Mikail the Nimble
|
Mikail gives a full body shiver as it feels like ice cold water emanates from where Ferabra's hand touches his shoulder. "Thanks! I think we may need that here.. This doesn't look too good, does it?! I mean.. where else would we expect to find the leader of this insane cult but at its temple, right?"
| Our Mysterious Benefactor |
Zolarus, Mikail and Hoshiko notice some..thing lurking in the shadows by the doors. It looks vaguely wolfish, but about the size of a man.
Mikail the Nimble
|
"Umm... Guys?? We have a problem.. That's an awful big wolf standing over there in the door..." Hesitation colors his words as he warns his friends, and without further ado or warning, he blinks out of sight!
Vanish and step away from the group. I am not sure where the thing we are looking at is, so I cant adjust my token. Simple explanation: I am vanishing and stepping so that when we take this thing on, I can eventually come up behind it with my sneak attack.
| Our Mysterious Benefactor |
All you can see is a vague shape, since he's hiding in the shadows. It's impossible to tell anything more specific than that.
Mikail begins to move closer, but the shape doesn't seem to take any notice of your movements.
Added a marker for the location of the shape. Place yourselves accordingly.
Ferabras
|
Ferabras strides closer, bracing for the battle to come.
Moved up on map to be within 50' or so. Fera has darkvision, so there are no shadows for him, and it doesn't look like the baddy has any form of concealment, so I should be able to see him if he's just using Stealth.
| Our Mysterious Benefactor |
Ferabras moves closer to the doors and spots the creature lurking there. Patches of fur adorn the sickly flesh of this gangly but muscular hyena-headed humanoid.
It seems to smile at Ferabras, as if it knows you see it, then disappears!
Zolarus
|
Wait for me friendssss!
Zolarus moves to the center of his companions. After hearing Mikail's warning, he casts Bless on the party! (6 minute duration)
Mikail the Nimble
|
Mikail moves forward under the cover of his invisibility spell, while keeping his eyes and ears open for any sign of that creature!
Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (16) + 9 = 25
2 questions: As an area spell that deals no damage, would glitterdust reveal me? Secondly, is the ground dirt or rock? we can look for footprints in the dirt, or even toss dirt through the air to create dust through which we would see the creature (much like a bag of chalk, etc?)
| Our Mysterious Benefactor |
Mikail spots movement to the east behind a column of stone!
First, if it doesn't require an attack roll, no, I don't believe it ends invisibility, if that's what I think you're asking. Second, the ground is mostly stone with some gravel here and there. The krenshars that usually lair here have obliterated most tracks with their back and forth. However, no you don't spot any footsteps that look like invisible people walking. You think you might have heard a soft BAMF like a teleporting person might make...
Mikail the Nimble
|
Actually, rereading the invisibility description once again answered my question. "For purposes of this spell, an attack includes any spell targeting a foe or whose area or effect includes a foe. So yes, casting glitterdust at the enemy should end my invisibility as well.
Mikail moves forward, where he can see around the column of stone. As he moves, he is also pulling out one of his many scrolls.. He begins to chant, knowing that the casting will end his own invisibility, but hoping to bring this creature into the light as well! He fades into view while hoping and praying that the enemy will be blinded as well as visible!
UMD: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (20) + 13 = 33
Casting Glitterdust, DC 14 will to not be blinded, either way visible for 5 rnds.
| Our Mysterious Benefactor |
I learned something new! Hooray! I swear by the time they come out with Pathfinder 3rd edition, I'm sure I'll have this edition figured out.
Will: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10 As the glitter explodes, Mikail hears a snarling cry of anger and surprise! As Mikail moves around the column he spots the thing: it looks like an emaciated gnoll, though much more jackal-like than a gnoll.
Ferabras: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 1 = 18
Hoshiko: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18
Mikail: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19
Zolarus: 1d20 ⇒ 7

Othine: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22
Foe: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 = 21
Round 1:
Othine
Jackal-man?
Mikail, Ferabras, Hoshiko, Soran and Zolarus!
Othine cries out as the thing is revealed. "That's a yaenit demon! Don't get too close, they have a terrible aura that causes hallucinations!"
The yaenit screams in anger! He kicks his foot out and when it hits a small stone, he points at it. Suddenly this section of the cave is plunged into darkness! Dim light becomes darkness! Will: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16 The yaenit is no longer blinded!
Mikail, Ferabras, Hoshiko, Soran and Zolarus are up!
| Our Mysterious Benefactor |
Anyone getting within 20' of the yaenit demon must make a a DC 17 Will save or succumb to the demon’s foul, mind-warping magic. A creature ffected by a yaenit’s hallucinatory aura takes a –2 penalty on Will saves, caster level checks, Intelligence-based skill checks, and Wisdom-based skill checks for as long as it remains within the aura’s range and for 1d4–1 rounds after leaving the area of effect. This is a mind-affecting effect. Whether or not the save is successful, an affected creature is immune to the same yaenit’s hallucinatory aura for 24 hours.
Ferabras
|
Fera laughs at the demon's frustration, calling out, "Your darkness cannot protect you from me!" He strides forward, resisting the creature's strange aura and pointing into the darkness while he tells his companions, "The foe stands here, strike him!" He then swings his blade hard, though not very effectively.
Miove action to get into position, swift to activate Battle Cry, standard to attack with Smite Evil, . Darkness has no effect due to darkvision.

Greatsword damage, PA, Smite: 2d6 + 8 + 6 + 6 ⇒ (5, 2) + 8 + 6 + 6 = 27
AC vs the demon is now 27.
Remember the +1 to attacks from Battle Cry, everyone!

Will Save: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
UMD: 1d20 + 13 - 2 ⇒ (15) + 13 - 2 = 26
Mikail strides forward to get a clear picture of where he wants to unleash the next spell. As he passes closer to the beast, nightmares begin to rise from the darkness around him clutching at him with dreadful claws. He sees the faces of tortured slaves, of man eating (or fox eating) ladders, and frightening masked clerics all leering or clawing for or begging him.. he closes his eyes for a moment before pushing though, raising a scroll to the ready as he hardens his heart to his duty. Once more he reads magical words off the page and watches as they flash and flare then smolder and disappear. Suddenly, a deep pit opens up beneath the creature!
Fera, Sorry, but you need a reflex as well, but at a +2. Otherwise you slide in too..
Create pit 20 ft deep. DC 14 or 17 reflex or fall... Edit: See below
I forgot about my circlet of persuasion for my DC's! +3 to charisma checks. I am not sure if this is a direct +3 to my DC as a charisma based check, or how this gets added in. Base is 10+Spell level (2)+ Charisma mod (2)
Ferabras
|
Fera only has to make a save if he ends his turn adjacent to the pit. In a face-to-face game, Mika would have gone first and Fera would have been able to react to the outcome of the spell and not end his turn next to the pit. In PbP, this gets a bit complicated, but Fera would certainly have avoided finishing his turn at the edge of the pit. I'll roll a save just in case, so our illustrious DM can rule on it, but I'm hoping not to have to use it.
Reflex, DC 14: 1d20 + 7 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 7 + 2 = 11
Hmm.
| Our Mysterious Benefactor |
In PBP, since I use a group sort of initiative, where I let everyone post and sort it out later, I tend to assume that PCs will coordinate with each other in the same fashion that they tend to at a face-to-face table. Only if someone calls out a specific action stating that they would take a potentially dangerous action do I (usually) have them take that action.
Ferabras steps up to the Yaenit, but his slash misses by a hair as the demon dodges! Mikail creates a pit! I don't think spell save DCs count as checks for this, but a concentration roll would. Reflex: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (11) + 8 = 19 But the yaenit proves agile and dances to the side as it forms. Zolarus casts a spell of ill fortune on the demon!
Soran and Hoshiko! Also a heads-up: I will be going to Gencon so next week posting will slow and probably cease while I Con. If anyone is planning to go, look me up! I'll be running SFS all weekend, so I should be around the Sagamore.

Hoshiko moves up, while Soran holds, looking for a good target.
Round 2:
Othine
Yaenit demon
Mikail, Ferabras, Hoshiko, Soran and Zolarus!
Othine moves down and watches. While she can see sudden glimpses of the demon, she cannot penetrate the darkness!
The yaenit snarls and slashes at Ferabras! "For Lamashtu! Mother, grant them pain!"

Ferabras slashes and bites at the demon, glad that Zolarus’ magic has protected him yet again! ”You’ll feel no lack of pain, servant of evil!” he cries, before stepping away from the sloped edge of the pit. As he moves, he says, ”Othine, step back so I can be in the fight without falling into that pit!”
Full attack with smite, then 5-foot step back. I’m hoping Othine will 5-foot step to let Fera move into her space, so the demon is stuck on the edge of the pit and Fera can still attack it.
+1 Greatsword, PA, Smite, Bless: 1d20 + 15 - 2 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 15 - 2 + 1 = 28

Speaking of which, shouldn’t the demon have to make a Reflex save, since it ended its turn adjacent to the pit?

Othine doesn't seem to hear you, fixated as she is by the demon.
Reflex: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (16) + 8 = 24 The Yaenit doesn't seem bothered by its precarious footing!

Round 3:
Othine
Yaenit demon
Mikail, Ferabras, Hoshiko, Soran and Zolarus!
Othine steps around Mikail and readies an attack, which triggers as the demon steps SW! Longsword: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (9) + 10 = 19 for 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10 damage! Her sword scores a cut on the demon's shoulder!
The yaenit snarls and swings at Mikail! Falchion: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (14) + 14 = 28 or Misfortune: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (5) + 14 = 19 for 2d4 + 7 ⇒ (4, 2) + 7 = 13 damage! Falchion: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (3) + 9 = 12 for 2d4 + 7 ⇒ (1, 3) + 7 = 11 damage! Bite: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (7) + 8 = 15 for 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3 damage!
However the demon's sword seems to ding off Mikail's rapier and misses him by inches!
Mikail, Ferabras, Hoshiko, Soran and Zolarus are up!

Ferabras moves into place and barely misses the demon, who slides and dodges like a snake. Soran's arrow misses as well, but Mikail takes advantage of his moves and waits for his moment, striking like a viper himself! The demon looks down to see the rapier impaling his heart! He looks at Mikail and smiling with blood dripping from his mouth, pulls the kitsune close and whispers in his ear, "The Mother waits for you inside. Prepare for her embrace." before toppling backwards to twitch once before dying.

Mikail spits towards the cultist as the man slides off his rapier and falls to the floor, dead. Quickly, he begins to rifle through the mans pockets to find anything of use before turning his vulpine snout towards each direction out of the room. His ears cock and swivel as he tries to decide which what to go next. First he moves quickly down the length of the room they are in past the statues, then he pokes his head into the antechamber. Alcove: A short passage connects this small oval chamber to the adjacent foyer. A shallow, coal-filled pit occupies the center. Blackened urns engraved with primitive runes line both sides of the pit.
Deeper into the main room: A trio of shallow alcoves lines each side of this wide, arched hallway. At the far end of the passage, overlooking everything, a huge, terrible statue of a pregnant, winged, jackal-headed woman perches upon a great stone dais.
The door room: Strips of cured human flesh scribed in ancient runes dangle from this chamber’s walls. An oil-filled brazier in the northern corner provides illumination and gives off the faint smell of burnt hair. There are no traps and the door is unlocked.
Othine points toward the statues. "I think we should examine this before we go deeper. That statue looks important."
Ferabras
|
"Very well, Othine," Ferabras responds. "Let's take a look at this monstrosity of a statue. Be careful everyone, and remember the statue of masks we once fought - it may be more lively than it seems."
