GM Silbeg's Slayers: #3-01 The Frostfur Captives. (Inactive)

Game Master Silbeg

Tasked with escorting a group of goblin prisoners from their camp to civilization for interrogation by the Pathfinder Society, you must protect them not only from the beasts and hazards of the wilderness, but themselves.

The brute continues to help usher the goblins along, glad to leave the hut and doll well behind on their quest to deliver these little trouble-makers into the hands of another unlucky group. The journey was coming along at a fair clip, now, and soon enough the barbarian would be free of the responsibilities of caring for and looking after the self-destructive little cretins.

"Marching, Marching, all day long!
We Goblins sing this travel song,
and if you try to sing along,
We change the words, you get it wrong!

Horse we hate, they smell worse than dog,
We kill them both, and serve up like hog!
Longshanks say not to worry, will not be harmed,
Tell us we safe, they lie of course!
Longshanks,we think, stink worse than horse!

Marching, Marching, all day long!
We Goblins sing this travel song,

We change the words, you get it wrong!

Longshanks have weapons, keep us safe.
Goblins know better, we have no faith!
Longshanks say not to worry, will not be harmed,
Give us weapons and let us fight!
We vent our rage, and end our plight.

"I am so f*cking tempted to just let him freezers the snow for this!" says Arturo, loud enough that Chuffy hopefully hears before continuing more softly, "Come on, let's back track. At least his footprints should be easy enough to find in this snow."

Arturo will help look for a branch in the footprints or signs that someone is traveling backward along their path. If there are any places where the snow thins enough so that no obvious footprints would be left, he pays extra careful attention there.

I'm willing to spend about two hours looking for him before giving up. Arturo will try to ask the other goblins where he went, but he's too annoyed with them at the beginning of the search. When things calm down:

"I don't suppose any of you know where Chuffy is?" asks Arturo, "Triple meal ration for whoever helps me find him."

While the goblins get excited over the idea of triple rations, sisters point out that they don't really know where Chuffy went. "Mr Hairy-lips Boss, we no know where he go. He give Rita little grabby-grabbly, and Reta a little smoochie, but then he disappear in woods. Me thinks it was about a forever ago?" Arturo is frustrated by that response, but on pressing for details, determines it was about 20 minutes prior.

Vox and The Strong Brute are able to quickly find the trail of the missing goblin, even with Jaender's "help". It takes them about an hour to chase down the goblin, though. They see him up ahead, struggling through some underbrush... crying for some reason.

Meanwhile, back with the rest of the group, the goblins are complaining that they are "huuuunnnnnnggggrrryyyyyy!!! and you PROMISED!!!"

"Calm down little fellow," says Arturo, much more gently than his earlier tones would have predicted. Annoying though they may be, these poor creatures are being taken far from their homes to a very foreign land.

"Prosím, povedzte mi, čo záležitosť je. Viem, že sú prevzaté z krajín si podmanil a urobil si vlastný. Ja viem, stáda draví tu sú neznáme pre vás, ale prosím stlačte tlačidlo na. Arturo hopes that hearing his speech in his native tongue will prove soothing to Chuffy.

* Goblin:
"Please tell me what the matter is. I know you are being taken from the lands you conquered and made your own. I know the herds of prey here are unknown to you, but please do press on. We are the Pathfinder Society - a group dedicated to exploring Golarion, cataloging its treasures and discovering lore. "Chuffy, I promise you will not be harmed by us. We just need to get you safely out of Irrisen. But, if you don't believe me... I guess I can trust a great hero with this..." Oh, I am so going to regret this, thinks Arturo, producing a vial from his bandolier, "Liquid fire. Just promise you won't eat it. The night goes without incident, and the party makes there way overland another 4 hours. Only once is there an incident with the goblins, as Mogmurch tries to steal an alchemist's fire from Ophiuchus... at the same time that Poog tries to run away. Einhardt and Vox are able to chase the wayward goblin down, without too much hassle. It seems to you all that the goblins are starting get bored... and to a certain extent, big-headed over the equipment you have allowed them to have.

A little while later, he woods open to a clearing where a large, grass-covered mound, like a small oblong hill, dominates the area. A stout wooden door is set directly into the side of the mound, while a thin trail of smoke rises from the very top. Immediately to the south is a wooden horse stable, all of its doors closed.

Your instructions tell you that this is the longhouse of the elite Ulfen militia clan, the Blackravens, that guard the border against incursions of ice trolls and other invaders. The ranking officer here is Enrick Ironjaw, a young up-and-comer in the Blackravens. Your notes tell you that you are expected, as Freyr Darkwine, Blackraven commander and castellan of Trollheim, has sent word that you are coming.

See the full map for the layout, though we'll be using only a subsection for the tactical map. Please ignore any extraneous markings (silly Paizo)

As you approach, Enrik emerges from the longhouse’s entrance and greets the Pathfinders warmly, identifying himself and explaining that the castellan advised him of their impending arrival and intent. He offers them the hospitality of the longhouse (a hot meal and good drink) before the final leg of their journey, suggesting that the goblins be secured in the Blackravens’ emptied storage room.

"It is for their own good, you know. They are mischievous folks. The room is spacious, and there is little for them to get into trouble with there."

"Locking people up, even for there own good," begins Arturo, a frown on his face, "Goes against everything I believe in. Just make sure there is food available for them, and some of us will watch over them as they eat and make certain they stay together."

Arturo looks at the bouncing, arguing goblins as they squabble over a vial of he-daren't-ask-what and he sighs deeply, "Though perhaps we had best simply have our lunch "to go" and be off."

Not fond of supervising the goblins over lunch, but locking them up is a no-no for Arturo's faction. Let's just grab the food and get moving again (or, get to whatever encounter requires a tactical map!). ;-)

The two mook-level goblin bashers have like 6 opponents right now. May I suggest helping Arturo out with a flank against the evil cleric? You have a direct line for a charge (+2 to hit) If you close into range, Arturo can acrobatics around for a flank (and thus sneak attack) on his next turn. If the cleric lives after your assault!

"Ophiuchus! Come help!" cries Arturo, feeling somewhat outmatched after the unholy blow to his head, "I'm sure Strong Brute, Roudantaimi, Jaender and the goblins have those two fellows well in hand."

"Nooo!", Roudantaimi shouts, seeing his friend falling down. While Arturo is a bit reckless, and his frail human body doesn't look like it can take much beating, it is their team's task to keep him out of harm.

At the same time the other humans effortlessly cut down the goblins, the ones they should be protecting. "Goblins, get back! Get back! Let us do the fighting!" he shouts, slightly indecisive whom to aid. But in the end, it's the distance that matters. The goblin-cutters are much closer, so the gnome can fight them better. He takes an alchemical cartridge from his bandolieer, and stuffs it into the pistol's barrel - no need to play with gunpowder and bullets separately.
