll take watch if needed, but I'm afraid my eyes aren't what they used to be, and I've not prepared any spells which would aid me in this endeavor. Besides, I could do with some good rest to prepare better for tomorrow."
GM SpiderBeard
The group camps out by the grate, setting out their bed rolls and taking turns on watches. The exhaustion of the incredibly busy, overwhelming day sets in and soon everyone is asleep except the assigned watcher.
1d6 ⇒ 3
Perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (6) + 10 = 16
Many hours later, Eldon is awakened and sets down for his watch, the last of the night. Today is the court date for the Beast's crimes in Morast. While Eldon settles in to recollect the heroic adventures of the past day, and how to turn them into a great, inspiring tale, he hears splashing coming through the sewer grate. Someone is approaching, and not attempting to be quiet about it.
Please position yourselves on the map where you need to be.
Arval Beyondane
Arval looks around at the others and looks to think to himself for a bit.
"I am no use when I'm tired. And I have had some... bad experiences during watches before."
He says a bit ashamed of himself.
"Last time I took watch someone almost stood right next to me before I noticed him..."
He looks from person to person, hoping that one of them offers to take the watch.
Dr Iozif Drabardi
As Iozif has not yet been able to prepare any new spells for the day he is not as ready as he had hoped to be. Nevertheless, a true wizard is always prepared.
Iozif reaches in to his rucksack and pulls out a tanglefoot bag. He stands on the other side of the door opposite Kawrock, ready to trap their opponent.
Vladlena
|
Lena's position is ok on the map. She'll sleep first.
Whiskeyjack Dunaldthal
perception: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (18) + 12 = 30
Whiskeyjack was dozing as Eldon took his turn at watch. He couldn't truly get some rest because every time he started snoring, Kawrock poked him. Finally, he settled in and was truly heading for dreamland when the sound of splashing reached him. Whiskeyjack sat up , climbed carefully to his feet and readied himself.
Eldon Appleton
Eldon quickly pokes those who haven't yet woken up by the sound of someone who's approaching. After doing so, Eldon gets ready to dazzle whoever is approaching with the greatness that is him.
Vladlena

or something like that
Eldon Appleton
Hmm... my nose suddenly tickles... I remember mother always said that means someone's talking about you. Or was it thinking...?
A smug grin appears on Eldon's face.
Well, it's no wonder people would talk or think about me.
GM SpiderBeard
The group lies in wait while the splashing grows louder. Finally, there is a click as the grate opens. For a moment, there is quiet breathing. In the darkness, the group spies a gaunt figure that looks like a man stripped of his skin. His bare muscles glisten wetly as your eyes meet. He has seen the party, and bursts into action! Quickly, he

Moving quickly before you can react, he pulls something from a pouch, and hurls it at the floor! A bright, blinding light flares up.
Everyone must make a DC 15 fort save or be blinded! Everyone is up!
Arval Beyondane
Fort save: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6
Arval jumps a little at the bright flash and immediately pulls up his shield.
"What the...?"
Total defense
Eldon Appleton
Fort: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23
Eldon happens to blink when the bright light flares up, coincidentally saving himself from becoming blinded.
Amazing! My reflexes are even better than I was aware of!
"Stop right there, you skinless bastard!" Eldon announces and points a finger at the enemy.
He then casts a spell that'll fill the enemy's mind with tales of the unrivaled strength and bravery of Eldon Appleton. "You know who I am! Tremble before me!"
Cacophonous Call: DC 15 Will to resist
What kind of humanoid is the enemy and what does Eldon know about it?

You've had enough background info on this guy to get a +2.
Eldon's Knowledge Nature: 1d20 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 6 + 2 = 18
Rather than a humanoid, Eldon identifies the creature as a fey, a particularly foul type called a skin stealer. They are known for flaying their victims alive and stealing their appearance by wearing the skins.
WIll Save: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (20) + 9 = 29
What must only be Vorkstag snarls, and shakes his head rapidly as he resists Eldon's spell!
You blind folks can still take actions. You're just, y'know, blind.

I apologize for the silence. I apparently failed a Fort save on Thursday and have been out of it all weekend.
Speaking of Fort saves... Fort: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12
"Damn ye fer a pansy-waisted horse fluffer, ye half-nixie concubine!" shouted Whiskeyjack as the searing glare tore through his vision. Unable to see to attack, Whiskeyack instead called upon the powers of Angradd to ignite his warhammer. The weapon blazed with the divine fire of Angradd's forge, lighting up the area around him like a torch.
Using a blessing to light his hammer on fire. oh, and blinking madly, cursing, and almost literally frothing with rage.

Most of the group is blinded by the flash powder. Whiskeyjack roars the sorts of things a priest should never say and his hammer bursts into flames! Eldon sees Vorkstag take an involuntary step back at the sight of the infuriated dwarf. Arval defends himself while Lena quickly casts a protective spell.
Waiting on Iozif, Kawrock also has an action to take!.
Kawrock of the Phoenix Clan
Feeling the wall next to him Kawrock moves into the opening to the sewers and lets a burning hands loose down the corridor. "Filthy sneaky rat. I'll flush you out with fire."

Iozif yelps as he is blinded.
Snarling, Vorkstag, pulls out a potion, and drinks it. The skin changer vanishes from sight! Kawrock feels something brush past him, and then nothing.
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 24 ⇒ (6) + 24 = 30
Everyone is up! Vorkstag is now invisible. You can all see again. Map is updated.

Hmm where could he be...draw a potion, drink a potion, move. A lot for one round. Still...
Lena steps to the nearby door, blocking it as best she can. She casts burning hands down the corridor towards the secret door.

Sorry, he had drawn the potion in round one. That was terribly unclear.
Lena's burning hands hits nothing while Whiskeyjack moves to block the door. Arval then swings out hard at the centre of the room, hitting nothing.
No luck. Kawrock, Iozif, and Eldon are up!

Doubt I hear anything with that roll.
Eldon draws his rapier and starts talking again. "Ah, invisibility! There are a few who possess the gift to hide themselves from my eyes, but they'll never be able to hide for long! Listen carefully, comrades, as I explain to you how to find those who are hiding their appearance from us!"
Inspire Courage is up!

Did Kawrock's burning hands from earlier hit him? Before he went invisible?
Kawrock will block the way back into the sewers and try and pinpoint the invisible foe.

Burning hands did not hit him. Also, Iozif hasn't posted in a week. I'll put him on autopilot until I hear from the player.
The group holds still, looking around carefully. However, Kawrock begins pawing around, and his claw brushes something directly south of him! He chants the spell. However, as the tengu begins casting, Vorkstag appears directly south of him, swinging out with a huge mace!
Attack of Opportunity: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (19) + 13 = 32 Damage: 1d8 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10
