Classic poochie... Love it!

Jaender nods to the strong brute. "Sounds good, I will begin the watch outside. Back inside in an hour." Jaender tightens up his thick coat and steps outside, into the darkness. He spends his time walking under the relative protection of the trees nearby, and decides that perhaps he can enjoy the incredible display of power that nature has to show.

The storm rages outside, the bitter cold biting. The pathfinders rotate back into the shelter prior to succumbing to the cold.

While he is out in the cold, Jaender notices something remarkable. Growing out from the snowbank, a delicate flower is blooming. A delicate silvery-blue, its petals look like they are carved out of crystal. He realizes they have great value, especially to the Ulfen warriors from the Lands of the Linnorm Kings. He carefully harvests it, and takes care not to harm it, or show it to the goblins.

In the morning, the storm breaks, but the party is woken by the sounds of wolves baying... very close... very nearby. The goblins jump up, excited to be able to find another wolf, perhaps one more friendly than Einhardt. Unable to stop their sudden activity, the party rushes out of the shelter.

Other than those two on watch (Poochie and Roudi) no one is currently wearing any armor heavier than light.

Thinking this might be a desperate situation, and wanting to give the goblins something to get excited about, Jaender focuses his innate magic, causing a burst of fireworks to zip from his hands and explode safely in the midst of the goblins. When they all look up, he winks, and sends another burst ever so slightly above their heads. Close enough to make everyone wince, but far enough that no real harm is done. Two more zips and explosions fly from his hands before the display is finished.

"More of that, and food, if you cheer up and move on. Hup hup, lets go! Maybe we will see more wolves on the way."

Jaender winks at Vox, hoping he just saved Einhardt from more unnecessary awkward treatment from the goblins.

The goblins stop their digging when the first firework goes off. By the end of the show, they seem to have forgotten about the tragedy.

According to your maps, you are getting close to the river crossing at Harvest's End.

Just reread things... it looks like the snow should have been difficult terrain, and as I interpret the map now, that the ridge on the map was your shelter, so should have blocked line of site. No big deal, though. You'd have still slaughtered those poor, hungry defenseless wolves.

On the trail, again, the goblins start up their song/

"Marching, Marching, all day long!
We Goblins sing this travel song,
and if you try to sing along,
We change the words, you get it wrong!

Tomorrow come, Longshanks still here,
Poor Goblins dread, try not to fear!

After about 3 hours of marching, the goblins are apparently getting very weary. They are dragging, and their singing gets more morose. Finally, Reta and Rita just plop themselves down... and start sobbing...

The village of Harvest’s End is a quiet place. Traveling merchants in colorful garb are easily distinguished from the locals, who dress in woolen clothes of drab browns, greens, and grays. There are no sounds of laughter or play here. Fishermen put their catch out for display, while others congregate in small groups and whispered conversations. Smoke rises from the chimneys of uniform but well constructed buildings, most of which are surrounded by small white picket fences.

"Yikes, this place looks about as exciting as a funeral... Well, not a goblin funeral anyways..." Jaender meanders in, allowing himself to relax his exhausting vigilance for a few moments to take in the dreary sights.

"let's keep them away from the merchants as much as possible, or this could get ugly..."

"How about this one and one other stay on the outskirts of the town while the rest of you barter for supplies, get directions, or anything else that needs doing?" He looks down at the goblins doubtfully, not enjoying the prospect of chasing the little bastards through the town.

"Yes, I agree with you Strong Brute," Arturo nods at his wisdom, "Perhaps Roudantaimi would be best suited to this task - as he has a ranged weapon to help with rounding these... creatures... up if required."

To the goblins, he says, "I will go into town and see if I can procure some extra food to help fill your bellies. If you come into town after me, no food for you... and the strong one will punch you until you cannot move. If you stay here, then you will get an extra meal - or two, depending on what I find - okay?"

Diplomacy if required: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (9) + 9 = 18

Arturo walks through town. The more distance he puts between himself and the goblins, the springier his step becomes. No way I was volunteering for that task. I must remember to pay Strong Brute back somehow. When we're out of this godsforsaken country of Irrisen, though!

Arturo will look around for a place that looks as though it might sell food - or animals. The goblins will happily eat either.

Harvest’s End subsists on fishing and trade, but also sports a ferry across the wide Rimeflow River that allows merchants and lumberers to cross back and forth. The ferry is operated by an ice troll named Rimetusk, who is supposed to keep the peace and represent the will and
presence of the jadwiga Elvanna as well as serve as a lookout for Ulfen raiders coming into Irrisen territory to attack Algidheart or other major settlements along the waterway.

You are able to purchase most goods, and can spend some time learning about ice troll Rimetusk, if you wish.

Knowledge Local DC12 or Gather Information DC 12:
If anything bad happens to Rimetusk, the entire village will suffer reprisals from the jadwiga Elvanna once the regional tax collector finds out.

Knowledge Local DC17 or Gather Information DC 17:
Rimetusk is not supposed to impede legitimate commerce, but he sometimes does to exert his authority.

Knowledge Local DC22 or Gather Information DC 22:
The ice troll was corrupt before he had power but is now unscrupulous in his crookedness. He’s been known to skim off the top of what he turns over to tax collectors dispatched by the jadwiga Elvanna. He’s also known to take the occasional bribe.

Knowledge Local DC27 or Gather Information DC 27:
Rimetusk can’t stand humans who don’t know their place (which is beneath him, of course), but he sincerely respects anyone who can best him in a feat of strength, especially wrestling.

What a nice looking village. I bet they treat outsiders warmly here. I wonder what interesting wares they have for sale, yet sadly I do not possess much money. I have spent too much on this wonderful armor and this mighty weapon." Ophiuchus whacks himself with his flail, bouncing it off his new armor. "Shall we go Mr. Hairlips. I cannot wait to haggle over the price of eggs, or to buy some new potions to heal us. Do you think the rare arctic duck will make its appearance so close to a village? Do you think the villagers have seen one? Do you think that they can help me find one? Who do you think I should ask? What about the mayor? Or the constable? Perhaps there is a wise old woman who sells herbs that can tell my future. I can imagine hearing her saying, 'One day you will be like the mighty duck and soar through the sky.' That would be great. I wonder is the big man that sings is goblinsitting ok. I wonder if they are still defecating strange objects. Are we in the village yet? Should we stop and see the ice troll? I have never seen an ice troll. I wonder if it will think that we are great warriors and want to attack us. I can throw fire at it. Or I can hit it with my mighty weapon." He bangs the flail against his armor once more. "What a fun talk we are having."

"Tread lightly my friends," suggests Arturo, "I have heard of the local sherif hereabouts. An ice troll called Rimetusk. He's like most of his kin: cruel and capricious. If we keep our heads down, he shouldn't get involved or in our way. If we provoke him and it comes to a fight, this whole village could suffer the repercussions."

Arturo thinks harder about what he knows, "If we do run into trouble, the tyrant Rimetusk will likely take a bribe... perhaps he may demand one. He takes from his own sovereign, so if he partakes in graft he probably isn't above grifting either. Keep your wits about you."

Arturo strolls through the town, taking in the details trying to figure out where to go. He eventually ends up at a market, and makes a large purchase of fish. (Don't know how much it will cost, but I'd like to buy at least 2 meals' worth of fish for each of the six goblins... so, say a dozen fish?)

"Thank you my lady. A very fair price from a very fair woman," Arturo bows deeply before the homely fisherwoman, "Your skin is so fine and delicate, you must be descended from the Lady in the Room herself. I pray that my next visit to your town is a longer one that we may become better acquainted. For now, though, I am need of the ferry. Pray, can you direct me to it?"

Let's make it easier - since there is precedence in the CRB -- a goat costs 1gp, and you'll get about 30-40 pounds of meat off of it. Figure butchering to double the cost, so for 2gp you'll get 30 pounds of fresh goat meat.

"Ferry, you say? We'll you just make your way down the only road in town... you'll find the only ferry in town. Rimetusk owns it, so you'll need to negotiate with him. He'll charge you what he charges, and you'll pay it. Everyone who crosses the river her does."

Arturo quickly ferries the goat meat back to the goblins before they can get into too much trouble.

"So, shall we go and negotiate with this ice troll then?" Arturo asks his companions as they reconvene, "I'm happy to see what sort of price we can get out of him, but I think best to negotiate without showing him the goblins first. They can only hinder our chances at making it safely - and relatively cheaply - across."

Ready to chat to Rimetusk unless anyone else has something they want to do first.

"And the sooner we can be rid of these little buggers." A short distance away, the wolf with the dull, grey eyes squats and sends a message to the other dogs of the town. Before returning to the youth, the animal sniffs the nearby pee-spots and checks what messages there are to be found.

"Do you think you would be so kind to be the voice of our group in this conversation, Arturo? Talking is not one of my strong suits."

well, if we negotiate with an ice troll and it goes poorly, at least it will be fun seeing how my fire breathing works on him.. Jaender muses to himself, the odd, morbid thought crawling into his brain.

"Looks like it's a plan, then!" says Arturo cheerily as he leaves the goblins to tear into the fresh goat, "Off to the ferry to see a troll. I always figured I'd be talking to a troll about crossing a bridge. More lies I was told as a child, I guess."

Happy to be once more away from the goblins, Arturo follows the only road in town to the only ferry in town, waving at the butcher's wife as he passes her stall once more.

Arturo heads back alone(?) to talk to Rimetusk (see tactical map) The ice troll is found at the end of the road, and a large wooden ferry boat is seen tied up at the river's edge.

The troll sees Arturo looking at the ferry. He takes what looks to be a small sapling he was chewing on much like a human might chew on a grain of grass out of his mouth. "What you want?" he asks, knowing full well what Arturo wants. "Ferry closed today."
